Does anyone know why it always takes several attempts before my Windows 7 PC will see my phone? I connect it and my phone says connected as a media device but nothing happens after I wait for a minute. No portable device appears in Computer and ADB says device not found. I always keep having to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable several times before my PC will see it and drives me insane. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hey there,
I'm having issues trying to sync my phone with my computer. When I connect my phone, nothing happens, Zune doesn't launch, and when I open it, it doesn't show my device as connected. I've tried everything I can think of, different USB ports, rebooting both the phone and my pc. I'm running windows 7 64 bit, and it was working before. Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks for the help!
I had a similar problem. Here is what I did to solve it. Close Zune. Disconnect Phone. Then connect again. go to device manager, and look under portable devices (if you do not see it, try to display hidden devices, perhaps), then uninstall the driver for the phone. Disconnect the phone again. Run Zune. Remove all profiles for any other phone or device that is on Zune. Then connect your phone, and Windows should recognize it, as well as Zune. Good luck.
just tried that, still no luck. When my pc reinstalled the driver, it displayed the phone as "Microsoft USB Sync" which I thought was kind of weird
For some reason when I connect my S4 to my computer via usb, it doesn't even register that it's connected to the computer. Neither the computer opens up the explorer window and the phone doesn't say that it is "connected as a media device." I'm hoping this is a software issue but is it a hardware issue? If so, how should I go about it since my phone is less than 6 months old?

Have you installed the proper drivers on your PC (you didn't say)? If not, I suggest you search for threads that tell you how to install them and why you need them installed. Also, maybe try a different cord or USB port...or even a different PC. Good luck.
hey guys.
i just tried copying an avi file from my pc to the phone. i had already selected Media device (USB 3.0) in the pull down menu.
first it disconnected as it had initially first connected via Media device (MTP) and then reconnected and brought the auto play dialogue up. after a few seconds it disconnected itslef again and then reconnected. it seems to randomly want to disconnect and reconnect when it wants to.
even while it was apparently still reconnected, i tried to copy a file over to it and it first said i might not be able to play the file did i want to copy it anyway, i clicked yes, then it says the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected even though it still appears to be connected.
if i switch back to MTP it still warns about maybe not playing the file but then after clicking to still copy across, it copies fine.
i am running windows 7. i have used this usb 3.0 port fine with a usb thumb stick i have. also, windows says it has installed the device successfully when i click over to usb 3.0.
so.... any ideas why it randomly wants to dis/re connect? and why will it not copy across even when it appears connected?
thanks guys.

Make sure you have the latest Samsung USB drivers on your PC. If you think you do, I would go to the device manager and uninstall your phone from the device list and then let it reinstall the drivers. Downloading Kies 3 also installs the drivers on your PC.

thanks mate but i have already tried them.
it does charge fine so i'm not sure whether it is a power issue but the issue of it disconnecting must have something to do with not transferring anything over even though it still appears connected when i am trying.
i read somewhere that due to it's quicker data transfer, the pc and device need to send much quicker signals to each other to let them know that they're still attached. by using an extension lead inbetween the device and usb 3.0 socket i was delaying that signal sufficiently to make the pc keep thinking the phone wasn't attached anymore. i removed the extension lead and sure enough it copied across fine.
the odd thing is that both a usb thumb drive and my 2tb backup external HDD work fine over the extension. maybe the note 3 is slower at sending that signal to start with? dont know but it now works.
Just recently i tried to transfer for the first time, some wallpapers to my phone, and when i plug in the usb, the phone starts to charge normally but i cannot figure out why i cant transfer files from pc to phone or vice versa.
When i plug it in, it gives me the option to select what to "Use USB for", but when i select either MTP (file transfers) or PTP (transfer photos or files), nothing happens. I cannot browse the phone to pick anything at all.
When i go to device manager on PC i see under Portable devices the name of my phone (Moto G4 Play) but it has an exclamation point next to it. I have tried to uninstall and re-install or even update the driver but it will remain this way (if i click its propierties it tells me "This Device cannot start. Code 10"
Is there anything else i can do either on my phone or pc to make this work?
Other info:
Already downloaded motorola device manager to see if it would help but nope.
My PC OS is windows xp (yeah, i know... :laugh

That probably explains everything
I don't think there are compatible drivers for Windows XP..
Long term support for WinXP ended three whole years ago. Though what I noticed with CM and Lineage is that the first time the phone is set up, it won't enable MTP even if checked. You have to reboot the phone and then MTP will actually enable properly.
Also, it may happen with 3rd party cables too. I myself faced this issue with Boat Indestructible cable, then I used the original cable that came with phone and successfully done it. But I still can't understand, how that cable can transfer data to/from other phones....
Just another bit of info:
Today while trying to make it work, i updated the driver from the Device Manager again and somehow i could access the phone as intended.
The problem is that after a few seconds, the window closes on its own! Then i have to redo the whole process and It gives me access again but every time, after a few seconds, the browsing window closes on its own!
I have tried with other cables and no dice, tried also rebooting phone and pc and also tried plugging it to all available usb ports. Any other tip or method i can try?
Try another pc to discard things (so you know if it's the pc or the phone)
Hello, recently my device stopped being detected on PC. When I connect USB cable, it only starts charging, without debug mode and MTP. I tried 6 different cables, and both Windows 10 and Arch Linux. Also, it takes more time for the device to detect that cable is connected than before. Anybody had a problem like this before? Are there any solutions available?

Hi! I had the exact same problem last week. I tried everything I could think of but to no avail. I took the phone back to the store and the in-store geek could not solve the problem either. Eventually, they gave me a replacement handset there and then.
What is your Windows version ? I already have this issue using a "Naked" version of Windows (without Media Player pack).

Try turning on debugging and selecting file transfer in notifications when you plugged it in also there is a auto mode when you plug it into a computer you may have changed it to another option that stops you from doing file transfers try look and see if you accidentally did that it should look like this.
