[Q]Nexus 4 Game Lag - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys !
I have a problem, and want to share with you, maybe you have this as well .
When playing a game, let's say temple Run, if i don't touch the screen the game lags like hell. But if I touch it, it gets smooth as it should. Does anyone experience this on stock kernel ?(only rooted) And if so, is there a solution to this?
Thanks ! :highfive:

[Q] Asphalt 5 and Asphalt 6 on the x10i

Hi,
I loved to play Asphalt 5 on my x10i when on Froyo, but since I updated to gingerbread. It seems to have lost its sound. The sound effects just decide to stop playing mid game, and the music also does not play.
does anyone have a fix for this?
Also why cant Asphalt 6 not run on the x10? Is it only me? When I install it it shows up with messed up colours and the frame rate is so slow that I have to force close it.
/end rant.
So my question is does anyone else have the no music problem on asphalt 5 and does anyone have a fix for it?
and am I the only one experiencing asphalt 6 problems with my x10
thanks.
you should install custm roms...try techdevil's gaming rom...
abd you may want to know I've heard even asphalt7 runs on x10.
yes I also wanted that but that ROM looks to be abandoned.
The developer has lost interest in it and is no longer answering questions and not giving solutions to problems faced. It also appears to be buggy and this looks to be the final version of the ROM.
I was just hoping some one here would have found a fix for the asphalt5/asphalt6 problem..

Games freezing

My games play just fine for ~10 minutes, and then start freezing. They start working again after a a small amount of time, but continue freezing. It makes me think it might have something to do with overheating, but the phone itself is barely warm. Does anyone else have this issue?
It's not that big of a deal, because I don't play games frequently, I'm just thinking that when I travel, I don't want to be having this issue with only being able to play games intermittently.
I first noticed it on SlimRom, thought it might have had something to do with the smaller pixel density that rom has, so I changed the lcd density to default, and the issue continued. I installed AOKP last night, and the issue is happening with that one as well.
I didn't have the stock rom on long enough to test it, but it would be nice to know that this is a phone issue and not a rom issue.
Right now I'm trying out the rest of the roms to see if any work for games for more than 10-15 minutes, but I would really appreciate some input from anyone.
EDIT
Issue occurs with Carbon and PAC roms as well.

not sure, but it could be a memory (RAM) issue. does the freezing happen with other apps, or just certain games?
I have not seen it happen in anything except games, but it only happens when I have the game open for 10+ minutes. I don't think I have ever had a single app open that long, but it doesn't seem to be a RAM issue to me. Once the freezing starts happening, it freezes a couple times a minute, and other apps work just fine, even with the game still running in the background. If I set it down, it won't freeze again for another few minutes, which is why it seems like GPU overheating to me. Once it gets hot, it freezes really frequently, then when given the chance to cool down it doesn't freeze again unless its been running a game for longer.
I just got it to freeze, hit the task killer button(said 380MB free) and went back into the game, and it froze again within 30 seconds.
I downloaded a CPU temp app, and the CPU is ~35C, and doesn't get much higher when the game starts freezing. Are there any apps that show GPU temp? I can't seem to find anything.

get a logcat and send it to the Dev of whatever ROM you're on.
I did, I ended up sending it to the SlimRoms crew, because Slim has been my go-to rom.
In other news, I used the Utility on the Dev page to flash back to stock 4.1.2, and have been playing a game for around 20 minutes with no issues, it seems like stock works fine. Good to know I dont have a malfunctioning device.
I'm gunna try some of the 4.1.2 roms and if they don't have the issue, I may just stick with one of those.
Thanks for your help.
I had the same problem! I'm running Carbon and I had the same problems with games. I recently flashed the latest version of carbon and it seems to not have the issue any more though

Interesting.. That would definitely be worth a try.
Right now I'm back to a 4.1.2 rom and games are running flawlessly. I miss all the nice features of 4.2 though, and having Pie and Halo would be amazing.
Thanks for the tip, which Carbon build are you on? I'm looking at the list and I see one built on 7/10 so I'll give that a go.

Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Gameboid, Zenonia, basically 2D games. It has happened with every game I play for more than 10ish minutes, but I haven't tried anything like dead trigger. I'll give it a go with Carbon and see what happens.

I tried it without Force GPU and the same thing happened.
I played Dead Trigger for a while without any problems. Seems like its only 2D games, but those are mostly the only ones I play.

[Q] Real Racing 3 crashes!

Hey there.
I've recently installed the stock ROM again because I was getting a bit tired of the custom ROMs, and then I downloaded Real Racing 3 on my phone but it tends to crash randomly sometimes. Maybe it runs out of memory to handle the actual application? I honestly have no idea, but I was kind of hoping you guys might do. Is there anything I can do to prevent the game from crashing again? It also sometimes crashes during a race.

That's jb ROM and in jb the main a problem is that free ram is very less,,so u think that app is forced to exit because of insufficient ram

[Q] My G2 is somewhat Lagging.

Well i just bought the LG G2 recently after i heard it was better than my HTC One... i had.
im somewhat disapointed because its lagging sometimes.. mostly at lockscreen and when i swipe pages.. and stuff.. im hoping its because im not using a costume Rom and an early OS ... and not the 4.4.2 because its not out yet for my D802 .... anybody els is having these things?
Hmmm?

I think there's a problem !!
I've been using LG G2 D802 international for a month and it is very fast device, no complains except one day I installed flappy birds and It didnt run well, it skipped many frames, but subway surf runs very smooth and also device in normal use is fast as hell .So I did a little test here is my experience: Those games lagged: Flappy bird, jetpack joyride, fruit ninja. Games who ran very good: Need For Speed most wanted, Modern combat 4, subway surf, GTA vice city. How is possible those heavy games runs smoothly but those small games like fruit ninja and flappy bird, lags , I think those games do not support snapdragon 800, I want to ask you about your experience , thank you.
Well comparing to my old Htc one i feel like the g2 in his general use a bit laggier
For example camera, unlocking and browsing betweeb pages
That MAY be becayse in running 4.2.2 but im not sure

My G2 D801 with KK lags on low requirement games

Hey I'm back once again with another issue I am really surprised to be seeing LAG or FPS skip on games like temple run 2 or subway surfers when I get no lag on any of my GTA games (I own all 3) the only time GTA starts to lose fps is if I play for an hour PR so logically but like I said I get fps lag on those games that don't require a good CPU and yet even with a beastly phone they lag .. So can anyone help me fix this or know how because its pretty frustrating how one can't play a game like subway surfer without losing his mind ... ADDITITIONAL INFO: the UI of the phone is really fast and I have no problems web browsing or going on apps like fb.
Do you have a custom kernel? If so try switching your governor to interactive or intelliactive... Also personally I find the fiops scheduler is the best ...

Well umm I don't root and there should be a way to solve this without root because I'm sick of this phone.. I should have bought a 5s.. I think it just go back to my Nexus 4 since I never had any problems with it.. I would root if there was a CWM for d801 and made by someone who can put up a good guide but I bricked my G2 on twrp months ago and ain't doing it again

I did try that couple days ago but it did not get rid of lag on low requirement games .. I ended up just turning it off again because my CPU got really hot fast while doing basic things like web browsing or listening to music etc so now that its off don't overheat really fast which is strange because its supposed to monitor the CPU .. Thanks for attempting to help though
I'm considering going back to Jelly Bean from what I remember the phone UI was slower than but my battery life was really good I got 6-7 hours now I get max: 4 and a half hours if I'm lucky .. And also I I'm pretty sure I did not have any sort of gaming issues on low requirement games.. Is this a good idea.. I'll do it in the weekend because my friend knows how to go back to stock .. I'm not really good with these sort of things Lol

My guess is that you have some kind of app that is sucking your cpu.
Check for rogue apps and uninstall any application that may cause slowness
