[Q] Play Store 4.5.10 Bug - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I recently bought a S4 and overall I'm really happy with it. The thing is that I have this strange bug in the play store since I first opened it. If I go to any section e.g. the games section and swipe down the list some app icons aren't loading. The place were the picture is supposed to be just stays blank. Actually it's even happening in the frontpage when i swipe down. I checked my wifi but it's also happening with mobile connection.
I also cleared the cache and data but nothing worked until I deinstalled the store updates. That downgraded the play store to version 4.3.11 and surprisingly the bug was gone So is this a common thing in the 4.5.10 version or does my S4 suffer from a strange bug?

Do you have an ad blocker running or a modified hosts file? These can cause this issue with play store
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app

No ad blocker is running and I didn't modify anything but like I said, strangely enough the bug is gone with the 4.3.11 version. As soon the play store updates itself to the 4.5.10 version, it's there again. Could this be a hardware bug?

Can no one help? Seems like I'm the only one with this problem. Should I return my S4?

I am having the same problems with my S4 Mini. Sometimes this happens. But it seems clearing cache helps. But most of the times the same old thing happens. Maybe if some one helps you here, I would take those steps on my Mini! Cheers.

I described this problem in another forum and apparently this is not only happening with the S4. Someone with a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 has also this bug or like you with the S4 mini. So I think this has something to do with samsungs stock rom. No one could give me a solution tho so I think we have to wait for the next store update and hope that it will fix it :fingers-crossed:

Have you tried clearing app data, removing Google acco9unt, rebooting and re-entering details to see if it clears the problem?

Yeah I also think it's the play store but it can't be the store only because otherwise everybody would have this bug. Let's just hope it will get fixed soon

I'm glad I stumbled onto this post! I'm using a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 and I'm having the exact same problem since the Play Store updated itself to version 4.5.10. I cleared the apps cache and data and the problem always returns. Have you guys found any solution yet? If so please let others know! I tested things on my Nexus 7 tablet and my tablet does not have this problem so it's definitely a minor bug with the latest update running on certain Samsung ROMs. I posted here asking others about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628266

Having the same issue on a Moto X. The problem only occurs over cellular connection (Verizon LTE); wifi is fine.

[I9500] Camera app causes random device reboot

I am having this problem where opening camera app will sometimes cause the phone to reboot. Does anyone else having this problem? I just want to confirm either this is firmware issue or hardware issue.
I'm running build I9500XXUAMDL. Stock, not rooted. System updated recently. Had the same problem before the last update too (can't remember previous build number).
Update:
1) The problem is still there with ME1 update.
2) It happens with 3rd party camera as well (I tried CameraZoom FX) so I believe the problem is on lower level than app.
No camera issue here. Using XXUAMDL firmware.
Yes same problem.. On DXUAMDK.. Happens with my friend's s4 as well
The camera uses the external sd card if one is installed. Try setting it to use internal only.
My S4 has issues with accessing the external sdcard (seems a common problem where the solution is reformat the external sd card.)

lol what do you expect? no device will be bug free ever!!! Every device have their own set of issues... whether the issue is reproducible by others is the question. We all know samsung ****ed up the release of s4 and rushed it in advance due to competition and hence we still have some bugs here and there.
Wait for few weeks until the bugs are fixed, im sure in a month or so the s4 will be more than perfect.

I know it's been rushed to compete with the z and one. But looking at s4 bugs, I think the most buggy of the 3. Heat +brightness throttle +battery (unplugged mine from 100 went down to 99 after 5m' screen on time and I had no Wakelocks) + this + smearing, that's a lot.

nexus 7 2012 - 4.4 OTA kitkat little artifacts

Hello ,i installed the OTA 4.4 update on my stock unrooted nexus 2012 wifi and i see some little artifacts if i rotate the screen multiple times , i flashed the google factory image 4.4 for a fresh start but the same happens, it's a bug from google i guess, i'm thinking reverting to 4.3 , anyone experience these artifacts with the official update?
Hello, I also updated my nexus 7 from android 4.3
Stock ROM to Android 4.4 stock ROM, rooted.
So far it is working fine and no WiFi disconnecting
Issue. At first, KitKat ROM seem to run slower compare to android 4.3. Did a wipe of cache/dalvich
and factory reset in TWRP, KitKat ROM is running
Smooth and snappier. Enjoying KitKat stock ROM.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
thanks for reply, i guess kit kat is a good under the hood update and i want the latest ver on tablet but did you get any little tiny artifacts on the side of the screen (which disappears after rotation) if you rotate the display multiple times (portrait-landscape four - five times)?
ok i flashed 4.3 and the artifacts disappeared so kit kat is buggy on 2012 model or an update from google store (on google apps) after the flash of 4.4 brakes something

what do you mean artifacts? Ive noticed from time to time whats looks like little dead pixels but really only when rotating or on the lockscreen.
Was wondering what happened here.
yes i mean these dead pixels, i wanted to know that it wasn't only on my device , it's minor but it didn't happen with 4.3

I'm having the same problem after 4.4, my friend. I get little artifacts while changing screen orientation in the app drawer. The background is black, so it's really noticable. And yeah, 4.3 was fine. Did you report the problems to Google? I tried to, but to be honest, I don't know where to send the email.
yeah this is something that has annoyed the heck out of me since 4.4
It started happening right away.
Perhaps we can get more people to get in on this and get a fix from google.
And I am not rooted in any way so its a stock issue.
heres a google discussion i started for it.

If Google doesn't fix this, let's hope that the CyanogenMod Developers will. I didn't plan on rooting my tablet, but they are forcing me to.

I am getting the exact same effect when rotating the display. I began noticing it since the 4.4 OTA update. I hoped that 4.4.2 will solve this but it did not. It's not bugging me as much as it did the first few times but it gives me the impression of unfinished job.

Could some of you contact Google because they just told me Im SOL and I have to deal with the factory warranty now which is expired.

Hello Tyler,
Thank you for contacting Google.
I understand that your device has began these issues after your update to 4.4 KitKat. However, if the factory data reset does not resolve the issue, we have to refer you to the retailer from which you purchased your device to inquire about warranty options. We provide warranty replacement devices for purchases made through Google Play when the factory data reset does not fix the current issue. You are also welcome to contact the manufacturer which is Asus. Their toll free number is 1-888-678-3688.
The only other option I can recommend, is to wait for the next update to the software to come out that fixes these bugs.
If you have any other questions about your next step, please reply directly to this email or call our toll free number 1-855-83-NEXUS. One of our agents will be happy to assist you.
Again, thank you for contacting Google today. Have a fantastic weekend.
Well its well over a year and my warranty is well over. Im about to dump 4.3 back on just to PROVE to them its their software causing the bug.
My guess is most people are on CM or another ROM which doesnt get affected by this bug but those of us still using OTA rooted android should probably all be dealing with it to some degree.
Not very pleasant indeed. Well, I'll be waiting for some newer updates (just because it doesn't bother me that much now, I got used to it). I'm not that anxious to make a factory data reset. If nothing happens I will be transition to Cgen of which I've heard and read many good things especially the new installer.

Jolla Phone and Google Play Store

I followed instructions on how to install Google Play Store on Sailfish OS (http://jollafin.blogspot.co.at/2013/11/play-store-for-jolla.html). It works great with most of apps but one problem that I'm experiencing is that I can't redownload my purchases. I can view them but they show up in the store as never purchased and when I try to buy and install them I get an error message.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

While the OS is still in beta, and fist update came yesterday, i'm very happy Jolla user. My old nexus 7 is getting dust, while Jolla has come my primary device. There is still some problems that annoys very much, like i personally cant get exchange sync to sync my contacts, while everything else works.
UI is intuitive with very good response. Camera is not so good, but this probably will improve with software, as were the case with N9. Android software "works" mostly good, but when you install enough android software, some applications comes very unstable, or wont start at all (like angry birds..)
As former N9 user, i dont anymore feel the need to go back. This is far better than N9, but navigation is not near "Nokia experience", actually its crappy at the moment.
^There is a software update released yesterday with some bug fixes. Have you updated yet?

Samsung being sneaky?

Yup, got this one as well. Definitely going to try my best not to fall for this one too. I'm assuming this is all related to KNOX which I never have wanted, do not want currently, and never will want in the future.
It honestly looks like they are trying to possibly patch something. Maybe a possible root exploit? Lol
Agreed, I seen similar posts mentioned in the Q & A section here and about people with Dev phones going ahead and taking the updates.
Personally, I will not accept any update regarding security, ect... period due to the comments listed. I don't trust Samsung or Verizon as they are obviously determined to block any attempt at achieving "root" on this device if that even becomes a reality.

At least they sort of explained what it was finally. It does look like a way to update blocks to root exploits.

Yeah, I got it to. I took it will no ill effect. The security updates that come through the Play Store will not effect an unlocked bootloader in the case of the Developer Edition Note 4s and will not cause a rooted phone to loose root. The Play Store update is only an update to the security app that comes stock on all Note 4s.

I don't have that one in the play store, though it comes up at least once a day through the phone.
So.. Anyone can confirm what this update do?
Questioned Samsung on Twitter and FB
When I questioned Samsung on this, I received two responses. The first that it was a third party app they don't support. The second was that they were looking into it. It has since disappeared from my list of updates.
I believe this is the service that gets updated. I have not been able to find it in the okay store either. Saw it once when it auto updated on me, not since.
I'm pretty sure it's the app itself that's getting the update. What would be considered sneaky is if they update the app and changed the policy so they can force a security update without you agreeing to it.

Washed out colors.

Wondering what everyone is doing about this bug since the latest 6.0 update? Wait for a fix or are you reverting back to an earlier OS? I know google is aware of the problem but who knows when they will get at this.

Only recently, Google acknowledged the bug and the fix is on the way (just don't know when, probably early 2016). https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=188667
Too bad there is no way to stop the auto-update to 6.0/6.0.1 unless you are rooted and mod some settings. I don't have any desire to root my NP players. So, the only thing I can do so far is wait.

Given the spread of the problem (affects NP, Nexus 5X and 6P), it tells me that those work at Google didn't do their job. Hence I lost my trust on them about the future on the Android TV if they can't get the basics right.

This update/fix takes forever to be released and it's been a known problem for several months now.
The fix is finally in. Just flashed the newest factory image and tested it out on Youtube and Google Play Movies. Better late than never I guess.

I see two 6.01 updates is it one of those? I'm already at 6.01 but don't see an update when I checked the update on my NP.

It's build MMB29T. It will show a January 1, 2016 security patch level date once installed. I couldn't bother waiting for the OTA update myself so I just flashed the stock factory image instead.

I had read it was just a security patch.

Google mentioned that they had fixed it on their end and would include it in the next patch and I can confirm they indeed included a fix thank goodness.
I was almost half expecting that they would fix this but then break something else...so far so good though. Tried videos via Youtube, Google Play Movies, and Kodi. Blacks are black again. I was about ready to give up on the NP and look for alternatives.

I never had a problem with videos played through Kodi before, Netflix on the other hand is terrible.

Cast always worked for me (my casting though was mainly limited to YouTube, Chrome browser and UFC). Is there an app specially you are referring to?
