Note 3Hot to touch in 44 degrees celcius heat - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I live in Perth Western Australia and we had a 44 degree day yesterday... about 111 degrees farenheit. I wa sitting outside in the shade reading the news on my Note 3 and noticed the top third of the screen was very hot to touch.
Has anyone else used their Note in warm weather and noticed the screen is almost too hot to touch?

Only time mine has gotten that hot is flashing CM and downloading apps in one fell swoop.. I have noticed tho mine runs at about 35 degree celcius average anyway and I have seen it go up as far as 61 or so and yes the screen gets very hot near the top.

75-80 is warm, 111 is bloody hot !!!
If the top third was not in the sun, I would bring it back as it must be defective. "almost too hot to touch" is not normal.
(you didn't have an over/under split screen running did you?)

FYI, the Hero is a low temp beast!!!

Ok, so yesterday I had the pleasure of going to Cleveland for a football game. Being as I was leaving one wonderful wife and four children at home, I wanted to keep my phone close by. It was about 13 degrees at game time, with the windchill at about 0.
yes, I have insurance on the phone.
I kept it in my jacket pocket, checking my txt and other email and such and it worked flawlessly. Big ups to HTC for making a sturdy device that can handle the elements well.
also, the Sprint Navigation on the HTC gets major props also.
Browns won, they also deserve a head nod
heck yeah
Yeah, I had it out with me on a four hour walk in my jacket this weekend.
It was 3 degrees with a -16 degree windchill (cold)
Checked hero several times during the walk and it was fine.
Battery temperature got down to around 26 degrees from what I remember. (thanks to the curvefish battery widget I was able to see this quickly)
I was surprised the screen still looked really good, and took touch and swipes with no problem. (My old blackberry - 8830 - would become almost unreadable in the cold, and the screen refreshes were very slow)

awesome, i'll have to check that widget out... even though it's 75 degrees here right now lol

i live in medina and i was supprized they won i think the cold was on their side
I had mine out this morning when it was 4F. I needed to grab a quick pic of something. It kept coming back with blurry photos (in full sunlight). Otherwise, everything worked fine (well, except my fingers- touch screens don't work well with gloves on, or at all really, and it was insanely freakin cold).
the only time my screen has gone slow is at work. i spend time in a 40 below freezer with a -60* wind chill. after about 10 minutes in there, with my phone in my sweatshirt pocket, it will slow down pretty bad. doesn't take long for it to speed right back up though. it does way better than my 8330 blackberry in the cold.
i would test it's true extremes if i didn't care about having to replace it when i freeze it solid.

that might have more to do with the lense cover fogging over from the change from nice warm and humid pant pocket or coat pocket to oh my god its cold air. if you let it adjust to the temp the lense should clear right up. or frost over.

really hot phone

No .really, it gets so hot, it feels like a skillet
Anyone else experiencing this?
ive never had it get skillet hot although i think you are exaggerating lol if your not then get it replaced...
Okay so maybe not skillet hot lol, but its def hotter than normal overheating.
yepp my one gets pretty hot quick after using it about an hour.battery life widget temperature reads about 105-106.5F after that i have to kill all apps to cool down and i also notice it by the kick stand metal.thanks again "HTC"
Mine got pushed to the limit today...
I wanted to drain my battery as quickly as possible so I could condition it...
Turned the screen on max brightness, no turn off, turned on bluetooth on standby, wifi on standby (these two alone used 14% of the battery), started a linux ISO download over 3G, turned on 4G (there's no 4G in my area), turned on GPS... Took about 2 1/2 hours to kill the phone to the point that it shut down... but it was quite warm. I was afraid I was burning the circuitry at one point. It was so hot the heat transferred all the way through my Innocase.
Other than the extreme usage I put it through today, it has never gotten even more than slightly warm for me even when pounding on it for hours straight.
it only gets hot if i'm using the stock sense rom. once i flashed to froyo 2.2 all's good and doing the same stuff.
Oh and just noticed some light leakage under my home and search keys is that normal?

That's the screen separation issue... Swap it out if you can find a store that has one.

I don't think it's that particular issue - the screen actually separating from the bezel. My own screen seems solid as a rock, yet there's a *very slight* light leakage noticeable in total darkness. 003 hardware received from sprint.com on 6/11.
I hit 113˚F for about half an hour yesterday. Usually it's not that hot while charging.
If I could get the refrigerator light to stay on, I could power the charger in the ice box.
So we need a thermo-ionic cooler built into a cradle.

I have ZERO leakage on my 002 model.
Just got back from Sprint, they held the phone and said it did feel excessively warm, and they could see the light leakage, but I have to go back tomorrow because it was too late. They better give me a new one, or I'm gonna be pissed.
I think I found the problem. It was searching for network the whole time,so I went into settings and saw that it said ''unable to connect" under mobile networks. Just unchecked it then checked it and it Connected. No more overheating as of yet.

Samsung Vibrant overheating issues?

Anyone else having an issue who might live in Texas? I notice severe delay in the OS. Also had a small 1 foot drop out of my hand while I was sitting down and it went CooCoo, had to reset, and reinsert SD card. Ambient Temp today was 97 55% humidity. I noticed my phone was actually hot in the heat, which worried me.
Humidity ? What was it temp wise? I have mine up yo 115 while charging ... it's a different processor it heats a little.. I returned one due to it but the new one is just as hot. Don't feel hott just says it is. No biggie. To me...

Been over a hundred here and 60-80% humidity, phone feels fine.
My phone has gotten got to the touch when pushed really hard and charging. I think its the battery... But this has been reported on other forums as happening often. If Tmobile says its the battery they swap it out for free. And if you aren't rooted they will swap the phone.

Its cool...
My phone gets really hot when charging
but also gets hot when doing a lot on it. Hot enough that you can cook an egg on it and I was uncomfortable putting it to my ear for a phone call.
My heat feels like its coming for the processor and not the battery.
I live in Florida and its always hot as hell an humid the phone hasn't had any weird issues. It does get hot while charging an during use at times.

I live in Texas and the temperature outside has been mostly in the 90's and low 100's during the day and in the 80's at night. I haven't noticed my phone getting unusually hot though. I does get a little warm while charging or during heavy use but no more so than my G1 did. In fact, it usually seems relatively cooler than my old G1 felt.

In tampa... handset does get warm to the touch, when pushing it through paces (GPS, 3g, heavy data use...), but not alarmingly so.
My phone hit 134.6 degrees this morning and its a brand new vibrant out the box just installed battery indicator to monitor.
I've had mine get really hot as well, up around where i'm guessing the processor is, not the battery. When this happens, my battery really drains. I've looked to see what tasks are running and could see nothing. Powering off and on didn't fix it. Taking out the battery did. It's happened just a couple times in the last couple of months.

S-pen starts acting up in the cold

So I was waiting outside for 25 minutes in 5F degree weather. (I thinks its almost -18 Celsius). Anyways. I thought it was a great idea to use my spen since I was wearing thick ski gloves. Everything was great. But about 20 minutes into it. The S-pen would "tap" any thing from about 5 inches away. Just hovering would tap. Managed to finish my message. Warmed the phone up in my pocket for 2 minutes. And it was back to normal
Tl;DR? Phone got to 5f degrees for 20 minutes. S-pen hover would tap letters. And other buttons. Warming it up fixes it.

Even though the distance sounds a bit far, it sounds like the point just had frozen in the pressed position. Haven't noticed any issues in similar temperatures at least.
"Clicking" or "taps" on the spen are mechanical, so the tip of the spen could be affected by the extreme cold. One suggestion for similar problems is to tap the tip of the pen on a hard surface to release the tip of the pen if it's acting crazy.
Hope that helps.

LG G6 Turns off from Cold?

Hello everyone,
Soon after I got my LG G6 at launch, I ran Geekbench in my refrigerator to try to gauge how much thermal throttling was occurring. To my surprise, the phone shutoff. I didn't think much of it at the time. However, now that it's been extremely cold up north, my LG G6 has been shutting off with large percentages of battery (greater than 40%) after being exposed to 20 degree Fahrenheit weather for 5 minutes. The phone won't turn back on until it warms up. LG's own testing states, "Device withstands temperatures ranging from -25˚C to -33˚C for three hours while out of the box." -33 degrees Celsius is -27 degrees Fahrenheit, much colder than what I have exposed it to with issue.
First off, is this a normal issue? Secondly, it's still under warranty, do you think it would be advantageous to send my cosmetically mint LG G6 in for repair?
Thank you.

This shouldn't be normal. What would happen if there are freezing temperatures and you need to take your phone and send a text message?
I had a similar issue with an older phone and last winter I couldn't even use it when it was below 0. So I replaced it.
Today I went to take a ride with my bike, and I mounted my G6 on the handle. It was about +3°C, and after 10 minutes I took the phone off to take a picture. As soon as I opened the camera app, it said something about the battery and immediately shut off. It still had about 40% in it, so that was not a problem. I could not turn the phone back on, so I put it in my pocket, and yes after 2 minutes it turned on fortunately. Is it really a normal thing? Not even below freezing point. What if it's freezing cold outside for real, and there's an accident so I have to make an emergency call, but "nooo the battery is cold, I shall just turn off now bye". I have never experienced anything like this before with my previous phones.
I just had the same problem like 2 days ago. -1 degrees Celsius outside, my phone was around 30-40% and let laying on my car for around 30 minutes but after I picked it up, the battery showed 6% and the phone immediately turned off. This is interesting, I think I will test that when I have some free time soon.
My G6 turned off while it was -17C outside, about ~~50% battery and happend also few days later :/

The refrigerator scenario sounds like it should work. Could Android be crashing? Maybe try another app. Those are some extreme temperatures that you are referencing. Where did you get that information? The owners manual for my LG G6 (unlocked) states on page 3 "Use and store your phone between 0C/32F and 40C/104F". Page 27 states the same temperature range under the battery care section and states not to charge outside that range.
Did someone found a solution? My LG turns off at car air condition, or in hand when outside is 5 *C.
The LG G6 definitely shuts down in cold weather. The G2 never did that. No other phone I've ever had ever did this. I lived in New York for 35 years and now back in Cleveland.
the phone was brand new. Standing outside at a bus stop needing to use the phone to call Uber... It would not work.
If your phone shutoffs at 0 or -3 degree Celsius, that means you have bad battery. It cant produce current. First you phone should warn about low temperature then shutoff if it doesnt get warm.. I own G6 for 2,5 year and it doesnt shutoff at cold temperatures
Had the same problem yesterday. It was in my pocket with 25% as i was taking a walk. The temp was -1 Celsius so not that cold ( + body heat + it was in my jackets pocket). Turned off without the empty battery animation, as soon as I took it to check a message i had received.
