Problem to connect my G2 to Windows 8.1 pc - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I never success to connect my G2 to my laptop which is running Windows 8.1 from the very beginning when I purchased my phone. I've tried all connection types (media device, camera, pc suite...), all got "device can't be recognized".
Anyone has experienced this? Please help!!!

Install LG universal drivers. Phones seem to hate Win7+. I use XP vm for phone needs.

The LG Universal drivers didn't work for Windows 8.1 when I tried a few weeks ago. Find a Windows 7 or 8.0 machine - 7 works fine for me, and someone else used 8.0 without issue.

[Q] Connecting Xoom to PC

Is anybody else have trouble connecting their Xoom to their PC? When I initially tried I get the following:
Motorola USB Composite Device Ready to Use
MTP Installing driver software (taking forever)
MZ600 Installing driver software (taking forever)
Last time it actually installed the Composite Device and MZ600, but not the MTP.
Then I turned on debugging, and it actually installed and showed a Motorola USB device under windows 7 devices, but as soon as I double clicked on it windows 7 froze up.
I'm running a fresh install of windows 7 with all updates. I've even recently completed the SP1 update. I've also never had any trouble with my Droid X. This is completely frustrating.
I run windows 7 64bit ultimate with sp1 and I plugged in and all is good with the world. Asked be to open up the 32gig folder and I put my books and music in the card. Works like a charm.

I had no problem with my windows 7 I5 processor recognizing my Xoom

worked ok for me with windows 7 64bit.
You might try toggling the USB debugging on the xoom on and off. I seem to recall doing that at some point last night.

[Q] Windows notification doesn't appear when nexus 7 connected

When I connect my nexus 7 to my computer with win7,
the MTP device appears and I can transfer files without problem.
However, when I finish file transfer, I found that there is no 'remove device safely' notification in the right hand corner
So, I have no way to remove the usb and I am afraid of data corruption
My nexus 7 is just rooted with stock rom and kernel.
Any solution to that?
Well mine shows up as "Portable device" in Windows Explorer, but I see no "Safely remove" either in the list, in Windows 7.
However, I had no trouble just disconnecting the USB cable. Though I always close any open Windows Explorer windows that show the Nexus 7or its files first, before doing that.
My device is not rooted yet but I doubt that should make a difference.
Did you guys install this driver?

Yes I have installed it in order to root my nexus.
I have also tried connecting my nexus to notebook which doesn't have any nexus 7 driver installed, but got no luck.

cant transfer pictures to computer?

I tried to connect my nexus 4 to my PC , but it would not recognize it under my computer like it should so I could drag and drop. I tried mounting it as MTP and PTP and neither would be recognised.
I ended up transferring my pictures using adb, but I don't know why it didn't work the standard way.
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried using drop box? It's really simple and automatic. Just set it to upload only on Wi-Fi

I've used it before but I want to know why the nexus 4 was not recognised by my computer
Is Android debugging on?
Is it having trouble with installing the MTP driver ? Try turning off USB debugging, I couldn't get MTP to work until I did that.

Maybe you've got the same problem that we have here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005437
Maybe you try:
A different USB port
A different USB cable
Uninstall existing drivers + installing the drivers again
A different computer
And if all that didn't help you can join us in the above mentioned thread. We don't have a solution yet but maybe we can draw some attention to the issue.
All the driver seem to be fine and the nexus 4 is recognised via adb. It used to work before so I don't what's wrong.
Edit: yes USB debugging was on
Ok, but that's actually good! What happens if you plug it into a different usb port?

It says your device could be faster with USB 2.0 and then it is not recognised.
Now that's really odd. Have you tried a different USB cable?

I'm using the stock lg cable. I'll try with my nexus 7 cable.
Edit with my nexus 7 cable it says connected by the windows 7 notification, but when I check in computer it does not show anything
But you have seen your N4 in the explorer before, right? I have seen my N4 on my GFs windows machine as Nexus 4, not as a storage device.

It shows up under devices and printers, but not under my computer
Edit:maybe it has to do with android 4.2 because I just plugged in a flash drive and it showed up under my computer
And what happens if you double-click it there? Can you get your pix then?
Edit: I didn't find my N4 as a storage device, so you can't find it as a letter in your explorer but a real device.

If I double click it it takes me to nexus 4 properties. My nexus 7 does not show up in my computer either that's what bled me to think it has to do with 4.2
Edit:nevrmind its not 4.2 because I just connected a lg motion which is running 4.0 and it does not show up either
Maybe someone with a win7 machine can chip in here, since I think it is a windows problem. I am on a linux laptop, so I can't really help you there. But good luck anyway!

Thanks for your help
By George, I fixed it I went into device manager I right clicked on SAMSUNG android phone then nexus 4 under that section, then I clicked update driver. Then I clicked on browse my computer for driver software after I clicked on let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and I select mtp. The all of a sudden auto play came up with my device connected as a camera (ptp)
Now all my phones show up under my computer
MTP uses a completely different driver from ADB. So you can have one working but not the other.

[Q] Windows xp will not autoplay Nexus 4

No matter what I do my windows xp machine will not autoplay my nexus 4 so I cannot drag and drop files. I'm pretty sure I have the right drivers installed. I found them in some other thread. I know it's not the phone cause whenever I plug it into my roommates windows 7 computer it opens right up. Please help!
Try disabling usb-debugging if you have it on.

Tried that, nothing happened. In device manager it shows up as Android ADB Interface but my computer will not autoplay it for the life of me.
It should be showing up as an MTP device and installing an MTP driver if you want to be able to open up a file window etc. On XP this often doesn't work till you turn off USB debugging on the phone.
It sounds like you might still not have the correct MTP driver installed.

Nexus 4 and 7 won't connect to Windows PC

Hello
I have a Nexus 4 Kit Kat 4.4.2 and a Nexus 7 Kit Kat 4.4.2. I also have a Microsoft Windows 7 Desktop computer.
In the past I was able to connect my Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 to my Desktop computer with no issues and swap files to the Desktop. These files were usually music MP3 files. However I was able to swap what ever I wanted over.
Today when I connected my Nexus 4 to my Desktop I kept getting error messages every second saying installing drivers or pop up screens asking what to do such as open file. Occasionally I would see Nexus 4 as portable storage but it would vanish within a second. I would also get notification noises every couple of seconds as well.
As far as I am aware I have:
USB debugging ticked
USB computer connection Media device (MTP) ticked
This is all very confusing and frustrating.
As far as I can tell my Desktop, Windows 7 is up to date and that my computer tells me that I have the correct drivers for the Nexus 4.
I have just connected my Nexus 7 to my Desktop and got the error message unknown device. Up till today, I never had a problem with my Nexus 7, but its been a couple of months since I connected them to my Desktop computer.
Any help would be much appreciated.
As an edit
I connected a Gingerbread phone and that would NOT connect to my Desktop
However I connected an ASUS TF300T Jelly Bean 4.2.1 and that connected first time with no problems
I would try re-installing the drivers. Google 15 second adb drivers xda

Hello
I have tried to install new drivers from this site and ASUS's own site but I can not.
Windows 7 keeps telling me that I have the most up to date drivers.
Very confusing
Habe you tried out all your USB ports? Sometimes it refuses to on some ports.

Connect your device. Open device manger, find device. Right click, properties, driver, uninstall driver (tick checkbox to also uninstall driver software) reinstall driver.
I have errors like that often on PCs, but mostly Apple Computers when running Parallels/Bootcamp. Installing an reinstalling can work, but also switching between the MTP and camera may help temporarily solve the issue
Get usbdeview and get rid of of all Nexus-like entries, then restart and reconnect, see if that helps. Also did you switch from mtp to camera and back? It did help for me in the past in similar situation.
