Hi Guys. Not sure if this is possible or not. I really love the stock G2 launcher. Is there any way to setup a backup home screens option like Nova Launcher has? I never dirty flash ROMS. Always do a fresh install and this would be an awesome option to have. Setting up home screens every time takes a bit but it's doable. I feel this would be a great option to have. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. Please move it if necessary.
Why dont you back up the app with titanium backup ? Then when you install a new ROM, just restore its "data". Should work... I hope..

Hi all,
I am interested in trying custom roms for various reasons on my G2. With the recent breakthrough in allowing full root, now seems to be a good time to try.
What I don't seem to be grasping is the whole process so, here is what I think* needs to be done, and I'd appreciate a more seasoned person to set me straight
1. Obtain full root via RAGE or oneclick Visionary method
2. Install RomManager
3. Obtain Rom
Here is where I kind of get blurry on the whole topic.
Once I have the files needed, Does RomManager do a nandroid backup so I can revert back in case I want to revert back to stock? Is this how I would revert back to stock or do I need to find the original pre or post OTA rom for the g2?
Does a program like Titanium Backup allow me to backup all of my apps and settings so they are easily restored no matter the rom, or if I revert back to stock?
Thanks in advance all, I have been reading every subset of these forums but I still feel a bit scared to try and wanted to get the facts straight before trying. I'm mostly just concerned that I wouldnt be able to revert back to stock if I had to.

rom manager can perform the backup, wipe, and install of a new ROM all in one go, you just need to tell rom manager where the ROM is on the sdcard and it will ask if you want to backup and/or wipe first

i do not know if titanium backup will restore the settings within the apps, but the backed up apps will work on any custom ROM you install on your phone.
Thank you for making that more clear!
So when wiping for a new rom, you want to wipe the cache, and do a full system wipe as well?
Lastly, now that I have the stock g2 rom backed up (did it manually via recovery, not in the rommanager app) I can flash as many roms I want to try them, but really can revert back to stock based on that backup. I guess what I'm saying is, I dont have to revert to stock before trying out a new rom right?
Thanks again, this is a huge help!
With your ROM backed up, that's essentially a "screenshot" of the state of your phone at that time. So yes, you can jump from ROM to ROM, clearing data, and whenever you're ready to go back to stock, you just restore your stock ROM and pretend nothing happened.
And yes, I recommend wiping everything when flashing a new ROM. Although if you're coming from the same type of ROM (I.E HTC Sense to another HTC Sense) you can probably get away with not wiping data.
And with Titanium Backup, I do reckon that settings are kept. When you restore apps, you're given the option to restore the app or app+data.

Perfect,
Thanks for the help all, much appreciated.
Hello!
I still have Eclair 2.1 on my Epic 4g. It is rooted and right now I want upgrade it to Froyo.
How can I restore all apps and Data from the phone I have now. What do I need to do after flashing Rom to Epic 4G. Those apps that I already have installed, they will be restored somehow or I need to do something to restore it?
I've already did backup data and apps. Where can I reed something like FAQ with all that questions.
Please, sorry for stupid questions.
Also, I need some advice about the Rom. What rom better to install?
Thank you very much

First things first, wrong spot for this post...
2. titanium backup or any other good backup program that backs up to sd
back up the programs
install the rom
download titanium backup from the market again
reinstall the apps.
3. MY ROM (superheroes) otherwise I would go with mammon's that's the basis for my rom and his roms I have to say are the most stable and overall best out there... (my opinion)
There are a few other roms out there that are good roms, I would say check them out.
BTW this thread will most likely be moved or deleted !
Thank you very much. I have one more questhion. After upgrade to Froyo do I need to register all o my accounts or there is some way and it will be registered somehow?

I am glad this question was asked, because when I originally researched it, I found the same answer.
When using Titanium Backup, the restore process is tedious because it asks you for every single application if you want to install or not. If you have a lot of apps like I do, that was a pain. Any way around this?
ALSO, when doing a Titanium restore, it would indeed install all of my apps, but if I went to the "My apps" section of the Market, they wouldn't show. Is there any way to restore applications so that they show up in Market, which would allow them to be detected and updated (if a new version comes out)?
Odd thing happened to me when I flashed to noobnl's CM6 port. I didn't backup/restore any applications, but when I logged in to my google account, Market automatically reinstalled all of my apps (it must store my active app list server side?)
because i have no shame, i'll admit it. this is my second root ever. first was on my droid 2 r2d2 to remove the crap that wasnt necessary.
using this tutorial, just google samsung continuum froyo, and its on addictive tips. I followed the directions properly.
Basically, I used odin3 with a custom froyo rom, i did everything correctly, and i began to use titanium backup to remove some bloatware. what i removed was the GO Launcher stuff and now my homescreen is just a black screen. I've tried using recovery mode and restored that way. i've done that 10+ times. i cant get to any apps, only pressing the bottom ticker to access my text messages and notifications slide down bar. thats it. no apps. at all. can someone tell me how to revert back to the original software? then i will re-root again and this time NOT remove anything. or someone can show me properly how to remove it.
thanks. itll help a lot!
Go launcher (in most roms for the continuum) the ONLY launcher installed so when you got rid of it with TiB you screwed the whole UI. Try booting into Recovery wipe data fact reset wipe cache. then reboot. pull battery reflash on odin, make sure repartition is unchecked. let it reboot. should be back to normal.
can you explain that in a different way. i tried wiping in recovery mode it didnt work
Are you using <2e> recovery (samsung stock) or CwM?
You removed the launcher, this is why. You probably deleted a file called TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
You have a few options now, do you have CWM installed? If so go download another rom, put it on your sdcard some how then install it. It will save you much time and you don’t have to remove the bloat as it’s already removed.
If you aren’t familiar with CWM(clock work recovery) I would suggest researching it s you will be dealing a lot with it.
I would recommend reflashing via odin so that you have all files again. If you want to get rid of bloat, install nuckin or eco07-clean they both are good basic roms. I am currently working on a rom which is called miunia it is as minimalistic as I can make it. It is still in beta forms but it can be installed through odin. If you want the launcher I suggest flashing one of mine for the time being..

if you deleted the actual file, just rebooting the phone won't fix the issue. you will have to replace the launcher or factory reset.
For future reference, another option is to get on android market from your computer and download a launcher. It will send it to your phone and install automatically. Then, when you hit the home button, it should run the launcher.

Im sure this question has been answered somewhere but i can't seem to find it. I was wondering if some one could give me detailed instructions on how to flash roms on my DROID x. Im running android 2.3.3 and system version 4.5.605. I have rom manager with cwm recovery flashed and paid for the d2bootstrap app.i also rooted with petes one click moto root. Im just having extremely difficult time figuring out how to flash roms. Id appreciate any help?
First things First.
You said you have CWM flashed.
Good.
Make sure you have 2-3 gigabytes of free space on your SD card.
Boot into that via Rom Manager and make a "nandroid backup" as you'll hear them called.
[Simply labeled Backup]
Now Select Reboot.
Open Contacts>Settings>Export To SD (or something similar).
Install This
https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.eguchi.android.bookmarkbackup&feature=search_result
And backup your browser bookmarks.
Next install this.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en
(The Pro Key makes this process...faster...but not any different.)
Open it up and Options>Batch>Backup all User Applications
Now...Find the ROM you'd like to try.
http://rootzwiki.com/forum/16-droid-x-developer-forum/
I'd Suggest Liberty 3 if you're wanting a semi-stock experience with good battery life and decent customization.
MIUI if you want a SUPER pretty experience...with superb customization.
Or
CM7 if you want Great customization + AOSP (How Android feels STOCK).
*Use RevNumbers pinned in the CyanogenMod Forum for CM7
The download you find will be a .zip.
Put this on your SD card...
And boot into CWM.
I always do a factory Reset Here.
And then...
Navigate to Install Zip From SD...
Find it...
Install it.
Congratulations!
You're now running a Custom ROM!
You can now import your contacts...
Sign into your google account and reinstall Titanium and that Browser Backup app...
And use Titanium Backup to restore your Applications (Most people Say NOT to restore Data with this, as it may cause Force Closes...however...if you do...You can always Factory Reset from CWM and Reinstall the Zip if you have problems. Data = Saves for your Games...how Facebook Remembers your Password...stuff like that.)
And that other application should restore your browser bookmarks.
If any of this process leaves you with a broken phone...
And you somehow messed up...
Or would simply like to return to where you were...
You can use CWM's "Restore" option to restore your backup...
Or if you can't boot into CWM...
You'll SBF
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/331-guide-flashing-droid-x-sbf/
Re-root...
And restore.
man i really appreciate you taking time to explan all that to me. it worked FLAWLESSY!! im finally rooted and flashing custom roms with no problems thanks to your answer. so thanks man
No problem at all man.
The hardest part of flashing your first rom is finding out how to do so.
I wish there was a simple guide out there stickied in every forum, as I know I could have used one...would have saved me a couple sbfs...and I'm sure I'm not alone on that.

Are you talking about the Home Menu under Settings->Devices? I am on LMY48M and it is there for me. I can toggle between either Launcher and Google Now Launcher which are the 2 I have installed. Have you installed another launcher? It may just not show unless you have more than 1 launcher to choose from, but have never thought to look.
