Thoughts/Comments on the 4.4 Korean Update? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone here have the official 4.4 Korean OTA update? Does it include the Kitkat dialer? That's pretty much the only major change from 4.3 that I appreciated.
Also- does it include the multi-task/tile soft button? The lack of that button drove me absolutely bonkers, having come from a Nexus 4.
Any other noteworthy changes?

[Q] Official Samsung Update Android 4.4.2

there will be a problem? if i install first the official update to android 4.4.2 on my samsung galaxy s4 (i337m) and then install a custom rom like "skyfall"
there will be a problem with Knox, Bootloader or something like that?
Is the otA update being pushed still? 3 phones never got the update at&t. Mine I had to go manually request it. Just curious if they eventually gonna be pushing it to all

Looks like the bug fix for the battery drain problem on 4.4.2 is addressed with the 4.4.3 update which is coming soon. This update may explain the slow down for the 4.4.2 update hitting as scheduled.

Any idea when AT&T S4 will get this Update???

First off, as an Iron Maiden fan, love the user name.
As far as 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, I would almost be surprised if the S4 ever got either officially. Having said that, there are a few custom roms via Safestrap that are running 4.4.4. And, many more are coming.
Be careful what you wish for. Any new release beyond NC1 may kill the towelroot exploit leaving I337 users without root or any path to custom ROMs....even safestrap wouldn't work.

My guess we will have it in the upcoming days. But there is nothing to get excited about, 4.4.4 is just bug fixes. I put together a safestrap rom based on tmobiles release yesterday to preview the changes. No ui changes or noticeable speed changes. As for root....the kernel swap then towelroot method should work.

P600 NI1 rolling out in the US

No idea what's in it (still 4.4.2), but the kernel build is September 3.
ChromeCast Issue Update - FIXED!
Holy crap, Samsung and Google seem to have fi-friggin-nally fixed the Chromecast SystemUI crash with this update! :good:
Just updated the 103 Mb package and did some testing using Chromecast with Google Play Music, YouTube and some other apps - no SystemUI crash despite trying hard!
To anyone that had the SystemUI crash with Chromecast after 4.4.2 update - definitely recommend trying this update out.
That was the issue? I never made the connection between using Chromecast and the system.android.ui error loop I kept getting. Thank goodness that has been fixed!
I just updated this morning, but haven't had reason or need to check. Thanks Samsung!

Hi buhohitr,
You've probably seen this already, but NI1 is out on SamMobile. You can get it there and flash with Odin.
I believe this is the link...
NI1 Firmware
I beleive USA is the XAR, and NI1 is not available yet.

I received the download, but haven't loaded it yet (for the US variant).
Where does the update save to on our device? I'm rooted and using twrp, but with the Wanam fake system status hack so I was able to download the update, but I don't know how to install it.
Guys, I never rooted my tab, so is officially stock Samsung jelly bean 4.3 , myn question is, if I flash this firmware via odin, Knox status will trip to 0x1?

That's the update I've been waiting so patiently for! Can't wait to see if it's true.
Hmm...anything else change? An Xposed module has been available to fix the Chromecast / SystemUI clash for a while now.

Lockscreen widgets functioning?
Flashed NI1. Lockscreen widgets confirmed. Everything is working as said, no more Chromecast crashing... It's a fantastic rom, finally. And only weeks before L is released. Lol
Might consider selling it and picking up the rumored 9 inch Nexus tablet. Will have to see its specs when it is announced.
Flashed it looks good everything works..but I rooted again and went back to the tab S rom.

How do i get lockscreen widgets functioning? I can't seem to find it in the settings like I could in Roms based on an international firmware.
Flashed NL1
Seems fast everything works. I rooted after and also installed TWRP without issues. Had to run one of the SD fixes to correct SD card issue. But I'm pleased with the speed. Enjoy!
Does anyone have a changelist for this firmware release? I can't find it anywhere.

What i fear about the incoming Lollipop

From all the leaked screenshots we can see, android 5.0 looks exactly like the kitkat LG UI. We are not getting the pure, stock lollipop(like white drawer etc). So, if we are going to loose unlocked bootloader, do we really need it?
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. If you don't like the theme LG is using then stick with what you're using now.

If I understand you right there is two questions in what you wrote:
1. is LG keeping their signature UI design in the upcoming upgrade Android 5.0?
Answer: yes because this is always how it has been and will continue to be, valid not only for LG. Exception of course Play editions for some makes. Pure Google/AOSP UI look without LG launcher/apps will always be via custom roms.
2. Will I loose my Bumb/unlocked bootloader if I take the official upgrade?
Answer: not sure that will work either, but ya one could loose ability to bump bootloader after flashing official update. As soon as the upgrade is official some stock rooted roms will pop up ready to be flashed. There is even a leaked android 5.0 around now

Don't worry, that fear is experienced by TouchWiz users long time go.

There's more, MUCH more, to 5.0 than just the UI. To be honest, the visual changes are actually secondary to the system changes as far as I am concerned. I'm far more interested in the power management updates, camera enhancements, etc... Material design is basically window dressing.

Why did you think LG s going to release a AOSP looking L ?
Most of what you see in stock is just the Lollipop Now Launcher, which is limited and to my eyes ugly as sin. All that white is just horrible.
Most of the rest in the G3 is similar to the same as stock. Either way ill be using Nova, so its fine.
They will be changing it a bit

[DEV][REF]How to add root support to LL boot.img
As long as you dont install the new bootloader, you can keep TWRP.
They figured out that the new boot.img could be bumped and flashed in the old bootloader.

This wasn't the case with the note 2. The update to 4.3 bootloader blocked going back to an earlier stock version of android.

Also, although @autoprime has confirmed the release of Android L for the D855 does not implement anti-rollback, this does not mean that other variants will not implement something to keep us from going back to previous software versions, then you may be stuck with Android L but no root or TWRP permanently
