Hi everyone,
I want to buy a Nexus 7 wifi with 8GB of storage and I want to know if this device is supported by the Nexus 7 toolkit.
I'm asking this because in the nexus 7 toolkit main page the N7 8GB version is not mentioned (there are only references for the 16 and 32GB versions).
Please let me know.
Thank you.

It should work fine. It most likely was not mentioned because the 8Gb was basically discontinued for a period of time. Still, fastboot is a much better option.

Thanks, I did some tests with fastboot in ubuntu and it worked well...is there some documentation about?
In particular I need to find the fastboot cmd line needed to UNroot a device.
P.S : I already know how to lock/unlock the bootloader.

You don't root or unroot using fast boot. Technically you can unroot by flashing a new stock system.IMG in fast boot.
The only thing you will usually be using fast boot for is locking/unlocking boot loader, installing recovery the first time, and reinstalling stock images in case of issues in the future.
There are guides on this very site in this very sub forum that explain how to root and flash recovery without the crutch of a toolkit. They are in the stickies.

Hey guys, I've made a pretty simple video tutorial on how to Unlock the Bootloader and Root the new Nexus 7.
Here it is:
I know I don't have a well known name on the forums at all, but I thought it would at least be nice to post this. :good:
NOTE: THIS ONLY WORKS ON THE 2013 NEXUS 7 (2ND GENERATION), YOU COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR NEXUS 7 IF IT IS ANY OTHER VERSION.

That's true. But the Nexus 7 is the best Android device I've ever owned. Ran it stock unrooted for a few days, and then unlocked, rooted and flashed Sinless ROM (after making a nandroid backup, of course.)

So i recently bought a new N7 and i was searching for a good rooting guide on rooting but i couldn't find any.... So can anyone give me a link to a guild(i would like a simple and easy method) to unlock bootloader and flash recovery and root my grouper please.......

2012 or 2013 model. You say new but also say grouper so just trying to make sure you know what you have as many people are clueless. If 2013 you need to go to that forum if 2012 do an actual search query for rooting a nexus 7 it's a common topic. Many people want to use tool kits to do it but it is recommended you read up on fastboot and adb in the event a problem crops up it is easier to fix.

Rooting for both devices takes 30 seconds to do manually with the same steps except the recovery image.

There are these things called stickies. They reside in the top section of each forum. You should read some.

Hello everyone,
I just recently updated to kitkat and am wondering what new features come for the nexus 7 . I read quiet a bit about the features online but they are either don't apply to the 2012 nexus 7 or i just can't find them . I did stumble upon this nexus 7 thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506506
It seems to have most things that I believed would be updated. I installed the Google launcher and love it . So do I need to install all these updates manually even after the official 4.4 update ?
Thank you for the help
John
