[Q] Defy help - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using a Defy and an iPhone 5s now.
Want to keep Defy as a general use phone now.
no gaming, only calls and messages.
Suggest me the lightest rom which gives me the best battery life and faster experience while using basic things on the phone.

Smoothest Rom + Battery Drainage Very Low

Sorry guys to open the classic topic about roms, but I've tried a lot of them without finding one able to achieve a good place in my top 3. Can you suggest me a very smooth rom (like iOS) with a very low battery usage? Thank you

Agree it is a classic question
and a classic answer is always 'try them all and see which one suits you best'
personally I found Pongster Hyperdroid (NAND) the best combo of func+battery...
as a rule Sense based roms will have more battery drain
can try
Ok will try it, ty!

WHY WHY WHY do people find the need to RECREATE this exact same topic every day? Why not just read the topics that already exist? The question and answersd are exactly the same, No need to dilute the forum, Its just not on.

Well simply put;
Compaired to the MDJ CM7 and Cotulla's Stock Rom all roms I've tested this month(about 5) are laggy, slow, have errors(applications stop working and that kind of stuff) and some don't even start. Therefor I was also thinking about creating a topic like this one, simply because it is a pain to find a good one out here these days...
No disrespect on the cooks,.. Your all hero's!
i use Coredroid 1.4 and i have about 5 mA

the only rom ive personally got running as smooth as my mother's ipad, dads iphone 3gs, or brothers iphone 4, is hyperdroid gbx. it runs actually fastER than both iphones in side by side comparisons (angering my family), and about the same as the ipad in overall smoothness. battery is phenominal, the only rom ive gotten to last all day with my heavy usage i like to play with my phone a lot (for standby 3-5ma depending on apps running)
3 mA in standby on desireZ 3.5
I think that's the winner
also I wouldnt dare to say it is not smooth or smth
I've also tried few ROMs and for me the best one is Rafdroid HD 3.1 Lite edition (without ext partition on SD). Everything works smooth out of the box.

The best ROM for NAND I've come across. HyperDroid GBX
It is extremely light. only 60MB installation zip
It is extremely fast and responsive
It has great battery life.
I used the phone extensively for about 16 hours (all day) with about an hour of calls, around 30 SMS' some EDGE usage, a lot of wifi usage at home. It was still at 70% by the end of the day! If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is
Manages around 2-5mA in standby.
Oh and any way I can get AmeriCanDroid on NAND? :O
I miss cyanogenmod
Thanks for your support! What a great community!

Moto-Mytouch4G. I've been using it for a month and its beautiful. The only one I've tried where the battery last the day for me. Very smooth very well laid out. Great nand!!!
My choice is Rafdroid 3.1 with ext4 partition. In stand by mode I have 2-4 mAh...
I think, best ROM is MDJ Cyanogenmod 7,smooth and most battery saver ROM what I have tested with lot of settings.
IMO, this is by FAR the best/smoothest build out. I've tried many, and this ROM is the baddest of all. The battery consumption is better, and all around functionality is good.

Iamgpc pure gingerbread with adw launcher ex 1.21. App drawer is very very smooth, fast screen scrolling and all works for me.

I like AmericanDroid. It's a SD build based on CyanogenMod7.
I've been using it and it works fine either out of the box or with ext partitions.

Regarding SGS ROMs/Kernels

Hi people. May I know what do you think is the best rom /kernel that gives you the strongest battery life? Best rom/kernel that makes your phone very fast?

I personally use RemICS-UX v.1.3beta, and find this very satisfactory.
The question is not an easy one to answer, since many factors come into play. What services do you have running? What apps are you using? What do you use your SGS for? And so on...
And at the end of the day, does the ROM you are using give you what you need on a day to day basis? Do you want TouchWiz? Or do you want a minimalist approach? Does it matter to you if certain functions aren't yet implemented on a particular ROM? You have to be happy and comfortable with what you are using! RemICS-UX has given my old SGS - and me - a new lease of life!
I find the battery life very good for what I want. Nevertheless, I always carry a charged Dexim power pack with me!
The speed of my SGS is good. There is an option to set the governor: I keep mine at 'on-demand', which seems to be a good compromise. But if you want 1.4 quad-core speed, then you are going to have to shell out for a new phone!
In ROMs/kernels - as in life - a balance has to be struck. So see what others have to say; look at the current popular ROMs; see what difficulties people are experiencing on a particular ROM forum. And don't be afraid to try out different ROMs and see what suits you.
EDIT: go to the Android Development section and see what is available: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665. The journey is as enjoyable as the arrival!!
ICS roms are really enjoyable but I have found them more battery greedy for a daily use than Gingerbread (3g and GPS especially consume more battery on Ics)
I have come back to Gingerbread recently (JW6), good old Samsung firmwares will always be more responsive and energy-efficient than custom ICS roms to me (if well used of course)

Hybrid CM10/Paranoid or CM10 Kang? Pros, Cons, etc.

So I have been off of here for a while and saw CM10 up and thought that was amazing...Then i saw the hybrid one and got confused. I'm going to upgrade to one of them but have no clue which one to go to. So I am trying to figure out the pros and cons of each (battery life, annoying bugs, customization, stability, etc). PLEASE no comments like "Hybrid is amazing! forget Kang!" or vice versa...that gives me absolutely no information.
Try them yourself, that's the best answer.
Both are constantly updating so no talking about stability or bugs for now...
So if choice's upon me I'd have that ParanoidAndroid (hybrid) 'cuz I just love tablet UI AND I don't even use any cellular functions of E4G. You can choose to your likings like me too. Hope you finally get attached to one of them, welcome to Jelly Bean!

CM10 Kang is near flawless. Only issue I have is roaming doesn't work. There is a work around where you can use the stock kexec boot to enable roaming and then boot back into CM10. This doesn't really help me tho as I live in an area where I'm not quite roaming and not quite on sprint's towers depending on where I am in my house. I use roam control to force roaming so I get 3 bars.
Hmmm seems like I'm *****ing but I'm not, this problem really only affects me. If you live in an area with decent signal go the Kang'd route, all the CM10 features and OMG is this ROM snappy!!!!! Even with the roaming thing it's still my daily driver and I just deal with poor signal at home because the ROM is worth it.
Since we're on the topic of CM10, does media through a BT headset work?

I'm on Paranoid now.. compared to CM9.. PA/CM10's battery life is much better. But...ehh.. about an hour of the day my cpu is running min: 1000Mhz for my GTA .....play long enough nd GTA eats your battery for breakfast, lunch nd dinner.

That's not true. Most users left here check general and Q&A as well as development.

It's really more about personal preference. PA=CM+framework changes+app to control those changes. If you want to take tons of time to get exactly what you want, PA is the way to go. If you want a simpler experience, with fewer worries due to the extreme level of control, go with CM.
so pretty much as far as battery life, possible bugs (if any), snappyness, etc., they are pretty much equal. just paranoid has alot more customization? I would have tried both already but there is some bug on my laptop that wont let me transfer files from my laptop to anything D:
APN & MMS Fix for ParanoidAndroid ROM

[Q] Best rom and kernel with amazing performance and good battery

Im looking for a specific kind of rom. One that has amazing benchmarks (ones the beat the note 2 since my friend always goes on and on about how amazing his note 2 is and now i finally got a hold of this phone i can shut his annoying quotes down and brag how gorgeous my phone looks to) but also has decent batter life that will last me as the same if it was stock or better. and what kernel should i flash with it. Currently im using a stock rom with faux123 enchanced kernel so i can make my screen look better. so im open to any ideas, thanks in advance.

Your title will make you become a good prey for trolling or noone gonna answer. It's very subjective to tell which ROM or kernel to be the best, and the ROMs and kenels in this 4rum are updated day by day. You can try and decide by yourself.
BUt I know your concern, I used to ask myself and everyone the same question. Hence I'll give you my review for stock ROM + FrancoKernel. These two gives me more than 4 hours onscreen + wifi (sometimes off) + sync (contact, gmail). I also UV 150mV to reduce the heat (at least that's what i am thinking). Heat? 20mins with NFS MW, my phone reaches 47celcius. 45 min -> 55celcius (it's not fixed).
Try them all and see what's best for your needs. Many roms and kernels out there.

OP as stated, only you can determine what is best for your device and you....just test the Development that is going on, there are to many variables involved to base your thoughts off others comments, usage & apps so on....ensure you do some reading and homework on your choice, Thank You.

Need some opinions..

Hi guys, I'm currently using a GT-I9300 and I would just like to ask if N4 is a good upgrade? Is the battery life longer even when rooted and does the stock charger work like a charm unlike the S3? Need some inputs (software, crispness, performance etc.) Thanks a lot!

If you root it and flash a good kernel than the battery life and the screencolors are much better. I run Franco kernel myself and i think it is one of the best kernels out there and gives you a 1,5 to 2 hours extra screenontime. But there are other ones as well. Best thing is to try them out and keep the one you like most. But in the kernel lies the biggest gain in battery and colors, not in the rom`s. And the N4 has no bloatware and gets updated to the latest firmware first.

In my opinion it's a good upgrade.
Battery life is longer if you choose right kernel, people can get 5+ hours screen on time on wifi and 4+ on 3G.
Charger works like a charm, no one has issue with the charger yet.
Software is definitely better on N4, it's pure google experience, faster and smoother. No battery drain issue on CM based or non-stock rom. You won't notice any lag on this device.
Camera is a bit disappointing tho, if you took so much pictures with your phone.
You won't see any "not working" list or "known issue" on any custom rom here as long as it's android based.
Overall N4 is better than i9300.

Just to add to all, almost every rom for n4 is bugless so you can try all and they will be for daily use. (maybe some exceptions there).

and just look at the previous Nexus phones they have longer life than any other main flagship phones from different companies...always get updated and development still going strong for those phones
For the sake of money I would say no: you could get some more battery life and stock Android, but on the other hand you can just install CM 10 for example and the camera will be worse.

If you want to enjoy the timely Android update, then got Nexus 4, if not, I think there is no need to get rid of the S3.
I've been hearing good reviews about n4 and for me, my s3's battery life is getting worse (im on cm10.1) and nexus 5 is still due at fall (according to rumors)
