[Q] I'm losing my mind.. Phone refuses to recognize GFs name.. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My gf's name is Dandilion.
In the searchbar, when I type "text John", the phone prompts me to text my friend John.
When I type "text Dandilion", it displays "Did you mean: text Dandelion" (with an E instead of an i) and shows me a web search for "text Dandelion".
This isn't even using voice. This is using my keyboard to type the search command. Why is this happening? It's driving me insane because I've tried using Nickname, Phonetic name, and I've been googling for a while without any leads.

Could it be because the keyboard interprets it as the flower, which is spelled with an "e", versus her name with an "i"?
I'm just wondering if it could be some sort of system wide auto-correction.

Get the same with my wife's name who's Pakistani! Though sometimes recognises it, if i use my (very poor) John Wayne impression! Try it it might work!

Isn't there in the settings where you choose what/where/how searches are done? Just checked and you can just check contacts. Try turning off the Web and Chrome. Give that a try and see what happens.

I just say "Set timer for X Minutes or hours" or I say "Set alarm for 10 P M" or "Set Alarm for 10 A M tomorrow" and it does it. Try saying that.

[Q] Can I set Google Now to detect voice straight away?

Hey guys can I set Google Now to detect voice as soon as I swipe up? I can't see options and it would be much easier whilst so I can send a text with touching my phone less for safety.
Thanks guys
I tried to do that as well but I didn't find any option. I doubt it's possible with stock phone. But I really hope I'm wrong.

Setting>Voice>Hotword Detection ??
Then after swiping up to open Google Now, you just say "Google" and what you want it to do..
example: "Google, Text Someone Don't Forget the Milk"

This, your language must be set to "English (US)" for the hotword to work. I tried it out for a while (I'm from the UK) but I didn't use it so switched back.

How to tell Google maps/ Google now I don't have a job?

This is kinda funny actually , I currently just study but Google now decided to choose a random location I walked a couple of times to as my "work" and now I get the card quite frequently on Google now , there's no option to not set a "work place " the only thing I can do is edit is the address ... :banghead:
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
when you get to work set that location as is..
Google Now setting have location settings for home and work.

Unemployed? Why not use your home address?.. or maybe the address to the EDD?

Sadly, no. I have the same issue. I work from home, so I use the same address for both. I messes up the % at home, % at work, % away graphs in Latitude, but at least it fixed Google Now giving me useless commute times.
Update: Go to https://maps.google.com/maps/myplaces and remove it there. It may still put in random places anyway though.

I got a chuckle out of that one...
But honestly to answer the OP, go to maps.google.com on your computer. I know use your computer for once. Make sure you're signed in, and hit "My Places." You can delete Home and Work by clicking on the expand menu buttons...
Since you frequently visit that place why not just let it give you the information whether you work there or not?
You can also head over to the google now settings and there should be an option to set a different work place ( A place you visit frequently, in my case School )

Is it possible to add more than 2 places?
And custom names?
Like home, work, school, daycare, 2nd job, girlfriends house, etc?

There is a way. Not by adding it directly to the settings page though.
Search the place you want to go to often and it will automatically give you timings to that place. Google Now will than ask you if you go to the place often and answer yes.
Edit: Sorry for the extremely late reply. Did not receive a notification that showed you replied.

Thanks, entering the addresses in Google Now is giving me the estimated travel time.
But it hasn't asked me if I go to the place often.
I'll keep trying, thanks.

Gboard no add to dictionary option

Still on 8.1
Haven't used Gboard a lot but I know add to dictionary was there in the past. Now it's not in the list. Cleared cache, downgraded, etc.... Only way to add words to dictionary is to go to the dictionary.
Any one else seeing this?

From what I gather... Just select the word... Or go back and put it to what you want... GBoard is supposed to learn... Not need to be taught

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that it might be like Swype and learn the words as you select them, but it seems like you have to use the word a few times before it learns the word. Like Swype.... I've typed it a few times but still doesn't know the word.
Sweet is what it gives me for Swype.... And you would think it would have learned sweetie (should have been Swype) by this post alone... But it hasn't.

Sadly it doesn't matter if i Swype or type. Some words it seems to lean and others is doesn't. Guess for those words I'll just have to go to dictionary via settings. And why the hell can't it capitalize i? LOL yeah i have it set in settings.... Just seems Google likes buggy software.
Thanks!

Think I got it working now ?
Updated Gboard.... Reverted to system version to see if the dictionary issue was present.
With the updated version if I type the word several times then it learns it. So Swype can be typed but not always Swype it lol.
The I issue was I had Auto correct off DERP!
Thanks again!

Why I aughta!
Glad it's working
Hi, i think i found a solution for this. Write manually the word and select any emoji but DONT PUT A SPACE between the word and the emoji, and the word will have a red underline instead of a blue one. If you write the word, space, backspace and emoji, it wont work. Then delete some of the few last letters and write them again, leave no space and insert emoji again. That worked for me
