New to the Galaxy Note 3 Forums, had ROM questions. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am new to rooting the Galaxy Note 3, I've rooted other devices in the past but haven't got around to doing it with the Note 3 yet. I was really just looking for a recommendation. I want to keep spen features for sure but don't want the bloat and would like to customize the notification bar and whatnot and also possible get better sound options like louder audio and better battery life.
What ROM is stable enough for a daily driver that I can use without any issues? Any recommendations are welcome, I realize there will be different opinions but I don't mind, I just want to find something better than stock that I can depend on. Thank you for your time.

These are the exact mods I made running beans ROM & it is 100% stable.

Ok cool I did it and am currently on beans now its pretty awesome so far, just wondering if you knew is there a difference in having beans on my ROM 1 slot and stock as my primary? Or is it fine to use ROM 1. And if possible do you know if you can change the battery to a stock one not circle? Thanks again!

The verizon one has kinda crappy battery life, other than that it is an amazing phone. Which HTC phone did you come from?

But hello anyways. And good bye. Enjoy your phone.

Hi guys, I'm kind of new to Nexus S too.
I have it for a while now, but I'd like to get some feedback on the best ROM's, because I installed the [JB] TSM update 6 the other day and even though I'm very pleased with how fast it is the battery life isn't that awesome..
What JB ROM do you guys use on your nexus, and how is the battery and performance of it?
Thanks in advance!

I am trying Rasbean Jelly at the moment, so far I'm enjoying the speed .
Thanks!
Also to OP, I acknowledge I am very bias, but enjoy the Sense-free interface.
So far I'm very pleased with Rasbean Jelly. My question to you now is:
Which Launcher do you use?
I want to be able to change themes and stuff, but overall I really like the default ICS/JB Launcher. What do you suggest?
Thanks in advance.

You should try Nova Launcher, that's the one I've been using for a while. It has the stock ICS/Jellybean launcher.

It's all depend on taste, there are lots of good launchers like Apex, Nova and Holo. I prefer Holo Launcher as it is one of the lightest and fastest.
-If you are using a CM10 based rom, you can also download CM9 and CM10 themes from the Play Store, check out some from thomassafca, they cost money* but they are well made and get updates. There is a CM10 Sense theme too. Note: each time switching between these themes, you might need to set back to system theme and reboot.
-MiUi rom also have many quality themes downloadable within the rom, it tends to be the best looking rom.
-Go Launcher have themes as well.
-A.I. Type Keyboard have excellent iPhone and Windows keyboard skin you might want to look at.
-You can also check the Nexus S Themes and Apps section.

Thank you guys, I'm going to test both of them and see which one suits me better .
I've been noticing another issue, that kind of bothers me: The phone is charging for alot of time now, and the battery indicator doesn't get up to 100%. I know this usually happens when the battery isn't calibrated, but I've already went back to CWM to Wipe the Battery Stats and even downloaded an app from the market to do so, and it still didn't work. My previous phone was a ZTE Blade and every time I flashed a ROM and wiped the stats it would become perfect, with the device indicating the battery at 100%.
What am I doing wrong here, or what do I need to do?
Cheers!

It normally takes a day or two for the battery to settle in and to fully charge @100% whenever I flash a new ROM.
Or change kernels .... that's helps also.
And to answer ur first question... I'm using:
SlimBean ROM with stable Air Kernel. Its has an all day battery life without issues.
good luck

I didn't know that, and I've just remembered that I flashed a new kernel for the first time, so that must have something to do with it . Thanks mate!
Cheers for all the help

What rom are you on?
I've had this on my stock jellybean rom before. But after switching to a rom with BLX installed you can change the percentage to how much the phone can be charged. The percentage cap at ~97% is made so the battery does not wear out faster.
I'm using Rasbean Jelly, with Trinity Kernel. It does make sense that the battery doesn't get charged to 100%,but that ability to reset the "new 100%" is something I'd like to to do.
How can I change that with this ROM?
Thanks

loss of features if not using stock rom?

just ordered my note 10.1 yesterday. should be here next week!
i have an s3, and i just updated it to the latest version of AOKP.
of course i'll be rooting it but i was wondering if anyone thought the tradeoff to using a different rom was worth it. i got the note for work (mainly notes and powerpoints) so i'd hate to not be able to use any of the features that really set it apart from other android tablets!
My personal experience left me inclined to stay with a touchwiz based custom ROM, some extra power and flexibility without losing anything. CM and AOKP are nice as always, but on this particular tablet I really find features like multi window, smart stay and air view to be well worth their weight. There's a growing selection of roms that retain all of the Note's features. I really liked Android revolution a lot, am currently on Collective edition. You can even enable all apps to multi window, which is just savvy!

That's what I was thinking. It'd be a shame to go vanilla and lose all the features I paid extra for! I'll check out some touchwiz based ones then.
Yep, I Cant Understand Why People Pay Premium $$$ then Go Vanilla Android And Loose All those Features They Bought The Note For In The 1st Place.... Each To Their Own...
Just Be Aware Too, Because Of All The Tweaks And Things Running In The Background You Might Find Your Battery Draining A Lot Faster... At Least, That Was My Experience. Went Back To Stock Rooted And Battery Lasts Longer...

I'm thinking I'll do the same thing I did with my phone: wait minimum 2 weeks before I start messing around. That way I have a good base to judge things like battery life compared to stock.
Thanks for the advice everyone! My Note should arrive on Monday!

I bought this tablet for the Wacom technology and s-pen, combined with the excellent hardware. All of that is perfectly fine in AOSP. Palm rejection, s-pen support, etc.
I did not buy this tablet to have multi view, but I can see where that would be a non-negotiable.

I'm sure at some point I'll experiment with an AOSP rom. I always wind up back at those...

I tried "Android Revolution HD" and "Omega" ROM, both are very nice and are touchwiz modified roms.
You should check them out.

Omega

One or both of them may use Aroma installer so may want to stick to Zedomax "HighOnAndroids CWM".
Zedomax also has a post "How to ROOT Galaxy Note 10.1" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
And here is one of his many .coms that he has that has an embeded step by step video on how to root you note 10.1, his root method includes CWM that does work with Android Revolution HD and Omega ROMs. http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/
TIP: I download the video of Zedomax root process onto my computer along with the files needed to root so I have them all in one place.
.
Whoa! Thanks!!

Completely opposite to my experience..
Most of the roms remove many bloatware apps and battery life improve
Thats been my experience as well. My S3 is way better on AOKP.

+1 - It Must Be The Custom ROM He's Using; Perhaps The Keyboard Is Broken In It
Kidding aside though, normally I only deal with AOSP-capable devices, but you have to admit that the TW version (and features) we have on the Note 10.1 are pretty nice- so I'm using ROMs that are as close to Stock as possible (namely, Darkman's ROMs and lately AR HD 5.0).
Also, most complaints about "bloatware" are completely unfounded and appear to come from users who read not-quite-fully-understood posts on forums like these. I've never used Crayon Whatever-it's-called nor the Music Hub, and the effect of either is negligible. They don't take up much in the way of storage either (esp. on devices with at least 11GB of free space out of the box).
Actually it's the stock rom for Australia... Was using my note to post... Samsung seem to have a bug in JB they released for us poor buggers down here. Only real problem with the stock rom though...:silly::laugh:
Not gonna complain too much though, It took them long enough to release it...

99% of the time its being used it's to keep the All-Share Cast Dongle working, which (due to DRM reasons) won't run if the flash counter is greater than 0. It really doesn't affect anything else, AFAIK.

[Q] I seek help and guidance

Hello everybody,
I am terribly sorry to do this to you, but I'm writing this on a very crappy tablet as my PC has run into quite a number of problems. That makes it very hard for me to dig for the info and my phone should arrive tomorrow. Anyway, now that I have somewhat justified this mischief of mine, I would like to ask you, the G2 people, a few questions. As I stated earlier, I ordered a G2 and I would like to root it and slap a good AOSP/Stock Android/AOKP/Nexus-ish ROM on it as quickly as possible. I have to do this over a friends PC, so I should tell him which files to download in order to make his life easier. Now, let's get to the questions. I live in Croatia (which is a part of the EU) so will I get the d802 variant of the phone? Which ROM would be most suitable for my needs, which are GTA San Andreas (when it comes out, trading a kidney for an early release), listening to music, a stock android experience and good battery life? The camera could come in handy because of all the holiday events taking place in the near future, but good camera quality isn't that much of a factor. Again, I am very sorry for asking these questions. If I had a normal PC, I would have searched for the answers myself, but I am desperate here. I'm going on a trip to visit my friend soon and I'd love to go there without the LG software and also without my phone getting stuck in bootloops or with bad battery life.
Thanks in advance!
Hi!
There's two paths:
Modding the stock rom
Benefits
Stable, fast
Excellent camera and audio quality
Bug free
Cons
Takes some modding in order to get it the way you like, if you like AOSP
You don't get the quick pulldown live tiles function from AOSP no matter what you do..
4.2.2
Recommended mods:
ROM and mods
StockROM from g.lewarne as a basis is a good choice
iOS7 navbar, looks just really nice in general
iOS7 icon pack 'Ios7 Flat' (dig around a bit for it) in conjunction with Unicon - an Xposed module (on Play Store) for nicer icons. Yuo can also use other icon packs of course. I say this because LGHome is recommended instead of ie. Nova Launcher, it's just smoother and nicer on the G2.
xdabebb camera mod for even better camera quality (the original app has its flaws)
Volume increase mod, the sound on stock is a bit low
V4A Viper4Android for even better sound
Freeze any unneccecary LG bloat through Titanium Backup (there's no need deleting them as the space isn't available anyway
iFont - changed system font to Helvetiva Neue, if you want the KitKat look you can change it to a light version of Roboto.
AOSP rom:
I've heard that Vanir rom is the smoothest atm
Pros:
4.4.x
AOSP apps
Lightweight
Cons
Unoptimized kernels
Not better battery time or performance
Feels rough around the edges
The implementation of things like the LED and 'knock off' and 'knock on' functions are not very good (you will learn to love them!)
audio quality is very bad, aosp camera also. there is a port of the LGcamera.apk, but it is very buggy unfortunately. Will make you upset very fast!
Thank you, you have been very helpful! I just might stick with stock for a while, at least to the end of the holidays.

I've spent quite much time with many ROMs and the best I find in CyanogenMod 11. I get 0% battery loss over the night. I get the latest software with best features of CM. I get above 31,000 Antutu benchmarks on this ROM and GTA San Andreas works flawlessly! Don't forget to use the latest TWRP 2.6.3.4 and you're good to go with this amazing phone. You can even get the quick remote and the LG camera apk on CyanogenMod. Good luck!

Slimkat doesn't have many issues... its very nice small and stable as well. instead of knock off use the navbar ring to set lock screen on a vertical swipe knock off problem solved until it is fully implemented. knock on works perfect. Great KITKAT rom.
stockmod rom is EXCELLENT no other way to describe it - my only issue has been audio quality when playing on my stereo through jack is very crackly...

Galaxy S6 PORT!!!

I wish and I hope any of our amazing developers can see this post as I want to know if its possible to PORT any GALAXY S6 ROM. With the new light weight TouchWiz version our Note 4 will perform even better and I guess battery life will be even greater. Please XDA community and Devs make this happen...Thanks in advance...Please comment anything related...lets make this happen, Thanks XDA community and XDA Developers.
You do realize that those ports are always less stable? Theming it and adapting various stuff is no problem, but it's better to wait for the official thing. Personally I don't hold high hopes that any "if" port will work really amazing well.

Porting parts of a new framework is one thing, but the new TouchWiz is radically different. Plus the immensely upgraded hardware contributes to the fluidity. If you just port parts of the framework, it will look like it, but feel like it as well? Maybe to some parts, but it's not just the new TouchWiz which makes the S6 fly [emoji14]
Powered by SimplRom and SimplKernel.
There's an active work to port S6 firmware to our Note 4. It's called "GlamourROM" and it's made by the XDA user @henrylife
While the rom is working, there're actually some major bugs here and there:
1) Front camera doesn't work
2) Grid View in launcher
3) SMS crash while writing longer messages
4) Framework's missaligned layouts
5) S-Pen doesn't properly work/it's not enabled in settings
6) Lockscreen effects
7) Automatic brightness
You can see all the work here . Cheers!

Searching a reliable Note 3 rom! Please Help.

Good Hello everyone,
a very long time ago I wanted to help my brother and flashed his Note 3 (N9005) with a ported rom. I wanted him to have a feeling like he got a new phone... anyway that kinda backfired because for a very long time he is using his Note 3 with the Camera crashing and FC, WhatsApp massage only receiving when he manually opens WhatsApp and Bluetooth disconnecting constantly! Not the best experience you can imagine and all because of me
The Problem we have is that we don't see each other often because of the distance. So when we meet I don't wan't to spend hours flashing and testing a rom. And I can't keep his Note for a few days to test drive it.
I really need help because I'm out of it and not really up to date any more.
Can you guys please recommend me a good reliable N9005 rom that is ported like N5/S7/N7 maybe? there are a ton of roms out here but I don't know which one is reliable and doesn't need fixes all the time.
Like I said a ported which is clean and minimal without any extra added mods and features would be perfect. Clean and simple reliable.
Thanks in advance guys :good:
RELIABLE
Then stick with Stock roms .

Yeah, I would suggest sticking with stock ROMS. But when it comes to suggesting an actual custom ROM, I suggest Phronesis Rom N7 v4.1
I've been running it for two weeks now and it's absolutely beautiful, it's like ACTUALLY having a Note 7... without the explosions of course.
An any issue you run in to, you can find an answer to in their thread. The only issue I came across was the audio quality and animation that got fixed by using the search feature in the thread
Agree with that rom.
But as OP is not the user its difficult to fix a problem from miles away .

MagMA NX n7 Port is best also when it comes to battery life you also use the debloat script to trim down some of its apps to get more juice out of it. So far one of the best N7 ports I ever tested (Aryamod,Norma etc.)
You might also want to consider the AryaMod S7E port, quite good too
You can also update his latest modem and bootloader currently PJ2
