I just picked up this tablet today, and would love any tips and tricks you all have to offer! Been an Android user since Cupcake, and this seems almost like the pinnacle! lol

I have rooted all of my Android devices since the OG Milestone, so I know my fair share of commands. I'm waiting to set up a build environment, so I can get the kernel work I started in finished!
Thanks for the tip though!

Honestly your best bet is to read, read, read for at least a week. Then do it. It helps if you have somewhat of an idea of what's going on and the terminology.

DO NOT Start there.. that is a link to a toolkit and until you know what it does and can do it manaully i would suggest you keep as far as possible away from it.
Agreed with the previous two posts.. All too often I see people who barely know how the phone even operates and immediately try figuring out how to root it. Use your device as is for a bit. It's a Nexus, you don't get any more of a clean default installation. Why you are using it do as said above, read, read, read, and read more. I'm going my third year of using Nexus devices and I still occasionally revert to unrooted stock just to enjoy the pure and clean AOSP experience. Why? Because it's a damn good experience still right out of the box. :victory:
Enjoy your device and ask as many questions as you need.. Asking isn't a crime. :good:
I think I'm one of the rare ones here who runs a stock N7. I am perfectly happy with it though and don't feel the need to root at all. It does everything I want it to already. For my personal needs, it's perfect.
Just because you're now running Android, doesn't mean you have to root it.
Hi there, I've been a member on XDA for quite some time ( Galaxy Ace ) , and I've gained a lot of knowlage so it feels stupid to post this thread but here goes anyway
I've got the 32GB only Wifi
- Is there a way to phone on the N7 trough wifi? - Sounds dumb but yea.
- Is there a way to whatsapp, that'd be great!
- Overclocking, good/ bad for this device in particular?
- Any stuff I should know?
Thanks - Hope to have a great time with you guys!
sorry also new to n7………………………………

Way too long to explain here. It would be better if you just read about it.

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. I underclock personally.

Didn't step on my toes. I just find it silly that people get mad when they have to put forth an effort to learn. And you know, that whole forum rules thing about searching before posting.

I'm K7C and I come from the doubleshot threads , I'm going to be getting a nexus 4 and wanted to know if I should get it. I like diff UI's and since this is the Nexus it has a lot of options. What would you rate your nexus with and without root. Thanks

Perfect description! Simply one cannot own a nexus and enjoy its full potential without root.
Not to mention the fact that the N4 is one of the easiest smartphones to unlock & root. Just don't use a toolkit, and enjoy learning about Android.

just because it glides, on its own, across seemingly flat surfaces, does not make it cursed

What's wrong with using the toolkit? If I can't use the tk then I will need someone to walk me through the process over the phone.

you learn nothing. so when you run into the issue, youre screwed since you dont know the basics. anyways, doing it the right way is just as easy as using a toolkit. all you need to do(in a nutshell) is fastboot oem unlock, flash a recovery via fastboot, flash either the su binaries or a custom rom in your new recovery, then reboot. nothing difficult. but learning to fastboot and to use the recovery is essential.

It's been several months since I made/updated a toolkit, but I'm looking to come back. Who would like for me to create a toolkit for this phone?

Would love a toolkit for the M8
Used it on my M7 and loved it. I'm sure it would be well accepted in the (quickly growing) M8 community.
Thanks for your work btw :good:
