Random S pen air command - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

So i just got the note 10.1 2014 black 16gb and for some reason, once in a while, when i either touch it at the corners or just pick it up, the device vibrates and activates the air command action, as if i had ejected the spen. i ran all the updates but cant find the source.. i would just return it and get a new one but was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Does this happen when your S-Pen is still in the silo?
If that is the case, its likely that your S-Pen doesnt have a snug fit, and your tablet is just detecting pen detachment which can be set to auto-open air command.
Try tapping/pushing on the backside of the pen while it is still in the silo, you'll probably trigger similar results.
No software workaround if that is the case, but others have suggested to wrap a piece to tape around the s-pen to give it a better fit in the silo.

Any feedback on cases with magnetic studs?

Hey all,
My Tilt is on the way from AT&T, and I'm looking at cases. The cases that seem to interest me all use magnetic studs. Some have said the magnetic studs can keep the Tilt turned on.
The 2 I like the most are the following:
PDair Book Type
ebay "Premium" Kaiser Case
Anyone had any experience with these or other similar cases with magnetic studs in a similar spot causing problems?
Thanks!
Dont want to hijack your thread but since your on the topic of that case anyone try "PDair Book Type"? Is it still possible to press the keys with the plastic over it?... It doesn't look like it, i seems like you would be pressing more than one button at a time with that plastic over the keyboard.

I think you'll be able to press the keys, but it wont be as good as without the case. As you said, you'll prolly press several buttons at onces and wont get the same feel when typing.
I've used a Prestige case with magnetic closure for a year or more with my AT&T 8525. Never noticed a problem. I'm now using the case with my Tilt, but that's only been a few days. Haven't noticed anything yet, however.
I'm using the PDAir flip case -- the magnetic stud doesn't affect anything. The plastic keyboard cover isn't too bad -- I haven't noticed any problems with multiple keypresses, but it does affect the feel of the keyboard.
I'm looking forward to the Piel Frama case, which should be coming out in the next few weeks. They had a really good case for my old Wizard that used a narrow leather strap & snap to hold the device in the case; you'd unsnap the strap to access the keyboard.
Depends on the magnet strength and location, there have been a few reports of the magnet turning on the phone. The kaiser keyboard uses a magnetic sensor to turn on the phone when the keyboard opens. I'm using a hip holster with mag and not seeing any issue.
I'd say should anyone have the issue, start a thread with brand/model listed for others to avoid.
I have the Seidio case I originally bought for my 8525.

The two magnets would always "trick" the screen into thinking the keyboard was open and switch it to landscape mode. I always had to wait a few seconds for the screen to switch back when I took it out of the case.
This does NOT happen with the Tilt. The screen stays in portrait mode. I have always liked the quality of the case and the magnets in the flap make it easy to open and shut. So now it is my perfect solution.
no issues here

I have been using a case with two magnetic studs on the flip closure for months now and have had zero issues. Bought mine at Fred Meyers and recomend anyone in need of a good black leather horizontal pouch case to check it out. was 15 dollars and is of the same quality and fit as 40 dollar cases you may see online.
cheers
I've been using a Motorola Case designed for the Q9 with my Tilt and it's worked out quite well. It also has a single magnetic stud closure and I have noticed no issues at all.
I bought the PDair Book Type case same week the Tilt first came out here in the U.S. I have had no problems at all. Non of that shutting off by itself thingy people complain about.
Magnetic cases
Some cases cause screen to wake up, some don't. To eliminate the problem just turn off Slide Wake option in registry. When slide wake is enabled opening the keyboard (or getting too close to a magnet) will wake the screen. Turn this option off and you can use magnetic clasps at will.

Stupid magnet.

ok so, ive noticed recently that my TMO MDA, takes a while to load correctly on an incoming call, because it has to rotate the display, even tho i put it in normally.
turns out...
my case has magnets at the top, and no matter how i put the fone in, it will pick up that magnet, and rotate itself, then rotate back. WHY?????????
i was thinking that i could just like basically find the component ( if ur looking at the back, its toward the bottom left, behind the stylus holder) and remove it.
but maybe theres a better way?
any thoughts?
wouldn't it be easier to take the magnets out of the case? replace them with velcro or something? I certainly wouldn't alter my phone so it works with the case.
That's because the sensor is a reed switch. When the keyboard slides out, a magnet on the keyboard moves close enough to the switch in the other half of the phone to activate it.
Removing the switch (even if you found it - they can be really tiny) would result in phone screen not rotating with keyboard slided out, and you probably wouldn't want it, would you? I'd say to modify the case with velcro or some diffrent locking mechanism, or get another case instead.
that would make sense
ima try to modify my case then. thanks for the immediate response!

[Q] Option to turn off S Pen detection... working properly?

Hi everyone,
I wonder if I'm going crazy, but you're supposed to be able to turn off S Pen detection when the S Pen is holstered. However, on the lockscreen this doesn't seem to be properly implemented. What I did was to holster the S Pen with that option turned on supposedly to reduce power consumption, then take my Note 10.1's S Pen and hover it over the lockscreen. I could then clearly see the watercolour effects as if a finger or S Pen were being dragged across the surface. However, the device will not unlock. I have to say though, that my device is a lemon - the screen has blue specks and streaks on dark areas so I'm waiting for Samsung's response to my case. I don't know if these two issues are related, but... is that option to turn off the S Pen detection actually working properly? Could someone else with another wacom stylus please try this and see if the device continues to detect the S Pen at the lockscreen even with that option on?
Cheers

DirectStylus does not work

I have a problem on Advent Tegra Note 7 when I pull a stylus so I start an application designed for touch pen. Tablet simply does not respond to that, I took a stylus. I tried to restart the tablet. It did not help, just all of a sudden it stopped working.I do not have Root. Android version is 4.3 / JSS15J.15576_311.0064
Does anyone have any idea where is the problem?
Do you have absolutly no input from the stylus, or is the input not what you would expect? Clarify, please.
When you pull the stylus away from the tablet, so the tablet does not start the application, which is triggered when the touch pen drawn.
Here is video:
Ahh, thanks. i think you should return it, your tablet does not even show the additional buttons in the navbar, seems like some sensor or something is broken.
i would suspect a hardware issue!
I hope it will be just a software bug. As I happened by itself that I launched the application as if it was pulled out (pen), but was still plugged.
Last chance is to do a factory reset, but in that I really want, I do not want to lose data.
Just wondering, cause even if you set that nothing should happen when you pull out the stylus, you get the additional navbar buttons.
but in your case.. nothing. i dont think that you can turn those off, so i think it must be an hardware issue that prevents the stylus recognition completly.. =(
I had that problem, try unscrewing the metal end and there is a metal screw inside, either tighten or loosen it and put it back together. Mine would not detect the stylus but when I loosened the screw inside it lined the detection magnets up better and now it works fine.

S-Pen Issues

Anybody having a problem with s-pen? I'm on Beans' rooted 4.4.2 from stock 4.3 and my s-pen won't work on screen. The phone detects the pen as I can hear the notification when pulling the pen out and reinserting it. Also, if the Air Command setting is turned on, the widget will appear when pulling the pen out. It just seems like the screen doesn't detect the pen. I've even tried numerous pen tips. The same pen does work fine on my note 4. Thanks.
try a different s-pen. the little "battery" in it might have died. the sound comes from a switch inside the note that moves when you slide the pen in/out

The S-Pen doesn't have a battery...besides which....he said the pen worked on a Note 4.
The S-Pen gets its power from coils behind the screen. If those go bad..the pen doesn't work.

Thanks guys. Since its not the screen...does anyone know if the coils can be replaced?
