Hi all,
I experienced a weird thing with one of my Defy. It was possible to charge the battery, but when plugged to a computer, the phone wasn't recognized, the computer always returned an error.
This was a great problem, because the only easy way to flash a stock ROM on the phone is via the USB port.
I decided to check for a cracking soldering and finally opened the phone.
Use a torx T5 screwdriver to remove the 9 screws and your fingernails to unclip both parts of the phone case.
Remove the back of the phone, you will see the motherboard.

}
Then remove gently but firmly the plastic cache near the USB port with a fingernail, there is only a sticky tape under.
The USB port is know uncovered.
There are 5 pins soldered to the motherboard, none was cracking.
BUT, there was some sort of verdigris or oxidation on the pins.
I took a thin needle (ask your mom ) and scraped what was in-between each pin.
Then I cleaned it up with a cotton bud and some nail polish remover (ask your girlfriend ).
Reassembled the back of the phone case, putted a battery back in, plugged the USB cord and tried a recognition with RSDlite.
It worked ! This Defy is revived.
Hope this will help !
PS : As this is my first post, I can not post pictures, sorry :/
And stop having baths with your mobile !
The pink color of the water marker on your motherboard point to the fact that you take more than one bath with your phone.
After you clean in-between USB pins is very good if as you just use the the polish remover of your girlfriend use some amount of polish or nail lacquer on the soldered pins to avoid furthermore corroding. Enjoy.
Thank you!
I repaired my defy thanks to you
But my USB port is different... Any advice such that I can get my defy alive back

I'm still laughing at myself...check it out...a large binder clip makes a great display stand with charging functionality. Just pull off the squeezing clips after you clamp down on the USB plug. It's actually pretty stable too. I'm sure you could even velcro it to your desk for more stability

nice, now if only my girlfriend would let me make a hole in the desk to make it look built-in!!
excellent...works perfect!
ha just did it, thanks!
As clever as it is,... be prepared to find a replacement socket for your phone after a while. The connector can not handle the stress of supporting it's own weight for very long.
You should try to find a way to support the phone along with the plug-in.
This is, however, a good start to a generic cradle.
Fun find!

the phone rests on the clip... what you talking about?
What about front to back movement?
Subtle movment wears on the connector circuit board.
thats what i mean... the front and back of mine rests on the clip. i have the rubberized snap case on so maybe my fitment is different.
I have just bought the clip and the "poor´s guy cradle"is just great! no problems here. Great idea!
Amazing found !!!

I will pay you $5 for this brilliant item!!!
Thinking outside the box. Great idea. As far as wear and tear, I think as long as you make sure you are putting the weight on the paper clip and not the device I wouldn't think there would be any problems even long term? I would go the extra length to cover the metal around the clip with something, wouldn't be hard, I don't like anything metal touching my phone. Heck, I haven't even set my phone down on a hard surface yet in fear the back diamond points will wear.
My only question right now is: I wonder how good it would work if I clipped in the dongle so I can have earphones connected for radio, and still charge it through ac, hmm and what would happen if you plug in the usb cable to the side of the dongle? Would you still be able to access it from a computer while its charging through ac or no?
Just did this mod.. Works great... Using the "handles" squeezed into the base works to stabilize the phone better when pulling it off the charging station . I will need to find some simple padding to rest the weight of the phone since it floats a bit over the clip..
... and I always thought I'm CHEAP ...
Hello, I have this problem on my phone:
I purchased this on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180844682216?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2134wt_1265
But did not solve the problem even with the new screen I can see those "pixels"....what's the problem then? cannot be fixed? could you help me out please? thank you!
thats only the thouch glass ! Not the display

yuo need to replace the LCD, The Bezel holds the Glass, which the digitiser is attached to ( allows the touch screen to opperate) this is the top bit that you touch, underbneath this is a separate LCD ( liquid crystal display) if the LCD is broken you get a bleeding effect on the display, if the glass is broken you get a crack, or spiderweb crack on the scree, but underneath the display is OK.
Have you tried putting your defy in the Freezer?
If it looks like this

it might work
Simply take your Battery SDcard and Micro SD card out of your defy and put it in a plasticbag and close it very hard so that no air or water gets in there
After 12 hours take your defy out and wait until it reaches normal temperature, rice can be good if some water got in there
Then put everything back in and look if it worked

Had these twice. They were gone after 2 days without freezer! Could be that it doesn't disappear with others. Anybody knows what it actually is?
Yours is clearly damaged. You only replaced the protection glass and digitizer(touch screen) and still need the LCD. Please don't put it in the freezer for everything.
Someone told me that the liquid crystals in the displays might go out or something like this
I left my defy 2 days on the back but it didnt help! The freezer method did but remember to do it only without Battery Sim and MicroSD card
A photo of your problem wouldnt be bad!(if you have uploaded one i cant see it)
Hello people I need the experience/knowledge of a comunications/respective engineer (because I haven't started my comunications course yet.... Will be in about 1 week ) .... As I can see the phone ne signal contacts are on the sim/mmc cover... So basicaly for most of the people the contacts must have worn out of like this (yhe black line you can see on the contacts plastic has been exposed )

So basicaly my question is that can I apply some solder in that area to make allow the pins to make proper contact... without this modification making my chances of exposure to rf radiation increase by hell of a lot increasing health risk (also without deteorating quality of reception further) and possibly could I increase the side of this antenna by attaching small copper strips on both the copper contact thank you.. If I get a green signal from anyone.. I will mod my antenna and make a how to

i think you wont do it any better, because this surface is already optimised for power of transmitting, so actually any wires could make even worse signal...
you could try maybe soft scratching of your pins with keys or coin.
p.s.: i have the same "worn out" pins, but you should know that my sim cover was removed maybe three times since i bought it...

So then can i tinker without any radiation problems? I know that rf can max to heat my skin..but any other effects?

Yeah, don't worry about it. You'll be fine. Just turn off your device prior
The Note II rear battery cover has fragile hooks that hold it in place in addition to the usual tabs. Failure to remove/install the cover in the proper fashion can result in broken hooks and a loose/creaky cover.
My cover was creaking in the corner above the volume rocker. I didn't realize the hook was broken until I stumbled across a thread where other users were experiencing the same issue.
I drew something up to hopefully prevent others from breaking their tabs/hooks. The green arrows show the direction on how to safely remove/install the hooks.

This is from a Sprint device but I assume the design is the same on the variants.
thanks for the guide, this back cover is harder to put back than note 1 and s3
Good to know, thanks! :good:
Yeah I was victim of creaky cover because I removed it really hard first day I got it. Anyone know where I can get a replacement cover?

What's the black bit on the inside of your cover? Looks like a place-holder for a wireless charging module.

Yeah, I looked at my S3 cover and the tabs looked reinforced. The hooks on the N2 are weeeeak. I only had my phone for a couple of days until I noticed that the hooks broke.

Try your local Sprint store that services phones. They usually have extra parts laying around but the N2 is still new so they might not have them yet. I'm still looking for a replacement cover.

That black plate is for my iMagnet car mount (thread). Highly recommended! I know a magnetic mount sounds crazy but I'll let the 5-star reviews speak for themselves.
i have no broken or bent tabs and it's still lose by the volume button. such a simple flaw on such a great phone. this stinks!
I noticed that the pictures don't show the wireless charging pins, which should look similar to the NFC pins but it's next to the battery
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
The pics were taken from a Sprint variant where the housing covers the wireless charging pins. They're there underneath.
thanks

Have you tried putting your defy in a airtight moisture proof container and then stowing it in the freezer for a few hours? Worked for some people, but be careful, make sure moisture and air do not enter the container.

I had the exact same thing after dropping my phone TWICE. I put it in a ziplock bag, without the battery, sim card, nor sdcard, and then in the freezer. In total it took about 7 days for the blue spots to clear, but I took it out every 24 hours to check on its progress. I just took it out and let it dry off for about 10 minutes, then put the battery in and turned it ont to check how much was clearing.
If that doesn't work, replace the LCD.

I did put it in freezer, twice. both times the sizes reduced a bit, but not enough. I guess I need an industrial freezer, like the one they have in ice cream stores.
