Question about buying a used nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently on a lumia 900 and i really think its a S***hole phone. I was about to buy a nexus 4 from my friend, but we can't decide on the price. The only flaws on the phone is just wear and tear, no dings/dents. Only minor scratches on the rim. Can someone help give me a price quote for a 16gb Nexus 4 with this description.

The fairest way to value an item is to look on ebay for completed auctions. This is a fair way for both of you to come to a price. Make sure when you look through the completed auctions you try to find similar wear& tear listings. Best if you take a handful of these auctions and average those prices out.

Buy from Swappa.

Depends on what sort of mate he is, if I was selling mine to a friend I think $ 100 is reasonable. You might be lucky and get $100 to $ 200 for your Lumia on eBay and do a straight swap in a round about way.

You might also want to check how old is the device. Since the battery is not replaceable (there are ways though), teh capacity to hold charge degrades over a period of time. Just saying to consider these factors to decide on a price.

In that case, do consider such costs in valuating the n4

Do you recommend the N4 now?

Hi,
due to the recent price drop I really think about buying one.
My GF needs a new phone and I want to give her one this christmas. But she may get an "old" IPhone 4 from her parents.
So I thought maybe I buy the N4 now and use it myself till then. If she gets the IPhone 4 then I'll just keep it myself.
I wonder if that is a good idea. I'm still on NexusOne to the day and actually would not need a new phone unless it breaks down.
I mean if there will actually be a cheaper IPhone version, that would probably strengthen competition and we might see cheaper Android phones that don't suck.
If Google just sells out its N4 stock I and I'm not buying now I might miss a great chance for a cheap but great phone, right?
Would you buy now in this case?
What are the problems of the N4? I mean besides the unchangeable batterie and non-extendable memory?

Mate, you missed the party Just wait for the N5. Allthough if you want a good phone for a very very low price this is the one to buy.
At $250 for 16gb? Yeah, jump on it. If it comes to it you can always resell it for $150-175 when N5 comes out.
You won't get the thrill if you get it now. Rather wait for the new one.

Thanks, to be clear: this is not for people who want the top notch phone and pay dozens of dollars for it. I opened this thread for people that want to get a good phone at a reasonable price. And due to the recent events might consider the N4 now
If you dont want to wait for a possible nexus 5/2013 nexus 4 then yes I would recommend getting it. This phone is amazing and even more so now with the price cut. You're getting a good phone spec wise off contract for the price of any other on contract priced phone. IMO that's a great deal. I've had mine for about five months now and still love it. One of the best phones I've ever used.
The price cut make it really attractive, even if it is a bit old in today's standard.
Seriously, it is an unbeatable price/performance device at the moment.
Since we don't know exactly when the next Nexus will be announced and we also don't know what will be it's pricing, the Nexus 4 is very tempting. This device is so stable, reliable and Smooth.
The only part that is not very good is the camera, it's ok when you know how to use it properly, but it could be better. But, why would I complain for a device that is sold at 199$ when all others are sold at 500$+
YES !
sent from the state where marijuana is NOT illegal !!
Depends on how much after tax, I would just wait for next one at this point.

Nexus 4 has no value anymore

Hey. So im trying to sell my nexus 4 to get a nexus 5. The highest offer i have gotten is about a hundred bucks. I know the value dropped because of the N5 but i didnt think it was that bad. Anyone else experiencing this?

No. I put mine on the market to see what I could fetch. Someone offered 230 so value hasn't dropped off that much. Give it time. Also, ask this in Q&A next time.

I live in France, and I've just stick a paper which say that I sell it for 250€ on the ground floor of my building, and I've got a lot of call that day, but i've denied all, I think the nexus 5 doesn't worth it, maybe I'd buy it later, but for now ... no
Washington DC. Honestly you just have to be patient. I put it up with the idea of getting a Nexus 5, but the update just isn't worth it yet. Battery life is on par with this phone, which is my main concern.

Anyone offering you below 200 Bucks doesn't know the first thing about this phone to be honest.
Or they know exactly what it's worth but try to haggle you down in order to resell it for a profit.
Long story short, don't sell for less than 200 if you really mean it.
$100? No way. I wouldn't even sell it for $150.

This thread is a disappointment, I came here with my flame hat on just to discuss resale value.
Doesn't matter, it's still valuable for me because its still fast and function perfectly. If you buy a phone for its resale value, don't buy Nexus, get the latest iPhone instead.
I do like how the Galaxy Nexus is finally lowering in price, what a steal for $150 and install KitKat on it. I rather have affordable Nexus and it help drive down the unrealistic price for flagship devices as well.

Value? Are we talking about value or market value? I have a nexus 4 for some time now and I can assure It has economical value but, even more, an special value for me. For me was incredible to join this nexus family after selling my nexus 7 (I wasn't using it too much so I sold it).
I bought a Google phone for 299€. It had 4.2.1 when I got it, and it was the smoothest phone in the market. The design was amazing, simple, black, as google likes, with an amazing glass back case. The screen was sooo big compared with my xperia arc s (which was also big) and we could think it was going to have a worse resolution, but that xxxxxxhdpi 768 x 1280 pixel IPS LCD screen got me when it booted for the first time. A good 8mpx camera, a worse internal one, but not everything was going to be perfect. Anyway I made some amazing pics and good 1080p HD videos. An very powerful quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz combined with 2GB RAM did the rest. The adreno 320 graphic processor did the rest of the job when playing whatever games, and I was still noticing zero lag. When I learnt how to use it, the battery was good enough for me, and now even more with kit kat. I got latest features in a moment when NFC was just a concept, and just for 299€...
don't u think this is valuable?
Even if u compare it with the best phones out there, the nexus 4, after some time, is still amazing, gets latest updates and.... yes, it's in my opinion the most economical phone in the market.
This phone is valuable, and has an incredible value for me, because made me jump into another android level.
The real problem is Google kinda screwed us by selling the phone for 199/249 for like 3 days because people say, oh I could've bought a new one for 199.

To be honest I'm not interested in getting the nexus5. It wasn't improved enough for me to switch yet.

i was thinking of selling and buying n5 too but i thought then i would be paying 200 on top of what i got for a phone that does nothing better than my current one
dont get me wrong n5 is incredible but if u already have the awesome n4 it doesnt make much sense to buy a new phone except to get the "latest"
Trolololed from my iPhone 5S
The N4 is so cheap to buy brand new that it is essentially disposable. I wouldn't go through the hassle of selling it just for $150-200, even if I get a new phone. I would just keep it as a backup and/or learn more about Android modding/development.
Selling a phone with our phone's specs for 200$ should be ilegal.
My brother got a new nexus 5 and I can assure you it is not worth it. It is better? Yes, of course, nobody is going to doubt that, so, if you have money and you like mobile phones yes, buy it, it is a great phone. If you, like me, aren't rich and have a nexus 4 please DON'T sell it for less than... 400$ (which is impossible) which should be it's real value. Trust me... our 4.4 binaries will arrive, and if you have the possibility to have a n4 and a n5 in both hands you will see that isn't worth it...

just ask yourself:
what looks better in terms of cosmetic to you?
is the performance upgrade really needed for you?
is 16gb enough?
for me: i choosed n4 because n5 is ugly(for me),the 800 soc is not needed as i dont play too much games(actualy i dont play any high intensive game) and 16gb is enough.and i saved 350 bucks.
if your certain the digitizer is broken and nothing else and you can get the screen really cheap, 1/3rd of a new n4 then do it, otherwise buy the n5 if your in doubt, you dont want to be spending money on a old phone as you wont get that money back, personally i would sell the n4 and get the n5 since the nexus range is ment to be affordable, if you can handle ios for 2 months, plus kitkat should be improved by then

yeah its just my digitizer thats broken. i haven't really priced them but i was looking at a unit that costed $170 for a new battery, lcd, and digitizer. i figure if i make the switch to the nexus 5 from the iphone. ill make a $41 down payment + $17 (102+41=143) a month for as long as i keep it, which i dont plan on doing for more than 6 months cause android phones get outdated in the blink of an eye. ill also get the benefit of getting the sd800, but i don't really game that much... i know lte was spotty with my n4 eariler in the year and i dont think i can go back to hspa+ speeds after being on lte with iphone. so i think i am just going to wait it out. :good:

They are both good choices. If I was going to get one coming from an iphone, I'd probably go with the N5. I have a N4, and it doesn't seem like a step up enough to drop the money for the upgrade.

Personally, I'm leaning toward yes on this question given the history of the Galaxy Nexus. However, I wanted to get the thoughts of others here on the forums. I really want to wait, but I'm finding it hard.

Well the gnex started at $649 and eventually went to $399 on the play store. The n4 and the n5 started even lower than that at $299 and $349 respectively. There is a big difference. I'm not saying you are wrong, just trying to get us to consider all the facts.

Nope, the same treatment will be needed for all previous Nexus, which Google ACTUALLY does, but not carrier-oriented procedure.
But taking in mind that the Nexus 5 will be the first on be more than a full year on the market, the drop of price will definitely go for it first than anything.
I doubt it will have price drops this year, i have been in contact with a supplier and he says its a premium price with those specs, motorola has been strict with specific details till november.

Thats why google is charging and arm and a leg for it? lol YOu mean to tell me they would have sold it at this price with they had just came out with the same similar spec as N5?
Google will NOT make it cheaper. Third party sellers is another thing
If specs are nothing in the android world, you my dear friend need to go get an iphone. Thats why people are crying because Note 4 nor S5 is 4gb of ram. Thats why people are crying cause G3 is 801 not 805. Thats why people are crying cause the huge Note 4 is not BIGGER or the z3 is not BIGGER.
Just because specs to you are nothing, does not mean how the rest of the android users feel
The op wait 6 months, he will find it else were cheaper, even on swapper cheaper...but he sure as well wont get it from google cheaper
Wait a couple of months. A lot of people with will use their $200 upgrade and flip the phone on EBay for $500 to $550. You can find a brand new LG G3 for $400 on EBay and that phone hasn't been out that long.

The fact that it has high end specs mean nothing when it comes to phone holding value over time. Google will never drop the price via the playstore but as the previous guy said, many users who will get it via contract subsidy for $200, will sell it for $550 new on ebay.

Wont that result in you buying a phone that is tied to someone else's contract and whatnot...?!
Ive never phone a phone from those circumstances so i would assume that to be the case and you would have to go and check to make sure its clean and ready to go. seems like a lot of time/work...but idk

There is a risk that the phone you buy is blacklisted. I normally check the person's feedback and look at their EBay rating. Most people that have a long history of selling stuff on EBay want be looking to scam you.

How much can I get for my N4?

I upgraded to the OPO near the end of October and my Nexus 4 16GB is just sitting around and not in use.
This is aimed more at UK users.
It is in excellent pristine condition (no scratches front or back as they have screen protectors) and I have included loads of accessories including cases and spare screen protectors.
I have advertised it on a local selling page for £115 and gather some interest. I am wondering if you guys think this is an acceptable price?
I have taken a peek on eBay and seen one going for £150 and the bid hasn't ended. But that is the only exception I can't find others.
Should I expect more for the phone? Or should I sell it at this price?
Cheers.

I've had a look again myself and that's what I'm seeing too. I have a buyer lined up for tomorrow for £115.
Should I just go ahead and pull the trigger? I will miss the phone had some fond memories with it, but it doesn't have much use now.

Personally, I think you'll get nostalgic and regret selling it. Use it as a test mule for ROMs for your OnePlus One, since most ROMs available for for both. And it never hurts to have a back-up phone. Or something smaller when you don't want so large a phone (is that a OnePlus One in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?).
Sell it if you need the cash, I guess, but unless you're short on January's rent, my advice is to hang on to your Nexus 4.
I've kept so many handsets, just in case, then regretted it later when they never got touched, but it's your call mate. If you have a buyer lined up, I'd got go for it.
