annoying battery on defy - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Use my defy for over 1½ years already now battery life is the biggest problem even though gps/wifi off on still drains half power in 6 hours time. Did a hard reset, reformatted SD card, turned off all of the bloatware, turned on power-saving, doesn't seem to help. Already ordered a mpj 2500mah battery to see if the battery is the culprit, or i may retire it, just annoying this.

The battery is going to die . I retired my old defy with same problem n even my currently note 2 sometime cant satisfied my heavy usage. so I carry 2 extra but most of the time it can charge in car. Don't hesitate to get a fresh as new one is inexpensive!

You have already undervolted your Defy? Using Greenify helps a lot too.
An example of my 1 year Defy+ battery duration with moderate use (Wi-Fi for WhatsApp, e-mails, apps update and internet navigation; Bluetooth phones to listen music; others functions like alarm, calculator, Google Keep):

Throw my defy in drawer with dozen of batteries:silly:

Buy a new battery, like me. that is the only solution...

Can't hold a charge!

Probably a new battery would fix this
Mine drains in about 4-5 hours after 3 years, but I keep gps and 3G enabled. Guess I'm lucky but I don;t seem to find a bigger battery around.
Anyone has a link with the battery model and maybe some EU stores?

bad battery?

I woke up 20mins ago and I uplugged my evo from the wall...said 99% battery right now it said 83% and there were no apps running or anything,no phone calls no texts, nothing, it just sat on my desk.
anything I can do to optimize battery? I am considering buying one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/2x-3500mAh-exte...Accessories&hash=item3cb822c62d#ht_4799wt_752
can I check if my 1500mah battery is good? thinking of going to sprint to have it checked out.
I searched and found a guide about plugging and unplugging the phone a few times but it did not help me.
That plugging/unplugging thing really works the best for and SBC kernel.
What setup are you running now (ROM/Kernel)?
There is a way that HTC released, it's in my signature.
Running synergy RC2 with latest radio package in the dev section.
try the radio setup I have in my sig.
Buy another battery. lol. But in the package with the external charging unit. so you can let your batteries run close to dead once in a while then just swap the battery. It'll keep those batteries in good shape. :-D Don't blame it on radios. But could be just that your signal/tower where you're at sucked for a few minutes. maybe they were working on a tower? who knows. Good signal=good battery
I bought this battery and can get 4 days off a single charge with normal usage, and 2 days with heavy usage: http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Exte..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1311442664&sr=1-2

I am going to try the uplugging charger trick again...the ac compressor on my car went bad and I'm trying to save a few bucks to get it fixed
I'm thinking of going the ebay route and getting a cheap 3500 mah battery.
damn I cant buy the 3500 >_< phone wont fit in my otterbox case, the max mah of a stock fit battery is 1800 right? Guess I'll have to settle for that
I wanted one of those, but sadly. like no one is smart enough to give us a real case to go around it. there aren't any supplies for it on cases. Plus it looses the point of the phone being at least a little light. makes it too thick.
Yeah, I tried to look for some but didn't find anything, my brother bought this phone for me on the local classifieds and the dude who sold it to him had 2 batteries for it with a wall charger...I don't use the second battery because its a pain in the ass to switch when you have an otterbox case. thats why I may get the 1800 battery, I've read around that its the same size as stock.

Turn off while charging?

I read a blog which suggested, when charging overnight, to turn the N10 off completely rather than just having it sleep. Is there any merit to this? Does it charge faster?

It does charge faster because the device isn't doing anything to drain the battery. Although overnight is often when devices update themselves so it's up to you if it is necessary as it should fully charge overnight.
I dont see a reason to turn off the tablet to charge, and my tablet never gets turned off. Because there was a user here saying we needed to turn off our tablets any time we werent going to use it within the next hour or two, I did some battery tests. This tablet (assuming you aren't running battery draining apps in the background) loses 1% of battery every 7~ days when idle. So thinking the tablet will somehow charge faster while it is off would be false as we really have negligible drain during idle time. That is unless you are syncing a large number of apps and have a ton of things updating in the background.
Currently my tablet has been on and hasnt charged in 16 and a half days. I have been really busy at work during the week and busy with my friends on the weekends, so I have really only used my tablet about an hour and a half during this charge cycle. So have so far lost only 2% battery from idle, and another 19% from the hour to hour and a half from the time I was playing a video game on the tablet. Assuming I dont use the tablet, I truly expect to be able to pick it up in another 2 weeks from now if I wanted and still be in the 70% range on battery life remaining.

And if you do have a lot of stuff syncing in the background, you still wouldn't want to turn the tablet off while charging since then the things you want to sync will need to sync when you're running off battery instead.
Yup, I agree with the posts above. The only way you could really slow down charging significantly would be with daydream running. This display sure drains lots of energy.
I do both, sometimes powered down other times in sleep mode. Don't see a whole lot of difference.
Here are some screenshots of just how long the battery lasts while idle:

Horrible battery plz help me

hey guys could anyone help me with this horrible battery life???
I tried clearing the cache from stock recovery but it did not help me
I have updated to 2.1 and I can say that battery life was equally worse in 2.0.2 and 2.1

I wish I could say I have a solution but I have almost the same problem. With my opt, Google play services also is in on the battery drain. Would really like to have some tips. I've seen cases where one of these processes drains the battery, but not 2 or 3.
Very similar to my battery life. 2 hours screen on time, 12 hours off the charger, at 20%.
Do you have fingerprint scanner or tap to wake, and carry your phone in your pants pocket? If so, you may want to try having the screen facing away from you at all times to avoid accidental wakelocks.

Not OP, but personally I doubt it's that. I have charged my phone to 100%, then left it unplugged for 8 hours overnight for testing, and it will usually be at 80% the next morning. Most phones I have had won't drop below 90% overnight.
I just got my OP2 and it was at 93% when I started the initial setup process... after 44 minutes of setting up and downloading apps and the 2.1 update, it was at 52%. My Moto X Pure has "ok" battery life, but is much better in comparison... It only dropped about 20% during the initial setup, including ROOTing and doing a Nandroid.
So, I'm a little concerned about keeping the OP2 for this reason? Plus, the speaker sounds terrible.... But I've been using HTC dual front speaker phones for the past 2 1/2 years and most recently the Moto X Pure with dual front speakers. So the one speaker on the bottom is a bit of a let-down.
Guys, ok i charged my OP2 till 94% last night and left it. In the morning my battery was down to 54% and the major eatup of battery was done by MAPS. but my location was off and maps was not there in the running apps. SOT was 5 mins.
So, i am still trying to figure out as how to kill the Maps. But from morning (7 am) till now (3 pm), my batter was down only 23% and i have been constantly using my phone with SOT as 2 hrs.
Little weird but intersting.

Battery wear of your Oneplus one

It's been nearly 27 months of daily and intensive use of my oneplus one and I can't be happier, not even consider buying a new smartphone with the performance of this little one.
I was in fact considering buying a new battery, wasn't noticing any noticeable decrease in battery life but it might just be because of the slowness of the wearing and buying a new one will immediately result in much better results.
I found an app called accubattery that tests wear by measuring charging currents vs charge percentage over time and would love to see how is you battery performing, also wanted to know the results of a new battery if some of you have indeed swapped it already.
Here are some screenshots

Considering a new battery would perform about 97/98% (just guessing) that's about 5% wear every 8 months. Seems like a really slow pace if you ask me.
Would love if some of you guys test it for a couple of charges cycles and share your results vs age of your device.

You shouldn't trust these battery apps. Measure it that way - if the battery lasts long enough for you - you don't need to replace it. Otherwise get a replacement and hope that it's better than your current one.
Right now I get about 3.5-4 hours of SOT with Stylo King's profile and I charge it every night. Perhaps I'll replace the battery within a year but who knows - I might just get an external battery instead.

Sure enough, I'm still OK with the battery life. But it's interesting to know how fast batteries are wearing and how much improvement we get with a new one. This app measures how much capacity it can hold, battery life is a different story.
20% wear might not seem a lot but imagine you have an extra 20% each time your battery dies. Might consider a new one in the near future.
i am really interested to this topic too. for now, you can refer to the answer to this thread of mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/how-battery-1-2-years-t3414249
the biggest problem at the moment is that most of battery sold online as original are simply fake and works very bad, so finding a replacement it' s hard. Oneplus support asks for aroun 80€ to replace the battery

Is that not normal? lol Mine pretty much looks the same. All my apps are at the bottom of the list but iam getting great battery life
what is your SOT?
i get same system usage as you but i 5-6 sot
4-6 SOT, actually, I thought Android battery life has evolved when I bought galaxy s8. But no, it keeps sucking my battery life even when it's in my pocket.
Unfortunately this issue is present on all samsung galaxy phones i've owned recently (s6 edge, s7).
I can't understand why the battery life is so bad and inconsistent.
No matter if all day wifi or mixed (data 4g/lte & wifi)
The background usage is pretty minimal. I don't understand why people complain that "something" however small is going on with the phone when the screen is off. The system is still alive, after all. Notifications need to get through, sensors need to be active to wake the phone (fingerprint, accelerometer, etc), apps need to be kept in memory, not to mention the always on display. Is it that surprising that if battery went down 10 percent during sleep 20, 30 or even 80 of that drop is due to these things? (that's what that reading indicates after all, 9% is not from total battery capacity, but 9% out of the amount drained).
Sorry for the rude rant, but people "expect" too much of the standby times.
Can the battery be improved? Certainly. Can the power drain be improved? Of course. But never to the point where it consumes absolutely nothing at all during sleep. Except if you turn the phone off.

20 hours on battery, 30%left. OP must be trolling.
Normal
I noticed finger print loves to break deep sleep.
4-6 hours of SOT? That's pretty good though... Same with what most people are getting including me. If I drained it all the way down I could probably reach 7 hours SOT. Totally beats the 3 hours SOT I got with my Note 5.

Did your previous phone with a 3000mah battery and a bigass screen get 4-6 hours of sot? I thought so...

Did you realize that when you total up the battery usage, you won't get 100% of battery charge?
