[Q] 4.3 colour calibration on 4.2? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that in 4.3 the default colours of my screen were 100x better than in 4.2. They were so good that for the first time I didn't have to use a custom kernel for colour calibration. But it turned out most of the 4.3 ROMs out there were so buggy that I had to go back to 4.2.
At the moment I'm using Franco's kernel but the included colour tools are bad because applying more saturation also adds contrast which makes grays look way too dark. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to import the colour calibration from 4.3 kernels to 4.2? Or if there's a better tool to modify the colour calibration.

If you use TricksterMod it has an option to set 'LCD Color Presets' for some rom, although I don't think its available for stock, but you can still manually tune the colors and save it as a profile. I'm using CyanogenMod right now and it has presets for "Google, LG, and Paranoid Android".
I think you should look for a stable 4.3 rom instead.

Stock ICS brightness query

I have a tab 10.1 3G version. and i have tried both stock iCS and CM9and CM10 wen they came out. and i have observed few things.
the brightness of the screen is much more higher at the least slider level than in the CM9 or CM10. wat i mean to say is at the least brightness the stock ICS is much more brighter. any particular reason for tat?
thanks in advance.

I have tried ganbarou which is based on CM9 and also noticed this. While the lower brightness may be saving power I didn't really like the auto brightness settings, it was too dark and unreadable in many situations(basically any situation except dark room). So, my guess is Samsung limited the brightness to a reasonable values.
That's what I don't like in most custom roms, the devs are trying to squeeze the **** out of the devices, making them achieve amazing things but also making them pretty unpleasant for general use.
I'd prefer not to stress my eyes, instead of having +30mins of battery life.
cheers
The increased brightness range is better. The lower brightness is good for night time reading.

Let's calibrate stock 4.3 kernel

can some one calibrate the color values on the stock 4.3 kernel or if someone could provide a DIY guide...plzzz i would really love to use 4.3 if it wasn't for the washed out colors. oh and i don't wanna use any apps or script to do the trick...
Stock kernel doesn't support gamma/color configuration.
You must install a custom kernel and use an app to calibrate the colors.

Lol..I thought Moles created a new thread for 4.3...There was a thread with the same name for 4.2 as well
colours on 4.3 are nice imo, could never stand halfbreed super over contrast ones myself
.just saying
I was a big fan of Halfbreed..Flashed Faux kernel & jumped to Halfbreed right away..Dont know why but But surprisingly i did not like it..Stock colors are so good..Perfectly Balance & Bright as well

Display colors differents from 2 Samsung Galaxy S4 9505

Hello,
I have a problem. Compared my S4 9505 with a friend S4 9505. Both don't have the same tint, it's like my S4 display have less colors than his S4, who have more colors on the display.
My S4 have the ROM Omega version 10, based on MH1, stock kernel. Less color than his S4.
His S4 have the ROMOmega version 9, based on MGA, stock kernel. More color than my S4.
I looked his/my setup are same on the display.
It is a problem related to Software with the ROM, kernel or Hardware?
Anyone have a idea?

I thinked about the kernel issue too but both are Stock kernel and not Customkernel.
Maybe Samsung changed something between theses both stock kernel MGA and MH1 no?

Now the most interesting part, this firmware has improved colour reproduction of the display quite a bit and the text looks even sharper than before.

Ever since I flashed Franco r193 my screen brightness is F'd

I flashed franco's kernel as my first "custom" kernel, but as soon as I rebooted I noticed that it was waaay to bright, my app colours weren't as nice anymore, just over saturated basically (i'm on lowest brightness). I have no idea how to fix it and it's hurting my eyes. Any help?
cheers
Install Franco kernel updater and change the color profiles till you find something you like.
I prefer the g47 personally.

Brightness & color on stock vs CM11

Just wondering if it is only my device or others too. On my device, I have noticed that any stock rom or rom based on the 4.2.2 stock (for example Maladus rom) has a higher maximum brightness and more accurate color in comparison to any CM11 rom or rom based off the AOSP (including AOKP).
I have flashed multiple roms and all the roms based upon AOSP have the same effect; a warmer, less accurate color and a less maximum brightness whereas the stock rom or roms based upon the stock seem to be much brighter at say 80 or 90% brightness. In my case it feels as if the contrast or gamma has been bumped to a much higher value. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Don't know about brightness, but color accuracy seems to be the same on both AOSP and stock.
It is somewhat warm but not too much, it really annoyed me at the beginning but I learned to live with it, it is not that bad
