[GUIDE] XPOSED Framework to Tweak Your ROM - Android Software Development

FIRST OF ALL IAM NOT A DEV JUST SHARING THE INFO THAT I HAVE ACCURED BY READING
AND PLEASE IGNORE THIS IF IT HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY POSTED
SO WITH NO MORE BLAH BLAH BLAH LETS START
:angel::angel:
WHATS XPOSED FRAMEWORK ?
The Xposed Framework may just be a tool for Android geeks to tweak their phones, but it’s a faster, easier, and less invasive tool than a custom ROM is. This could also be used to install themes and perform other invasive customizations that would normally require a custom ROM. The Xposed Framework’s method doesn’t involve changing your device’s operating system and can be easily reversed.
XPOSED FRAMEWORK is orginally developed by over xda member rovo89 a BIG thanks to him :laugh:
It offers an easy way to customize the Android system without having to make any profound changes to apps or the source code.
hence its very user friendly and more over its in APK format,,easy to install

HOW DOES IT WORK
To perform various low-level tweaks, developers have to modify system APK (app package) files. They generally release these changes as a custom ROM, which users have to flash onto their device.
The Xposed Framework requires root access to install, but should be able to work without root afterwards. It extends the /system/bin/app_process executable to load a specific JAR file on startup. This file’s classes will be part of every app process on the system — even system service processes. It’s then possible to modify an app’s behavior at runtime — no ROM flashing or modifying app APK files required.
It works with most Android 4.0 and later devices, assuming they’re ARM devices. If you have a Gingerbread device or one of the rare Android devices using an Intel chip, it won’t work for you.

Xposed Framework Tweaks
PART 2
XPOSED FRAMEWORK TWEAKS
The Xposed Framework is just a base that allows other tweaking apps to do the work. Once you have the Xposed Framework installed, you’ll need to use another app to actually perform tweaks. There are a variety of tweaks that depend on the Xposed Framework, but we’ll cover a few popular ones here.
Tweakbox is a collection of no-flashing tweaks from the creator of the Xposed Framework. As with the Xposed Framework, you’ll need to download it from here View attachment XposedTweakbox_1.4.0.apk
After installing a module, enable it in the Xposed Installer app.
Open the Tweakbox app after restarting your phone or tablet and choose the tweaks you want to make. You can enable a variety of tweaks — for example, you can change the level where you’ll receive a critical battery warning, prevent the screen from turning on when you unplug your phone, control what happens when you long-press the home button, and enable skipping songs by pressing the volume keys when your phone is off. These are the sort of tweaks you’d normally have to flash a custom ROM for. You’ll have to restart for most changes to take effect.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
The MoDaCo Toolkit is another package of tweaks, which must also be downloaded from outside here is the linkhttp://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.php?file=com.modaco.toolkit.apk . After installing it, enable it in the Xposed Installer app as above.
To use, simply download and install, enable the module in 'Xposed settings' and then enable the mods you want in the 'MoDaCo Toolkit' application. Note that most modifications will require a reboot to take effect and not all modifications will work on all devices!
The toolkit allows you to perform a variety of other tweaks, from enabling multi-user support on phones like the Nexus 4 (normally available only on tablets), disabling region-checks so you can install apps like Wallet and Sound Search outside the USA, hiding the battery meter if you’re using a third-party battery status icon, and more.

My Favorite Modules
PART 3
MORE MODULES FOR TRYING
iam not gonna give the links to these modules ,Please do a google search and find them
There are more modules than shown here ,so that you can understand them better
XPrivacy
With XPrivacy you can comfortably manage the rights of apps. For example, if you want to limit the privileges that your Facebook app has and deny it access to your contact list, you can easily do that from within XPrivacy. One small thing to note though, changing privileges all willy nilly without knowing what you’re doing can cause them to start acting funny.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Tinted Status Bar
Inspired by the latest version of iOS this module allows you to select the colors of the status bar and status bar icons based on what kind of app or website you’ve got open. How it figures out what color to use is a little less glorifying and isn’t done automatically: it uses an internal database that is maintained by the developer and the community.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
XBlast Tools
With XBlast Tools, you get a powerful toolbox that allows you to make changes to different setting in your system. All options are divided into several categories for clarity. Whether changing the status bar animations, Quick Settings, colors, fonts, modifications to the hardware buttons or anything else, XBlast Tools most likely can do it. After you have changed all the settings according to your desires, you have to perform a soft reboot before they are applied.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
DitheredHoloBackGround
Granted, the changes offered by this module are pretty minimal however if you use any themes on your Android device, it may be of a little interest to you. The background in the Android settings usually has a dark color gradient that is hard to read. DitheredHoloBackground takes the background image and replaces it with a neat film grain effect. As I said before, the effect is very minimal, but it is a welcome change for some people who like attention to detail.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
App Settings
App Settings are a very powerful set of tools which can change a bunch of options on your device, including the language of specific apps, pixel density, enable full screen mode, change your resolution, and more. I use App Settings, for example, change the default language on the IMDB app so that I can check out some movie information in their native languages and the app itself doesn’t offer that type of setting.

PART 4
UNINSTALLING XPOSED FRAMEWORK
You can return to the Xposed Installer app to uninstall the Xposed Framework later, reversing the changes to the app_process executable. Be sure to perform an uninstall in the Xposed Installer app before removing the Xposed Installer app from your device.

[APP] BuildProp Editor/Viewer - community project [1.33] - for android [1.6 - 4.0.3]

XDA-community!
NEWS: The app is open source: https://github.com/daOwl/build.prop-editor
I want to share my latest application with you: BuildProp Editor
root and busybox required
What is this tool used for?
This tool allows you to modify your build.prop file easily on your device. It makes editing easy and you don't have to take care about remounting stuff or read/write permissions. It also features descriptions which contain information about the property. A great tool for both: beginners and advanced users. It can be used to test a variety of properties on your device or even tweak it, but be warned: You've to know what you're doing! If the phone doesn't boot after a reboot, the initial backup of your device can be found at: /data/data/de.bwulfert.buildpropedit/build.prop
Why do you call it a community project?
Because I need your help. I want to create a documentation which contains every property and every meaning used by the android ecosystem. This is also my first real android project so instead of yelling the hell out of me, post some constructive feedback .
Descriptors / the motivation for developing this app / little details
I've created this application because, obviously, I want to edit my build.prop file in a easy, non adb push / maybe remount, way. So I've decided to create this application which does these steps for you (remounting, backup your file, etc.) - you just have to download & install it, getting prompt to create a backup of your current build.prop file (it's just button clicking, nothing else) and you are good to go son! Hint: You actually have to create an initial backup otherwise the application closes it self. I'll add a neat "view" or "read" mode later but for the security of all our phones I think its the best deal for now.
After working on it for a while I noticed the big range of properties a build.prop file could contain - and which my knowledge doesn't. So I decided to create these descriptors which consists of:
description - meaning of the property, what is it used for
recommended values - alpha numerical values - e.g.: 0,1 or 180, 190, 200, 210 or dd-mm-yyyy, mm-dd-yyyy
keyboard layouts - textual values - e.g.: NumBlock, CharacterInput or FileDialog (the FileDialog isn't implementet yet)
An example of an existing descriptor:
Code:
<PropertyDescription>
<KeyName>ro.com.android.dataroaming</KeyName>
<Description>Enables data-roaming by default in the build.</Description>
<KeyboardLayout>CharacterInput</KeyboardLayout>
<Values>
<Default>true</Default>
<Value>false</Value>
<Value>true</Value>
</Values>
</PropertyDescription>
Of course I'm not able to describe all the properties by myself so I've spend some time searching on the net and came up with an amount of 24 descriptions. This isn't that much but a good start. Thats the point where I need help from anybody who's interested: If you want to contribute to this little project, you can contact me and sending me your descriptors (which are just plain-text xml files) - I'll merge them into the project. You can also help by translate this application into your language (english is still welcome, I am german) or donate a small amount.

TODO
This project isn't finished in detail. Everything should work exquisit and fine but this are the steps I'm still thinking about:
Batchmode - adding little text snippets which consists of properties to your build.prop file. (Great for lazy people like me)
A (web) application to make it easier to contribute descriptions
Preferences - I got a lot of feedback for these, I'll add these in the next update

True, joeykrim does have a section in his app with "common tweaks" as seen in attatched screen shot. I do love your idea with the description though, makes up for a lot of questions that could arise with such app.

Update
Hey xda!
Today I've released the new version of my tool. The update contains a complete UI redesign in a lite/silver grey style. I've also worked on the ShellCommunication to increase the compatibility with other roms (works well on cm7 and MIUI).
Nevertheless I've uploaded my descriptionbundle. If you want to add a description you can take a look into the file. You can also look at the scheme.

Hello XDA,
another great Update of my build.prop editor. Thats the biggest update for now and I think, that this app isn't in beta anymore.
Version 1.2
Added viewmode (for unrooted phones)
Added HC and ICS compatibility
Added an introduction
Increased usability
Fixed some typos

My next step will be a batchmode. You can create a single text file which includes properties. These files can be integrated into the build.prop file. This allows to share stacks of properties for example helping somebody with a problematic build.prop. This also allows to share sets of tweaks for users, without to overwrite their own file. It should be selectable which property is going to be overwritten and which not.

Thank you sir! I've still got a bit to do but it's pretty functional and tested for now.
I also want everybody on the board here to ask if someone wants to create a proper icon for this app? I'm not really great on this (simple icons are okay but proper stuff is not my job). So, if somebody is interested, please contact me. The one who'll design an pretty icon for me gets marked in the credits
This tool looks awesome. Can't wait to see it get developed more.

TW launcher stock is not modified to work under dpi of less than 213 I guess. So it will not work. You need to used a nodded TW launcher or any other launcher from the play store like apex or nova
I have no problem with launcher....n I'm even not using TW launcher.....its SystemUI itself which force closes.
I also tried to set SystemUI DPI to 213 and applied TabletUI trigger in modules but it still FCs.

If you mean you want to change the image of notification pull-down from black to a custom one, then yes it's very easy through Xposed modules.
Through this module - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342570
I believe this comes pre-installed in GENNXT, along with the Xposed Framework.
All you have to do is,
1. enable (or install if you removed it) the Xposed Framework.
2. reboot
3. install and enable the module
4. change the image
5. reboot or restart SystemUI

Actually, I would like change the whole view. Not the background. Something like switching the current touchwiz pulldown to something like that of cyanogenmod pull down for example. I hate the toggles in the pull down. And of course, something new is always better. Please do not suggest that flash cyanogenmod because I would like to have the dual sim feature.

Why would I suggest you flash a different ROM when you are specifically asking for themeing/modding the stock TW?
I get the toggles on stock look bad and dated, when I was on stock, I was using a combination of Xposed modules to completely change the notification pulldown view.
Basically everything can be themed there,
XBattery Themer - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516074
Has a wide wariety of battery themes, but this one is for battery only
XBackground - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342570
For notifcation and settings (includes install screen background) background
XQuick Settings Toggles Themer - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363938
This is the main one you need. This is specifically for themeing the notification toggles like Wi-Fi, Data icons etc.
My personal favorite is the Vicino (check spelling) theme, it has a faded white toggle that turns blue on active
Sample theme -
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
Lastly, you can use Wanam to hide things like "No Notification" as well as to theme the notifications, toggles and notification pulldown in any color, gloss or gradient you want. You can even change the font and style of Date and clock and their positions.
Wanam - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484
Similar features are also available in XBlast but Wanam is TW specific so it work more efficiently.
XBlast - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294419
All these toggles have been personally tested and confirmed working by me on 4.2.2 stock TouchWiz
Some of these modules might already be available in GENNXT but since there has been no recent release of the ROM, I would recommend you remove them as system applications and re-install them as apks for the current themes that might be available in them.
All of these with more modules are listed on this page I gave you before - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541
Check post #2 for full list of Touchwiz modules.

XBattery Themer - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516074
Has a wide wariety of battery themes, but this one is for battery only
XBackground - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342570
For notifcation and settings (includes install screen background) background
XQuick Settings Toggles Themer - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363938
This is the main one you need. This is specifically for themeing the notification toggles like Wi-Fi, Data icons etc.
My personal favorite is the Vicino (check spelling) theme, it has a faded white toggle that turns blue on active
Sample theme - View attachment 2531866

That's great really. :good: But can I also ask you this? How do I completely remove the quick toggles in the notification pulldown? Sorry if it is a dumb question.

No I haven't come across any mod to completely remove them from notification toggle.
You can only theme them, you can change how many notifications you want (3, 5, 6) but I don't think you can remove them.
Wanam lets you hide the text and on/off notification line under them, but that's about it
I haven't used stock TW for over 2 months now, so maybe Wanam might have added the option, but as far as I know there is no module to remove them completely from the notification panel
@iceyhotguy.............man.u r really great............

[MOD] MoreFlymeNotifications | Expanded notifications in Flyme OS

MoreFlymeNotifications
Hello to everybody!
You probably know that in Flyme OS, most of non-chinesse notifications appear with a generic notification icon.
So I have discovered a way to have the notifications separated! Instead of having all of them grouped together in that icon that you dont know what notification are you receiving.
Here you have some examples:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, What does this mod?
This is a SystemUI modification in with I have modified some smali files and I have added the icons inside the apk in order to be Flyme able to recognize the app and put the original notification icons.
But this method have a bad thing.. all the notification icons have to be added by hand, and also the activities of the apps. So because this is a HUGE work for me to find out all the icons of every app, I ask you for help to submit the icons of the apps that you use and you want to get notified. In this way, the mod will be more complete and I will finish sooner :good:
(This is explained in post 2º)
Thanks!
What devices are supported?
Currently this mod is only available for Meizu MX4, but I will adapt it to the Meizu M1 Note and Meizu MX4 Pro in a very short time.
Maybe I will adapt also to the Meizu MX3 if some people request it.
Stay tuned!
How can I install this Mod?
You can install it as a normal system app in system/priv-app replacing the old SystemUI.apk with the correct permisions (0644), erase SystemUI.odex and reboot.
In case you are in Lollipop, you have to put the SystemUI.apk inside the folder called "SystemUI" replacing the previous apk and with 0644 permisions
Also I have created an installer
To install this mod wih my installer you need this:
-BusyBox
-Terminal Emulator
-My mod (SystemUI.apk) and the installer located in the internal memory.
After you have BusyBox and the terminal emulator downloaded and installed, you have to open the Terminal and write down this and press enter:
Code:
su
A window will appear requesting for root access, select allow.
Now, write this and hit enter:
Code:
sh /sdcard/NotificationsInstaller
My installer will be executed and you will see all the secuences of the installation

How can I colaborate adding my own notification icons?
If you want to add more apps to this mod, you have to extract the notification icon from the apps.
All the user apps are located in /data/app
You have to copy and paste the apk to the internal memory to be able to pass the apk to the computer.
Once you have the apk located in the pc, you have to rigth click and select "open as..". Select open with WinRar or similar
Now you are inside the apk. Just drag the folde called "res" outside tha apk.
Inside the res folder, the folders called "drawable-xxhdpi" and "drawable-xhdpi" is where the notification icon is.
The icon is usually called "notification_icon.png"or something like that. It usually has a size less than 100x100px
This is the icon I am requesting for, you can upload it in the excell tab (see the end of the post)
Also It would be nice if you write me the Main Activity of the apps.
This is very simple, you only have to have xShorcut app installed in your phone.
In side this app, go to App Shorcut, find the app and copy in the excell tab the text below "Component Package"
The excell tab is here
Thanks for supporting this mod

Added support for the Meizu M1 Note! It is avaliable for download.
I will edit the post later
Are you planning on supporting the Lollipop beta's or when its released officially ?
Also a kakotalk icon would be amazing.

Yes, everything seems to be working well except for xposed. Can't get it to install.
Hi, sorry for bad English, I write through Google translator
I want to ask you, if you can write the instructions, or just write in any files you are prescribed changes. I just think those icons that I use is not much need rest, as you do not have to collect all the icons, everyone will be able to collect them for yourself.
thanks for the mod, everything works:good:
p.s. I tried to decompile your systemui, which would then be compared with the unmodified systemui and to understand the changes. but I could not.

Sorry I havent read your comment until now :crying:
Thanks!
So do you want to know how to do this mod by yourself? Of course, I will tell you but it very easy to get a bad compilation
I think the best thing is to have all icons colleted in one, like I am doing, because few people will know how to put the icons in the systemUI and modify it, so very few people will use it. Also icons only are a few bytes large, you wont notice the difference.
So, this is what I do:
After decompiling SystemUI.apk, you have to go to systemui/res/drawablexxhdpi or drawablexxxhdpi if you have a M1 Note and put here the icons
Next, go to /systemui/res/values/public.xml, open it and erase some lines that refers to icons of chinese apps that are not used outside china. Put the name of the icon replacing it and write the id's in a notepaper or somewere to remember it.
Now go to /systemui/smali/com/android(systemui/statusbar/phone/MeizuCustomizedIcons$1 and locate the loops where the previous id's are. You have to find the id's you have stored, change the main activity of the chinese app and put the activity of the app you want to put related to the icon.
Just this, it is easy to make errors.
I dont know if it is well explained, my english is also bad
thank you for a good and clear instructions

Couldn't agree more. The need to use dark wallpapers just to get rid of the white was driving me nuts, plus it is very inconsistent in how it reads "dark" vs. "light".
The theme I'm using "flux" still has a few quirks when it comes to the android system theming, but overall no major issues!
I'm using flux but can't get the systemui to theme...is this the quirk you were talking about?

A lot of themes need to be updated to work on P.. Especially System UI part has changed a lot.
Sai's theme is updated to work with P. There are few minor parts that are not getting themes properly. That's why it's not updated on play store. But the theme is nice though.

Yeah notifications stay white, and the qs icons get coloured oddly (when toggled they are a solid colour), otherwise it seems to be working fairly well for me. Sai's theme is nice but I like a pure black theme instead of just dark, plus I like the very vivid colours of flux. I may switch though.

Search Sai's Oreo theme on play store. There is a theme support link in the description. Unfortunately I can't copy the link to the telegram channel.
I use Compound theme for System and System UI and Swift Black for theming the apps.

You're suppose to install and enable.. reboot. Enable all under theme manager. Reboot once more.
Anyone have trouble with some google apps not working after overlays are enabled for an hour or more? My play store, and Gmail fc every time after an overlay is enabled for a short time. Then in order to get it to open again(an app) I have to uninstall updates and it works. I hate temporary fixes so and advice would be great. Running july P beta, rooted magisk 16.6, and running compound substratum..

Happens with Play store and Google maps. I use Swift dark for those
On the Pixel the 999 build wouldn't work...download the 998 beta and installed and it worked. Same with this phone on Android P Beta.
Guys - Slightly off topic, but just sharing my learnings from my mistakes. I was playing mix and match on my UNrooted, Bootloader Locked Oreo 8.1 Essential when Substratum bootlooped and killed me! There was no way to recover from this (the best that I can understand), without an authenticated ADB or an unlocked bootloader to install TWRP to flash the rescue zip.
Please correct me if I am wrong, otherwise, let's please share with other users. Thanks!

Factory reset from recovery or a fastboot -w from bootloader
For those who got no overlays installed even tho overlays are built and phone rebooted, disable all magisk modules first, build overlays, reboot, enable overlays, enable modules, reboot ?
