I'm trying to change the system sounds. I'm using root explorer to manually change the sounds in the folder system/media/audio/ui. I got the lock sound, battery sound, and camera sound to change, but for some reason the unlock sound will not change. I've rebooted and I've tried setting the correct permissions.
I'm not sure if some sort of cache needs to be cleared or what.
It should just be named Unlock.ogg correct? Let me know if I'm screwing something up .
I've tried using the app Ultimate sound control pro and I still can't change the unlock sound.

Wither the phone is on silent/vibrate or not, the camera always makes the shutter sound. When recording a video, it always makes a bloop when you hit record and stop. There is no setting for disabling this like my previous phones have had.
Without using a third party camera app (I've seen people on other forums suggest Cool FX which is not free) is there a way to disable this?
Try searching around in the system for a .ogg file that could be the shutter sound and renaming it.

I use an app called "Volume Toggle(free)". I set a custom profile and use an on screen widget to adjust the profiles. Set the system volume to 0. This will also get rid of the DTMF tones, unlock clicks, and other UI sounds.

What app do you recommend for browsing the files? The built in one doesn't seem to do much good.

This works great, but it's a bummer I have to run a third party app to do it. It is nice however that there IS a third party app to do it.
Yeah. It was one thing that bothered me coming from BlackBerry. Every app was customizable with sound, volume, vibration, led, etc. It was great.

Could try SilentSnap:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/silentsnap-camera-free/com.blundell
Have heard some concerns, but it does work (After using it, double check your alarm volumes.. evidently the camera sound is DIRECTLY tied to the alarm volume... making an alternative solution to simply turn your alarm volume all the way down I believe...
HTH!
*Edit:
Looks like .ogg file is in /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
Don't know what affect it would ahve to delete it.. but you could always rename it, and then make a copy of VideoRecord.ogg (which I believe is SILENT), and rename the copy to camera_click.ogg
Should work *shrug*

What would be the best way to find that file? What app are you using to browser the phone file system?
There is actually an easier way of doing this. Here's how to have a silent camera, including the autofocus sound with no external apps or editing/renaming system files. Turn your phone to silent on the lock screen (or use the rocker to go to no sound), then go into your native alarm app and uncheck "Alarm in silent mode."
There ya go. Turn down your phones volume and you have no camera sounds. easy easy
Just remember to turn the sound back on or your alarm will not Alarm
That doesn't sound like a solution. Having to modify your sound settings everytime you want to take a picture, then again when you want an alarm to go off? I would rather someone tell me what program I can use to find the sound file and modify it.

To delete/rename the file, you'll want to use Root Explorer. This requires you be rooted, which I'm just guessing from the nature of your posts you're not (since Root Explorer is often one of the first apps someone gets when rooting).
It is rooted, I'm still figuring out what put on there as far as apps go. Looks like it's about $4.
I found a great solution. It's called SilentSnap. It disables all sound from the system when it opens it. It uses your normal camera and disables the shutter sound. Its free.

Hey,
does anybody know how I can turn off that annoying volumebeep?
Where is that sound stored?
Thank you

Look under system/media/audio, most system sounds are there.
I can't find the system media audio file!
Need a rooted device and something like root explorer.
Rename /system/media/audio/ui/TW_Volume_control.ogg to something else.
Reboot.

Got my Verizon GN3 rooted, went to the same folders as with the GN2 and changed the necessary .ogg files to .bak, which silenced the camera on the GN2. No such luck with the GN3, I'm still getting the shutter sound. I'm sure I'm missing a file somewhere, I did a search with Root Explorer for .ogg files and didn't see anything that stuck out.
Here is the path and list of the .ogg files I renamed with Root Explorer:
System/Media/Audio/UI
Auto_Focus.ogg
Auto_Focus_Error.ogg
Cam_Start.ogg
Cam_Stop.ogg
Camera_Click.ogg
Camera_Click_Short.ogg
Camera_Empty.ogg
Camera_Focus.ogg
Camera_Timer.ogg
Camera_Timer_2sec.ogg
Lens_Flare_Lock.ogg
Lens_Flare_Unlock.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_Multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
Anyone have any ideas?

It's shutter.ogg, I've deleted it and no longer have the shutter sound when taking a picture.
Of course, rooted or not, turning the volume down silences the shutter.

I just don't like having to turn the system volume down and then remembering to turn it back up afterwards.

I'll try deleting it, I don't like doing that, but I can't see any instance where I'll ever need that shutter sound. It's strange, the shutter sound is intermittent. I had rebooted the phone earlier today so I don't believe anything was 'hung' up. I'll see after it's deleted.
I've tried renaming it to .bak and moving it to the SD card and it still makes the shutter sound after rebooting.
I used an xposed module to turn it off (it just renamed it) but it didn't work. So I tried completely deleting the renamed file and it still makes the sound when I take a pic.

I deleted the Shutter.ogg file and the sound is gone when using the camera. But if I'm in Kik, the shutter sound is still there. It's not that big of a deal for me, I just thought all app's used the system sound files, especially for a system app.
you guys can try installing the app Note 2 Hidden Settings:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steinapps.note2hiddensettings&hl=en
it has a function to enable the shutter off option in the camera app.
*requires root

Just wanted to let others know...this worked. Wanam didn't work and renaming the shutter didn't work.
I haven't tried that Note 2 hidden settings thing, but have tried a couple other methods including Wanam.
I noticed today though, that I get the shutter sound when smart stabilization is on, but no sound when it is off...
Pretty weird, but maybe it will help diagnose?

I can confirm this works for my note 3. Added the option for camera sounds in camera settings menu. Opened camera then went into settings then toggled off.

Perhaps this will help some of you with Shutter sounds. it also states that the reason that deleting the ogg file isnt working is that it's included inside the Camera app now!

This thread gives several solutions.
For me what worked is to put Jrummys root browser into system using titanium backup. Then use the built in editor to modify system/csc/feature.xml. change camera sound from false to true. Done.

No problem! This is definitely the easiest way. The only remaining noises are on the arrows for the other settings on the screen. They are annoying but not nearly as annoying as the picture taking noise.

I have used this method in the past on both my S3 and S4 and it always worked. I just rooted my Note 3 and tried the same without any success. I do the following:
Navigate to system> media> audio> ui Then I proceed to change the name of the following:
Camera_click.ogg
Camera_focus.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
As I stated above, this has always worked but it's NOT working on the Note 3. I have tried it 3 times already and rebooted each time and nothing. Does anyone know if there is something different with the camera sounds on the Note compared to the S3 and S4?
Thanks.
Yes some sounds are baked into the app itself. To fully mute camera you need to use a root Explorer. Go to system / csc/ open feature. Xml then go to camera_shuttersound menu and change it to true. (it's close to the top, under camera features.)
Then go to camera and you will have a mute option in the settings.
Profit.

There is an app called Enforced Stream Silencer that will disable all of the camera sounds once it's installed.

You need to make sure the system is mounted as RW with whatever file explorer you are using.

It does show rw-rw-rw for permissions after I changed it from rw-r--r--. Not sure what is up.
This is driving me nuts. I just want to turn off the annoying camera shutter sound on my GT4 7. I've tried deleting the .ogg file and I've tried editing the xml to give me a menu option to turn it off, but nothing has worked. I've also tried other camera apps and none of them have an option to turn the sound off. Is there any way to turn the shutter sound off?
I should note that I have a rooted phone and installed the custom stock ROM from the Android Development section.
Bump. Anyone?
I havent found any. The only way ive done it is muteting the tablet.
Root browser and look for that camera_shutter.ogg (I don't think it's called like that it's just a suggestion)
