I removed the bloat file to get rid of the chrome bookmarks and tried editing the SQL for browser but it doesn't work. The same three bookmarks are always there. Can't even change them in the dBASE. Anyone have luck killing these?
I have failed at all attempts. On the N2 I used BookmarkSB but it does not work here. I would appreciate a way to delete them.
They may be baked in to the app. They seem to resist all the usual ways of changing or deleting.
Only way that worked for me was this:
(Have to be rooted)
Use a root browser to go to: data > user > 0 > com.sec.android.app.sbrowser > app_sbrowser > Default
Make a backup, then open the "Bookmarks" file in a text editor.
Change the "0" to "1" for every line that has: "editable": "0"
Then you can delete them in the browser. Might need to reboot.
append the end of the SBrowser file and the Odex file to .bu, then download AOSP browser installer from the play store and install it. This will give you back your bookmark syncing and labs as well!

I did this when I was trying to get rid of the baked in bookmarks. The AOSP browser ran slower for me, and had some weird visual glitches for some reason.
Sucks because I would have rather had all that back as well.

What kind of glitches?
The one I can remember off the top of my head, I was getting a stretched out green circle with a phone(or check mark, cant remember) to the right of all the suggested links when typing in the address bar.
That's not a big deal really. My main reason for not keeping it on there right now, is it just ran slower and seemed to lag more than the stock.

In a separate thread we're discussing air gestures missing from the n3 browser. I propose someone use the above mentioned method to load the s4 browser. I'd try it but do not have a copy available.
If they won't let us flash a rom, we'll just make one the hard way

If you're rooted, yes.
On ES I believe you have to hit the menu button, then scroll down to where you can enable "root explorer." Then just go to the top directory(hit the / at the top), and you should be able to see the folders.

Hmm i did not see that option when I tried yesterday. I got an indication that root was enabled, and will later today find the path and see if I can edit that file and restire it correctly.
Finally got to find move and edit the Bookmarks file. Replaced it and rebooted. I was able to delete the three bookmarks. Thanks.

To get Flash 10.3 working on the stock browser you need to do two things:
1) force stop the browser process
2) Remove all permissions for /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data
*Fix also works for Dolphin. Just change com.android.browser to mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser
Changing the permissions restricts the flash plugin or the stock browser or the webkit or I dunno what from reading config.data. This file is screwing with video playback of anything over 240p.
What's weird is that the config.data generated for 10.2 and 10.3 appears to be identical, except for the ProductVer string. Since the file contains settings for h264 high, baseline and main profiles, there's probably some change in 10.3 to the way it uses this information.
Either way, this is a bandaid for those that don't wish to use Opera until the heart of the issue is found/addressed.
how do you remove permissions? i saw the ability to do this was added in a while ago in the nighthlies, but I've never had to do it....

You'll need to use a file manager that supports it. I use File Expert while others prefer Root Explorer.
Btw, this is not the same as application permission control which is what you are thinking of.

using terminal emulator i can just do a cd data/data/com.android.browser and it shows the listing. but if i go to the file manager it doesnt show it. Weird.
So i was able to edit the permissions. My superuser app wasnt properly giving superuser permission to the file explorer, which is weird because during that time it worked for terminal emulator just fine...
I removed all permissions for it, but flash still isnt working.
nvm. Fixed. Left the boxes on the far right checked, for 'Exe', and unchecked all other read and write permissions boxes. Working so far.
Nice find! Works perfectly...
Was just about to do this but looks like the newest nightly will incorporate this fix.
Edit: nevermind, something different.

How exactly do you remove the permissions and how do you change the com.android.browser to the mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Having issue with fix
Hello. I've been trying to perform the fix but I'm running into an issue. I have CM 7.0.3 on a gTablet running Flash 10.3.185.23. I am using File Expert and it has been given access by super user.
The issue is that I can browse to /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/ but I do not see the config.data file in that folder. I have tried looking in the Dolphin Browser folder also but it's no there. I have even tried doing a search in the whole com.android.browser folder but it's still not finding it. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Thank you.
So I finally figured it all out and thought I would share.
I installed the "updated" version of flash 10.3 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=618977&d=1307513130
Then I followed the same instructions as in this video to enable HULU, but dropbox is not necessary if you dont want it.
http://youtu.be/1JbZnSKCfY0
I was having trouble with the directory given in the original post because I had already set up Dolphin as my default browser, so the app_plugins...extension I was looking for was in there not in com.android.browser.
So in file expert, first make sure you have given super user permissions, then hit the back arrow at the bottom menu bar "2 times", press data, press data again, scroll down to the bottom to mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser, there should be 2 files with the same name, dont choose the one with only a lib folder, it should have many folders, scroll to top and find app_plugins and press, press com.adobe.flashplayer, press .macromedia, press Flash_Player, at the bottom you should see config.data, long press the file, "operations menu opens" press file operations, then press permissions, uncheck ALL boxes.
Then go back into Dolphin Browser and give it a shot. I have been able to watch all episodes I tried on HULU and all videos on youtube in the browser, when in you tube and selecting videos to watch, make sure you choose the Dolphin choice and not m.youtube or browser, and dont switch back and forth between android and desktop mode, if you do you will revert the custom agent file back to a recognized mobile platform even if you choose desktop mode again, it needs to stay at the custom. I dont use any other browsers so I dont know if it will work for others, but I imagine the same file extensions will be associated with any browser you have set as your default and you should be able to do all the same steps. I'm currently running cm7.0.3 stable, hope this helps anybody that needs it.
it works !
in terminal just two command you need:
Code:
su
chmod 000 /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data

Must be rooted!
Need Root Browser with root permission.
Navigate to data>user>0.com.sec.android.app.sbrowser>app_sbrowser>default>bookmarks file
Make backup of the file named Bookmarks
Open the original file as a text file in Root Browser's text editor. Each line that has: "editable": "0" you will need to change the 0 into a 1
So it will look like: "editable": "1"
Save your edits and now you can go to the bookmarks in the stock browser and delete them.
haartilijk bedankt!!

Can anyone follow the instructions and then copy/paste their txt file?
I messed with it too much (deleted whole paragraphs) now I don't know what order it goes, bookmarks are gone but on my top right corner the bookmark and window buttons are flipped, I rather have the window button where it was.
Just looking for the complete text of the bookmarks file from beginning to end.

But when I try to edit with SQLite Editor, it displays an Error (Error 14)
Well... I tried other way to edit via Ubuntu without success, but I have some clues based on the thread above:
In data/data/com.android.providers.settings/database you will find settings.db
Open with SQLite Database Browser and go to "Browser Data" tab
Select "System" in table and scroll down until you find this value name: notification_panel_active_app_list
In "value" you will find all the features enabled (Wifi;Location;SilentMode...etc.)
But if you put "MobileData;" after "AirplaneMode" value, save and pull to the original place fixing permissions with root explorer, you will get a eternal Samsung logo after reboot... so

I can change the menu key to recent apps but not sure about longpress home.
Using a root File Explorer open generic.kl in system/user/keylayout with a text editor.
Go to key 139 and replace 'MENU' with 'APP_SWITCH'. Reboot and you're done.
For google now it should just be a matter of finding the appropriate key.

Thanks for getting me in the right direction here. However, when I alter the generic.kl file at all, both capacitive buttons quit working after a reboot. I tried replacing the altered file with a backup i made, rebooted, and they still don't work. The only way to restore function of the buttons is to reflash the rom. Any idea as to why? What file explorer are you using? ES explorer?
After editing and especially if you're pasting in a back up you need to make sure the files permissions are set to rw-r--r--
I personally used the text editor from Rom Tool Box Lite . Make sure there aren't any extra spaces and there should be no # in front of the key.
I just remapped and put them back to normal a few times and I'm not having any problems.
Let me know how you get on.

For me it was "/data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml" and I was able to use Root Browser to find and edit it. The file is very long and hard to navigate (i was just using root browsers editor which has no search function) but I was able to add hotspot toggle on my S5 by editing it, just like I used to with the old settings.db

I mean the setting used to be stored in a .db file, but (because samsung changed it i guess) it is now stored in a .xml file. no need to rename anything, just edit the xml.

I found that xml, I copied it on my pc, opened in browser but in that xml I couldn't find anything related to mobile data toggling, or notification toggling like this: notification_panel_default_active_app_list. Could you pls tell me how did you manage to add mobbile data toggle using this method? I'm on Sprint N920P. Thanks in advance
