[Q] Does any AOSP ROM contain the Samsung bluetooth code? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a fitbit which is only compatible with Samsung's bluetooth stack. I was wondering if carbon, aokp, cm, or pa contained their code at all, or at least something which would be compatible? Thanks.

I think you're pretty much stuck with stock tw based. But I don't have a fitbit so can't say for sure

I could have sworn that task put some Samsung bluetooth code in aokp but I could be wrong.

The only thing i know is the Google Play Edition roms have it cause its has TW integration in it.

Stock N4 ROM vs stock ASOP

Does anyone have a good link or explanation of the differences between the two?
I know one of the differences is the browser.
Thanks

The stock N4 runs stock AOSP. On google's site, AOSP is what is provided for download as it is "android open source project." However, the stock N4 runs chrome as stock brower for further integration of google's products. But if you run an stock AOSP build, it will have the stock browser. Other than that, the N4 is stock AOSP, which makes it a nexus device. Some developers, built roms that is AOSP based, meaing straight from Google, with their own tweaks.
It's not much different but it has the Nexus boot animation, a custom Nexus wallpaper, and the further integration of Google products. It might also have a cleaner build info section and better service integrations, you'd have to explore for that. Keep that stock ROM backed up man, they don't even have it available anymore.

What is the difference between Paranoid Android, Cyanogenmod and Aosp?

Hey guys, I am currently running PA but find things aren't as smooth as I would like. What is the difference between these three roms?
What are your personal preferences for each?
Oh, as well I am running the stock PA kernel for the display calibration. Does Franco kernel offer a similar calibration? I am afraid I will lose the calibration if I switch.
Thanks a ton guys!

I'll provide an answer for the Franco kernel question -> Yes and Gamma correction as well via the franco.Kernel updater application from the Play store. Also allows you to save the display color profiles as well which is always convenient.
I know you didn't say anything about this but have you taken a look at JellyBam ROM? It nicely incorporates all three ROMs into one (and among other things).

Paranoidandroid allows you to perform lots of customizations to your device like the hybrid mode it porvides in it's setting. The tablet or phablet mode. It was the pioneer that started the PIE interface. So simply said, it's made for customizations loaded with useful settings and tweaks. CM is based off stock rom.

CM is based on AOSP or Android Open Source Project. It's purely based on stock rom and that is the Team total focus point.

INFO:

AOSP is the source that makes up Android OS. The OS you see on your Nexus device is AOSP. Pure android without Touchwiz, Sense and etc. It's basically Android without it's "clothes".

That's all I know. Lol. Perhaps someone else chime in more about it.
These answers are great guys thank you. I have to inquire further about the gamma correction though. If I'm clear, to get the awesome display settings that are baked into the PA kernel I will need to buy the application and fool with settings in it?
Or do the display settings come as a pre made option in the theme?

I assume you're talking about the franco.kernel updater app. Yes you can fool around with it. There are preloaded color profiles in the app that you can choose from. You can find out of that in "color control" from the app.

your kernel has a huge influence on how smooth a rom will run. if you like PA, try flashing a different kernel or a different version of the one you are using

Fitbit sync on aosp roms?

I was just wondering if I need a touchwiz based ROM in order to sync with my fitbit. It says the gs4 is compatible but it won't sync with my aokp rom. I'm guessing because of the bluetooth differences?

It doesn't work on the Google edition 4.3 either... Weird

that is weird, dude. i'm gonna do some searching around...
EDIT: you're not alone. apparently there isnt the software support from the manufacturer for non-stock firmware yet.

It requires bluetooth 4.0 low energy which the gs4 has. Apparently the stack that Samsung uses in touchwiz works. I don't see why googles wouldn't.

Crap so you need touchwiz. So lame.

Super lame. I guess your options are using one of the Stock-based roms or maybe just use Nova launcher over stock to get the aosp look you're going for.

They just updated the app for google edition 4.3
I just got a fitbit and I love LIQUIDSMOOTH.
I will be Syncing on my PC and tablet till they get all of 4.3 figured out. Haven't been impressed with the development of Google edition ROMS.

Hey, so I found this reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1ol2g8/fyi_using_a_modified_fitbit_apk_you_can_now/
They link to this xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46041881&postcount=26
It is basically a modified fitbit apk that makes it work on more devices. If someone with a fitbit who is currently running a ROM like CM or AOKP could try it out and see if it works that would be awesome.

Google Play Edition VS Touchwiz Features

I'm thinking about flashing a Google Play Edition ROM on to my S4 i9505 but I keep wondering if I'll miss any of the Samsung features if I do. Have you made the swap and did you miss any Touchwiz features?

I tested this GE ROM on my i9505 and I was really impressed. So smooth and real Android "feeling", what I missed was
SmartStay
S Planner Widget
Samsung Camera
Amount of shortcuts for settings
I know that some parts can be fixed with e.g. xposed framework and gravity. At least this annoying "unlock SIM card" bug was there.
Nevertheless the GE ROM is the better ROM in my eyes, finally I switched to CM 10.2 nightlies for testing.
Cheers

[Q] S-View

Running a Sprint SPH-L720 Galaxy S4
Carbon Rom 1/20/14 Nightly (Kit Kat 4.4.2)
I need to get my s-view working again with my windowed cover.
It worked on my stock MF9 Rom, but the software is not there in the Carbon Rom.
I have the s-view apk's from the net (i.e. Hatroid s-view) that use the proximity sensor for the effect, but they are not the same as the stock software that uses the magnet. Is this software proprietary to Samsung or is it available to us?
Any help would be appreciated, I have been looking for awhile with no luck.
From what I know you have to use a touchwiz ROM in order to use the sview properly with the magnet.

All s features are touchwiz only features!
Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
OK, I did not know that. Im gonna have to look into that. Thanks
Any way to break apart touchwiz and get that feature working through an .apk if I'm on a custom room like Carbon? Is that available?
Sent from my SGH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Nope, it will only work with the TW framework and rom. If you want Samsung features you have to go back to Touchwiz.
Any idea why the magnet works then on other devices like my nexus 7 when running AOSP or CM roms, but not on the GS4?
Also, has anyone found an app that will just do the case turning the screen on and off without anything else? I don't want any of the other proximity stuff or notifications. I just want the screen to shut off when I close my case and turn on when I open it.
Thanks!
