Mac Address same for devices using the same rom - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using the MROM rom 10.1-20130801-encore to create classroom sets for my student. I created a backup using CWM and imaged the rest of the NOOKs. They all connect to the school network, however since the have the same mac address they keep kicking each other off. How do I reset it back to the original mac address without having to reimage? Or is there a setting to clear that will delete the false mac address? Thanks.

change wifi mac address?

Hello.
Is there a way to change the mac address of the wifi network interface of the titan?
I would like to be able to do that so I can use my titan's browser to authenticate to web portals, and then use my wifi voip phone (with the same mac address) to make calls.
Do you mean MAC address or IP address?
The MAC is a hardcoded address of the form xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, using hex. MAC addresses cannot be changed as each interface has a unique number. The MAC address can be spoofed to match another interface, this is usually an available feature on routers to spoof to the ISP that you are not sharing a connection on your home network.
The IP address can be changed and is of the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx using only numbers. The WIFI interface on the titan will be set up for DHCP, ie it requests an address from the wireless source it is connected to. This can be changed to give the IP address required if DHCP is not availabe on the network selected.
I am talking about changing/spoofing the mac address if the network wifi card.
There are a bunch of utilities out there that are able to do so on the fly for windows XP, maybe someone has one for windows mobile?
Or a registry key location that does that?

[Q] MAC Address Varies everytime reboot the device

I found that the MAC address changes everytime I reboot my HD2 WP7.
I set my wifi router with MAC address access list, so I have to get rid of the access list fuction and got a not very safe wifi enviornment.
Is there any possibility that have the same MAC Address in next HD2 WP7 verison?
Brand new forum organization, and still same old crap posted in the dev section.
Go to Q&A!!
I saw this too.
The MAC Addresses are:
00:18:41:xx:xx:xx
Is it possible to set permanent MAC address?

[SOLVED]School Wifi, Two IPs

I've been looking around the forums and google for a solution to this. From what I found, the solution that works for most people with the same problem as me ends up being chnaging the UA String to iPhone or Desktop, but that still doesnt seem to work for me.
Now my problem is that at my school, they set it up to where you have to log into a portal before you can access to the WiFi, but my phone never redirects to the portal. It used to on Windows mobile, but now running Android on NAND, it wont redirect. I've tried nearly every browser on the Android market, tried changing the UA String on all of them. And still nothing. I ended up going to the school's IT Dept, and they registered the Mac Address to my phone, but then told me that my phone was connecting to two different IPs. One being the school IP, the other an unknown IP.
I've looked in the WiFi settings and i cannot find this second IP they gave me. From the sound of it, thats my problem. Any idea on how to remove this second IP? Or if the IT dept. was wrong? If so, and other ideas on how I can connect to this portal?
PS: My phone connects to every other portal website i've gone to so far, except the schools.
hmm strange, normally your WIFI connection connects to only one network. You can find the IP address by calling *#4636#*#* then Wifi Information / Wi-fi Status. Now click Refresh and you'll see your connection info. You can even run a ping test

So looking around the forums again I ran into this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965597
Not sure if I am reading that right, but the USB Port can have an IP? If thats possible, how can I disable it or change it?
You need update your ROM to one that support unique MAC address or search WIFI MAC to set the MAC address back to your real one. Old Android library on HD2 set the MAC address by using a file so all the phone has a same MAC address by default. You didn't have two IP address. There is someone else running a Android HD2 on the network. Two devices with the same MAC is the same device to the IT Dept. Only one of the device will be routed at any one time.

This sounds like it might work. I'm currently art school an unable to change roms. I'll do this when I get home and leave an update.

No need to change rom.
Use search function 'change MAC adress' or something like that.
I'm using a SD Android and needed to change it also, was just a change in startup.txt.
Maybe it is a little different in NAND? But it should be easier to search a little bit around as to re-flash.
(Most or maybe all Android builds have this problem)
If possible, use your WM MAC adress to avoid further problems.

I ended up changing my rom, and it fixed my problem. Used Hyperdroid GBX, also gave me a chance to install CWM.
But your fix might have worked as well.
His fix will only have worked for sd builds, not NAND. currently, many kernels for nand will give you a unique mac address, but there is no way to set it like there was on sd builds

[Q] Mac Address Phiermod 5.3

I just loaded the new Phiremod 5.3 rom and now can not find the nooks MAC address anywhere. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm going to try and look in /sys/devices/virtual/net/tiwlan0/address using File Manager. I need it since my router uses MAC address filtering and I am hooking up a friends new unit to test internet wireless access.

Your MAC address really shouldn't change with a new ROM. It's supposed to be hard coded into your network card.

[Q] Mac address change on Iconia A500

Hi, please, can you tell me how to change wifi MAC address on rooted A500?
Thanks to all
Why would you need too?
i would like to know this as well, i need to change it to work with a clear ispot that only works with apple mac addresses. I know there is an ispot hack but for some reason on my ispot it does not work. So my next best option is to spoof an apple mac address.
Because I need internet connection aƄ my work And switch + DHCP server has Mac address filter here...
