What are some options for protecting the components of the camera (black textured housing, chrome boarder, lens). I know many don't really think about it, but I really don't like that this area tends to get abused (especially the chrome) since it protrudes slightly. I remove my phone on occassion so I'd like a perminent option, if possible, that will keep these areas protected without degrading picture quality.
I came across some products from that seem to take care of just the lens:

Please share any product or solution you have come across. Thanks

Hi all,
Just a quick question, as a search did not reveal the answer, but is it possible to remove the len cover on the back of the HD2? As you will all know, it is very sharp - I don't tend to use the leather cover and it is starting to wear a hole in my jeans!
Looking at it the camera sensor itself is flush with the plastics of the device, but what I do not know is if the lens cover is simply stuck over the top of this, or if it covers any extra holes in the case.
Obviously it would need an alternative cover, which I am sure I could fabricate out of something, but was wondering if anyone else had been brave enough to remove it yet before I break my phone
Cheers
Looks like I will have to get my penknife out and give it a go myself then, lol

Do you really think its a good idea?
I use my case from time to time, but it's usually in my pocket on it's own. Certainly never uncomfortable and not close to making a hole in my pocket. I was told how sharp it was in the store when the O2 girl mentioned it had scratched their white desks, but since mine arrived it's never marked anything or been an issue.
I use the Proporta Mizu Shell case and this reduces the sharpness somewhat (although I've never felt the camera was sharp enough to wear a hole in my jeans). Maybe bigger jeans would help
i thought it was just my hd2 that could be used for cutting tiles but i solved the problem by buying a silicone case which covers up the edges of the camera.
I got a noreve case with which I am very pleased - it completely covers up the sharp bit (unless you want to take a photo). Much better than a damaged HD2.
Go to the accessories forum and look at the extensive suggesions there for cases, there's one out there with your name on it.

Don't put the HD2 in your jeans, you will soon damage the screen.
Use a case, the slip case your HD2 came with is perfect. Every time you take the phone out, rest it on the case. No damaged phone and no scratched table etc.

guys i have a really bad problem with my camera...
since yesterday i have two big black flakes on my photos (and on viewport too!)
i reverted to jm8 using odin...
then i dissembled the device to see if the problem is on cameras cover but even without that glass part those flakes are still there...
does anybody have any idea?
i think i need to send it to service
this is how it looks like now:

anybody.. :S
Dust specs on the camera sensor, chances are the sensor and lens autofocus assembly are a sealed unit making it hard to clean, if they are not sealed a good blow with a rocket blower would shift them.
Other wise either send it in for service or give the phone a few sort sharp knocks on the palm of your hand along the oposite edge from where the dust apears. The sensor is mirrored so what apears bottom left is actually top right.
thank you steph that makes sense...
how can i find cameras sensor to clean it?
i don't think the dust is on the len right?
The actual dust specs will probably be about .5mm in size its possible they are on the lens but i would put money on the sensor. Aim the camera at a bright suface in macro mode such as a white computer screen with a black dot to help focus. Give the phone a few knocks and see if it shifts any, repeat process a few times. If nothing moves then either dissasemble or send it in. Remember opening the unit up could introduce more dust.
The sensor is located directly behind the lens, it is would have a Glass filter over it NEVER EVER touch it with anything if you dont know exactly what you are doing. I would imagine it is about the same size as the glass cover (probably smaller) dust will be attracted to it like a magnet, you could try a rocket blower, or canned air ( no more than 2 sprays or it will ice up.
Dont get me wrong its very easy to clean but super easy to scratch with even the best cloth.
i tried to knock on it but nothing moved
i guess im gonna try a rocket blower or something like that. honestly i don't want to send it in...
btw thank you very much for your help steph.
after looking around after reading a post of the fragility of the (supposedly) strong sapphire lens, i thought id ask if any of you have had any scratches or blemishes on your camera lens currently, and if so, what do you suspect caused it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRsXdHavdt0
It has a minor super thin one (only visible in a certain angle in the sun),that was there from when i got it.Not sure if it was from the factory or from the one that sold it to me (i asked him to test the phone before shipping it) But its NOT like the ones i see on video, its like the ones that you can see in your screen, when you using it without a screen protecor, the super thin ones.
I carry my phone in the same pocket as my loose diamonds, so that's probably the culprit. Doesn't bother me, though. I take photographs with my camera and I put my lens cover back on before I sling it back over my shoulder.
(seriously, people... It's a phone with a crappy snapper regardless of how many megapixels, gyroscopes, and rooster comb filters it has.)

no offense, but its actually (for a phone) a decent camera, with a decent set of features, that i ALWAYS have with me.
my Gnex has a scratched up lens, and as much as i like to take my SLR to work, church, mountain biking, and shopping, i typically dont. but i do have my phone with me. and if these lenses are getting damaged after a few days of heavy use and a few weeks of light use, its going to be a problem if i expect the phone to last more than a year.
is there any way you can use your nice shooter to take a picture of the current state of your lens, and are you VZW version or no? also do you REALLY carry diamonds, or do you usually have your keys in the same pocket? do you know what might have caused it?

That's my video and here is the original thread on it
Honestly, my phone lens is fine. No visible scratches or blemishes. I just don't use a phone camera for much beyond text/email attachments...like "hey, check out this fine auto in the parking lot", or, "'this' is the brand of olives you need to buy."
As far as my pockets go, my phone gets a dedicated one; no keys, or change...or diamonds.
I don't have a good camera with me at work. Just the pocket cam I keep at my desk. Regardless, here are some pics (not photographs :laugh

Screen without oleophobic protection
ME Wednesday at 20:55
I first bought a OPT, and I completely broke it. So I decided to buy another one, and immediately bought a (orzly) tempered glass screen protector, wich I applied right when I received the phone. Three days ago, I broke the screen protector, but the screen of the phone itself remained unshattered. I noticed a stain, three centimeters wide, and I can't, with all the effort and the adequate products I'm putting on it, clean it.
I've came to the conclusion that the oleophobic coating isn't present in this part of the screen (midly centered), because it keeps the traces of grease much more than the rest.
I can't take photos of it for the moment because I lack a decent camera, but in less than 10h you will have different photos to check that.
Thank you for your patience, Vincent

ME Yesterday at 10:34
Hello Carlisle,
I took the photo with an old phone, so the potato quality is present, I can take other photos with a better phone later if the current photos aren't good enough.
Ecran_Propre.jpg - is the photo where I cleaned the screen with 90% alcohol and the tissue thing for my glasses. Nothing to notice, but when I wipe, the alcohol took more time to evaporate on the stain.
Fluo_Marqueur.jpg - is where I painted on the screen with a pink fluorescent marker, and a permanent Marker (both of them showed in the Ecran_Feutres.jpg pic)
The pink fluorescent marker let "bubbles on the normal part of the screen, but let a straight trace on the "weird stain".
I scared myself for the permanent marker traces, as the pink thing, it let bubbles, and a straight trace. It scared me when I had a real difficulty to erase the part where the two markers "fusioned", because the marks wouldn't go!, 90% alcohol and patience let them go finally.
Gras.jpg - is where I simply applied olive oil. the weird stain is visible, that was hard to clean (again, potato quality, sorry for that).
Forme.jpg - Is a clearer photo, in wich I show my paint skills, because I drew the outline of the weird stain.
Ecran_Feutres.jpg - is the two markers used, plus the screen protector I bought, installed, and broke.
Thanks for your attention, Vincent.
Can't post images on xda i guess
Sam Yesterday at 21:44
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the reply and attaching the photos as well. In regards to your concern, since such damage to the Screen was caused by mis-use/ accident, it's not covered by OnePlus Limited Warranty. Please visit this link to check our Privacy and Legal page . The good thing is that we can offer a repair service for this, but you will handle the cost of the repair.
Would you like to proceed?
Looking forward for your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Sam

I think we've been misunderstood.
I'm saying that, perhaps, the phone was damaged before I used it with any kind of protection, as I have a very "regular" use of my phone. The Orzly screen protector I used did his job pretty well, so the phone screen itself wasn't damaged at all.
So what you're saying is that the tempered glass screen protector made by one of the best companies in this category just kept off the oleophobic protection? Is that possible? Or can a screen production unit can get out of your factory without being totally protected? Gorilla Glass did a bad job?
I'm not totally ok for paying for this, as i'm not 100% convinced it is me.
I will link this converstation to (email of orzly), and (email of gorilla corning), to be sure you do the maximum to sort this out.

What's your thoughts?
Got an amazing deal on what was supposed to be one of these in new open-box condition and was incredibly happy with its performance, speed, and compactness until I opened the Camera app. There is a line that seems to run across the main shooter and when you aim it at any sort of light it seems to interact with some sort of crack, scratch or something that's inside the lens and distorts the image.
I've been taking a close look and close pictures of the camera and lens but just can't find where the physical damage is (if any) and I just can't wrap my head around how such a thing would even happen to begin with. I installed all of the available software updates and then GCam but same thing as in the built-in app. Tried to wipe the lens with a water/rubbing alcohol mixture and a microfiber towel and nothing. Photos taken with the black and white camera come out as they should so I know it's not a software issue. Here's the pictures:

I took a video and that's where things get even weirder! It becomes a line that seems to follow the lens instead as you move the phone, not a static/physical line that's always there. Here's a video:

This is a real head scratcher. Have any of y'all seen or experienced anything like this?

I thought it could be something similar to that, but at this point not really sure. I took my electric duster with the two high-pressure attachments to it on the highest setting, trying to see if I could force air to go inside through the secondary microphone hole next to the cameras, the very small gap between the camera, flash and ceramic back and even the gap at the top between the ceramic and the frame and move whatever it is in there out of the way to no avail.
This issue pretty much makes the main camera unusable but I was wondering if anyone else had this happen and was able to fix it and if so how. Obviously I just got the phone so I'm not gonna take it apart until I can get access to the cameras and physically remove whatever is in there since I bought it through eBay and I can return or exchange it but based on the fact I asked the seller specifics about the condition and their answer that everything worked properly I expected it to and right after getting the phone I bought prepaid service for it that now I can't return. Sigh.

I'm not entirely convinced it is physical given the way it moves position on screen when you move the camera. If it was physical wouldn't it stay in the same position? Then I thought must be a reflection but even that doesn't make sense as it appears to move independently ie still moves when you have stopped panning the camera, which seems more like an image processing or auto focus issue maybe? Though it could still bye a hair and the apparent movement is just caused eg focus. Strange.
Does it remain even with light source coming from all different angles eg left, right, top, bottom?
Does it remain in same place on stills when you do different focal lengths eg close ups?
As a workaround maybe moving it with "electrostatic charge" will be possible if it is debris, as I've seen it done in sealed units. Though only a small chance this will work if debris on glass cover & no chance if it's in the sealed lens unit assembly it might not move (see assembly here https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/UKOASSYDwDAfbVro.large but that should have been made in a clean room so more likely debris is on window cover, I'd think). Discharge with ESD earthed wrist band or antistatic cloth ... OK most people don't have them so a damp/sweaty finger will have to do ? (which will mean it is at the same PD as you). Then rub glass lens cover with a synthetic cloth to create a charge on surface or charge a glass rod/plastic ruler and touch glass cover (edit: try alt polarity on cloth). Repeat discharge /charge cycle. Cross fingers first as this is a long shot & I'm not sure if there is a gap!!!
