I just picked two up and was wondering what the tweezers are for.
Both boxes came with a set of tweezer like devices with 4-5 long rubber pins.
Can anyone tell me what these are used for and why they're there?

Looking at it.. can't figure it out either
They're replacement spen tips. Tweezer to pull out then push new ones in.

It's Wacom's standard pen tip replacement system. Use the tweezers to pull out the pen tip. The pins are the tips.
They've been using this system since the very first Intuos..

Thanks..my note 2 didn't come with these replacement tips. Are these tips even needed? It's not like the spen is a mechanical pencil. How hard are people pressing down to need replacement tips?

If you inspect the tips closely, you will see that 4 of them have rubber tips and 2 of them have hard tips. The rubber tips I imagine could run out over time, which is why they included 4 of them.

They're needed. Over time even plastic wears, and some of them are coated with rubber, which wears down even quicker.
They also included both a rubber and plastic variant, for people to pick the one they prefer.

Yep.
I got the same kind of set with my Intuos (different size pin and they came in a case, but same principle). I haven't taken the time to check, but there is also a likely chance that each tip has a different hardness. (On the Intuos every of the replacement pins is different.)
Reminds me, I also need to to take a minute to see if my Intuos4 pen works on my Note, because that'd be nice..

I'm hoping someone might have a helpful suggestion other than "take it apart." I've been using a stylus / pen that I got off ebay. The ball point pen is hidden under a cap at the opposite end of where the stylus point is.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190199301645&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=009
It works great except that the cap came off while the stylus was inside my advantage --- and now, I can't get the stylus out. It's stuck, and there's no way to reach in and get it.
Any thoughts??
Thanks
I think you could put some glue (very little) inside the cap and then put it (the cap) into the HTC stylus hole. After a time take it out and then try to remove the glue (dissolving or smthg like that). Peter.
Thanks, I'll try that!

Just be careful not to touch the sides while sliding the pen in, or it will get very messy in there and harsh when the glue dries and come time to put a new stylus in. Thanks for the heads up because I was going to purchase a pack of 3 in 1 pens. I won't now due to the fact that it can come apart.

WOW!! IT WORKED!!!! THANKS!
Of course, do what you think is best, but I'm going to keep using it. I think the fault was mine, not the pen's.
THANKS AGAIN!
Does that stylus actually fit completley into your advantage? I have the exact same 3 pack sitting at home, ordered off ebay, and its just not capable of fitting into the slide on the advantage. Not to mention how shoddy the quality appeared to be with regards to how the 3 pieces stick together. I mean its obvious when you mix metal with plastic threads...things are gonna work loose very quickly. Anyway, I just ordered a 3 pack of 3in1 stylus from expansys that they are advertising as an exact fit, made specifically for the advantage, as well as a 3 pack of oem stylus just to make sure heh.
Anyone got any tips for getting a stylus in which the top part has snapped off of out of the magnetic stylus holder on the phone?
I bought some spare ones as I always lose them but upon using these spares I found they all suffer from the same problem, the plastic top and bottoms snap off very easily.
So now I have no stylus, but part of a stlyus stuck inside my phone.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
If you remove the battery cover you will see 2 sections where you can see the stylus. You use some long thin object and try to wedge it out.
Not on my phone there isn't.
I can see it in 1 place about half way up but the battery doesn't need to be off for that.
I can't think of anyway to get anything that is going to get any grip on it to get it out...
Take the battery cover off, you'll be able to see the stylus in its sheath. Use a bit of sticky tape to grab the stylus and slide it up and out. Hope this helps.
Put some super glue and put the stylus back.
I am very curious.

Ok, this may sound really stupid, but I've been trying to open the damn case for like 1 hour and I just can't do it. I chipped my fingernails trying to open it and I don't want to use anything else cuz I might sctratch it. I wish I had one of these plasitc opening tools..Any ideas ?
Guitar pick?
Sharpened edge of a CC or hotel key?
Plastic cuticle tool?

I think the newer models have a harder to open case than the older ones. Like I saw YT videos where people just touch it and it's off. But my case is special, lol
P.S. I just tried to open it with a bunch of things, didn't move at all. What the hell ?

Dude... It's not hard at all. You can be a little rough with it. It is just plastic clips secured to an internal aluminum frame. Put a towel down on a flat surface, put your tab face down on the towel. Then take a thin object like a CC and work your way from the bottom where the USB port is up to the top and back down the other side.

By CC you mean Credit Card ? Even that is too thick to go through the gaps. The only thing that can do that is a nail but I chipped all of them trying to open it I see that it was very easy for you. Just put your nail in it and push, I do the same but something is wrong with this case.
Sand down one edge of it.
There's not a Nexus 7 I haven't gotten into (and I count over a dozen) in less than 15 seconds using the CC or a thin guitar pick. Once you get it in (I start by the usb) just slide it along. Easy peasey.
Maybe you're being too 'gentle'?

I finally managed to open it with a plastic spoon The spoon broke though...
That's generally a fairly brittle type of styrene plastic.
Do the CC or hotel room key thing in future. Almost no risk of damaging yourself or the N7 with a sharp, broken edge.
Glad you got it open, though...
Does anyone know what the 5 little black plastic pins are for?
They seem to come with a basic metal clamp, but I've looked around and can't find a use for it?

They are replacements for the S-pen tip. You use the metal tweezer thing to pull out the pin and insert the new ones.

I couldn't figure it out myself, lol.
I think even less people know that the replacement pens are not all the same material. Some are more rubberized, while others are made of firmer plastic. So not only are they extra pen tips, but you can change them out if you want the pen motions to have more or less friction.
The only way I could tell the difference of material was by touching each tip and gently gliding my finger across it see how much friction it had. My default pen-tip was a more rubberized material with a little too much friction for my liking, so I swapped it for one of the harder ones and I love it!

That piece of information was so useful to know. Love the lesser friction tip!
I also got the note5 today and was looking at the clamp/pins and I was like " what the hell is this?" LMAO.

I got the Note 8 just now. The Singapore website doesn't even mention this bell shaped metal clamp and the set of pins as an accessory included in the box! I was completely flummoxed till I read this thread. Thank you.
OK, I just wanted to know if this was just me...
When drawing, especially when doing a long quick stroke with the pen, i will sometime get a bit of a .... squeak. Like the pen is scratching or rubbing against the screen. It doesnt happen very often, just on occasion..
I dont seem to be causing any scratches though... no damage seems to be done.
So I can only assume its the material of the SPen?
I never had this happen with my old note10.1, using the white tips that came with the pen. This pen seems to only come with th eblack tips though, with no alternative choices.
Unfortunately I had to sell my old note10.1, so I dont have the pen available to test on this screen.
Anyone else having this issue? OR maybe I should buy an alternate pen?
Any advice would be good thanks!

What I meant was I have a white note...not black...so nothing is black...pen and tips are all white...to match the device itself. But if you have black tips, im assuming your note and pen are black. What I was trying to say was that amongst those black tips, there might be two types that arent as visibly different as the white tips are,...so I was advising you to look more closely or try to feel for a difference

yeah, the white note has rubber ones that are very opaquely white and plastic ones that are slightly translucent but still white.

The Grey note comes with 6 completely indistinguishable dark-grey tips lol
But, if you push on the ends with a fingernail, you can tell that 3 of them are slightly rubbery, and 3 are solid plastic.
Though I preferred the rubbery ones on the original note, I am going to try a plastic one now. ITs a lot smoother on the screen, and you can definatly notice the lack of resistance, but it seems to be pretty good. And no squeaks haha.
I had heard rumours on the old note that the plastic tips could scratch the screen, but I'm pretty sure they were false...
This is my current set-up for drawing and painting on my note...
I use rubber tips (i'm using the aftermarket SPen with the eraser on the other end, not the SPen that came with the tablet) with a matte screen protector over my screen. The screen protector isn't for preventing scratches (although it helps) but to create the proper amount of friction i feel comfortable with. I do like the plastic tips better but from my experience they tend to get sharp edges from normal wear and tear.

I can't see how plastic could scratch the screen :/ however I do remember reading where people got something stuck on the tip of their s-pen and whilst using it they ended up scratching the screen. Main reason why I had to place a clear screen protector on mine just incase it happens and tbh the Anker screen protector is as though there's nothing there so it helps.
Sorry for bumping this old thread but I dont want to create a new one.
My Note 2014 came in without extra tips. And the one I have is plastic and got no traction. I'm wondering where I can buy a rubber tip and replacement tool.
Tnx.
Screen protector
It might not be the tip at all. It could be the screen protector or lack of one.
The note 2014 extra tips are buried in the box it Came in. If you Kept the box, go and look. They are in a tiny zip lock bag.

Tried it without protector, with a glossy and now a matte one and it got really minimal traction. A friend of mine got an spen with rubber tip and it feels better writing and drawing. At least for me.
