Does this happen to anyone else? Overheating? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Try this: Download Battery Monitor Widget and Quadrant Standard. Run Quadrant Standard 3 times in a row with the brightness at 50%. The first time I scored 19k and the temp was 100 F, the 2nd the score dropped to 16k and the temp went to 102 F, the 3rd score dropped to 14k and was at 104. Then I tried to up the brightness from the notification panel to 100% and at about 75% it gave me an error saying that I can't raise the brightness anymore because of the temperature.
Really wanna know if I have a defective device.. I'm hoping it's normal.

Here's a way you can fix this, how about don't run quadrant 3 times in a row?

I saw someone mention this on Android Central and I decided to try it. Someone was saying that when they did it though that it didn't have the same outcome yet everyone else did. I dunno. .

Why do you need to run quadrant 3 times? Are you not happy with the phones performance? If you dont like the G2 take it back. But stop molesting that poor G2.

Guys I never run quadrant standard ever lol. I just did what the person at AC did because he/she thought there's was detective. My battery hasn't been as great as the reviews say so I was wondering if heat was the problem or could be the problem.
I absolutely love this phone btw.

Monitoring phone temperature with extended battery?

So I finally bit the bullet and purchased two Galilio 2000mah batteries from ebay and currently have been quite pleased, however, I use the battery monitor widget found in the marketplace and I have found that it is not correctly displaying the temperature. It is always stuck at 77.3 F. Using stock battery I am able to get a accurate temperature.
I like to be able to get a temp reading so I can stop using the phone if it gets too hot.
Any ideas why this is happening and/or recommendation for one that will work?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
BatteryTime Lite seems to report accurate temperatures for me and my Sprint OEM Extended battery.
I use battery left widget its dead on! It just takes awhile to calibrate but it works.. check it out!

Unfortunately, neither of these programs worked for me. They did the same thing as Battery Monitor Widget. Showing a constant 77.3 F. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Yep... cheap battery is cheap! I am betting it doesn't have a temp sensor....
Setcpu works for me but I don't have one of the budget batteries

I think a good app for estimated battery would be juiceplotter. Its in the market. I use that and its pretty accurate, but sometimes its off.
If battery monitor widget doesn't work... nothing is going to. They all get the measurements from the same place.
Yeah, I thought so, just was hoping for a different answer. Oh well, life will go on. Some how.

Same here, cheap '2000mah Galilio' batteries from eBay always read 25 deg Celsius.
Kam
You're going to be okay just by feeling the phone. If it gets hot to the touch, shut it off or take it out of your pocket. It's a waste of space having battery temperatures displayed if you ask me, unless you're way overclocked or running Snap.

General Warning: Overheating!

Just a warning to all using the FreeX10/other 2.2+ performance ROMs that I experienced is the overheating of the device. This may only be me, but I'm posting this just in case.
Quick details of my X10:
Flashed to FreeX10 Beta #4 last night.
Used SetCPU to set scaling to Performance and minimum clock speed @ 998MHz.
Using the 3G (build.prop) enhancement modification.
I have a rubber casing around the phone.
Usually connected to WiFi.
My phone has been on since last night and has been charging for most of the time since then and now.
Just then, I decided to turn my phone off a couple of times. I did not notice the heat from just holding it. I was browsing here and read a thread about removing the battery, so I just did that for some reason. It wasn't until I opened the case when I could smell the smell of melted/hot plastic - it was coming from the battery. I immediately placed the open-phone and the battery in front of a cool fan, the battery and phone both started to cool down and the smell disappeared. I couldn't find any liquid/melted plastics anywhere on/in the phone, but I could definitely smell it.
Just a general friendly warning (that can't hurt). Not sure if it's documented or not, and whether this is only Froyo or below/above.
Used SetCPU to set scaling to Performance and minimum clock speed @ 998MHz.

Why using setcpu? I use the same rom and it runs like hell without setcpu. No overheating neither...

nytral is right. You set the CPU to run @998Hmz at _all time_ so it'[s only natural that the device/battery overheated.

u have managed to make a perfect guide on how to overheat the phone...
u push all the components to their max working capacity (full cpu, 'enhancement' of radio) and on top of that u keep it enclosed in a rubber casing...
bravo!!!

Sorry, Min is 245. Not 998.. :-/
And I'm pretty sure the material of the casing (rubber vs hard plastic) wouldn't matter, but would contribute to the heating. I'm sure that a lot of people would use a case of some sort to protect their device.
The only reason why I started this thread is because I was on a ROM not too long ago (a couple of nights ago), which has exactly the same settings and modifications, except, it wasn't running Froyo - it was running Eclair. And since I installed that Eclair ROM, the phone has only been turned off once (with the battery removed, about a couple of days after installing it and it being on and charging pretty much 24/7) and has been charging pretty much non stop.
The only difference is it is using Froyo instead of Eclair... Hence why I thought it'd be best to start this thread.
LOL, now this is n1 example of a person who didnt read before he flashed

lol nice overheat guide
i'm using setcpu to scale it to powersafe and max @512 Hz
and when the screen is off it's max is set to the lowest (256?)
and when i wanna play games i always set it to min 256(?) and may 998 ans performance
then my battery won't drain so fast
nice overheating guidelines
Do you guys actually see a difference with setcpu? I have used every option available and nothing ever got slower or faster for me.

Yeah I'm running 2.2.1 and my X10 is no where near hot. well, at least in temperature because its a hot-sexy phone ;P
Nice overclocking there though X10 watercooling systems now in development, expect another forum branch to open in XDA in the next coming weeks.
To my understanding the 2.6.29 doesn't support overclocking so setcpu shouldn't make a difference at all. The rubber case probably contributed to the heat retention but the heat likely is from the constant charging.

Try the JuiceDefender app and set it to turn off wifi and data when your screen is off or unless certain apps are visible, helps with battery and stops unused functions while your phone sleeps.

Phone doesnt overheat, if you use it right.
Useless topic!!
Sounds like a guy (not saying names) that Z tells to remove some files from "some" roms he was taking without permission, just trying to desestimate Z rom.
Beta 4 runs very well, theres no overheat.
Sorry for my bad english!!

Try charging the phone while its off. Ive heard people say that their phone wouldnt charge past a certain point but after charging it whilst off it returned to charging back to 100 percent. I bought a new usb cable for my charger after the terminal end into the phone became deformed and my phone now charges ~3x faster but ive never had it get abnormally hot.

Its funny that anyone with the know how or has supposedly read these forums continue to pay for (or pirate!) apps that have no effect. WITHOUT UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND CUSTOM KERNEL OVERCLOCKING APPS HAVE NO EFFECT! Check the overclock option in JuiceDefender, this option is not supported! The developer of the app has apparently left out any notice that it doesnt work with our kernel so they can continue to make sales.

why uv and potentialy damage anything if uving is not needed. i would not risk damaging something i payed $600+ for just for enjoyment. ( i know im a hypacrit)
ive never had any heat issues. you do need to remember the weather is hotter outside so its gonna make for a hotter starting point for the phone. the phone generates heat as its used. so if the phone starts off at 69F and goes up to 89f on a cold day on a hot day the phone is starting at 89f the phone will be at 109f in the same time span. (these numbers arnt exact. there just there for example)
Believe me mystery. I'm not asking in a noob perspective. When it comes to core hardware and heat, volts. Iknow my stuff. Far as I can tell my heat issue is not normal. And I can say this because I own two epic's.

The other day i was on 74% left on battery and i had 14Hrs.
definitely helps out.
Undervolting also reduces heat so it shouldn't break anything and if your phone freezes just pop out the battery and reboot and don't apply that amount again know you know what it can handle is all.

Okay in VC is the 1.1 and 1.2 checked green. because if its red then its not active.
And download SetCPU and your voltages will be there and apply them and put max bar to 1.2.
Im sure it will work then
I had a good UV setup going a while back, don't remember exactly what the settings were but I do remember looking at my battery stats and seeing 1d 7hrs with like 35% left. I was definitely pretty happy about that. Since I flash new stuff like every 5 minutes lol, I have no idea what setup I was running.

Roger that, green for go I will do as you suggest, haven't had setcpu for awhile as the recommendations were all starting to go towards VC.
EDIT: done and done, setcpu installed, cranked up to 1200. Uninstalled and reinstalled cpu spy and even reset timers. Still shows 1120 and 1200 as unused. Either I'm not working this phone hard enough or perhaps cpu spy is buggin out with Genocide? Well, its not like I'm unhappy with the speed I'm getting...

Hello,
is it normal that my Nexus 4 hits 50° Celsius (thats 122° Fahrenheit)?
I was just playing that 10 fast fingers app and it seemed like a light app so I was pretty surprised how hot it got and downloaded a temperature widget...
Any opinions? Did your device get so hot? Should I ask for a replacement?
Sounds fine to me? The glass doesn't block heat transference, so people really notice it a lot on this device. When you get above 65°C is when I'd start to worry.

The CPU creates the heat and much of it is transferred to the battery. One theory is that these phones throttle so quickly to prolong the life of the battery. I think they shut off at 70°
Are you on stock kernel? Try franco, he addressed this issue in his code. If you search his thread you will find useful info.
50 is fine. Desktop and laptops can often run up to 90 degrees Celsius. Also, you can't get blister from something that's 50 degrees.

During extended screen on time, like having Hit-it-rich running for 20 minutes
my Moto X Pure reached the temperature of 113
Still stock
The same screen time and app running on the One Plus One -- Reached the temperature of 101.3
The One Plus One is using CM12.1
These are battery temperatures according to the program.
I'm on my second moto x and it definitely runs much cooler than the first which would get to 112 browsing chrome.
I haven't bothered to check this unit as it is that much better.
The only time I noticed mine get hot was when I was installing all my apps. Since then, it's been remarkably cool, even when streaming Rick & Morty HD from Amazon.
It gets hot with Candy Crush...
mine gets warm from charging or just when i have the screen on ...it's always pretty warm, but as far as problems go that is pretty far down on the list
Mine hit 120 degrees F according to Ampere using Waze on the drive home. I use adaptive brightness set at half. I also have an Incipio Case protecting it....although I feel it's only hurting it temp-wise. I'm so on the verge of rooting tonight, but feel I might want to hold off in case I have to return it for lower than wanted battery life and the announcement of the Huawei 6p.
The only time I've noticed it getting warm since initial setup was while making a nandroid backup. I've not been very demanding of it though.
Phone Temperature!!!
Mine gets to 107 when playing heavy 3D games and at same time downloading with LTE beyond ten minutes. Other than that it is barely warm to warm. 80s and mid 90s. Upper 90s with 3d games.
Mine easily gets above 110 when I'm playing clash for a few min. Seems to avg 100 anytime my screen is on. Thinking I might need to swap for another one.

are you guys talking celcius or F!? i sure hope F lol.
right now installing all my apps and charging on my samsung fast charger, it's at 150 F lol..pretty damn hot. i just cut my sim down to a nano sim but i think it cut some of the sim part off ugh..gonna try it..if not, off to verizon to get a card
mine ran 100+ at all times. Texting, tapatalk, facebook, anything it was always hot. Worst call quality, awful heat and battery I had return label printed after a half a day of use. Worst phone ever
∆ Too bad you got a dud. My Pure is great fwiw.
