I have tmobile lg g2.
I just noticed this problem last night, driving to my friend's house, my first visit ever.
The arrow pointing where you are headed is not aligned with the road.
it is about 20~30 degrees off.
is this known issue?
is there a fix?
thx in advance.

Its a google maps issue. Hold the phone and then rotate the screen around and youll see the arrow rotate too. for me it usually points out to the left. Kinda annoying but a google issue, happened on my old GNex too.

thx. good to know that it's not the phone's problem.
but then my last phone was sgs3 and it didn't have any problems like this
hmm
Can anyone else confirm this?
This is really annoying

I can confirm this issue. Mine, unlike the other user, happens in both Google Maps and Waze navigation. It bounces my location to other nearby roads/streets. I unrooted my device and returned to stock, but the problem persists. I still have not been able to find a solution to this issue.
Google it. I saw someone on some forum created a GPS fix that's flashable for north American devices. His premise is that the native GPS programming uses GPS + glonass satellites and that actually can create issues.

Same issue here including running CM11. It's an odd issue as the compass heading feature in Google maps works fine on my Nexus 7. GPS position seems much better with CM11 on my G2 than on stock however and navigation has been working well.
Edit - Compass doesn't work with Gaia GPS either. This is really strange and is definitely a bug as Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus both show heading with both applications.

Figured this would be easier to find in searchs.
Problem: Your compass is backwards and overly erractic and inaccurate.
Solution: Upside down horizontal calibration
How: Plant the phone on a flat surface upside down. A low ceiling, top of a door frame etc. Make sure it's flat and facing upside down. Go to: Settings, Display, Horizontal calibration and calibrate it upside down.
Bingo bango, your broken compass should be fixed. This also cures slow auto rotation
Just tried that. Still as erratic and jumpy as ever.

Hardware problem?
The first time I used Google Maps with EB13 it told me that the compass needed to be calibrated and to move the phone several times in a figure 8 manner. I did it, and the compass has been fine. I'd never seen that before. I hadn't used the compass at all before this, so I don't know if it "fixed" a problem or if I just didn't have a problem, but I thought I'd throw it out there for people who are having problems.

Same for me but it was still broken. X-Plane was unplayable, auto rotation was slow and sometimes unresponsive because the compass was backwards and jumping direction erratically. (download a compass app and check yours) North was south, etc.
The upside down trick 100% cured the issue. Not the figure 8 or the right side up calibration.
*shrug*
Wow! Best find ever! The upsides down calibration worked for my slow gsensor lanscape bug! All this time, rooted was needed for the
"system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha" code to work! Very nice!
I wish I could claim credit for this (the member who deserves all the credit is styles420), and I wish it worked for everyone, but someone found this back when DK28 first leaked. It seems to help with a group of us with sensor data that gets mapped backwards during the flash. It shows up in the compass or google sky maps, but it seems to be a problem with the g-sensors that affects how the compass works.

try downloading GPS Status from the market. Open it and do the calibration tools. Should fix this. Also may improve your GPS (if it isn't doing well)
Possible, but it was the same on my previous epic. I haven't put too much effort into it since I don't really need a compass very often, but it would be nice to have it work for once.

I already have GPS Status. I did that calibration from that again, and it is still messed up. It jumps a little less, but I can turn the phone 90 degrees and the compass rotates 180. Then I turn the compass 90 degrees the same direction, and the compass jumps backwards 90 degrees. I'm having a really hard time figuring out a reason for the pattern. I might have to sit down and draw some compass diagrams.
Worked for me. Fixed slow auto rotate as well

tried all solutions here. no joy
Another issue, maybe?
I wonder if there might be an underlying issue here...
Was doing some research on why my battery life is garbage after EB13.
I hit on this thread because it looks like the compass sensor is consuming a ridiculous amount of CPU... I mean, foregrounded using 7% CPU when nothing else is going on.. like, no compass app or maps being used.
With my Epic pretty much quiescent, top consistently reports it (/system/bin/sensorserver_yamaha) as the highest user. Under DI18, it never even cracked the top ten.
Samsung Epic (EB13 Official) + Clockwork
wow thanks for the tip! i almost returned my epic because of this.
Amazing... how you found this out is beyond me, but it works!
I've just downloaded the Compass app from the market, but it doesn't seem to working correctly. I've tired both 'sensor types' but the direction it shows flickers and is incorrect.
Have any of you encountered the same issue?
you should try another app. I think gps status will work fine.

I've just tried that GPS Status app and it does work better then compass, but it seems to be about 40 degrees out when the phone is moves and even seems to wobble abit when it's stationary. I've made sure there's no interference before testing it out

I have this problem too. Definitely a sensor issue -- the apps work perfectly on other phones (and indeed I *think* the compass used to work).
This is really damn annoying -- part of the reason I got the phone was so I can make a gyroscope-assisted compass app.
Hmph.
Just installed it from the market and it worked without any settings adjustment on the SGS II.

I'm on the phone to O2 getting an exchange.
I'm hoping it's an uncommon problem
Let me know how that goes, I may have to do the same. My compass has since settled down but it is consistently off by about 25-30 degrees...

Hi mates,
Got the G2 few weeks ago, and i got few problems:
1. Knock-on doesn't work anymore when i try to open the screen. I'm on KitKat 4.4.2 and using Nova Launcher Prime if it matters.
2. When i'm trying to navigate using Waze, I can't have GPS signal - It says something like Go Outdoors, Using Approximate Location and so and so.
How do i solve these up there?
Thanks
Does Knock-On work with the stock, LG launcher?
I'm assuming you've already checked location settings for Waze to have this on "high accuracy" for GPS settings, right?

It doesn't. And yeah i already checked the location settings. All seems to be fine but actually it just doesn't work right
Gps is terrible on the g2, i had mine RMA back to LG UK, and apprantly they have fixed it! well i still dont get GPS indoors and most i ever get is 5m accuracy, not ideal for running or cycling.
apprantly it is a hardward fault but after some googling it seems kitkat doesnt agree one hundred percent on the gps module , jellybean was suppose to work flawlessy with gps.

What model do you have? I have the T-Mobile h918 on 10J firmware and I have issues like this on certain ROMs. MEGArom has given me this issue the most times. WETA did this one or twice and I don't remember stock giving me this issue but it's been so long since I've been on stock that I don't remember.
It only gives me an issue if I do power saver or device GPS only. If I do high accuracy then it starts working immediately
I'm beginning to think it's my hardware

ok after a couple of days going nuts, I've found what the problem was. I bought my phone off ebay. It's almost new but had a ding at the bottom plastic housing (trim). So i bought a new one. While it was coming, i rooted the phone and the very next day got the new housing. I came with the top trim too. so I've replaced both. Done messing around with the phone, set it all up. the end. nope. Until one morning i couldn't navigate anywhere and that's when the crazy days started with flashing, trying different things etc. long story short, this f-ing top housing trim wasn't genuine and so it happens to be a gps ANTENA. So the moment you unscrew those 4 screws and take it off, gps stops working, period. I accidentally found out about it while i was ready to return the phone and putting the old trim back. Now the location locks in 3 seconds, like it used to. So there you have it, in case anybody needs this, i bet this is the cure for any gps signal issues.
Wondering if anyone is having the same frustrating experience as me in terms of GPS locking on when first opening Maps or Waze. It seems like it's taking 2-3 minutes for Maps or Waze to actually figure out exactly where I am and properly display a route. I realize this was sort of normal years ago but not anymore. Before it locks on correctly, the route is created but a message about no GPS appears on the top of the app and I'm stuck not having directions. This was not an issue on my 5T. I'm on OOS 9.0.12 rooted. This has been the same on every version of OOS since I got the phone, even stock TMO ROM before I switched over.
Any ideas?
I use maps a lot for daily commute. For me the map gets GPS lock nearly instantly. I live in the Midwest so terrain is not a factor, and my home and work locations are not impacted by tall buildings, so I have a very easy case.
Have you tried some other apps that check number of satellites your GPS is locked to?
It's possible it is a hardware problem too.

I haven't tried any GPS specific apps other than the navigation apps. I used to use those years ago but not recently. It happens in various places. I live in NH so I could be in the city for a bit and then out in the middle of nowhere with not much around later on. Seems like it happens no matter where I am. I'll get an GPS app and see whats going on with the satellites though, thanks!
Having the same issue since monday after installing latest update update to my OP6T. Can't use any navigation app....
Since I've gotten the phone, I've had issues with the GPS. Gps aiming me in the wrong direction, telling me that I'm on the perpendicular roads and all kinds of crap. Sometimes I'm on the highway and it'll think I got off at an exit. But I didn't! So now it's rerouting me then it realizes that I'm actually on the correct road. So it reroutes me again. All while I'm traveling 60, and every precious second counts.
How can I get the calibration screen back?
To me this sounds like an intermittent fault with the GPS. Hardware problem.
First thing I do as soon as I get any GPS problems with an Android:
I install GPS Status from the playstore : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Just start the app, then use your GPS and often the problem is gone. It's worth a try!

Hey, thanks for this. Even inside a building this works pretty well. It's awful that we need another app to do what the phone should do on its own, but at least it works.

Sometimes it's not necessary to use GPS-Status all the time. You can try to delete the app maybe your problem is still gone. Anyway, nice to know that you are able to use your GPS again!
There is a problem with the 6T Gps for sure. I tested two Oneplus 6T devices. Both work 100% . Gps is very nice most of the time. If I am on call I loose Gps lock and I need to terminate the call to get Gps location back. It's not app specific as it happens in all gps apps. Even gps status looses lock. It happens always in the same place. Unfortunately it's near my home. I have no idea how to solve the problem. I tried Note 3/S8+/S7 - none have this problem. Most people have no idea what I am talking about as it's location specific. Anyone else has seen this problem ?

Had a 6T and a friend also has one. The GPS is definitely crap.
It has lock in an open field. But if you are in a city, or there are various roads around you, good luck!
Managed to already do like 30km of a detour on foot thanks to it. It also caused Waze to tell me wrong directions.
I did check other phones, like a P10, and an S7 Edge, and a Note 4 (lol). They all had like full green signals, while the 6T struggled to achieve mid-range reception. There is something wrong with the antenna, or the gain, something. Hardware/build wise. I'd just get a OnePlus 7 or 5T (if someone can't wait). This is clearly something OP can't/won't fix. It's just not possible.
There was a site where they tested GPS lock... shame they didn't do one for the 6T.
Something is more than likely wrong with the phone itself. I have driven 10k+ miles in cities, country, desert freeways with no civilization for miles with this phone. I have never had a GPS issue. If it did have one, I'd be pissed since I'm a ride share driver and I go back to California on a regular basis visiting family from Las Vegas.
If you're rooted with magisk you can try installing the Global Optimized GPS File Replacer module
I use GPS constantly to handle traffic and the 6t works fine for me both in the city and out in the suburbs. No issues.
I will say maps recently changed something such that if it expects you to exit, but you stay on the highway, it shows you going down the exit for a few hundred feet until it realizes you aren't exiting. But that's a Google thing not a 6t thing.

Same exact problem, occurring only near my workplace. Consistently, on all versions of OOS so far. If I remember to start GPS Locker before opening Maps or Waze, it is much less likely to happen but it has happened twice even that way. Never had this issue with any other phone.

I am still fighting with this issue. Just did a big install in my car and I have use Android Auto when driving and it's even harder to fix when it happens. Have to go back into the phone and launch the GPS fix app and hope the GPS starts moving on the head unit screen. It's very, very annoying.
GPS works great for me. I have only used custom ROMs so not sure how it works in stock. But using microg and osm+ I have never really had any issues. Using a GPS locking app such as GPS locker seems to help. Using Google apps for location is not working for me all the time beings how Waze requires Internet access to find locations. And beings how I use t mobile service is not available in most of western Washington. Even when using GPS locker I never have lost lock once GPS was locked. There has been two times I had to use the update a-gps from the GPS test app. If using microg local gsm seemed to be the best back end for me.
