[Q] Smartshareprovider/dlna killing battery - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the verizon version of the g2 running the clean rom 1.0. Under settings share and connect, both nfc and miracast are turned off which I think is what both dlna and smartshare are related to yet they still show up taking a combined 20% of my battery. Any ideas on how to get it to stop? Is this normal?

Same here, but T-Mobile and 24%
I froze them with Titanium Backup. I'll report back.

This made an insane difference. 68% left after a day (fairly light use though)

I solved my battery drain problem

I was having a problem with fast battery drain on my SGS2. I would get 15 hours if lucky from a full charge with light - moderate use. My most recent charge looks like it has doubled the time.
What did I change? I did a factory reset and manually installed all my apps, NOT using titanium backup. I had used titanium backup to restore apps only, that were from my previous phone (Nexus1). I have never used titanium backup for system settings, only apps, but it seems even that is unreliable. I've now stopped using titanium backup completely.

Can anyone verify this...
Will it matter if it's i9100 to i9100, or just any other phone to i9100?
Well... Ive done several hard resets , because I though I had a network problem , and I many of those I didnt install titanium or even root the device and the battery life was the same.
Just one opinion..

If you notice a higher battery drainage than normal then you have to see what application you've installed lately. If you can't find it then the only option is to do a Hard Reset. That has worked for me, IF your battery is drained by some app which you've installed lately.
Regards.
I am sure battery drain has to do with the apps we installed and the settings we use.
We are in a fortunate situation that my wife and I have both S II, hers is 2 days older from the same shop, so I assume both devices are from the same batch. Hence no hardware difference.
I installed a lot app and played with lots of settings and if my wife like it, she "demand" to install it on hers too, so hers is a more controlled env.
For some reason my battery drains a lot quicker than hers. I still have to find out which application / settings cause this.
For an experiment, we did not use both phones for a full day (very difficult), so all the drain is due to background processes.
There are several dips in the graph, but those are explicitly usage of the phone for a while. The big last drop on her battery was because she was playing a game for more than 3 hrs.
PS.
A collegue of mine (also an SII) had his battery run out quickly, until he found out his culprit: Settings->Location and security->Use wireless network was ON.
You can see the effect of this as the "almost horizontal bar" in my wife's battery when we turned it off.
thx for info man.
What would happen if i turn that off? I want to try this to preserve my batt life. Thanks!

PB_2003. You had to use one phone to make a shot of another phone? Just hold down the home key and press the power key. You will be able to take shots like the attached.
I have used TV to restore many times and battery life is fine. I'm would suggest that the issue is some app you are restoring rather than TB

I wonder if having 3rd party launchers like launcher pro drains the battery quicker. I installed launcher pro without ever having really tested the battery life of the phone with the standard launcher. Has anyone here tested the difference, if any, of the battery life of standard v market app launchers?

The screen shot on the left is your phone correct? It looks like something is waking your phone up and leaving it in an awake state for far too long. Your graph represents over a day's time and I see those huge chunks of time where your screen is off but your phone is awake; I'd say some program is what do they call it *wakelock* every now and then.

it's not just the apps that was just installed. It should include apps that are updated. I had this issue on SGS I when beautiful widget was having issues with updates causing the phone to use more battery power than usual
Morel likely to be a bad app, or a bad app setting causing the app not to close properly then drain power than the mere fact you restored it via titanium.
anyone one trying while sleeping, off your packet data ?
for me i tested,
2350 @100% to 0700 @ 99% (during packet data off)
If on, it will left 70% ++ in the next morning..
why is that so?
This is my battery drain using Litening ROM 1.5
I usually make and receive 30min phone call a day, push email on 2 accounts, wi-fi at work, data always on.

Turning off data packet doesn't allow any application going on line (unless you have your wifi on) and cannot download e-mails, synchronize anything, etc..
This saves your battery a lot.

Yes, that is also what I suspect. It is just to find out what which application / settings this cause.
I found out that I have 4 apps has an "sync" account, I delete all of them (except gmail), now I got a lot better performance (1 day: still 75%).

Of course the updates are included. There should be an app/good optimized app which will allow us to close the apps and thus Auto Sync and Background Data to off when we are not using them, especially at bed time. The in built task manager's RAM Clearance function is crap and frankly I haven't found an app which will optimize the RAM without force losing the apps/widgets. Tried 'Gemini App' but I doubt! This 'Sync' stuff is the main responsible part of high battery drain.

Battery draining problems

Hiya,
Ever since I got my phone replacement (Brand New in Box from Bell) I noticed that the battery drains 10% per hour regardless of my current clock speeds.
I'm only listening my music.
My mobile data is on.
Wifi is off.
I have ES Task Manager set to autokill when screen off
Details:
ROM- CyanogenMod Nightly #140
CPU Clock speeds- 245~368 Mhz
CPU Governer- ON DEMAND
VM Heap Size- 48m
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Just making sure I'm reading you right, you have es task manager killing apps? Android 2.2 doesn't have any need for that, and it may hurt your battery life.
First thing to check is to make sure any apps that sync (weather) aren't syncing every 15min, and change them to every few hours. If that still doesn't work, try a different battery. May just have a bad one.
Sent from my T-mobile G2 using Tapatalk
Go into spare parts > battery history > partial wake usage
This will show apps that are running in the background that are using the battery. If there are any 'rogue' apps that aren't behaving properly, this should show it. You can also use Watchdog Lite from the Market (free) to monitor CPU usage of applications to try and find what is running down your battery.
Although, if you are listening to music, 10% drain per hour doesn't sound too much out of the ordinary.
Update: I stopped my music for roughly 45 minutes and it seems that music doesn't affect it much. It still drains.

Yea good call. And get rid of that task killer! No need for that, especially in CM7.
Having similar problems suddenly. I was getting nearly 24 hours of battery life with normal usage, but in the last 4-5 days the phone drains to death while in standby. Searched here and online and couldn't find anything other than the normal check apps, etc. But I haven't changed anything in months, and usage isn't showing anything out of the ordinary.
Is it possible my battery is hosed? Android OS says battery health is still "good", and outside of screen-off it seems to drain normally. I even left it on for about 30 minutes and lost 1%. But overnight it went from 100% to 1% in just short of 7 hours with absolutely no use. So bizarre...

It's not just you.
I have same problem, with two different batteries, even after hard reset.
I have been having this problem the last two days as well. The t-mobile forum says to roll back the updates to the google maps app. I just rolled it back, will see if it helps.

Didn't help me.
Only turning on airplane mode helped me.
I think it's a TMO infrastructure/network problem of some sort, honestly. Maybe a bug with the deployment of 2.3?
Yeah didn't help me either.
I had my phone fully charged when i made the post earlier and it is now dead.
Hopefully they shed some light on this soon.
OK good I'm not crazy
One thing I noticed last night after draining and wiping battery stats again is when I woke up it said Dialer took up 49% of the battery usage? I charged to full with the phone off, turned it on and it sat on the nightstand until this morning. Received 2 texts during that time, no phone calls made or received, and my alarm is set at 6am on it and went off. Battery went from 100% to 19% in this state.
This is frustrating. I read the T-Mo thread and it's seeming more like network issues? Anyone else have this problem here on XDA?
EDIT: Customer Support is useless. Insistent that forum posts "mean nothing" and I need to pay them $20 to replace the phone. Also they have no logged issues on this, even though I've seen multiple posts of people who've called in. Sigh.
Also been experiencing the exact same problem with CM13X and CM151. I had uninstalled maps, which didn't improve anything, so I reinstalled it and it appears to be okay now
So far 1h16m since full charge after uninstalling Maps completely and rebooting and clearing cache, and battery is still 100% while sitting on my desk here at work. Also Dialer isn't showing 50% usage either. Hmmm.

Massive battery drain

Hey guys. Recently my battery has been dying at an alarming rate. According to BBS it's from a process called diagnostics.client.Wakelock, does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
I started noticing the drain after setting up my Galaxy Gear, don't know if that may have something to do with it.
Thanks!

I am facing a huge battery drain as well after the recent update was pushed. I don't have the "diagnostics.client.Wakelock" in BBS but Samsung Push Service was hogging a lot so I turned that off. It was 80% at 11PM and today morning it was down to 59% .. that's 21% in standby mode. Is it not going into sleep mode or is something else causing this? I have almost everything turned off. Any ideas guys? Thank you.
MJ7? (not sure why but like other people remarked - the battery life looks to have somewhat declined - 30-60% less?)

Yes MJ7. I hope this is a bug that can get fixed sooner than later. It's horrible. I just got 1h 37mins of screen time and now I am down to 12%. Just a few calls and some Instagram. Nothing else. Would removing the battery for a while or something help? I haven't installed any app since updating to MJ7 (2 days ago).
I've had this issue with MI7 and MJ7 so the update is not the problem. My guess is me freezing most of the samsung bloat on the phone through Titanium is causing this. Maybe there's a process trying to find something thay I froze?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I fixed it by charging my battery up to 90% then removed the battery and kept it aside for a while ~10 mins and then plugged it back in and charged it to 100%. Now it seems to be normal again. No drain last night. Moved only 1% from 12AM to 9PM. Cheers!
I have the same issue with MJ7 firmware; the phone sometimes doesn't get into deep sleep while the screen is off.
A possible cause of the issue: switch off wifi when data are off.
So now I switch data on before turning wifi off.
Anyone ever find a solution to this? It's killing me.
Same here, my battery declines almos 1% every 5 minutes just texting via Whatsapp and I know Whatsapp is not the guilty. Using Wakelock monitor shows 30% Android System usage with a lot of entries in Gpslocationprovider (even with GPS off and everything on Location settings off), SyncloopWakelock and AlarmManager... MJ7 here too... My Note2 wasn't like this... I finished the day with 5% of baterry after heavy use from 8am til 10pm (including 45' watching videos)... With my Note3 at mid-day I have my battery death!! I can't believe it! and I don't know what is happening (I only have 4 days with my new Note 3) and I have tried almost everything (deactivating) except wipe data/factory reset (I've tried soft reset and nothing)
Anyone ever find a solution to this wakelock?

I noted that my GN3 would have great and then poor battery drainage. It seemed to happen right after my first long call of the day. I noted in my wakelock app that diagnostics.client.wakelock was using a lot of time.
I decided to take more drastic action by doing a factory reset and restoring apps one by one. I first used Kingo Root to root my GN3. I had to uninstall Kies and the Samsung driver to get the rooting to work.
Then I backed up with Helium and Titanium backup.
After a factory reset, my battery usage was about 0.2 percent per hour. I use only data and no wifi.
I have now restored most of my apps and still have 0.3 percent per hour usage. I have not updated any Samsung or ATT apps.except for ATT code scanner. i have not "used" any of the google apps except for gmail, search, google+ (signed out). Google music is turned off.
Diagnostics.client.wakelock still shows up but with low time now.
After twelve hours, the GN3 is at 96 percent including a two minute phone call and email updates.
------
After a long phone call, I once again saw my battery usage increase and stay up after the phone call.
-----
I re-started with a factory reset and only restored the minimum apps that I use to browse, email, text, phone, and backup.
So far it is performing well in battery usage.
I will be adding more apps until I find the one that breaks the good performance.
-----
So far I have been able to make it through 24 hours using only TEN percent battery usage. I have added TextPlus, BofA, drippler, Helium, Titanium Backup Pro, CPU Spy Plus, Wakelock Detector, System Tuner Pro, Battery Monitor Pro, AutoBluetooth, Maps, Youtube, YP, Total Commander, Visual Voicemail, Quick Boot, Root Checker, Turn Off Screen. Everything else is stock without updating AT&T apps or Samsung apps.
I am seeing an idle usage of less than 0.3% and that is with two widgets for Battery Monitor and System Tuner. They and Textplus use up the most power. I also talked on the phone via bluetooth for about 30 minutes.
I still get the diagnostic.client.wakelog but only getting about 5 percent awake time.
-----
I did another factory reset. This time I did not allow any app updates.
I installed Titanium Backup, CPU Spy Plus, Wakelock Detector, Battery Monitor Widget Pro.
I have not seen a diagnostic.client.wakelock at all after one hour of use.
-----
I added TextPlus, System Tuner Pro. I put the widgets to System Tuner pro and Battery Monitor on the home screen.
I have not updated any apps since the reset.
I have counted about 7 diagnostic.client.wakelocks for a total of 4 seconds of wake time. My wake time percentage since yeaterday is around 1 percent.
I plan to update apps one at a time to see which one kills the battery usage with wake locks.
I just added AT&T Visual Voicemail, PayPal, BofA, and Evernote to my GN3.
The diagnostics.client.wakelock started climbing and keeping my phone from sleeping.
Uninstalling the four apps did not help.
I think that the problem is with the Visual Voicemail.
----
Factory reset my phone and am back to 1 percent wake state and very low battery drain.
----
The cause of the bad wakelock was due to restoring APP+DATA in Titanium Backup. I did that to save setup steps.
I had restored BofA and Shazam with data and the wakelocks started up.
After I factory reset again, I installed apps the normal way and have been seeing a 0.3 percent use per hour.
Samsung's own software is most garbage in my opinion.
If you use ChatOn and Samsung Hub, etc, disabling this may have an impact.
Here's how I've solved the problem with this pig of an app.
1) go to application manager under settings.
2) go to the "ALL" tab
3) find that "samsung push service"
4) uninstall - this will only uninstall the updates. Once all the very useful updates are gone, the option changes to disable.
5) disable and good riddance.
On a side note, search for this on the playstore. the reviews are hilarious.
c.
Nothing I had tried up to today has fixed my battery drain and diagnostics.client.wakelock issue.
However, today, I got a software update OTA (nb4) on my phone and it appears the problem is fixed.

Got my new 6p two days ago. Seeing ridiculously bad battery.

Have updated until the update notifications stopped coming. Sitting on 6.0.1 with Feb patch. What can I do? I was wondering if this is a problem with stock rom and moving to something like pure nexus would help?
I searched Google (and Xda) and found there are people both affected and not affected by this problem. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: if needed, my SOT right now sits at 2h35m58s with 30% battery left. Have screen listed at top on things using battery most with 8% and it shows 5hrs worth juice left.

No widgets. `Google now` and `google now on tap` turned off. NFC turned off (Wifi, BT on). Listening for `OK google` turned off completely. Screen brightness managed by adaptive brightness.
Apps include the normal google ones that came pre-installed and whatsapp, slack, apple music, pebble time, harvest (timesheet app for work), pocket, sync pro (reddit) and 1password.
I did find out that the device seems to be awake much more than the screen. Seems like a wakelock. I'll have to root the device later today and install wakelock detector to see what's up.
Over 2.5 hours SOT with 30% left isn't the end of the world. People eek 6 hrs out of this phone either with greenify or naptime or they turn all the location and background services off.
I'm at 17% with about 3.25 hrs SOT now on a third party ROM without greenify and everything running in the background. If I get 4hrs+, I'm fine with that. I have chargers everywhere.

Yeah I don't really care about SOTs and stuff. Only put it here because I thought it may help someone think of something that might be wrong. The actual problem is, I am literally seeing battery percentage go down as I use the phone. I browse a few pages on chrome, maybe 15-20 minutes and my battery goes down 6-7%. Neither of my previous phones did that and none of them were known for their good battery life like nexus 6p. That kinda has me concerned.
I'd advice you to charge your battery full (leave it on charger for 30mins after it says that it's full). Then use BetterBatteryStats background while you use your phone normally all the way down to 10%.
Take screenshots from BetterBatteryStats and from battery (from settings).
There are quick toggles for Wifi and Bluetooth, no need to keep them on constantly if they're not needed. Bluetooth is known to drain battery for some users (not me though). Screen brightness is 100% with adaptive brightness? Are you always in a well lit area? I use 50% w/ adaptive. I usually get something between 4.5 to 6 hours of SOT.
Pebble time can be your drainer, I remember ppl complaining about it a while ago.
So I flashed purenexus with elemental x. It probably is better to let it go for a few recharge cycles before commenting but things are already looking very good For anyone looking at this in future, I suggest a minimum of system reset (or flash a new rom if you wanna go all the way).
I'll monitor the battery life over this week.

Trying to track down cause of recent battery drain issue.

Hello all,
So I know there's various discussions all over the web about the Galaxy s10 and battery issues on both Snapdragon and Exynos variants. It seems people are experiencing a wide margin of difference in avg battery life..
So here's my situation. My wife and I both have S10+'s through AT&T. We got them the first week they came out. I looked though the forums and performed several battery optimization tweaks on both phones and since then the battery life has been really impressive... No complaints really. Until this last week.
We both recieved the March security patch and fingerprint scanner fix about a week ago. My wife's phone seems unchanged by this. Everything working as expected. My phone however has been draining battery MUCH faster both in SOT and standby time. I'm losing 2-3x more battery % overnight. In the last 20 mins of just reading through threads on the XDA forum app, I've lost about 10% battery. I'm sitting in the dark with my screen brightness very low too. (down another 5% since I started typing this!)
My wife and I have very similar phone habits. Since both our phones are optimized identically, and we used most of the same apps a play the same games, I started looking through everything different I've done in my phone since this problem started. I installed Adhell3, which seems to be setup properly and working. Mike B. from Adhell's Discord assured me that Adhell shouldn't be draining my battery. I'm mostly using it just to remove a bunch of basic bloatware and block some ads.
The update seems to have worked fine otherwise. My FP scanner is much better now, but something is definitely wrong. I've tried wiping the partition cache afterwards. I've tracked down others experiencing issues after this particular update, but cant seem to find a way to fix this problem yet. I saw something about Deep Sleep problems after the update when someone uses a VOIP service like Skype or WhatsApp, but I dont use anything like that. I can't even find a good tool to use to see more information about my battery usage, as the built-in battery monitor lacks a good deal of information. CPUspy doesn't work on my version.
If anyone has any ideas of what could be the culprit, what else I could try, or what tools I could use to try and track down what exactly is causing this sudden increase in drain, I'd really appreciate it.
Which update do you have ASBA or ASCA? This is rather weird, Battery drain can also come from restoring from backups. I lose 2% every night and my phone is on airplane mode, not connected to anything except location. I do not have adhell, and last time I tested before the fingerprint update I had 10h SoT on wifi purely. When I got the new fingerprint update I checked if the phone went to deep sleep and it does, so I really do not know what might be your issue. I have an exynos variant btw. Also I charge my phone constantly from 80 I let it drop to 40 and charge it back, I do not use fast charging options. Since unplugging my phone now on LTE fully I have lost 1% in 30 min, I have my fitbit always connected, location on, max resolution, I have a semi black wallpaper and brightness around 40-50%.
I will see today how much SoT I can get from 80% part wifi, part LTE, I will update.
clear cache helped a lot of people

I'm really hoping I don't end up having to factory reset and manually install everything... Because I did do a restore from backup with AT&T Transfer, because it seemed really convenient and time saving. I had no idea that so many people have had issues with restoring from various back up services (AT&T, Samsung, Google etc.)
I did the same restore from backup on my wife's S10+ too and she's had no problems. Her battery life is phenomenal. My battery issues only started after this last update.

Well that seems rather strange to be honest, you can eliminate possibilities by just testing and see what works. Last possibility can be that factory resetting and installing all new, but then again, it could be that it solves your issues or not. You should be having rather horizontal lines to prove your phone is truly going into deep sleep in my opinion, but also you can check with CPU Spy
Sorry it will be this pic
Try to log too safe mode and check the battery drain
If stopped then it was from an application that have a problem
If not I think it might be a system app or something
So. I'm starting to think that some of my problem has to do with wakelocks. Unfortunately I have limited access to wakelocks statistics since my phone is unrooted. However. Last night I fully charged my phone right before bed and then took it off the charger to see how much it would lose overnight. It dropped a whopping 10% vs the 1-2% it used to.
I looked through some of the battery info and noticed several apps running in the background for very long periods of time since last night. Chrome(2hrs) , Discord(2hrs), Google Play Services(a whopping 13hrs 30mins running in background) and Google Play store (5hrs)
Somehow Discord was responsible for draining 7.6% battery in that time!
So, could this be a wakelock issue causing my phone to lose so much battery overnight? I know that's only half the problem, because I'm also experiencing higher drain than usual while using certain apps too. But I'm trying to figure out one thing at time.

You can look at this thread and see if you can install the app without being root or not

You just need to tweak your settings more, put which apps do not run on the background or go to sleep, how many days you need to wait to put unused apps to sleep. Is all tweaking the settings.

Then I don't what you can do, either do a factory reset and so not restore anything from backups and see if that works. I usually set my phone that way, clean no restoration from any backup all apps are installed manually, and I do not even use adhell to disable most of Samsung crap apps and services.
