Best File Manager - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

..

Total Commander

I think that ES File explorer is the best
Why?
- Multiple areas can be opened...(LAN, Local, FTP)
- Decent GUI

IMO Solid Explorer is the best its everything you need and easy to use

Removing car panel SOLVED

My dhd is rooted with s off.
I really want to uninstall the car panel app but can't find it in root manager or root explorer or adb list. Does anyone know the apk name and any other linked apk that works with it?
I'd really appreciate the help.

Anyone's help would be great. Thanks

You should go into root explorer, go to the system/app/, folder and it should be in there.
r0cky.Da.3v0.SU.
All the apps are there but I can't find the car panel apk. They might have named it something not obvious. Do you know the name of the apk? Thanks for getting back to me by the way.

Try to look for the apk that says panel
r0cky.Da.3v0.SU.
Nope, nothing there

Still no one who found it? I'm looking to get ridt of it too..
It is part of the locations app. If you want to get rid of it you must delete the entire locations suite.
If this is really what you want, delete all the files containing either "locations" or "laputa" in the file name from /system/app using root explorer.

Droid X File Manager vs Astro

I was considering ditching my old stock Droid X "File Manager" app for Astro, but I'm hesitant to do so since the market doesn't have the generic stock one for me to redownload. I discussed this in another thread of mine and the guy that responded said with Titanium backup on my phone Astro is kind of useless. I'm not 100% sure of that. Any thoughts?

Just install Astro and if you don't like it delete it...It doesn't hurt to have both

I already installed Astro once and liked certain things about it, but the stock file manager has something called "Shared Folders". I was afraid that uninstalling it might mess up the "Media Share" app since Astro doesn't have that particular feature. Other than that I think Astro is more expansive and runs much more smoothly. Does uninstalling the stock file manager mess up Media Share?

Well I guess the OCD in me want my phone to be as "clean" as possible. I hate for apps I don't use to be running in the background and I hate running multiple apps that do the same thing (like "Social Networking" vs Tweetdeck"). Anyway, I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Uh freeze the apps with titanium backup, esp sys apps, then you don't have to worry about trying to reinstall them if they cause malfunctions...

Nevermind about Astro. I paid for "Root Explorer" last night and I'm pretty darn sure it's superior to any other file manager that I've seen. Also, I renamed the stock File Manager app to ".bak" by using Root Explorer, so now I don't have to worry about reinstalling it if I wanna use it again. I wish I'd done that with all the apps I've uninstalled in the past.... :-(

+1 for Root Explorer.
Root Explorer is by far the best with functionality. You can also get Explorer, which is the free version of it.
Root explorer is MILES ahead of all others hands down.

I just put root explorer on my wifes dinc and it is definitely the best one out there. I just hope she is careful with it lol

nothing better than root explorer
Need to give root explorer a look
Yeah man. Root Explorer = WIN
It makes the stock File Manager and Astro look useless. Lol.

ES File Explorer

Unrooted Xoom here.
Just found this app (thanks to a forum member!) and I'm wondering if I can use it to uninstall apps I don't want i.e Dungeon Defender.
TIA

Not sure but I know root explorer works.

I'd be curious why you don't just do so through the Market? Either way ES File Explorer is great -- I use it to manage files on my server both through FTP and my local network. Fantastic app it is!

You can get rid of anything in /system/app just by renaming it so it doesn't end in apk.

I am wanting to delete some of the pre-installed apps.
They don't show up as market downloads.

You can't remove system apps through the market.

My bad didn't read far enough! I just tried unrooted and it was unsuccessful. Back on the phone it was easy to do. Not sure if its the same as I'm waiting to root. But go to the menu, click manage, then apps. Again rooted may be a different story.

Don't you need root to be going around and messing with system files? Pretty sure you do, but I might be wrong.

[SUBJECTIVE] Best file manager app, for you?

Now this is an issue I've had for a long while. On my GS3, I've pretty much settled with Root Explorer pro, but on the Nexus 7, this doesn't work out. RE is pretty boring in the way of looks. Simple, and featureful but not visually appealing on a 7 inch screen.
I've heard a lot about Solid Explorer (which recently turned try 'n buy), ES File Explorer and Astro, and some manager called "File Manager HD (tablets), but which one works for you? Do you at all care about fancy-schmancy eye candy?
i like the miui file explorer.simple, looks nice and really comfortable to use
Solid Explorer is my favorite file manager

+1. By far.
Tip it into landscape and it splits the screen so you have a seperate source and destination sides. That and connecting into cloud services like theyre just another folder on your sdcard or external card. Its grrrrrrrrreat!

Solid explorer is beyond a doubt the best file manager available. There is one thing that root explorer does better, and that's automatically making a copy of your build.prop if you modify your original. Other than that, se is amazing, especially for root users.

Root Explorer FTW. It's simple, fast and light.
im still using ES File Explorer but im gonna try Root explorer later

File Manager HD but I'm going to try Solid.

I'm partial to the file browser in cm 10.1. It does a great job at being a file browser and doesn't try to cram in a lot of bloat like ftp, and samba. Solid explorer, like so many before it, was a nice browser and then started adding in crap left and right until it became cumbersome.
ES file explorer ftw

File.expert pro.
+1 for solid .

X-plore the best for me. Alternative is Total Commander.
ES file manager. Lan and wan storage browsing, and ftp server. I use the ftp server to transfer between phone and n7 daily.

Root explorer, since I prefer pure file manager without many add on. But will try solid later.

I always use root explorer, simple, fast and classy

Build.prop changes tend to not stick w/es. For general file management it's fine. Solid and root explorer are the way to go for root users.
I've been using Total Commander for a while now, and really like it. Not the best looking app ever, but very functional.

Phanton "Pictures, Videos" in Storage

I have close to 1 GB related to "Pictures, Videos" in Storage that I cannot for the life of me find. How do I find what it is Android is determining to be "Pictures, Videos".
Thanks y'all
Well, you look in every folder for images and videos. That's what Android takes as pictures and videos
In other words. Download a file manager. Like ES file

I have Root Explorer and CM's file manager. unless i'm missing something, I don't see an easy way to find all "Picture/Video" files.

Amazingly enough I found it
It's called ".thumbdata3--1967290299". It's about 500 MB and there's two of them. What in the world are these?
Probably cached pictures.
Usually if you delete them.. They are still their if you look in the right places.
