Remember to do a factory reset and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and system, before flashing this in twrp.

Ok so im thinking about trying out miui rom from cm7. Is all i need to do is make a nandroid backup then wipe cache, data and dalvik cache and then flash the new zip?
You will also have to wipe system.

And if I don't like miui then wipe and then restore backup?

Yes, just wipe system, data/cache, and dalvik-cache.

Should i not restore back to stock due to the auto update so it will break my root and all?

How do I get 4.1.2?

So, I have stock 4.1.1, unlocked with Clockwork. When I downloaded 4.1.2, I went to Clockwork and tried to flash it but I got an error. Now it says my "System is up to date" on 4.1.1. How can I get a 4.1.2 that won't require a wipe on stock? I don't want to wipe and go custom, I like this stock and don't want to screw with it very much.

Errors are typically seen with modified system files or kernel. Depending on what the error says there are a couple ways to resolve the issue.
The most direct options involve flashing the system, kernel, and bootloader from the factory image followed by clearing the cache and dalvik cache. This will not affect user data.

Hi, I have the problem that when I get the OTA, reboot and try flash I get an error. I assume this is because I.could have a modified filesystem.
Edit: I have error because I have CWM and not stock recovery.
Decided not to upgrade to 4.1.2 after reports of loss of sensitivity. I will wait.

Titanium Backup and Data Wipes

Hey guys, just got the 32gig nexus 7 for Christmas and I love it! I rooted and flashed cyanogen and it's nice, but I would love to try other roms. I have bought titanium backup and made a back up, but I've hit a wall here in my logic - since there's not external storage, won't wiping the data delete my back up?

I don't believe it will because the storage for you stuff is actually labeled as /sdcard/. I know that my One X does not wipe my "sdcard" data when I've flashed from Sense ROMs to CM10 and the device is built pretty much the same with onboard storage.

No, wiping data only wipes /data, as the name suggests.

If you use TWRP, do NOT format data. Hit the factory reset button and it will wipe everything except /data/media which is where your emulated SD card is. Since you're interested in trying other ROMs, why not try MultiROM? It's quite stable and very functional. I dualboot PA and CM10.1 at the moment and I will be adding more later if I feel like setting up another one.
Here's a link for MultiROM recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403
Don't be intimidated, it's actually quite easy to install. Just flash the zip then fastboot install the modified TWRP recovery. Easy peasy.

Wipe cache

If I wipe the dalvic cache and regular cache will it erase the powerhal I flashed? I tried a new kernel and don't like it so don't want the powerhal also.

Nope, doesnt uninstall anything just deletes system cache aka what the system keeps in short term memory to be more efficient.

What I do... After I downloaded kernel of course lol.. Is go into recovery then wipe cache partition and wipe davlik. Flash the kernel then repeat the two wipes and reboot.
Never had a problem.
