ok cool. how do u think that will affect battery life?
also, i feel like for some reason i remember seeing an option within the S4 to change stuff based on location, such as ringtone/vibrate settings when at work, or silence the phone at certain times automatically....wasnt that built in somewhere? i cant for the life of me find it anywhere.

Trying to see if anyone has or can make a flash file for the spring navigation since the rom does not include it. Or does someone know the best navigation software for the epic?
Thanks.
I just use google navigation.
though gps seldom has hard time locking on.
but once it is on.. it's pretty accurate.

google navigation works pretty good but you can grab the epic system dump and install SN28-1092-sprint-signed.apk from the app folder or google that file name

I am trying out Navigon, which I also used on my WM phones. it costs but it has the advantage of working off line, and its mapset is very very good with speed limits etc.
There are some issues with it, like ease of navigating from a contact, and that it doesn't have al the street names on the 3d nav screen
so how do i stop the bloody google maps running in the background? It keeps popping up again in my end task manager.
I don't want to uninstall it.

I keep my GPS turned of when I'm not using it, and Google Maps is never running in the background.
Do you use Google Latitude or have any maps/latitude widgets on screen? those will cause this activity.

When I cooked my ROM, I took everything out that ran in the background that I never used;
Clearfi, Media Server, etc. but never touched anything related to GPS, or maps, so I have no idea why it wouldn't be running on mine, and running on yours. Which version of HC are you running?

Use system tuner pro and freeze any app.it won't run again until you boil it.
I think that the maps service will run if you have 'shared your location' with the browser or other apps that use maps for location specific information. This can be switched on in Settings -> location and security.

No, but you can make sure everything related to location in your settings is turned off as stated by someone else?
Check under Settings and disable anything related to location, besides GPS (really not needed to disable, it only runs when an application that use GPS is running) .
See my screen capture.

My bet is your problem lies in your ROM/Kernel mix, but just a guess then.

Possibly, was wondering if anyone else encountered the same problem before i start messing around with changing kernels or roms. Plenty of people using this combination and haven't seen any posts with same problem as me. Thanks for the help anyway. Maybe I'll try a different kernel

Quick question Moe. Why do you use a custom kernel? Do you overclock?
Just asking, because when I first got my tab I must have flashed every ROM and kernel that was out at the time, and found none with less problems, and more stable than the stock 3.2 kernel.
Nothing more than curiosity.

To be honest I'm just trying stuff out to see what all the fuss is about. Both seem to be highly recommended so when i decided to go custom I just went with those two.

I don't believe that exists for android.... I have never heard of such a menu.... What exactly are you trying to access?

It exists for android. For example, the Evo 4G has it: http://www.techkings.org/htc/34489-evo-4g-3g-epst-settings.html
I want to try a different vocoder to see if it improves the call quality.

Well in windows mobile it was extremely easy. The EPST menu allows access to many things. One in particular i was looking for was changing the radio scan interval. If you changed that it wouldnt ping for towers as often thus saving much battery life. On my Touch Pro 2 with sprint, since i was in great service everywhere, i lowed the value and extened my battery life by up to 3 hours. which is a lot lol. I was looking for something like that in android to do the same. But im on a Galaxy S 2 now so i havent even thought of it.

How was it done in WinMo?
Are these settings stored in the ROM or the Radio? If they're stored on the radio, maybe if I change them in WinMo they'll stay even after flashing Android? Or maybe not...
The ability to change the radio scan interval also seems very useful, specially if you live in a zone with great service coverage.

So when I came to the s8, I came from lollipop straight to 7.0. I use autoremote a lot to open things on my computer from my phone and vice versa. I noticed in 7.0, at least on the s8, that clicking a link in Google requires you to select an app to use as default from then on out, whereas on 5.1 it always asked if I didn't select the use by default option...
I haven't looked to heavily because I have a lot going on today, but is there any way to turn off use of default browser app on the S8? Because I'd rather click a link and have it ask me if I want to use the browser or autoremote
Don't think so, you'd have to clear defaults every time.

Thanks for this mate! I didn't realize they finally added this feature back. Thank god, it was sorely missed on my S6E and S7E. I had to use apps like "Better Open With" as a workaround previously.

Hey,
I'm looking for a way to turn on wifi every morning. I've tried different apps like automate but none of them seem to work.
Also I want to launch an app (yeelight, for light alarm in the morning) at a certain time.
Any ideas?
