Hey guys, so my Nexus 4 arrived this afternoon, I love it except for some little things like the not top-notch camera and the display (gotta correct the gammas, no big deal). I don't wanna break it so couple days ago I ordered the Ringke Fusion case because I like the "bumper+clear back" fusion, just love it.
I figured out you can actually customize the background of the case, by cutting out like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJSDTJR0qnM.
Till here it's ok; i'll just get a back protector and cut something out. Problem is, I don't have a back protector nor I wanna get one; i need something else. I wanna download a background, import it in photoshop/gimp/whatever and on another level I wanna put the N4's back cover (just the borders tho, for cutting) with the "Nexus" and the "LG" logo so that when I print the whole thing and cut it I have those logos printed and I don't have to write or cut those.
Problem is, where am I going to get one of those back cover picture, just the borders and the LG and the Nexus logo with needed REAL LIFE proportions? Any ideas on how should I get it?
Thanks

Sure, no biggie.
You just gotta resize an image you want in GIMP (you don't have to be a professional photo editor, I looked up quickly for a tut on the inet) to match the size of the actual phone (I put it on the laptop's screen to measure things out). I then found a Nexus logo image, an LG logo image, and just sticked those three imgs together (no big deal here as well, look for a quick tutorial on the internet) with GIMP. Printed and bam it works.

well im looking for a template so that i can trace and cut for a screen protector.. i know you can purchase screen protectors that fit the hero but i have yet to find one that fits the entire screen ( to the very top of it ) most only cover to the logo at the top fo the screen.
and my wife wants a mirror one. so she bought one ( without my knowlage ) but it needs to be cut to fit ...
Oh ok. Once I get home from work I'll see if I can dig something up (if some hasn't beat me to it).
I can just whip up a black square that's 320x480 for ya... stay tuned.
Here you go. Just print this out and it'll be 320x480 pixels (size of every droid phone from g1 to hero, excluding the newer ones)
I would believe that he's looking for a template covering all the glass...not just the section that is over the screen.

Good work but he is looking for something to cover every inch of the glass. More precisely, there is a little curve at the top that I am pretty sure he wants to cut out exactly so that you can't tell there is a screen protector on.
Not sure if you ever found what you were looking for or if you even still have a hero but i am about to make one. I have a new phone coming moday so i am going to apply tape to old one and cut it out and draw it up in autocad. stay tuned
Edit: Ok here it is. i have also created a new thread to hopefullly have stickied. please search Screen Protector Template (PDF) and vote the thread, thanks.

how about one for the Droid 2?? ive searched high and low cant find one for the life of me
Hello im quite new to this site, and have been looking around for the root to come. but in the mean time i have ordered a new cover and it came today. i have now disassembly'ed my phone and changed the cover, this turned up to be a little difficult. 8 scrues at start and then its just clicking off with some gentle force the rest of the way.
but then i bumped into a little problem.
The touch module itself is actually glued to the front cover and is very difficult to take of.
I did manage to get it of, by using a hairdryer and blowing hot air into the frontcover with the glass touch module. by varming it up the glue got soft and i used a hobby knife to like cut under the glass where the glue is.
u have to be very VERY carefull coz i manage to get a little crack in the glass, coz i didnt heat it enough, i would recommend being 2 person for this, 1 to hold and cut the screen off and 1 to heat the glass at same time. i did it one person and got a little crack innit.
but got it off and mountet it into my new white cover, but the screen still being the black color around, wich actually looks really sleek so its not entirely white in front.
I was really scared that i might had broken the Touch module coz of blowing such heat onto it. and was nervous when turning my phone back up. but it seems that it works perfectly wich was a relief :'D
but i just wanted to post this to people if they were interrested and maybe have thought about changeing cover them selfs..
i my self am not used to disassembly phones this was a first and i think i did pretty good aside from a little crack in the screen glass. ^^
just be carefull and gentle and you can suceed without a screen crack like me its not a big one just a little one u barely notice but still
thanks for reading this and sorry for my english i have pictures that is in the link below just copy and paste in adress

Do you feel that the white case is an original one ?
should have fixed the album since it was set to private but now its public.
i havent really seen the original white cover but the back cover on original black cover you know its kinda rough black. while the white one i got is smooth and blank, it does have the xperia text and sony ericsson logo. but try checkout the pictures they should work.

I mean does the back cover fits perfectly like an original one?
hey bro can ya tell if the white body is original???????
also can the guys at se service centers can get it done for me???
but hey i can still see the black body part in the white one.....was that intentional???
does the phone feel the same as before....i mean b4 changing the the body.......n plz get sum info on the cover??????
which one do you feel is better white or black???
Hi ****nap,
thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Do you allow me to add your pictures to first post in my "Upskirts" & "Disassembly" Thread?
(You find a post in my Signature from where you can jump into)
I'd be happy if you read my guide and add some suggestions.
still dont really know if its original, havent seen the original white and dont know how the original feels. dont think the service center will do it for you, but you check into it. yea the front still has the black part, it was not intentional, but thats how it came out coz of the touch module being black. if u want complete white u will have to buy a touch module that is already white. and it aint cheap

hello all.
just bought a new galaxy tab for the price of $750 here in Baghdad today. it was brought over from UAE and has full Arabic and the best android 2.2 system.
i am extremely happy to have it however the happiness stops to when the spec of dust appeared to my eyes. right under the sticker that comes on the screen appeared a white dot to the very right of the screen. however when i use the unit the although not apparent it looks like a dead pixel rather than a spec of dust because it looks to mix colors. (i would take a picture later and attach it to this post) -- the area i am talking about can be shown here. its on the very top right hand corner of the center image in step 18; http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/3
i am considering tearing the unit apart and blowing some air under the screen this is if the item is dust.. is it easy? i am looking over some videos to take it apart. -- according to the steps from the link above step 18 requires a heat gun and that i am not too good with.
OR
shall i just ignore it?
Any experiences with things like this?
thanks!
[wow a 104 views as of this edit and no replies? hmm]
there was an article that showed the teardown of a tab. They said it took an extream amount of heat to seperate the glass from the screen.
I would send it back to Samsung for replacement or try and ignor it.

+1 for sending it back to Samsung, a device this expensive shouldn't come with any dead pixels! If you open it to try and fix it yourself you'll invalidate your warranty and then will really be stuck with it!!

thanks for the response guys.
that option really isnt valid here where i am. i tried with the shop i bought it from but now i am deciding to just put up with it. oh well.
perhaps those dead / stuck pixel fixers or something...
Try this Pixel Fixer program. I had two stuck pixels on my DroidX when I got it. This fixed it.

Don't give up after one try. It took several attempts over a number of days using Pixel fixer to clear up my stuck pixels.
hey i just made my first custom splash screen not sure if anyone posted this one yet but here it is i installed it via s-off method
Cool. Let me check it out.
Blah. Just saw the extension. My phone can't unzip it. I'll check it out later on today.
Still, keep up the good work!! Tinkering and exploring new projects are always satisfying.
Yea it took me about 30min how to do that first I had to crop the pic on Microsoft paint then I used the create g1 splashcreen program found in the how to create custom splash screen thread then I put that in the hercimg I'm pretty sure that's how u spell it lol then I booted into hboot and it installed I was so stoked when it worked I had a couple others I tried but I didn't crop them right and there were white edges left over from paint but this one came out perfect so good by ugly HTC logo lol

So...I just died a little inside...
What I've foolishly done is dropped my Nexus 7 screen side down onto floorboards and as you can see in the attached picture...something has gone awry. I'm assuming that it's the digitiser that's broken??? - is there anything I can (relatively) easily do with limited knowledge of this kind of stuff (via tutorials?)? Or would I be best replacing the device? When the screen is on, the individual bars change colour, cycling through purple, black, but mostly white. The tablet makes the unlocking sound and I can VERY faintly see some aspects of my home screen.
Any help would be appreciated. Rotten start to the new year.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, if that's of any use...
you could check out Tablet repair shops on Craiglist . They usually fix cell phones and tablets for 10 to 40 bucks. Its worth it.
if you are good with tools you could pop it open your self and see if any cables are messed up, give you a better idea on what you need to replace

I try to repair anything I can, Its usually cheaper and also a good chance to gain experience with this stuff. I cant tell you how many screens ive had to replace on my wifes Iphone haha. As far as tutorials go youtube has a whole bunch of them some are more thorough then others Heres a good one to get ya started. Nexus 7 Tear Down
Here is a written tutorial for removing the screen assembly. Between these two you should have no problems! Nexus 7 screen repair
If it still has warranty, you can copy everything you need off the SD card and get it replaced. You can try sending it to a repair shop, but it might be cheaper to buy a new one.
called asus and they told me that it'll cost $220 to replace the device as they won't repair it. I've copied everything over to my pc and I'll probably have a crack at giving it a tear down and fixing it. otherwise I think I'll upgrade to the 32gb as I've found 16gb to be too restrictive. annoying (for me) that there will be a new model in ~6 months time...

just completed the tear down - my battery took ages to remove due to an insane amount of glue (yay for asus build quality?). was interesting to go through the process, but, sadly, the issue with the digitiser persists. I'm going to do some shopping around and see how much I can get the 32gb model for in store, other wise I may even buy (a grey import) one from kogan.com.
Is the screen actually cracked? I could not make it out from the picture.....If not why could you not just get it sent back as faulty? If there is no physical damage how could they tell? But then again you have opened it now............... Good luck.

No cracks and I thought of this straight after tearing off the security stickers Thing is, two out of the three security stickers I was told to remove in the tear down tutorial were already missing. Also, there were several black (ink/oil?) smudge-y finger prints on the copper shielding when I opened it...hmmm
RIP Nexus 7......
replace!
quicker and cheaper...
repair would cost around 70-80% of a new nexus 7
