HighDefinition Impulse Responses Samples (IRS) for Viper4Android (19 AUGUST 2015) - Android Software Development

HighDefinition Impulse Responses Samples (IRS) for Viper4Android
Final Updates. Enjoy.
From the makers of HighDefinition Sound Engine HDSE
Convolution and Impulse Responses?
Convolution is the process where a single sample of a sound is multiplied by every sample of another sound. It is different from the plain multiplication of two sounds where a single sample of the first sound is multiplied by the corresponding single sample of a second sound.
Impulse Responses or IRs are captured by recording how a space responds to a full range of frequencies (typically 20Hz to 20,000Hz). This is achieved by playing back a burst (impulse) of a full range of frequencies within the space and recording it. For more accurate results it is common to use a sine-sweep across the audible frequency range. The recorded IR is nothing more an audio file that can be imported into a convolution software to recreate the sampled space digitally and finally export to WAV or IRS.

I will try it
Suggestions:
Write more info the all 5 BBEs or name each irs with an unique identifier.
EDIT: If this is the topic for all your irs.
Maybe you can renamt like BSD's IRS to show its yours

Hey op,
did you also want to include instructions for users as well? I had to refer to the viper4android thread to see how I can utilize the irs files

Re: HD IRS 10 Sept 2013
Wow @BSDgeek_Jake, great job. I've been using the BBE-2 sample and it has crystal clear vocals, big bass but not boomy, nice soundstage. The vocals seem to be a bit more up front with BBE-2 as compared to BBE-1. Sounds really good, keep it up :highfive: :good::good:

What is the difference between all 5 variations?
edit: I like the bbe2 most. It'll be good if you can rename the different variations to easily differentiate them. I change irs often for different purpose such as games, music or movie.

would be helpful to know what exactly are the differences between the 5 BBE parameters.

BBE 2 IRS sample
I just have to say again that this IRS sample, BBE 2, has been my new favorite since it was posted. Thank you so much @BSDgeek_Jake. :highfive:

BBE 1 is my Fav... its close to Acoustics. High n Mid Frequency has clear emphasis including applied low pass filter, Low Frequency is controlled boom.
I will be renaming all my IRS to listening flavours... so Stay Tuned

Instructions for DDC (.vdc) profiles:
1. Save the vdc file to <storage>/ViPER4Android/DDC on your device (note by Joe: next to /ViPER4Android/Kernel where IRS files for the convolver function are usually saved)
2. In V4A's configuration menu, select the vdc file at the end of the list of listening devices for ViPER-DDC to use one of these DDC configs.
Instructions for profiles in convolver (.irs) format
From the dropbox link below, choose the irs file with name corresponding to your model of earphone and copy it to <storage>/ViPER4Android/Kernel/ on your device.

(also included are .e-q files that can be used with Electri-Q (a VST plugin) on the PC: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e1yw2w8ahuyf4v7/Electri-Q_(posihfopit)_Install.exe)
Unlabelled old IRS impulses are 44100Hz only, please leave requests if you would like a 48000Hz impulse <-click me for explanation
***Indicates premium tuning obtained from personally auditioning and tune-up
(Profile requests suspended until further notice--will just profile whatever I can get my grubby hands on for these few months :silly: )
You may leave requests for your model of earphones to be added to the DDC collection Please check for the availability of frequency response curves on at least one of the following websites:
en.goldenears.net
www.innerfidelity.com
rinchoi.blogspot.com
www.headphone.com
When requesting, please leave some comment on your opinion of the stock sound of the earphones without effects running, so I can fine tune the IRS to your taste. (the IRS will always adjust towards reference sound so is suitable for everyone with the model of earphone but will be a bit fine tuned to the taste of the one who first requests them) Opinions on the frequency balance (e.g. too midbassy? Too cold (sucked out lower mids) / warm (opposite)? Treble too sharp?) will be particularly helpful.
Also, if requesting for the first time, please leave your requests in this thread instead of pm, so people can see that a request for a certain model has been put out (they may even upvote and thank your request :cyclops and when it was made. I can't promise to take all requests or take them in order but I do try :silly:
Donations policy
I am much busier these days than when I started this thread, with what feels what is going to be two full-time jobs
The waiting list goes like this:
1. Donations given up-front (will need to fall head-over-heels to get yours done But not really recommended as I may not actually be able to make an IRS for the phones you ask for )
2. A pledge for a donation of a specified amount
3. A pledge for a donation of an unspecified amount (but really this should be enough to put you in front of the line, as donors are so few and far between  )
4. The usual applications...
If you do pledge or make a donation please pm me as well as posting in the thread so I would know about it more quickly and get the IRS done :fingers-crossed:
Request "queuing" policy for non-donors
As I fall further behind the queue I am afraid that by the time I fulfil a request, many of the people who requested the irs will have already forgotten about it. Also, each time it takes me considerable effort to find the next person in the queue whose request I can fulfil. So instead of a queue, I will simply take the latest request that can be fulfilled when I have time to make an IRS. Those who have been skipped may contact me again to re-express their interest in obtaining an IRS as many times as you want, but please do so through pm to avoid cluttering this thread Of course, a donation would be a sure way to get an IRS done
If you want your headphones profiled quickly, you may consider making a donation or
try making your own irs :fingers-crossed:
How to combine my headphone correction IRS together with other IRS (such as special effects, bass boost, reverb etc. found on other threads)
Please note that:
Most other IRS files found elsewhere simulate the effect of the labelled item. ie. using HTC One X BeatsAudio.irs your phone will sound like plugging headsets into a HTC One X with BeatsAudio on.
The IRS files found in this thread do NOT do this. What they do is correct for the deviation of the labelled headset from a reference target frequency response. Sort of the "opposite" of what the headphones sound like, actually, so that when the IRS is applied and use the labelled headphone to listen to music the sound should be close to a "reference standard". You can then apply other effects in V4A to the "standard" sound, such as field surround and reverb, and the effects should sound better than before, or you could try using just the convolver and get something like the sound audiophiles shoot for with expensive neutral headphones.
If you don't have any of the headphones listed in the thread, you can still download and try the irs, but again, they do NOT *simulate* the labelled headphones. Instead, if you hit on the irs of a headphone that has similar sound to yours, you may get a good effect.
Other headphone specific tuning settings shared by others:
bobdoblo's settings for the Soundmagic E10
Regarding donations and gifts:
These IRS files take time to create and any donation you make would be greatly appreciated However, donate by paypal does not work for the Asia-Pacific area I'm in (I live in Hong Kong). Thus the "donate to me" button doesn't work. You can however send donations to me in the form of paypal payments directly to [email protected] :fingers-crossed:
Anyone who donates to my account will get expedited headphone irs creation as a matter of course  but if you donate $10 or more, you will receive:
1. Refit service: based on your description of the sound I can continue to tweak the IRS to tailor it specifically to your ears, including customizing resonance peak compensation according to your reports from playing with Sinegen and other tools I will talk about :cyclops:
2. (S4A-01 offer (now out of stock))
A special pair of IEMs that come with their own IRS profile:victory: out of stock due to QC problems with the supplier; only phones that checked out ok will be shipped out. Only 7 out of 20 checked ok

^ Previous model of gift IEMs with IRS included: Sleeper4Android S4A-01
Blurb on S4A-01 ("sold" out)
These IEMs sound wonderful with IRS applied and are an abomination to conventional wisdom in hi-fi that have 100% geek appeal and will turn the world upside down for any audiophile who was closed-minded about digital effects for music listening if they give these a listen, with and then without their custom IRS :cyclops: Basically, I have found a way to profile a pair of headphones without the $$$$$ dummy-head-with-in-ear-microphone and will be applying it to no-name cheap IEMs that have atrocious stock sound but show potential behind their warped frequency response
Pros and cons of the S4A-01
Limitations of the S4A-01
-dollar-store build: while I think the housing itself looks pretty good, the cable and the damping material over the nozzle leaves something to be desired, shall we say But it's sonically a good thing that there's damping at all over the nozzle :good:
-no packaging or accessories: to save on shipping, I shall be putting these directly in envelopes and mailing them as air mail. As far as I know they only come with the one pair of tips shown, so if these don't fit, you have to find something that does.
-isolation and microphonics: as shown in the picture, they are semi-open at the back, and do not isolate outside noises that well. I use a shirt clip with them and microphonics is manageable, but probably above average.
-supported devices only: I'll post EQ and convolver settings for use with the S4A-01 on computers, but you better make sure you are running a computer player (such as foobar2000) or an android with V4A or other supported software if you want to listen to them seriously
Advantages of S4A-01:
-Audiophile WTF-factor: the sound difference before and after applying the V4A is just unreal. The corrected sound is not just "good for a dollar store earphone", but "good", period.
-More Audiophile WTF-factor: with V4A running, the S4A-01 will sound great while practically any other phone plugged into your android will sound atrocious. If you play a song someone is not familiar with, he may conclude that his $$$ pair of phones is having a really bad day and look at them in dismay :cyclops:
-Even more audiophile WTF-factor: for additional WTF-ness, my demo pair of S4A-01 was wired wrong so that the left and right buds are out of phase with each other. This is corrected for in the S4A-01i irs profile. If you're so lucky as to get a phase-inverted pair just like me and load this profile, every other phone plugged into your android will sound plain broken :cyclops:
-potential for improvement: though I've profiled these phones with my own ears using my patent-pending "human spectrum analyzer(tm)", I plan to ship a few pairs of these to Rin Choi, famous headphone reviewer and critic, to measure using real equipment. If and when he posts the results for these phones, I can tune them to the best new Olive-Welti sound tuning curve out there and they may sound even better than they do now
I know this is purely anecdotal to you guys who weren't there, but I prepared these gems at a big headphone meet in Shenzhen, China and representatives from two different audio companies pegged these things at over RMB1000 (around 160USD) in value Which may not sound like much, but they assumed these would be Chinese-made sets selling in China, which gets a substantial markdown compared to overseas sale. And if you knew how much I actually got them for...:laugh::laugh: well me being able to mail them to you for $10 should clue you in to that
3. You get to choose a <$10 IEM in your possession (or that you intend to buy) to be IRS profiled, whether or not measurements are available for the model. I will buy and "measure" the model as soon as I gather enough funds from donations (and have some money left over as actual donations that I can pocket :silly: Alternatively, you can arrange to have your IEMs (IEMs only please; shipping costs for any other kind is too expensive) shipped to me to be analyzed.
This is the Sleeper4Android project: to get terrific sound out of terribly cheap IEMs
Currently planned list of <$10 IEMs:
Philips SHE3580/3590/3595/3500 (IRS already available; 3595 has mic and one button remote)
Panasonic RP-HJE120 (HJC120 should be the same thing with mic and 3 button remote)
Awei ES-Q3 / Q3i (with mic)
-further models can be added to the list with the help of donations, donors can specify models already in their possession or that they plan to buy
List of donors S4A-01 was shipped out to (shipped on 2 August) :victory:

Great! The heights are a bit too quiet, and the very deep bass (sub-bass or whatever) should be some louder. The rest is okay (I never used better in-ears, so can't really say what should be different ).

Yup, saw a couple of those posts. I actually just got mine back from Ety repair a couple of days ago. I have had them for 12 years (red and blue tips) and I recently broke rule number one. Never lend them out. First time and 1/2 day later, I got the call..."but I just put them in my front pocket..." :crying:
Stock sound is very good, flat and neutral, perfect for using V4A to get different styles of music to where you want it go. It sorta the opposite of other IEMs which build in a response so they wow right off the shelf. But your are spot on. Bass needs a bit of a bump and highs slightly sharp. That said, they cant really handle very low bass well. "Clarity" on V4AFX can overwhelm the sound very easily. I also have the S-adapter and that smooths out the highs somewhat. I use the 3 flange eartips and would insert to my eardrum if I could.
Thanks.
Hi Joe, I used the 3580 IRS, it worked great:good:. Can you do one for TDK BA200? Just need slightly more highs and subbass. Thanks.
Edit: never mind

Any chance of the SoundMagic E10 IR, i just bought these mate and they are fantastic!
The quality of build and most importantly the sound is Amazing, they blow the JVC FX3X away even on bass
I really can't praise them enough!

Hey Joe,
I am currently using my SHE3590s with your IRS. I hope you can tweak it a little to give the bass and subbass a little more thump and make mids sound more distinct. Thanks What I don't like about the stock sound (no EQs, no ViperFX, no Bass Booster) is that the bass don't have a thump to it and don't sound real. I hope this helps.
Currently using the UE900 IRS BTW. It's good. Bass has a nice boom but I find that highs are too overpowering and ear piercing. But I can't judge it because it is not meant to be made for the SHE3590

Get the best of S3's sound

Hi,
I am not much of a hard core audiophile and I can settle with almost any sound quality, but I recently bought a decent mid-range IEM, the Sony HM1. So, I wonder if there is any way to be sure that I get the best S3 has to give. I use:
-Sony HM1
-Rocket player (paid version, the one with the unlocked equalizer).
-At least 192bit rated MP3s.
-Volume enhancer mod
So, is there any other mod, program or anything else that can take full advantage of S3's potential, if any? Thanks!

I posted these questions right after I read some pages of that threat and I was just hoping for a medium-sized sum or a small guide with the steps necessary. I will move my question there then, thanks and sorry.
one word. poweramp. no other mods/apps needed. Best audio comes from poweramp. Must be stupid to argue against that.

In all honesty, to get the best sound you need good source and as you rightly did, at least 192kbps audio. But I have numerous songs that sound much better at 320 than 192 and when played back side by side, you hear the diff. My father who is half deaf heard it.
My recommendation for music is simple, highest bitrate you can afford given the storage you have (getting a 64gb Micro SD card remedies that issue quickly, the Samsung model is the best i've use so far), equalisers and volume normalisers are just to flavour the music to your taste, more bass here, a little mid there, or to compensate for a particular bias your headphone may have. I use a Senheisser HD 201 and HD 202. The 201 is flat and pure, the 202 is bassy and wild so i adjust to suit. FYI I'm current using JetAudio Pro with the AM3D Effects set to 40 and 50.
Hope this helps.
Btw, if you just looking for louder, the tablets, Nexus 7 and the like have higher volume outputs on their headphone jacks so be aware of that.

It sure did, thanks! Having high bitrate and a decent IEM, I just wanted to be sure that S3's hardware has no room for improvements, a better kernel or some other tweak.
About Nexus 7, are you sure it has higher output? I have both S3 and Nexus 7 and I just tried it, on the same volume level, S3 is way more louder. Just bear in mind that I used this sound enhancement tweak on S3.

Poweramp, check.
About the other two, could you be more specific? I'm a noob. About the Pure audio, I know that's it's a flashable zip, does it give me after the flashing a app that tweaks the sound? And what about wolfson sound engine, could you please give me a link?
Currently I use googy-max kernel, which enables the wolfson sound engine via STweaks. Would it be better to use something else? Maybe all of these questions have already been answered, but it's very difficult to collect all the info available. Thank you all!

Sure! i use googymax too with the wolfson engine, my settings are: headphone equalizer: Enable WITHOUT saturation Prevention.
EQ Presets: Use graphical equalizer
at the bottom of stweaks i turn on DAC direct and DAC oversampling but leave the others.
Pure audio - flash the zip, make sure that DSP manager isn't installed otherwise it'll do nothing. remove it with titanium backup if you hvae it.
pure audio doesn't give you options to adjust because you don't need it. it won't give you any indication that its running when you're listening to music either... but you'll know if you've done it right
If you do feel the need to adjust eq, then use the eq in Stweaks, or poweramp even if you find it easier.
Hope it helps!

blazzerIRS : IRS - Dolby, Cyberlink - Viper4Android [[email protected]_02_13]

blazzer_IRS : Dolby, Cyberlink Impulse Response Samples
Convolution and Impulse Responses

I don't know the criteria that makes them single core CPU friendly. But they do work on one! I have a WT19i which is single core and they work fine.
Also note that the IRS are less than 1 second in length as recommended for V4A which is for Single Core CPUs.
They are normally in WAV extension. Make sure their duration are not too long, preferably less than 1 second for V4A and less than 5 seconds for V4W.

The Dolby irs sound has too low of a volume to really get the effect. The Cyberlink irs files sound good but could also use an increase in volume but so far those irs files sound really good. This is based on listening to music via headphones.

Actually the IRS should be normalized, which I didn't do (to keep it untouched). Will upload two variations soon!

Mine is the opposite. I have no issues with volume as I've needed to lower my gain to - 20 dba with few others. I really like cyberlink as it is fuller compared to Dolby. I hear very little difference between 1,2,3 versions for Dolby and can't figure out exactly what the difference is. Cyber link, the difference is noticeable. Thank you for this. Very clean sounds with negligible hiss!

Each increment in mode is supposed to give a wider (surround) experience. By my observation it's more pronounced in the normalized IRS.

It will work either way but you can rename the files to irs files so that no music player app will read and play them.

Galaxy S6 andreilux sound with hardwareEqualizer (synapse)!

For all the music enthosiasts and audiophiles I am starting a thread about this amazing mod thanks to Ael kernel 2.8 from Friedrich and co/B].
Andreilux sound has been known for the galaxy S3 which made it from pretty bad to amazing sound.
The galaxy S6 has a good wolfson dac but was very poorly optimized by samsung, this mod really makes your music back to life!
I'm gonna share you guys my settings and small tutorial how to use it:
What you need is:
- Andreilux mod, Flash hacker kernel
- Vipermod (for me personally I only use it for adding more bass, which is incredible combo!)
- Download synapse app from playstore
Personal Eargasm Settings: (keep in mind this is personal, it can differ alot from headset to headset). I also like warm mid's
MAIN EQUALIZER through Synapse => Audio
Band 1 gain: +12db
Band 2 gain: +8db
Band 3 gain: +7db
Band 4 gain: +1db
Band 5 gain: +2db
Band 6 gain: +1db
Band 7 gain: +1db
Band 8 gain: leave it 0
Viper4android:
- Go to options => Ui setting => Set to expert
- Check Enable V4A-FX powered on
- Dont check firequalizer you dont need it and imo it loses some quality when using it.
- Enable VIPER bass: Bass mode natural, Bass Frequency 50hz,
- Bass boost 16.3 HZ => You chose your own it will vary from headphone to headphone, I need alot of bass to compensate my inears I used.
I recommend try these settings with instrumental genres like rock or metal.
Please share your own results if you found better/other ones!
Thanks to @AndreiLux, @friedrich420, @RJTBVK, @Quintz (info), @Mentalmuso (Weta rom) and many other I probably forgot to make this possibe :good:
I can only find AEL Kernel 2.5. Where did you get 2.8 from and is that for only the Edge or is it also for the flat S6?
It's there on echoe forum mate Googled & u will find it
Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk
Kernel is multivariant so it works for both versions g925 and g920. You can download latest kernel easely via the echoe creations app on playstore
I searched their forum but could only find version 2.5. I think someone else said that you have to register on their forum to get it. Thanks @jody2k
EDIT: Found it! Also v2.9 was released today. Testing it with your config on Synapse.
Friedrich give public release of AEL 2.9 also, so its not mandatory to buy the app but it would def help him their monthly expenses of having the forum
I bought it without hesitation as I like to support those who give their time and efforts to our community
I only created the sound interface so people would stop asking for it. The only good thing about it is to be able to tune your left/right equalizer channels differently. Either use the hardware controls alone or keep with Samsung's Adapt Sound.
Frankly a lot of people here are having a lot of placebo - going through the Adapt Sound calibration and enabling the UHQ upsampler will be enough for 95% of the people.

Samsung adapt sound is just horrible imo why would you ever recommend that? Maybe it was an unwilling effect of you but using hardware equalizer is giving much more warmth and "real sound" control directly from the audio chip without any loss of other frequencies when boosting bass and mid's. You should try yourself my friend youll see its not placebo at all.
Damn so many placebo's then past 3/4 years ^^

I actually did the frequency analysis and the frequency calibration to even setup the 8-band equalizer the way it is now, maybe you have some superhuman hearing or vastly different headphones with different impedance but in my opinion Adapt Sound is a much better objective equalizer calibration to make sound actually sound the way it should be.

Yes "sounding the way it should be" isnt that personal too? sounds just boring for me but thats my personal opinion too, I'm here to help people who are not happy with stock sound.
Using the analysis frequency calibration from adapt sound the high's are still sounding too harsh, mid's are recessed and there is little to no bass at all.
I'm having different headsets to test this including low impedance (apple earpods) and high impedance phones like the sennheiser HD 600 and DT770 from beyerdynamic.
The dac op amp is not powerfull enough though to drive high impedance phones for sounding like they should be
If you dont like this combo i dont blame you, and won't force anyone to use it i'm here to help...
Many people seem to like it though.
anyway @AndreiLux i'm not doubting your sense of audioquality but i think we are discussing about 2 different things here:
I want to sound my own music as a "new experience" like sitting on a attraction. trying new things and pushing boundries in a good way without having imbalance between frequencies.
Stock adapt sound will give you indeed "the sound music should be" voiced in a U shaped trend of equalizer which is the "new norm" of voicing I don't like, as many people don't like too.
Thats makes you maybe more a audiophile than i am, I have never been searching for the absolute "correct" sound but more for making music a new FUN experience.
Listening with M50x... Much improved
Thank man.

He was very happy to hear it worked and people are interested ^^.
S6 community on echoerom forum just needed/needs a little boost, for all those who can go register on echoerom forum and give your thanks:good:
Sometimes its as simple as having the ability to customize it as you prefer, hardware eq gives a better result than sw eq. Placebo or not, I want control. It's a good thing.
Is anyone having an issue where the audio eq settings are audibly turning off when you home button out of any app? like music, or spotify, or even synapse
EDIT: it fixed itself after a clean install

Yeah had it once when i plugged in charger and made the charger sound seemned to disable the hardware EQ. Fixed it by unplugging and back plug the jack cable from my headset. But with home button i have not this issue
V3 is out, smooth!!!
For those who give a crap...Have been playing with settings again today, they are are more ear friendly, more balanced.
Can you guys test these out? give some feedback what you think
Keep your bass in viper the same

Band 2 gain: +6db
Band 3 gain: +5db
Band 4 gain: +1db
Band 5 gain: +0db
Band 6 gain: +0db
Band 7 gain: +0db
Band 8 gain: -2db

Wow, that's amazing.
I like the deep feeling of the surround and the balance between clarity and bass (without leaving aside the middle, of course).
I'm testing and I'm loving it.
I've been looking for an IRS surround since my favorite Dolby Surround & Pro Logic & Lfe.irs stopped working on the latest versions of Android.
The latest version comes close to what I want, except for the serious that is "bursting" in my home theater.
You're in the way of happiness, man! Lol
I'll keep my eyes stuck here.

Oh, sorry if sometimes I can not make myself understood. For me, who is not native to the English language and with limited vocabulary, it is difficult to explain subjective things like the sound sensation, but I will try to find a way to clarify things. I will rely on a good understanding and a good translation of Google Translate.
I tested all the versions that you made available so far and the one I liked the most was the last one (test 41 Stereo.wav), but in my HT the bass became very "deep" and in the parts that the lower frequencies predominate there is an effect like if the middle and the highs disappeared. I tested with my favorite musical styles, which by themselves already have many bass but require clarity too (Soul, Black, Hip-hop, etc). Perhaps because of the style I usually listen to I prefer the surround effects, which gives me a good sense of depth coupled with a balanced bass and clarity.
I hope I have contributed and managed to be clear!
Keep up your work, dude. It really is very good!

If the the mids and highs are disappearing when there is bass then you should set your output gain lower. Thank you for responding!

This was also my first export at 32bit audio. Not sure how needed 16bit is.
Locker ID/Beta link has been updated to "test 42 Stereo"! Locker beta no longer needs you to set the Output Gain down 26db. Enjoy the best of audio!
I think Locker test 42 stereo is ready to be a release. Welcome to Locker v1.1!
Locker: Oracle test 44 Stereo is in testing. Once I can verify volume I'm going to set it to release.
Took me to long to realize it but 32bit exports prove unreliable. Going back to 16 bit audio.
Locker: Oracle v1.0 released. Enjoy balance!
I'll give these a test later on.
Gotta switch to a viper compatible version of Dolby before I can use convolvers again.

Introducing Locker: Home!
Based on Locker: Oracle and a bass note captured from my PC's tiny, tiny speakers to amazingly create enjoyable and hitting bass! Sounds unlikely but trust me you'll love it.
