I bought the phone at quite a good bargain 2 months ago. It was meant to be used by my wife, but she decided to keep the Note2 she was using. So I then decided to sell it off, but still with no luck.
Just today, my wife happened to talk about the phone with her sister, and her husband overheard the conversation and went on to join the conv, and he brought up something that is very troubling to me.
He said that there's a chance my S4 is a fake product or a clone as he has heard a similar story from a friend of his who had been scammed with a clone S4.
That bugs me a lot, and I have been googling for more information about it but cannot find certain things.
My galaxy s4 is still in a sealed box. I bought it in Malaysia 2 months ago at RM1899 off-contract. It has a sticker of e-register on the front, a blue seal sticker on 2 sides (top and left) and a white sticker saying distribution by Samsung Malaysia Electronics on the right, and another white sticker at the bottom with serial number on it.
Without opening it, is there any way for sure to know that I have purchased a genuine S4?
I don't intend to open the box, and still want to sell it off, so keeping it sealed in a box is a better option for me.
Thanks in advance.

Box should have info like MEID and serial number
Is the IMEI number visible on the box? If so check it out at the site below. If legit it should bring up the correct details.

As for galaxy s4 in Malaysia, the one with the blue e-warranty sticker on the top right/left of the box indicate that it was original set.

I did, and it gave me the correct details. It is an i9500 octacore S4, but I'm still unsure. Why? Reason has got to do with the reply under the quote below.

I was told that the sticker does indicate an original set, but from the story told by my brother in law, his friend also bought a set with such sticker on the box, and he still got a fake one :S

Two things will tell you:
CPU Z and the TW dialer codes. The fakes don't have the correct processors and the Samsung dialer codes don't work on fakes.

True. I did read about this somewhere else. However, as I stated earlier, I want to keep it mint in the box so I can sell it. I have no intention of using it for myself.
That's why I was inquiring for clues to know whether it's genuine or not from just the packaging.
Below I have attached a picture of the packaging. Maybe that can help shed some lights.

All you guys with suspicious phones. Assuming that only Samsung has AMOLED (OLED) displays - go in pitch dark room (no light) and restart your phones. If the black part of the screen is really 100% dark without light bleed, you have genuine Galaxy S4 phone (as all LCD will bleed light and the black is greyish). If the black part is not perfect - it's fake, because there's no S3/S4 with LCD display.

Your phone is a genuine S4 GT I9505
Lucky man!
Hi all, would some be able to tell me if the device is legit/real?
CPU-Z screenshots are attached...
All looks real to me but when I checked the IMEI on imei.info it showed Nokia 6300!?!?!
I've used the site couple of times already and showed accurate results (including my S2)... is it reliable?
Many thanks,

Checking Websites *NOT* Enough
--> I traded my HTC One for a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with someone through Craigslist. Unfortunately, I was so excited to get the phone I only used imei-dot-info to verify the phone's authenticity and checkesnfree-dot-com to see if the phone was blacklisted.
Results from both sites were a "go" so I did the trade.
With T-mobile (or any carrier) I knew I wouldn't get 4G or LTE speeds with this model phone, which was fine. However, it was impossible for me to get off EDGE (pure H3LL after having LTE with the HTC).
Did the research I should have done before doing the trade and found out at least one easy way to ID a fake i9500: Check the phone's serial number. It shouldn't be "123456789ABCDEF" - obvious enough, if you know where to look. If it is you absolutely have a fake.
They may get smarter and this not work to check the i9500's, but for now it's good enough.
POINT: Don't be an idiot like me and fail to do your research first . Checking a couple websites isn't enough.

What should I be looking for under "about phone," exactly?
I know "about phone" will give you the model number, but couldn't a fake Note list a fake model number as well? All they would have to do is have it say "GT-N7000" under model number, right?
Thanks again for weighing in!

But if it is rooted and running a ROM, which I believe this one is (some ICS rom), then won't it just display the custom ROM info under "Build number?"
At least, that is the way it is with my current S2. Under "Build number" it says SHOstock Rom v1.9.4.
EDIT: Just looked at the ad again--it doesn't say the phone is running a custom ROM, just that it is running the latest version of ICS ... What build number would that be?
Here is the ad, with photos, in case that helps ...

Take the battery cover off, remove the battery. It will say GT N7000. But that looks legit.
It looks like he's running a Miui of some sort by the lock screen.
Personally the easiest way to spot a fake is to check the camera...most replica phones won't even sport a 8mp camera and hd video recording. After checking the 'About' in the settings, your best bet would be to check the cam. Check the cam's menu,photo/video resolution/quality.
Thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions! They're very much appreciated and I feel a lot more confident going to meet with this guy today. Hopefully I'll be joining the Note family ....

the real one has the battery charging input near the home button, the fake one battery charging slot is next to audio 3.55mm hole.
you may also closely examine the box, any bar coding, manufacturing info.Remove the back cover examine the sticker under the batteryMatch the IMEI, *#06# to the sticker, and to label on box.Use some web-based IMEI look up sites to verify the IMEI matches the model.
buy from a geniune samsung authorise dealer.

There are many imei checking sites.. Get the imei and give a search. It will give you the manufacture info in a sec...
Build quality is also a thing, Only Geniune Note will feel solid in hand without any quickie noise...
A fake won't have an spen if a stylus is there then either will that work or multi touch pinch etc. Will but if both work then it's genuine.
Hi, I just bought a Note 3 off eBay, it was listed as the AT&T variant of the Note 3. I received the phone earlier today and the 1st thing I did was went straight to the settings to see if everything was up to par.
In settings under about device it says its running 4.4 and the model number is SM-N9006. I did a quick Google search and came up with mixed results, some said it was the Chinese version of the Note 3 and some said it was a Note 3 clone.
I did a benchmark test and it doesnt look like the hardware is what its suppose to be, it actually listed it in the rankings as below the S3.
Any feedback would be great, I do have a 14 day return on this. Thanks a lot everyone.

Don't worry about spelling mistakes there are a few through the menus. Has anyone ever noticed the equalizer spelt equaliser in the music menu? There are a few you just have to look. But if your getting antutu scores on par or lower than an S3 then you have the mediate mtk processor and it is a fake for sure.

Well good luck and better check it twice next time
Even though it is a fake, and you would expect sub-standard - what are the differences? Is it a good phone still?
I ask because I work with Cisco equipment. There was reports of fakes (Cisco) floating around and it was difficult to spot, apparently they are just as good and are made in the same factory... so in this case the only time I would care about a fake is if I needed to return to warranty.
EDIT: just been reminded that fake products are illegal. - so this is why they're a problem.

I know, what you mean, thats what I also thought. But as you can see in the pictures (in my first post) i can not handle it with korean letters .
As "gee2012" told me i should check deeper, I did it.
e.g.: With CPU-Z i could see, its not a quad-core processor, only 1,4 GB (internal SD-card), its a MT-65xx device... a.s.o.
The other point is s/n & IMEI a.s.o. because, I think if these devices become more distributed they will be suspended/ "network disabled" (who knows?).
&& the other point is (important), I CAN NOT INSTALL CM
But I have also good News: I have my money back, he was surprised about, what i had to say.
Finally, i must check now his and his girlfriend's new Cellphone .
Sometimes it's like this: happy to see a real new device and trusting (in something) and a bit blind ....
Be sure, in future it will not happend to me again, sure!
THX for the condolence
Yours

You need to flash it with a scatterfile, using the Chinese smartphone tool. Do some Google searching and you'll find it. It flashes the file while it's off and plugged into the computer. The biggest problem is finding the right scatter file for the phone.
Warning!! I just came across this at work when my co-worker asked me to set up his phone. I realized something was wrong when I saw the screen and size of this note 4. I decided to show it off for those who is considering picking up one from ebay or Craigslist. See the comparison from a real note 4 and see for yourself. There's no real difference w/ the software but the hardware might be a concern since the battery(charger) is not Original it might blow-up or melt. The fake one is really flaky and has weird random vibration and I would not recommend using it at ALL!!
As far as I can tell, that's an N910F, which is the Note 4 for most of Europe (and I believe is Exynos based) so it's not fake, just not US market.

I saw that, but it's possible for someone to paint a device. That doesn't mean it's fake.
Now the CPU showing up as a Mediatek is suspect, but still not conclusive I don't think as software can be wrong. Regardless, the buyer didn't get what they thought they were getting.
Yea, more and more fakes are popping up. I just remember watching this video where he bought a fake. There will always be a good counterfeit and an even better one.
Testing Wacom digitizer is probably one of better tests. Knocks off using much cheaper digitizer and button on pen doesnt work.

IT'S UTTER CRAP!!! The response time is slow...definitely not as a real note 4. The screen is flaky and you need to press hard or couple of time to get any response from the LCD. Also, I noticed it heated up when I put in the charger. Wouldn't trust this crap charging on my night stand.

Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. People are awful and they'll do anything for a buck, including preying on people's innocence.
We still sell these at my work whenever we get them in, but we put it in big bold letters in the auction- this is a clone, not a real Samsung phone- just so people know exactly what they're buying.
I came across one too. The S-Pen, the thin battery, the light/low-volt charger was a quick way for me to notice some thing was not right.
On the OP picture of the back, you can also tell the heart rate sensor looks different.

I'm sure many of these are sold on the run. Like off the street and craigslist. They'll run away with your money.
Someone tried this on my girlfriend. I ended up beating the shiit out of him than i threw the note in a puddle. Lol got me so heated.
Wow, that's crazy. That's not a clone, that's a counterfeit! ?
And I'd say 99% of people (buyers) would never know it was not authentic!
You would have to be phone savvy to realize it wasn't genuine. ??
To me the biggest giveaway for fake Galaxy phones is always the screen.
Amoled screens are always dark looking when the phone is turned off. If the screen isn't dark (almost pitch black) when turned off 9/10 times it is a fake or possibly a real one Galaxy that could of had screen damage and was replaced with a fake screen.
Check the side by side pic comparison the OP posted.

Hello
i just bought new SM G900F phone from ali express
well almost everything look good, im doing some bencmark testing and its seems original phone.
every time i get score between 42000-46000 on my s5 with diffrent roms.
tuday i used CPU-Z to check if the hardware is original or its may be fake, im posting here my results.
is it possible that my Galaxy s5 has 2720mb ram???
i'ts show this hardware info on every app, also in antutu.
the big question, REAL OR FAKE?
Apart from the RAM, every other spec from your screenshots are identical to my G900F
Not sure where the apps read specs from, maybe build.prop has been edited?
Factory reset it?

already did, even burned new software over ODIN, original Samsung firmware to be sure.
after that it did 2 OTA updates.
Maybe you got a test model (Engineering sample) by mistake, maybe Samsung were looking at putting 3GB in the S5, and that phone could well be one of their test models
Lucky guy if that's true
I use this, which comes with a widget that you can enable to show available RAM
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.taskmanager&hl=en_GB
Install that, enable the widget, in settings tell it to show RAM on the widget, see what it says
My best is around 800MB free - if you really do have an extra 1GB, it should show well over 1GB free

Under the battery, which model is written there, G900F ?
i know that there a few test/demo samples which are G900F's but marked as G900X.

its say its refurbish... (the S\N does not match the Manufacturing Date.)
anyway, i installed some roms today, still 3GB ram
my knox is 0X1 (2) - what does the 2 meaning?
i guess its original galaxy s5 because i succeeded to install some galaxy s5 roms, if it was a fake i guess it would brick because the HW is not the same or something...

Then it could be that you have the LTE-A Model, but on the other hand, it cannot be because the LTE-A has as model number "SM-G901F".
