Ok so I searched and can't find anyone with this same problem. I was trying to update from an older version of cwm to cwm touch. It says it flashed succesfully ect ect. When I boot into recovery though I get what looks like some white staticky lines and the tablet continually vibrates and its seems stuck on that. I am able to power down and get into current rom though. But obviously unable to flash a new rom. What gives? I also tried flashing to twrp with gapps but that didn't work for me either.

No problem, I moved it
One of things offhand with your issue.
Which bootloader are you using? It sounds like you are on the old HC bootloader. This might explain your issue.
Which version CWM did you have before?
MD
Thanks for taking care of that for me.
I'm not a total noob, but I'm not exactly sure which bootloader I used. If your able to tell me how to check I could do that.
Sadly, I can't remember which cwm version I was using. It was awhile back so I have no clue. Sorry I'm not much of a help to you or myself. If I had to take a wild guess, I think it was in the early 5's.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Ahh! Found it. Bootloader v3.01
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Like I said earlier, I was still able to get my current rom running. I opened up acer recovery and installed twrp with no problem and I am currently flashing a different rom. I will check back in a little bit and let you know how it goes.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
meh...Ok so I got twrp installed. I wipe and wipe and wipe ans then flash rom. It says it was successfully installed. When I tap reboot I get a black screen that says acer in the center, but nothing seems to be happening. I'm assuming this is what people are referring to when the say its stuck on boot screen. I have no clue how to fix it.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, 3.01 bootloader.
The problem is, you need to be on the ICS V8 bootloader. Those roms and recent CWM's need the ICS version bootloader.
I guess I shouldnt ask if you have your UID number? Cause you will need it. If you did some CWM's, it may be in the recovery files. If not, it's going to be a pain.
Try wiping again in TWRP, only this time, install a HC based rom.
MD
How do o go about finding the UID number in the recovery files?

Well, this will depend on which version of CWM you were using when you did backups.
Recoveries are kept on EXT SD, usually for example in the Clockwork folder. But, it depends which version created what. More newer versions create a UID.txt file. But it just depends on if you did any backups with some of the newer versions.
If you don't see the txt file, well, it's not good. All is not lost though.
It's possible you can install one of the ICS updates from within TWRP, if TWRP you have is able to install them.
That's why I asked if you were able to install a HC based rom.
You also may want to try finding one of the older versions of CWM, and try installing it through TWRP.
I downloaded an HC rom and placed it on root of sd. When I boat onto twrp I don't see the zip file. Not quite sure why though

Flash the v8 bootloader if u want a jb rom. Civato has a sticky in the dev forum you'll need and check the guides in my sign if u need more info how to go about it. The v8 will also flash a custom recovery at the same time....and have yr jb rom on yr sdcard ready to flash
I was wondering is it possible for a phone to hard brick from recovery from possible virus? I rooted and installed rome on my and my girlfriends phone with no issues at all i update mine seems like daily lol " A problem i got" anyway.... I rooted and installed a rom on my friends Sprint s3 with cwm (not touch) and Wicked Rom (The Latest) using some method and Hard Bricked it but it was crazy cuz in recovery it would scroll up and down on its own and select by it self i installed stock rom and reboot well full wipe and such. What could cause cwm to act in such a way? The side rockers seem to be fine. The power as well.... Anyone have an idea?Do you think a virus could cause that? He watches a lot on net porn so i was wondering.

I can't really see a phone getting a "virus" in recovery. I'm thinking either he's using a recovery for a similar device, but not his, or there is data corruption.
as for it acting weird could also be failing hardware
Seems like the recovery is messed up. Go back to an older fully functioning recovery.

If for the sprint gs3 MOAR is an awesome ROM that is stable as heck and very customizable.
But strictly for stability I would go with the latest stock rooted ROM

Hello,
Yesterday an update came up on my screen, I clicked "Install Now"
The phone restarted into CWM.
I am rooted ofcourse, and I'm really scared for my phone,
Is there anything to be done?
Which phone do you have?
Your phone is rooted, do you have a stock or custom ROM?
You should provide a little more information so people can help you.

The only thing you probably have to worry about is the data on your device since it is possible you have to wipe it. No worries on bricked device.

No. But it looks like you flashed a borked file. Maybe the CM you installed has a wrong MD5, or you might have flashed a CM that's for a different G2. Either way, you can either push a new ROM zip into your phone to flash, or KDZ back to stock like the guy above me said. Good luck!
And don't worry, your phone is completely fine. But this should be a lesson to always perform a backup before ANY ROM flashing.

What I'd like to know is how did you get CWM in the first place? I've tried for a couple of hours with ROM Manager and the D802 is not supported even though it claims it is. All I get is the red triangle on top of the green android bot and what looks like 2.x CWM. Not sure since I'm new. But it only has about 5 options. No MOUNT, NO ADVANCED, Looks unsuitable for flashing a ROM. I saw this version the very first time I flashed a phone and I soft bricked the phone. It was a Nexus 4. I recovered but I'm not taking any chances and messing with that again. The only way I recovered was using Wugfresh. I need something like Wugfresh for my D802 where I can take those risk. I'm angry because I can't flash anything now. I've got 327 apps to get installed. No one wants to do that manually. It is really inconceivable that this phone which is still arguably the best in the world after 6 months is not supported the way it should be with recovery. Any help in getting CWM working would be greatly appreciated.

That won't work because you can't even get to the menus to install the zip. That the whole problem. You can't really do anything because it basically hangs up with the red triangle. With the number of people having this problem and how great a phone this is you'd figure this problem would not even exist. Here's a screen shot of the problem everybody is having.

I'm new so don't know much. My understanding is you can't flash anything without being in recovery, right? Look at busted25's post. I'm not risking anything that is not concrete. Much as I like to tinker around I accomplish nothing if I end up with a brick. On my Nexus I could risk everything and because I had Wugfresh. No such thing. Well the exploit we were using to install recovery/Loki was patched in kk so currently if you want recovery it's the same procedure for all devices downgrade to 4.2(first firmware available) root install recovery and depending on your device I can link you a modified kk that uses the aboot from 4.2 plus modified kk kernel to boot to kk while retaining root/recovery

I don't know if I have the skills to pull that off. I could wind up like busted25 and all the others who bricked. I think my best option might be to sell it very cheap quickly and order a new one and never upgrade. I'll take the hit. Phone is less than a week old. One thing I'm not understanding though is I'm seeing only kitkat custom roms for this phone out there. That's why I thought it was ok to upgrade. I didn't see any 4.2.2. Everybody who flashed the custom roms must have been fairly or very skilled. One thing that made me upset is ROM Manager advertised recovery for this phone that was bogus. I even paid for the touch version and got nothing and no email reply
So in these past few months, I've messed around with my phone a couple of times and a bunch of stuff happened, and I was unable to enter recovery mode. But now, for some odd reason, I just can! So I guess its time for me to flash a Custom ROM since I've had such poor battery life after rooting my phone (thanks to towelroot) and a bunch of other issues.
Do you think I should wait for an Android 5 Custom ROM or install an already existing ROM like CM11? I REALLY do love the Lollipop look, but I've been put under the impression that it's easy to switch from ROM to ROM, so is it just better to go to CM11 now and switch to a Lollipop ROM later on, when it's fully developed?
Thank you!

You can install CM11 now and when Lollipop is released, I'm sure that CM brings an update with the Android 5.0 build
And Lollipop will be released for the S4 in the next year, I guess, so lot of time since then.

is the cyanogenmod easy install reliable? like the one on the website, is that applicable for the 19505?
do i just click on the get started button and just go on from there? or do i have to download a specific build for the 19505?
additionally, do i have to do a nandroid backup before doing this, and then restore again after its done?
also, has there been any problems with that? thank you!

Okay, first of all, you have to do backups everytime when you flash custom firmware. I recommend you to make a Nandroid backup and Titanium backup.
But when you install a custom rom for example, it doesn't make sense to restore the nandroid backup afterwards. Because than you restore the previous rom again. Nandroid is a complete system backup. This is just for the case when something goes totally wrong.
You have to read the installation introductions and follow them, than you are safe

No, for restoring apps and settings you can use Titanium backup but be careful it is difficult to restore Touchwiz system apps on AOSP rom like Cyanogenmod. This might cause trouble and won't work.

Yeah you can select single apps you want to backup with Titanium. You can save contacts by copying them to external sd card if you have one. Go to contacts-settings-import/export contacs. That's all. Or you download backup software from playstore but I never testet them.

i just found it through researching ahaha, but thank you!
i'll be flashing it once my phone is fully charged
so just to get this straight::
1) make a back up with CWM and Titanium
2) use the cm installer
3) reinstall all Titanium backups and apps from google play store
is that the usual order? thanks!

1) make a back up with CWM and Titanium
2) use the cm installer
3) reinstall all Titanium backups and apps from google play store
is that the usual order? thanks!

You're right, this could be. I never tried the installer ^^
I do a fullwipe also after flashing the rom. You don't have to but I do it to avoid issues.

Every time i try install a ROM it flashes fine until i try to reboot... Then it gets stuck on the boot logo. I've formatted to EXT4 but im not sure if i did it the right way... Can you guys help me please, i don't want to buy a new phone yet and i need my phone in a few days when we go to the cabin.
Did you flash the stock kitkat ROM using fastboot.

If you didn't then try it.
Once you retrieve back to stock, you can flash a custom recovery. And try any other custom ROMs.

I think more people will be able to help if you give more information as to what you have tried and also something along the way of the type/version of the custom recovery you have installed etc.
