Hey guys,
atm I have a problem where flashing AOSP based ROMs causes some issues.
Firstly I have no boot animation with any AOSP ROM. Secondly I have no network connection, neither with nor without SIM pin. Thirdly sometimes Camera isn't connecting when opening the Camera app.
I'm using PhilZ touch 5.11.2.
TouchWiz based ROMs work without any problems.
So what can I do now to fix those issues? I have no explination on them.
Boot anmation is because of phiz recovery.
Change the recovery re-flash rom u will see boot animation.
For other 2 probs not sure.

It's the recovery. It doesn't flash the ROM correctly. Use the standard CWM and you'll be good. Philz is a GREAT recovery, but it's just not ready for the S4 yet, IMO.
Just a tip: make a backup of your EFS folder ASAP. You'll find all you need here to do it. You don't want to screw that up, because if you do, you lose your IMEI and network connectivity, and your S4 will be a $600 media player and you'll not be able to make calls on it ever again.
Thanks for the help. I changed to CWM and I'll try flashing the ROM again. I'll do an EFS backup as soon as my system is running again.
Use Philz Recovery 5.10.0
The latest few versions of Philz Recovery are quite buggy. The best one so far is 5.10.0
nah I probably won't go back to PhilZ. The features you get aren't worth the problems I could experience again..

Hey guys,
I rooted my Fascinate successfully, then I installed Titanium Backup.
On TB, I tried 'force uninstalling' VZW Apps.
Then, my Fascinate crashed, and now it boots into recovery.
On recovery, I can't do anything. I'm planning to reset my Fascinate.
Do I need to re-flash CwM Recovery to reset?
Also, do I keep Superuser when I reset?
Android version: 2.3.5
Thanks.
No need to flash again. Since you are still on gingerbread you can use 3 finger method to get into cwm (hold power volume up and down to turn on the phone until the Samsung screen flashes)
You probably don't even have to flash a new rom and can just do a full user data wipe. The caveat to that would be if you tried to push the bad apk as a system app.

Edit: I assumed you had flashed cwm to start since you said reflash but nowhere do you state that you actually have. In any case, try 3 finger. If you end up in cwm you arr golden. If its Samsung recovery then flash cwm.
Oh, and ALL decent roms come pre rooted so don't worry about that. And there's really no reason to use the Samsung stock from as both superclean and geewiz are based on it and include additional fixes and features not found in stock
Still some problems
Hey, thanks for the advice. I think I need to reflash.
Also, I have used the recovery system before.
Hi guys i recently rooted my nexus 7 and then i tried to download a custom rom (i think it was Cyanogen Mod 10.1 4.2.2 but i`m not sure and now it`s stuck on cyanogen mod logo and then it says unfortunately setup wizard has stopped...i am a noob so could you explain to me how to fix this ?(my PC doesn`t recognizes it )

You also need to install the Google Apps package.
That won't help. It is not required to install for a working ROM. You only need Gapps if you want the Google apps like the play store. It sounds like a bad flash or a bad download. Try to reflash through recovery, if that doesn't work, boot into recovery and mount your tablet. I don't know what recovery you are on, so i can't give you info on how to do that.

I don't use CyanogenMod but sometimes flashing a patch is also need afterwards. Nonetheless, before continuing with experimenting different ROMs, it would be wise to flash back to stock then make a Nandroid backup on your device, one on your PC and one in the cloud. Installing MultiRom is also highly recommended.
My guess is that someone didn't factory reset in recovery before flashing.

Manually boot into recovery by holding power and volume up and volume down at same time. Then when you see the around laying down select recovery with volume key. Try restoring a backup or flashing another rom in recovery.

Coming from iphone, it is quite different when it comes to flashing.
1.) While rebooting to recovery mode, it does not boot into TWRP. Instead it goes into manual mode.. Menu is similar to rom manager where you use the side buttons and power to navigate. How do I get into TWRP?
2.) Are there any roms that support the new s4 features such as air gestures?
3.) Other than removing bloatware, are there any good features for flashing to a custom rom? I saw one I like which was app2sd. I know some roms just have bare minimum and it's purpose is just to run faster than the stock os.
4.) Currently running the stock 4.2.2 on my s4, you guys recommend any roms for me to try out? What are the popular ones out right now?

Hey there, i just got my s4 so i havent done much with it yet, but very familiar with samsung devices so lets see if i can help.
1. TWRP has to be installed. Have you read the guides? TWRP is not default recovery, and it sounds to me like you havent made that step. Search the forums for guides and all the tools you need. Just remember, there is always a risk of soft/hard bricking.
2. Most all TW based roms should support/include the samsung features you are referring too. That being said you wont get those features in roms that arent TW based.
3. Removing bloatware, custom kernels that allow for OC/UV, different looks to the UI, there are a very large number of reasons to flash a custom rom, just remember, you will usually have to sacrifice something to gain something else, but not always. If you want a stripped out rom that runs smoother and faster than stock, you will probably lose TW and all the features that go with it.
4. You really just have to find one you like.

If you're new to Android flashing and whatnot, I would advise a simple TW based ROM that's de-bloated at least to start off with. I'd recommend Mint Jelly (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2312001) which is a nice, Touchwiz based ROM, but includes the NottachXposed framework for customization and KTweaker if you want to play with the kernel settings a bit. It has all Samsung apps included but the AT&T ones removed (can be re-downloaded from google play)
I would suggest trying the GoldenEye ROM with the Domination theme, it's probably as close to stock AOSP as you can get while keeping your TW features. I honestly can't see any reason to change ROMs ever again since I've been on this combo.
Both roms are very good starters.
OP-sounds as if you do not have any recovery installed.

Just installed it through Goomanger. You all receive a Thank! I am currently browsing the roms recommended here and comparing it. Looking forward to learning more about roms.
Edit: While going into recovery, it just hangs at the Teamwin logo. Anyone know what's causing this?

That is the recovery screen, you are properly rooted correct? I would pull the battery for 5min, and then try to get back into recovery.
many roms can run for you, once you accomplish getting into recovery. first thing you should do is do a complete backup in recovery, so that will be out of the way. Then try other roms.

Yes, if by properly rooted you mean using motochopper to root my phone. I am just trying to access my recovery screen, but it just hangs there. I am trying to get my first nandroid backup and hopefully flash it. I am still on my stock OS, have not flashed my phone yet.

You might try reinstalling your customer recovery if this is happening consistently.

Yup, I'm good. Got my Nandroid and EFS backups!
Thanks again!
Hi guys, I rooted my phone again then I made a backup with a temporary clockworkmod then I flashed chobits digitalis and didn't like it too much so I decided to restore my backup,I did then I was stuck at the splash screen saying galaxy y,i reflashed chobits and I'm typing from it now,I don't want to use odin and i want to be able to go back to stock and unroot anytime when needed because i still have 1 more year warranty,so can I restore my backup somehow? Maybe trough the advanced restore? But you guys need to tell me what to choose there cuz I'm a noob, and should I change chobits with something else? I want a rom with a ics/jelly bean or stock-ish look and bunch of fixes and tweaks so I don't need to mess with it that is compatible with Merruk kernel,oh and I don't want to risk bricking my phone because I'm using it as a network adapter for all my computers and I use it alot instead of the computer so I really want to have it working consistently

Hi all =)
Since I got my GT-i9505 I've been experimenting with different Roms. Of course, this can't be done without a good recovery.
When I started, I used i9505 TWRP 2.6.0.0 and was really happy with it. But after flashing a few Roms, I had more and more errors/bugs and decided to try another recovery.
I'm now using CWM based recovery 6.0.3.2 for i9505 and it works nicely. But when I tried to flash CM 10.2 i had a "Status 7" error and my device suddenly rebooted and now I am concerned that it might happen again.
So now I'm wondering, which is the most reliable recovery for our GT-i9505? And what is the difference between the CWM based Recovery and the one from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager ? The "original" recovery seems to be more up to date, but can I use my backups with it, too?

Hi,
None of the recoveries are 100% yet.
Look HERE
I use PhilZ.
Most of the time it works.
Some ROMS will give me error status 7.
Just wipe clean and flash again.
Sometimes , it has taken 3 goes to get a ROM to load.

Hi there =)
Okay, good to know. I was just wondering if there is something like the best recovery since all seem to have their little bugs and errors.
And since I soft bricked my device last week, I just want to be super careful now.

Hi,
There is no "Best".
Otherwise everyone would be using it.
You will not brick your phone installing any of these recoveries.
