[Q] Firmware encountered an issue! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Alright I have a S4 I-337 MF3 that I rooted and tried to get my sim unlock code through some crazy way online. Where the issue started was I right clicked on system in the file explorer and changed the permissions to RW and took off the Execute. After that It really messed up and went into a boot loop with the Samsung/unlock screen. I tried to re flash the phone through kies and now it won't do that (Not even through emergency recovery), Stops and says on the last line in red: SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 2 , Binary : 1. Will not boot into recovery. only download mode.
PLEASE HELP!

This is why you really need to read and research before attempting things
There is currently no way to return tk stock on mf3 if you mess up with something. No kies no odin...kies doesnt even have mf3 yet, and we dont have a firmware leak for odin yet...the new bootloader in mf3 blocks older versions of being flashed hence your error"check fail: fused : 2 , Binary : 1"

Yes! That did get me past my Error triangle to the bootloader, but it just says Samsung and the unlock symbol and loops into the normal recovery. doesn't actually load up.

Yes I did. Nothing. and Cache.

Update:
Just letting you guys know that Samsung will repair the phone for free if it is in the 12 months since the purchase date. They also pay the shipping once you call and place a service order. Guess I'll use my get out of jail free card and restart when it gets back.

[Q] Note 3 N900W8 soft bricked, backup not working.. can't find a compatible firmware

I'm with Bell (Canada.) I was hesitant to root this device as it's a pretty significant investment, but I have rooted my original note with few issues, so I figured it should work as long as I follow every step carefully. Well unfortunately, upon first trying to root it, apps would start updating right at bootup, and SuperSU continuously crashed. So I decided I was just going to restore it to my original state and be done with it for now. Nope. Once I did this, the phone would just enter a boot cycle. (How does restoring my backup place me into a boot cycle?)
The only SM-N900W8 firmware downloads I can find are for south american regions... I have tried one of them and it failed to install. I am a bit panicked at the moment. Is there some crucial step I'm missing here?

If you restored through TWRP there is a good chance that you are softbricked. There are restoring issues that mess with the system partition.
Update: I was able to flash the tar file from inside the zip of mexican firmware through odin (I was trying to install the zip through TWRM before... perhaps you need to install stock firmwares through odin? It's been a while.)

You know what.. Me being a dumbass tried again to root it after restoring it to the mexican firmware, and now I have the same problem. And now the restore isn't working this time. Why did it work once and not again? Who knows? I just keep trying to factory reset and reflash the firmware, but I'm getting nothing but bootloops.
Could this be a Knox created problem? The reason I say this is you were able to restore a "new" (unknown to Knox) firmware, but it failed on the second time (as it is now no longer newer). I wonder if you were able to find a firmware with a later number (ex ...H2 rather than ...H1) it would install?

I was trying the Peru one for a while, but it kept hanging up during the bootup. The message was in a foreign language, but I'm assuming it was "initializing". It would initialize for about 3 minutes then an error message would pop up saying something is not responding.

Well I have been trying to. When I flash the firmware in odin, it reinstalls the stock recovery mod. Right after flashing firmware, it won't go into recovery mode on the first boot (first does some android robot install thing, then boots up). I attempted to install the TWRP recovery directly after the firmware, and then booting directly into recovery to factory reset, but I'm still getting a boot loop.

Softbricked after OTA update

I am getting the message in ODIN when I try to power my phone on:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & try again.
It happened after I tried to "reroot" my phone after the OTA update from yesterday. I was using Root De La Vega. I must have done something wrong. After about 20 seconds of the recovery process it gave me an error: secure check fail : cache at the last line under the paragraph in the upper left hand corner. Now my phone just sits in ODIN with the above error message. Is there a way to recover?

What the guy was saying is that the OTA breaks root...that's why you're getting the message you're getting. You'll have to go back to the previous build to root as stated above. Next time, do a small amount of research before accepting an OTA.

OTA doesn't break root, you just have to use caution - go in SuperSU, select Survival Mode, deselect Enable Superuser. Then take the OTA update - when it's all finished, go back into SuperSU, select Enable Superuser, then uncheck Survival Mode and you're done. Root on latest OTA update.
I believe you need to have the pay/pro version of SuperSU for the Survival Mode option.

Correct if I am wrong....wouldn't it be easier just to revert to stock using Odin and then take the update on Kies or OTA then root again? I think this would save a lot of folks the trouble. You can root the OTA and safe strap still works....

[Q] Rooting Problems on US Cellular SM-N900R4

Hello, I am having problems with rooting my galaxy note 3 model SM-N900R4 on US cellular. I followed the instructions on true-android.blogspot.com
My problem comes when It gets stuck after the root and stays to the title screen "Samsung Galaxy Note 3". There will be the Seandroid error In the top left corner too. I restart the phone by going to download mode and selecting cancel to reboot the phone. Everything passed in Odin 3.07 and i went to root checker after the reboot and saw that I'm not rooted. Please help, I'm on android 4.3 Stock.

Not necessarily but if you had one installed, you can just flash supersu to gain root.

Here we go. This is for T818VVRU1AQB1 firmware, but probably works on any revision 1 firmware.
Instructions
1. Enable OEM UNLOCK
In Settings>About>Software info tap the build number 7 times to enable developer options. Once you've enabled developer options, developer options will appear in settings just above the About device option. Open developer options, the 4th or 5th option should be “OEM Unlock”. Turn on.
2. Download the eng boot image.
This is a special boot image normally used by engineers, it allows selinux to be booted in permissive mode with relaxed root restrictions.
Do not replace this image with the stock image after rooting your device or you will possibly soft brick your device.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862710309
3. Install boot image:
Download Odin v3.11.1
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the SM-T818V_eng_boot.tar to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
Reboot
Check in Settings>About>Software, your device should be in Selinux permissive mode.
4. Install and run Kingroot:
Make sure you have an internet connection.
You may need to run Kingroot several times to gain successful root.
5. Install and run SuperSU me to remove Kingroot and convert to SuperSU (not required) :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ore&pcampaignid=APPU_1_uzPDVbGyFcGNyATHrqmoCA
6. Wifi fix:
modify the line below in /system/build.prop:
ro.securestorage.support=true to false
Good luck I hope it works for you. Let me know your outcome.

The boot image flashed OK with odin? Which splash screen?
This could mean you need to wipe the data partition first for it boot.
I should be able to get the stock firmware for you sometime tomorrow.

Flashed fine. It's the screen that says Android very big and had the tab model, right before it goes into the boot animation.
I'll wipe data partition and report back.
Please don't feel responsible for it, I'm about trying anything for rooting... I'm sure we'll get fixed

Sure, we'll get it fixed no worries.
Anyway it seems like you need the accompanying botloader if its getting stuck on the bootloader animation.

If it still doesn't boot I'll give you a link to the entire engineering firmware via PM. Then se how you get on with that and gaining root.

Are you saying that the full firmware didn't flash either? At what point does it fail?
Anyway don't worry I'll upload the stock AQA3 firmware later.
EDIT: I think this is all you'll need to get booting again. Flash via AP in ODIN.
If not I'll give you the link to the entire firmware.
