Is it my use of abbreviations that is confusing you? My bad.
You cannot install Ice Cream Sandwich on the Kindle Fire HD because there are no Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for the Kindle Fire HD.

Soft-bricks can be restored, and hard-bricks cannot be restored.

I need to do quite a lot of screenshots how do I root my device? It is on 3.2 I also read that icecream sandwich will come standard with a screenshot function,is this correct? When will I be able to upgrade my A500 to icecream sandwich?

Check around next time. 3.2 cannot be rooted yet. Only Acer can say if your tablet will be updated.

It's not like these questions haven't been answered multiple times in this forum. You'll get less grief here if you use the search function before asking a question.

As far as screenshot in ICS, you'll know when it gets here, and the multiple threads on ICS, best guess according to Acer is January.

No, but you can downgrade and root 3.1 then go to a pre-rooted 3.2

CM9 and ICS on the way to Kindle Fire?

Hello!
I just read an article on Engadget, reporting news about CyanogenMod 9 and Ice Cream Sandwich. Link (my first post, so waren't allowed to post clickable link... sorry!): engadget.com/2011/12/06/ics-based-cyanogenmod-9-its-on-track-but-not-for-everybody/
It mentions CM9 making good progress, especially for devices powered by the OMAP 4 processor. Considering the OMAP 4430 processor inside the Fire, this must be great news for future Fire ROM's?
Is it likely we'll see a CM9 ROM for the Fire?

Ok, thank you, I'll try to find some more threads about it. Those I've found so far are mostly about porting the CM7 ROM, but I guess the CM9 gets mentioned as well
CM7 has been ported, but does not have sound. The Dev. working on that did that to prove it could be done, then went directly to an ICS port. Another Dev says he has completed ICS, with aspects not working, but sucessfully booting, and will post pics and source later today. It is def. coming. I am waiting for the TWRP 2.0 before I mess with them though. I need successful recovery tools before I am willing to brick a $199 investment.
Sounds really great! I haven't received my Kindle yet, but the idea of running ICS on it is very exciting.
Do any of you have any thoughts about the performance? I've tried some HTC Android phones earlier, and noticed a significant performance increase when I replaced the stock ROM (with Sense) with a Vanilla Gingerbread ROM. Do you believe it will be the same result here? Better performance with Vanilla ICS than with the stock ROM including Amazon's custom UI?
It indeed seems like the developers that are working on the Kindle Fire make great progress! Awesome news for me that is probably importing one to Sweden in the near future. Awesome work developers!
Same here! Importing one to Norway, so a great part of the Kindle Fire Custom UI is more or less 'useless' for me... ICS will certainly make it a lot more versatile!

I'm with you there, I want to install the CM7 port so bad but don't like not having a working recovery yet. Wish I knew enough to help out the development, but I'm just a tinkerer.

On ICS and love it...now gonna try CM9!
I have been on ICS for a week now and love it...Now its time to try out CM9, since they got a new update today! Want to give HUGE THANKS to all the DEVS!! You have made my Kindle Fire AWESOME!!
I also installed the cm9 beta earlier this week. I've updated with each new release and it just keeps getting better. It runs so much faster than the OEM software and most of my apps install with ease. Can't thank the devs enough for their work.
Kindle Fire ICS beta is awesome
The new Kernel by Hashcode is amazing a step in the right direction for perfect KF support for ICS. Thank you to Hashcode, JackpotCalvin, and all the other devs who put in so much time to get this working!

The roms in the dev forum are FROM ACER.. That is what you asked..
THE ANSWER TO the above is NO.. THERE IS NO Released update from acer for the a500 tablet. There is no full Officially released ICS Rom of any kind from Acer for out tablet. the leak is as close as you will get right now.. acer says mid April is when they push to ics will start. If you want your tablet stock WAIT..
ok ... i want the close rom that there is to the stock
so i think i need to wait for these four rom's

People does not simply give answer without making some kind of "where is waldo game"
here your answer dude
Have the driver ADB ready for your tablet
FIRMWARE LEAK STOCK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524736
I updated it with the stock recovery (dunno if you can do it with the custom one... have to check for this to be sure)
ROOT WITH
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
DO NOT INSTALL FACELOCK , it's not yet working totally
DO NOT INSTALL ACER RING (up to you but it's really useless...)
IF YOU WANT change to RW the /system (for modify some stuff)
an application will be installed with the rooting one,
normally it's will be the first app on your tablet,
1 - click on it,
2 - then press first option and second
reboot your tablet
redo exactly the step 1 and 2
then open root explorer and you normally are able to change /system to RW
end of story. have a nice day
PS:
Why the leak one and not custom rom
well I never got any SOD problem, or anything else than CUSTOM got...
CUSTOM are good it's a fact, but for sure the "Official" rom will probably got less bug, I use to have taboonay before, I didn't go back to stock because not satified, just because I wanted to... that's it.
DEV are doing a great job and that have to be said

I think you need to work on your reading comprehension a bit. Erica quite clearly said "RELEASED", and she's 100% right. There is currently NO officially released ICS update for the A500. We know it's coming, and we know roughly when, but it's not RELEASED yet.

It's more "civil" to port from source rather than hack/pack from a pre-built image..
The most someone can do with the currently available images is a proof of concept.. nothing more..
