i don't think i have... is that necessary in order to flash a custom recovery then rom. I forgot to mention i made the mistake of flashing the JB version of twrp and not the 4.2 version but i fixed this by flashing asus stock firmware 4.2.1

just unlocked by BL and re entered the script for the twrp.blob file and now i have twrp recovery! this took me nearly 5hrs to figure out

[Q] [HELP] Missing recovery 4.3

I was running TWRP with the franco kernel and stock rom on my nexus 4 4.2.2. When I got my OTA update notification, I did the needful and reverted back to stock rom and un rooted the phone using wugs root kit. Like wise the update was successful and I went about restoring all the backup's i created using wugs root kit 1.6.4.
Now the issue is after all this when I went about rooting the thus phone, I faced horrors for which I couldn't find exact answers on this forum. I want to flash TWRP 2.6 and to do that I went into fastboot and tried to flash it, but i keep getting an error saying "cannot load recovery.img: No error. And when I do try into get into the stock recovery then I get an image of fallen droid with a red exclamation mark and a message saying "No Command". Can anyone tell me what is the issue and how can i fix/workaround it..
Thank You:good:
EDIT: when I get the no command "fallen android" when i select recovery from the bootloader on pressing power+vol up does give me acces to the stock recovery. But even on using wug's 1.6.6 root kit I'm unable to root the device and install a custom recovery

I would try to flash the full stock google image with fastboot and see what happens ?
Using fastboot to flash the recovery definitely works as I've done it, just have to make sure you use the right command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Make sure you're using the correct filename of the recovery image you have, I prefer to rename mine recovery.img so I can't get it wrong. Also make sure you're not putting recovery.img.img - sounds silly but people do do it!

Nope did the same thing! gives me the cannot load error, I just copy pasted the filename so can't go wrong there. And a stock rom flash is an option but the thing is i don't have a custom recovery nor root access for titanium backup don't wanna spend time again personalizing. I'm sure there is a simpler way.

How to root 4.4.2 nakasig

Hello! Can somebody help me with the question how can I root this device?
Please?
Try this man, i always use this guide for root and unlock with cwm.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9C_QEYHzoEk
As far as I know there isn't a Exploit for 4.4.2, so you have to unlock the Bootloader at any rate.
If you just want to root, the easyiest way is just to boot the CF-Auto-Root boot image for your device: http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
If you just want to flash custom roms, theres no need to root your actual ROM. Just flash the TWRP recovery Image via fastboot.

Hi, antila...
Straightforward enough, if you know how to use fastboot...
------------------------------------------------
* Unlock the bootloader with fastboot oem unlock
-- BEWARE... THIS WILL FACTORY RESET THE NEXUS 7... and you will loose everything on it. All user installed apps and any files (music, video, pics etc.) will also be lost.
* Fastboot flash a Custom Recovery, such as CWM or TWRP, with fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-- (where recovery.img is the name of the recovery image file to be fastboot flashed).
* Using that Custom Recovery, flash Chainfire's SuperSU root updater .zip.
* Reboot and you're rooted.
------------------------------------------------
I've written about this procedure in slightly more detail here.
The only thing that's changed since, is Chainfire's SuperSU root package has been updated to v1.86, and which you will find here...
http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
If you prefer CWM to TWRP, then the latest CWM recovery can be found here...
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
(It's important you get the correct recovery for the particular type of Nexus 7 you have.)
For a fuller understanding of fastboot, checkout the 'stickies', particularly this one, which pertains directly to your question. It's a little out of date now... but the basic principles still hold.
This thread is also worth a look.
Good luck rooting your N7... (it's really not that difficult).

Hello! Thank you for your help. I did everything as you wrote. Unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP but for some reason root still don't work. Can you give me a link on SuperSu where I can flash it trough TWRP? Please?
Thank you very much for your help.
Once you've got TWRP installed, just download the latest SuperSU (http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip), and flash it through TWRP.

Hi, antila...
If you've unlocked the bootloader, and flashed TWRP... then you've pretty much done the 'hard' part..
As @jfmcbrayer says, download SuperSU v1.86 directly to your Nexus 7, and flash it in TWRP.
However, sometimes the SuperSU app icon doesn't always appear in the app drawer after the TWRP flash... although it's very likely you are actually (probably) rooted.
To fix this, see my post here.
If this **still** doesn't work... try flashing an older version of the SuperSU root .zip, available here...
http://download.chainfire.eu/368/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.75.zip
This will flash SuperSU v1.75... and then go to Google Playstore to update it to SuperSU v1.86. You will probably be prompted to do this anway, as soon as it is detected you're running a slightly out of date version...
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Why didn't you just boot the CF-Autoboot bootimage as I suggested? It's the easyest way and you could have kept your stock recovery (less trouble with OTA Updates)
Just fastboot boot boot.img and a few seconds later your device is rooted...

Trouble reflashing ASUS stock ROM for ZE551KL

I accidentally tried doing a factory reset, and flashing an incorrect rom. So I lost the stock rom, and have no other rom to use. I tried using TWRP to flash ASUS's stock firmware from asus's support website, under firmware. Using firmware file: "UL-Z00T-WW-1.16.40.763-user.zip"
but TWRP tells me "E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip'
Error flashing '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip"
I still have access to both adb, fastboot, and TWRP but I cant get an OS to install.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, haven't even had this phone a day yet, and already may have broken it.
I don't have an answer to your question , just got this phone yesterday and am in the process of figuring out how to root and install a custom recovery for this specific device.. I have found many methods to root but none for my specific model. I think you have the same model as I do and was hoping you could lead me to the place that will give me the files I need.. the box my phone came in has the model as ASUS_Z00TD (ZE551KL).. Sorry I wasn't of any help to you, hope you manage to figure out how to flash something that will get your device running again!

Do yo mean this stock recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64441364&postcount=9
How do I flash it? just "fastboot flash recovery stock_recovery.img" ?
If so, I've tried that, and TWRP still boot when I try to enter recovery. Also, once I've flashed the stock recovery, do I just place the firmware on the root of the sdcard as 'update.zip' and try to install it from there?
Thanks for your help already, and sorry about the repetitive questions!

What are you trying to flash? Custom kernel? Stock boot.img?
Either the .img is corrupt/incompletely downloaded OR you have unlocked boot loader using unofficial method.
1. Download the boot.img and try again
2. If it still gives error, you do not have a proper bootloader unlock. Try flashing twrp that is confirmed working by you, to verify if bootloader is properly unlocked or not.

Apparently, your current recovery version does not match with your current firmware version. There are two possible workarounds-
1. Wipe system by executing "fastboot erase system" in fastboot mode. Then reflash latest official asus lollipop ROM. This will fix the recovery and firmware mismatch and you will then be able to flash MM via stock recovery.
2. If you are experienced with edit8ng updater-script, Extract all contents of MM ota. Open updater-script and remove all asserts and lines that say "abort". Then compress the contents again. (You can't edit without extracting coz zip is signed). Flash this modified ota zip via TWRP.
If you still can't flash it or you are unable to edit updater-script, pm me, I have downloaded the MM ROM, I will send you modified updater-script.
I can even convert this ota into .imgs so that you can flash directly via fastboot

alright, download the updater-script from attachment. Flash via TWRP.
Detailed instructions-
First extract entire ota zip. Delete the original updater-script.
Then extract "updater-script_modified.zip"
Copy the extracted "updater-script" to extracted ota at the right location. (META-INF/com/google/android)
Compress the ota files as a zip using 7zip or winrar. Compression level "normal" . DONT USE ANY ANDROID APP FOR COMPRESSING, USE WINDOWS/LINUX APP ONLY.
Flash the modified zip via TWRP recovery

Bricked, bootloop tried all I can think of

I was on the last beta n4f26t, and flash TWRP successfully, then went to flash superSU from twrp, this when wrong and everything goes downhill from here. I tried flashing back the last update, in it's entirety following the Heisenberg guide for returning to stock didn't work, tried flashing twrp again still can't get into recovery (just boot loops) I tried a previous update NMF26F and got to the dead android recovery screen but when I tried to flash back the OTA nothing happened and went back to bootloop on reboot. I've used the nexus root kit and still nothing. What can I do to fix this? I've honestly looked up every resource I could think of before posting this here. really hoping I didn't perma brick my 6P

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can try:

fastboot format userdata
Of course it will wipe your internal storage...

I would concentrate on trying to get a working recovery first. Almost everyone who lost recovery mode never got their phone back- classic BLOD. First try fastboot FORMATTING recovery and then both fastboot flash twrp, and then fastboot boot twrp. If you can get a working recovery there may be hope. If you can never boot to recovery mode, I think you are done. From your bootloader screen, what is your bl version?

Yes, but is that what is shown on your bootloader screen? How did you flash it? With flash-all.bat? Which 7.1.2 image did you flash and how did you do it?

BL: angler-03.6.7
Baseband: angler-3.81
I see all normal BL options and I flashed it with the nexus root kit and used https://developer.android.com/preview/download-712.html this image
I know with older versions of TWRP there was a problem with the EFS partition that contains the IMEI info. What version of twrp are you using??? I thought I bricked my Nexus 6p after restoring a backup but it was actually just me screwing up my EFS partition. The newer versions of twrp (i think 3.0.3 and up) fixed this problem. Still though, if it is that, and you flash a new twrp version it won't fix your problem. If you have the time search through the forum for the EFS partition fix. I don't know the commands off the top of my head but I know this helped a lot of people. Worth a shot.

OK, but when you try to boot to recovery, it bootloops? Never goes to recovery? Try the steps above to successfully flash the recovery partition using fastboot. I suppose you can use NRT, but download the latest version of TWRP and try both flashing and booting the twrp.img.

anxious to hear results: I can't get to recovery and am bootlooping - tried a bunch of things using Nexus Root Toolkit . Curiously enough earlier when I was trying to flash an older version or ressurection remix, even my TWRP would bootloop so I couldn't flash anything without it quitting - anyone ever hear of that happening?

Hey... Did you try to boot TWRP?
From bootloader: fastboot boot twrp.img
If this fails and you only have access to the bootloader, i think you are SOL.
Good luck...

Yep from bootloader:
fastboot boot TWRP.img
I don't have any other idea sorry...
You can try to contact Google or Huawei. Even being out of warranty, some people have had their device replaced.
Good luck...

Are you able to get into recovery and adb sideload a stock OTA from the google developer website? That's always saved me when I've had problems.

Guess you didn't read the rest of the the thread...
We don't need more posts about bootloop. There is a main topic that has been discussed for multiple pages:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/boot-loop-death-nexus-6p-t3533528
I personally had the issue and had to RMA the phone. I suggest you do the same.
