[Q] Booting into White Screen - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi, today I was just using my phone when it froze while I was using Pandora and Instagram. I removed the battery and then put it back in and on boot it goes to a plain white screen and hangs there.
I removed the battery and tried again but nothing happened.
I hard reset it and it seemed that the hard reset completed, but it still boots into a white screen.
I was running the ACA Sim Card build. Unfortunately I learned a lot of the stuff in a binge years ago and now am not too good at finding the stats on my phone.
I can reach the RGB screen. I am currently relearning everything to try to fix it, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I also booted into the RGB screen and connected to a computer but I didn't really see the computer recognize anything was connected.
Thank You

I believe it is some issue of bad sector on your SD card partition if the ROM is trying to access that. On the other hand, the easiest solution will be to follow:
Take out SD card:
1. Put in computer SD card slot
2. Download minitools partition wizard
3. Format card
4. Re-partition according to your need.
On phone:
1. Task 29
2. Magldr
3. CWM
4. Superwipe (wipe twice)
5. Install ROM again.
Hope this helps.

Stuck at G1 screen - read everything I could find

I have read and tried anything I could think of here.
I have downloaded RC29
Extracted the file to SD ccard formated to FAT32
Started up in Bootloader
Phone found the file and successfully installed
Pressed action button to reboot.
Stays in Tri color screen
I have tried the soft reset, but I am still stuck at the G1 screen.
I am not new to flashing and recovery, only to the G1. What am I missing?
Does it reboot and return to the tri-color screen, or not reboot at all? Did you try taking the sd card out and then rebooting?
The same thing happened to me, I downloaded rc29 to root my phone so I did the rooting and then I wanted to install the JF Rc33 update so I tried rebooting in recoveyr mode to install the update and my phone just got stuck in the G1 logo. It works on normal reboot but not in tecovery mode or when I press camera & power it takes me to a white screen with green letters and the little green android guy..... how can I fix that? I want the jf update. Is there any way of installing it without having to use recovery mode? Or is there anyway to fix recovery mode?
danguyf,
Thanks.
I just redid the RC29 boot off the SD card. Just to rule out some more issues, I formatted the card again (512mb Sandisk).
As soon as I hit the action button, I get the tri color bootloader screen.
I have tried:
removing the SD card PRIOR to pressing the action button
removing the SD card PRIOR to a soft boot (call, end menu).
I have been using a fully charged battery.

Oke good luck !
You need a WM phone to make a Goldcard and Qmat 2.24 if you use Windows.

Just so we are clear, these are the steps you followed???
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
The phone is not mine. It came in to us to recover. It came in frozen on the G1 screen, so I cannot perform these 2 steps:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
It does charge via USB and AC.
It is now powered up and frozen, but XP does find the Android phone and it shows up as a disk drive in device manager.
First off, who froze it?
Secondly, does the phone get to the homescreen?
The user brought it in at the G1 screen.
That is as far as it gets in power up.

i hope you have a computer and either an extra mini sdcard *1MB in size* handy, or a mini sd card reader handy.
format the card, fat32.
download the rom from here. *scroll down to downloads section and pick the appropriate one. rc-33 U.S. RC-9 U.K. ADP unbranded*
if it's already named update, transfer it to the card, if not rename it update, then transfer it to the card.
After it has been transferred.
place the card back into the phone. start the phone up holding home and end key till it enters the recovery mode.
you should see a list of commands with a leopard looking-like screen.
hit alt-w
then alt-s
after it is complete, hit back+home to reboot again.
Just wanted to follow up annd say thanks to everyone for the help. I did not get a chance to deal with it today, but I will post the outcome.
I have the same problam too.
I have JF 1.1 Holidey version and when I try to update it to jf1.5 it gets stuck on the G1 logo, I tried using differnet updates to and differnt sd cards
and even tried the JF updater and it dosent work, I'm a bit frustrated, my brother rooted the phone for and installed the RC29 rom and the JF rom,
it offered me a system holiday update awaile ago and when I updated it froze on the G1 logo after I waited a long time (about 45 min) I removed the battery and started the phone again.. then I saw about 35MB free space (before I had only 10MB) and I think that from that point it added the holiday but I'm not sure if it wasn't already before that.. I realy need your halp with this.. I can't find a way to boot my phone and start a bootloader..
p.s. I was able to get to the fast boot when I press the power + Camera but I don't know how to use it..

G1 homescreen freeze
Hi,
I have a G1, installed hero-rom from xda(Jacheroski 2.0). I found it pretty annoying because the phone was very slow etc. So i tried to go back to the almost original software.
1. started G1 in recovery mode(Home+power), alt+x, adb shell, #parted /dev/block/mmcblk0, mklabel msdos, Y, rm1, rm2, mkpartsfs, primary, fat32, 0, 8000(8 gb card), shut down G1.
Downloaded:
- Radio (from htc support)
- SPL (from xda)
- Rom (from htc support)
Copied those files to my SD.
2. started my G1 in recoverymode(Home+power), wipe, apply any zip from SD,
First installed Radio = succesful
Tried to install SPL:got an error in line.
So thought that I first need to reboot my G1(because of the radio)
I rebooted my G1. got a installation screen. then I restarted my G1 and wanted to go to recovery mode to install spl and rom. It was frozen on the homescreen. I can't do any thing. not recovery not the other one(camera+power)
Any advice?

Help

Hey every one I'm new to xda and I got my samsung vibrant rooted with the stock system recovery and was working fine but than I decided to do some apps and file transfer from another android phone to it and after that my phone kinda froze on me. So I rebooted the phone and boom nothing happen after the galaxy s animation, its just stuck there then the screen went black out. I rebooted again and this time I went to the sustem recovery mode and try to do the data reset but it couldn't fix it either. I tried to connected to my computer but since the phone wasn't fully booted into the home screen my computer are unable to detect the phone driver. I reconnect the phone and computer together, and this time I got to where it say's "downloading" "do noy turn off target", what is that mean? is it download something or is that I'm suppost to do something to it. Please can someone help me out. I've already download the stock firmwire but couldn't be able to transfer to the mass storage cos the phone couldn't boot beyound the galaxy s animation and eventhough its in the system recovering I still couldn't get it to connect to the phone mass storage. What can I do to fix it?.
You can take the battery out at that screen, but I don't know if it's going to fix your overall issue.
Take sd out. Hook to computer with adapter. Move stock nandroid to sd. Replace sd in phone. Boot into clockwork recovery. Restore nandroid. Reboot.you are now stock with root.
one thing
I know what I did is stupid but at lease I learn my lesson. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out.
help
I tried but its not working cost the phone doesn't read what's on the sd card it read only the mass storage which is the 14g not the 2g memorycard.
The SD card won't be in the phone so of course it won't read from it. It will read from the interbal memory, so do it from there.

Turn off the phone, take out the battery and take out the SD card, try to get your hands on a sd card reader for your card so you can fix what you did without using your phone to mount it. Copy the rom or stock firmware over to the card and use the recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then try to load up the stock firmware. if all else fails do a hard reset:
To hard reset Samsung Vibrant, follow the steps below:
Step 1. Turn your Samsung Vibrant off. If your Samsung Vibrant is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it.
Step 2. Hold the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Press and release the Power button.
Step 4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button, then press and release the Power button.
Step 5. Choose one of these: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO. If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Vibrant.
That is for the default recovery so depending on the recovery you are using try to wipe everything and flash the ROM from the sd card, if you need help PM me or contact me on chat.andirc.net #droideris, or irc.andirc.net #droideris
Best of luck!

[Q] Bricked!?!?!

I've heard about how it's pretty much impossible to brick the nook... Mine seems about as useful as a brick though. I was trying to set up a dual boot following these instructions. Basically, I had HC installed to the internal memory. backed it up, formatted system and data, then flashed update-nc-stock-1.2. CWM said that was successful. Then I rebooted with my CWM SD card out. Screen said "read forever" or whatever, then went blank. I waited for about 5 minutes, and pressed the power button. The screen went from an 'on' blank to an 'off' blank. Since then, I haven't been able to get it to turn on at all. Just an 'off' blank screen with no signs of life, even with charger cable connected. Tried it with CWM SD in and out. None of the buttons seem to do anything...
Thanks in advance!!
I'm pretty new to the Nook having just got it today, but I did some reading prior to attempting anything to see how easily I could back out if I had to.
Have you tried basically starting over (ie. Let go of the multi-boot dream for a bit and get back to basics)
You know, take a SD card, use diskimager to put the clockwork 3.0.2.8 image on it with the CM7 full ROM and boot to that, then format system, data and cache with clockwork and finally install the CM7 zip image (and gapps I guess) just to get going again.
If it all works, maybe take another run at whatever you are trying to do with the multi-boot stuff.
Thanks for the reply.
Sounds awesome; problem is I can't get the thing to do ANYTHING. boot period, into recovery or otherwise. I plug it in and it displays nothing - no 'wait 15 minutes and try again'. Just a black screen no matter what I do. I have an SD card with recovery on it, and i've tried making it do something with or without the SD card. No luck.
Good luck with your nook; I had really been enjoying mine.
So holding the power button for 10-15 seconds doesn't do anything?
Or when you plug in the power does it try to boot?
I mean in a complete worst case scenario you could grab yourself a T5 and open it up, disconnect the battery, and then reconnect it.
Then something is wrong with your Recovery SD card, as no matter what, hardware dictates that it reads the sd card first. The problem with what you did through dual boot methods is you resized partitions. So even if you do back out of all of this, you're going to be losing space unless you setup dual boot.
Recreate the CWM recovery card, either redownload the image and reburn it. Find a different one or something else, because it should load on startup.
Thanks for the help!
Reformatted SD again, then tried powering up with the power cord unplugged. Apparently it won't boot into recovery as long as the power cable is in, and whatever the boot was on EMMC was messed up. Happily running stock 1.2 now, next step, dual boot with HC!
Anyone know how I can delete this thread as it's pretty unnecessary?

[Q] First blue screen, now boot loop.

Hello XDA-devs forums,
I'm having an issue since yesterday.
I have rooted my Huawei Ideos X5, and it ran fine for a day or so.
However, when my battery ran out it shut down into a completely blue screen.
When I tried booting it again, this just showed me a blue screen as well.
Now, I fixed this issue by connecting the phone to my PC after booting it with the Vol+ and Vol- pressed.
(So you get the pink/purple screen)
However, when I opened the phone on my PC, all I saw was a "239 MB" "empty" space, and it should have ~2GB..
I placed a backup copy I saved of my "image" folder in that 239 MB storage, and it booted.
However, today I hooked it up to my PC again to see if it magically changed..
And I couldn't access the 239 MB space anymore.
When I tried fixing the issue with a reboot of the phone, that just caused it to get stuck in a booting loop.
So now I'm stuck with a phone that keeps trying to boot itself,
and I can't access it on my windows PC.
I can, however, access 4 different folders of the phone on my linux notebook.
Now, my question is: can someone with a good understanding of problems like these please help me out?
I'm getting kind of fed up with it, as I've only got the phone for 2 days now.
Thank you in advance, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
Have you tried removing the battery for 5 minutes and then putting it back in?
After this, what happens when you press VOL+ and Power?
How about if you press VOL+, VOL- and Power, without the USB cable?
Hello Katu, thank you for posting.
Regarding your questions:
Yes, I have tried to take out the battery for 5+ minutes- it didn't change anything to the situation unfortunately..
If I press VOL+ and Power at the same time, the device boots into recovery mode.
In this I have tried to format the device in order to reset it to factory defaults, but this did not help either.
When I press VOL+, VOL- and Power, the phone boots into the pink/purple screen.
Can you try a custom recovery and a custom rom? I want to see if your onboard flash is borked.

I had the same when my phone got f*ucked up. Put the image folder, than download official rom, like b138 and install it. then check your imei. There is a change that it will be 0.

Well, I used an original ROM:
U8800 V100R001C00B136(Overseas General version)
And that resulted in the boot.img being corrupted, so I can't even overwrite that anymore.
Also, this is what I see when I hit VOL+, VOL- and Power at the same time to boot into safe mode, and connect it to my PC.

I installed the official B136 rom, and after it rebooted, it would just hang on a black screen.
(it used to show the IDEOS or Android logo when it booted)
Hmm mine came with this Rom
U8800 V100R001C00B135SP01 ( general )
Looking at your name you're from the Netherlands ( so am I )
where did you get this 136 version from ?
I would try to put this one on it
You have to put the 'dload' folder into the root of your SD Card,
then boot into boot-loader, after that it'll automatically flash back to the stock Rom.
1 Format SD card
2 On the SD card, create "dload" folder
3 Put the unzipped Rom into "dload" folder
4 Then boot to bootloader (pink screen)
Yes, mine came with that version as well.
However, I couldn't find it anymore and thus downloaded the version I said earlier.
Also, I did everything as you described, except step 4.
You have to boot to recovery instead of bootloader. (VOL+ and Power)
Anyways, I managed to get ClockworkMod's recovery.img on my phone,
and from there on install a custom ROM on the phone, which magically got it working again - even though it didn't work earlier.
Thank you for reading my thread and taking the time to reply to it.
My issue has been resolved.
just for the record, flashing a stock rom is different from flashing a custom rom..
the 4 steps described by Gman2oo6 is the correct way to flash a stock rom (and it is written clearly in the document that is in the stock rom zip file)
[edit]
step (1) is not a necessary step though..
Yeah, I noticed that.
What I did was format my SDcard with FAT32,
and put a custom rom (update.zip) on the SDcard.
I then booted ClockworksMod Recovery and installed the custom rom from the SDcard.
When I tried installing the stock rom, I just followed the PDF file's instructions that came with the stock rom.
hey i udated to GB 2.3.4 (official)and i didnt like the it cuz the wifif ddnt work and the bluetooth also the DATA so itryed to downgrade to 2.2.2 original official and it did the 2/2 steps intalled and when it restarted it did not want to turn on all that happened was it vibrated and thats all so i left it on like that and when the battery died i plugged it in to the AC and the LED turned on red and the touch kkeys also but not the screen so i really NEED help!
Try to turn it on with lead connected but no battery and see if you can start it.
My battery also went dead flat this morning and I couldn't get it started at all till I tried this. Once I got it started the only thing I could do was quickly pop in the batery and let it charge. Just leave off the cover till you get it going.
I have to add that I did not have the problem of a failed update to deal with but it may at least get you started
i tryed it
nope nothin good happened all that happens is a blank screen with nothin on ,LED is off and the touch keys are off. it justz vibrates and when i put the battery it turn the LED on to red and the touch keys turn on but then like 5 min later the LED and keys turn off

ok heres what i did i wanted to upgrade my phone to the newest version GB 2.3.4.So what i did was download the update and i followed the installation steps i successfully updated to Gb 2.3.4. so like i was checking how it look and the new feature but when i wanted to go on the android market i went to setting and turn on the wifi and it said Error and then i tried the Bluetooth and it said Error also so then i put my SIMs card in and i was like imma use DATA then and when i restarted my phone it had service but no HSPA+ or Edge or GPRS so like i just hatted my phone from their so then i was trying to root it but iddnt know how to do that so like i read this website and i got the UPDATE.APP or 2.2.2 AT&T did the same steps of the installation of BG 2.3.4 and it went to the process and 1/2 stepp good it passed and then 2/2 also passed it installed it and when it said Successively Installed it said Restarting and the scrren turn of and it vibrated and thats all that happened and i left it like that for the whole days and nothing happened
Do u got any idea?
When i connect it to my laptop it says installing drivers .then its says sucesfully installed drivers ready to use. so then i got to Device Manger and i check what has been installed and their it said USB Human interface device and HID-compliant device WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??
Not sure about the HID (human interface device) probably just the way windows sees the device for interfacing with it. With regards to the not booting I have read a lot of people saying that you need to factory reset and clear cache after the upgrade/downgrade. With the phone off, turn it on by long pressing volume+ and power on button till you get the blue recovery screen and from there you can reset factory/ data and also clear the cache. from what I see this should clear up the problem and start up. Please read this thread, it may help you somehow..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
Hope this helps a little

[Q] The Unbreakable Bootloop - Am I bricked?

The Device:
Nookcolor Refurb - came with stock 1.2 installed. Rooted with CM7 - initially had boot partition problems and went back and did the fix for it. (was using an old CWR, so had to redo that, too). Worked mostly fine for a few weeks. Had a little trouble installing the recent cm7 stable update. But after clearing and redo, no problems. Then I updated Adobe flash to 10.3 through the market. bad, bad, bad. (I've discovered). It has gone into a bootloop, but it doesn't even get in far enough to bring up CWR either internally or on a bootable SD card. It brings up "loading" - whether in CM7 or CWR - then shuts itself off. I have tried the 3 button salute and 8 interrupted boots, but neither works in any way. Is there something else I can do?
Also, a side note, the device will not charge to green light - even if charging overnight. At first I thought it was a battery issue, but after a day of combing the boards, I'm thinking bootloop from hell.
Help!!!!
Are you running CM 7 internally or from a card? If internally, try making a bootable CM 7 card and booting from that.
I am running it internally. The device will not boot from a card or internally. It doesn't get far enough into the boot before it loops for CWR to start up - either internally or off the sd card. I can get to the boot menu (hold down n when it starts up), but it doesn't boot off any of the options there, just goes to black screen.
What happens when you do the 8 failed boots?
Nothing really happens with 8 failed boots. I think it terminates the boot process before it gets far enough along for it to "count". Loading comes up, I count one thousand one....all the way to one thousand seven. Then it shuts off, often reboots itself. Same deal with CWR. Loading comes up, count to 7, shuts off. I can get to the boot menu in CM7, but I it doesn't respond when I request any type of boot from anywhere. Either hangs or restarts.
I'm trying ADB, but it won't stay connected. Flicks on right at the end of the loading process and then shuts down. It really sucks.
Shelly, shoot me a pm... i'll give ya my phone number and we'll work on getting it going.
Sorry if this is redundant, but in very basic troubleshooting have you tried charging your Nook? It probably is more complicated/serious than a low battery, but it wouldn't hurt to rule it out.
I finally did get it to charge to green light. Didn't make a difference. I can get it to hang sometimes when it's trying to get into CWR. And it will stay on the Boot Menu.
Just a side note, I have another NC that I've had since Jan. Autonootered, Manual Nootered, CM7ed, brought back from the dead many a times.
Dizzy Den - am shooting you a message shortly. Thanks.
Has this been solved? If yes how?
Could you find a solution to your problem?
I'm having the same issue now. Bought a Nook Color in November, Autonooted, flashed recovery from ROM Manager, flashed CM 7.1.0 internally from downloaded ZIP files via ROM Manager, was working just fine for a week, stable, fast, perfect. Overclocked to 1200 MHz after a few days which made the experience even nicer.
Then installed and started Google Maps which didn't work - the Nook turned off on launch of Google Maps app.
I had set Wifi to "stay on all the time" beforehand (which might have been bad because it creates Sleep of Death syndrome as i now know).
Now when i turn it on it shows "Loading" for 7 seconds and then the screen turns off. This is when booting CM, when booting the internal recovery (shows "loading recovery" for 7 seconds) and when booting from any SD card image (i've tried at least 10 different bootable SD card images, different cards and different card readers).
It recognizes and tries to boot off SD cards - i get different "Loading" screens depending on the image, honey-colored for a honeycomb image, with two skulls for a recovery, ... So that works.
The nook seems to be in some kind of "on" state because i need to hold the power button to turn it off before i can get it to boot again.
I can get to the boot menu as you could, but booting from there doesn't do anything at all. So the hardware seems to be OK because the boot menu itself works well and for more than 7 seconds.
I can charge it and it goes to a green light so it's no battery issue.
The nook does not show up on USB - well once it did for a second but that was it.
I even tried to let the battery run completely empty so internal registers can get reset - didn't change anything.
Help! Is it bricked now?
Going to a B&N store isn't an option btw - the next one is 6500 km from here.
(This is the first time i ever ask for help on a forum. I am running a ZTE Blade with CM7 just fine, and I've been stuck often enough but always found a solution myself...)

Have you guys tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308304
Or completely restoring it to stock:
http://mrm3.net/nook-color-recover-any-bricked-device/
Tried, can't get far enough
Kingdruid, thanks, yes i've tried both of those links - sadly they don't help at all because i can't even boot SD card recovery images...
I tried various recovery images including the newest clockworkmod, but i am still stuck They all work for 7 seconds only.
So yes, a nook can actually be bricked it seems.

When you overclocked it, did you notice it getting hotter than usual? I wonder if it was due to the overclocking. All the users I see with unrecoverable nooks is after they overclocked.
No, i did not notice much heat. And it was working well in its overclocked state for a few days.
Do you think it's CPU is fried now?

I own 4 of them so I would prefer the term "Unbrickable", but at this point I'm not really sure.
Try 8 failed boots and see if you can get into recovery to reset to factory.
cant get it working
so first noob post
i used this thread to root my nook color
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957

how did you write the image to the SD card? you can't just do the write button in winimage, you have to use the "convert virtual hard disk image to drive" or something... really should be mentioned in the n00b guides.
Sequence in winimage:
Disk->Use disk (whatever your sd card is)
Disk->Restore virtual hard disk image on physical drive (select the image you're trying to write)
Click ok on the warning and you should have a boot disk
"Write disk" is prominent but just copies the files to the disk, not resize or make it bootable.
Nope - no change
DizzyDen, nope, 8 failed boots does nothing. Just fails 8 times, no restore.
