I had a problem once with the original cable that came with my s4, It charge and everything but when I connected it to the pc it failed to connect. But a change of cable had solved my issue.
But since you have tried that option already. Did you check to see if one of the pins from the phone's port is probably missing or not in the correct position? It could be the pin that transmits data is broken or something.
Also try to angle the cable when plugged (phone side) in to see if you get any connection. (If you do, then one of the pin is loosed.)

Even though i have tried what you said but with no success

Try enabling developer settings, then mass storage mode.
you could try accessing it with odin to make sure its not a hardware fault with the phone? maybe even have a close look into the connector to make sure there is nothing stuck inside like a tiny piece of paper or fluff that is covering one of the pins.

It seems my usb connection has broken on my phone, although it charges it will not sync with any computer - I also have to angle the cable a bit to get it to charge.
I get this message

Tried many cables and seems like Ill have to replace the hardware on my HD2?
Back to the main point, I'd love to put WP7 and NAND Andriod on my phone, but is this impossible without a usb connection to my pc?
have you tried the usb slots at the back of the pc? i had the same problem with the front ones on my last pc, so it might be the case
Yeah I have, tried multiple PC's too
Anyone have any other fixes or suggestions before I send stupid money for a repair
If its broken its broken, it needs to be repaired.
I had a similar problem on a htc vogue. The pins inside the connector sometimes bend causing a connection issue. Have a good look inside with a magnifying glass and a flashlight. You can try to bend them back. At this point, you don't have much to lose.
Thank you for your responses. The part that confuses me is that it does charge via the wall?

Well it shouldn't really confuse you, USB isnt just one piece of metal. The power pins and data will be different. You have likely damaged the data parts so your pc can not properly communicate with it.
Well I didn't know any of that, hence the confusion. Thank you for clearing it up though
You can always send your device to someone with good soldering skills and get your hd2 usb port replaced

Had the exact same problem. Just send it to a repair center, it'll work again. But make you sure you revert your hspl radio and rom to stock though
boot into the boot loader and then plug in the usb cable

Just get it fixed before it doesn't charge anymore. Mine got worse and worse, untill it could only be charged by messing with the cable for 15 minutes. it gets worse, believe me

Ah thanks Any where you suggest I send it off to repair?
So for some reason my USB has stopped working and i can no longer connect to a computer or charge the phone.
I've already purchased another phone so i'm trying to repair this one to use as a backup.
I took the phone apart and the USB port looks to be in tact without any problems, does not appear to have any loose connections or broken connectors.
I did find what looks like maybe some type of corrosion that may have seeped under the tape and bridged two connections on the board.
The phone works perfectly fine except for the USB port, as long as i use a charged battery the phone does everything is has been able to since i purchased it the day the EVOs came out.
So my question is, does anybody know a way to root with hboot 2.16 without using USB? The only method I found to root was the most recently beta released version located at http://revolutionary.io/ which requires a connection to the computer.
I found a possible fix for usb not working and in order to try it out i need to have a rooted phone.
Does anybody have any type of schematics for the EVO? Showing pin outs, etc?
Here's a picture of the section i'm most concerned about, so maybe i could possibly bridge the connection if for some reason it was damaged:

I'm pretty good with electronics and have no problem soldering connections, i do it all the time with traffic signal electronics. Just wondering if someone knows where a schematic or something would be?
Any ideas guys?
Please don't waste a post by telling me to file insurance claim, I did that already and already have a new phone, this phone i want to try and get working so i can have it as a backup in case something happens with my current phone.
Thanks for all the help in advance!
I wanna know the same thing my EVO will charge but won't connect to the pc for some reason.

Oddest thing! I came to the forum to post about the same problem. I just noticed that I cannot mount my phone to my computer anymore. I did not change ROMs or anything. It was working before.
It will charge but when I plug it in my computer says an unrecognized device is found and that's it. It won't install it and just gives me an error on the PC. This occurs on my desktop, netbook and work computer where I used to be able to mount.
Not sure about any schematics or is any exists for this certain occasion but with the problem you have there I'd say if your experienced enough you best getting brand new charger port from ebay rather then fixing that busted one. you can get a good OEM charger port for $5 on ebay
To everyone that says they can charge but no data connections via usb. We busted our ports somehow guys and girls... It's not aofwatre. Bootloading problem etc.. It's hardware. Known issue if I recall as well.
Also you should try to sand the corrosion with a fine grit if you can. Or maybe it was bridged and you fried something. Have you seen any burnt parts on the boars?

Is there an official post regarding this "known issue"???
Or is there a DIY fix for this? It is quite annoying to transfer files on and off my MicroSD without a USB connection.
No but I have heard people taking their phones in due to USB port issues and said that the people said it was a known issue. As I recall if you look into it you should find that there is alot of problems wiht people and USB port issues.
Yeah i still haven't been able to figure it out, got busy with work and didn't have time to mess with it until just now.
I'm going to order a new usb port and solder it on and see if that works.
I will update this thread with my results, should be in about a week.
had this same problem try a different usb cord that was my fix
Ok, not sure if this should go here or the Samsung Epic 4g Touch Forum, as this is my phone and where the issue occured, but I figured this could apply to other phones and wanted to help whoever out.
Anyways, I had the phone for just two weeks and one day I connected to my computer with a micro usb cable, and the computer would fail to recognize it saying "USB device not recognized..." I tried everything including different computers, cables, reinstalling device drivers etc to no avail. Come to find out, I plugged the micro usb cable into the micro usb more firmly and pushed down on a little bit, and finally recognized the device. I guess the port was wearing down over just two weeks and the connection had come loose.
Anyways, wondering if anyone had this issue and if it was repairable as I can see the port getting progressively worst with repeated plugging and unplugging of the device. Thinking samsung would have been able to have built a more durable mini usb port for such a nicely designed device.
Well first, you were right with wondering if you were posting in the wrong place. This is the original epic forum, not the touch. Also, this question has been beaten to death already. Either your cable is faulty, or your drivers aren't fully installed. You can also remove your battery while in download mode and that can help it being recognized.

b16flybye -- I think I just said it wasn't the usb cable or drivers and that it was the actual micro usb port on the phone that was causing the issue.
If you truly believe that it is the port, you can get it replaced at a Sprint store.

and sorry I meant to post in the general forum. I will move my post.
Gavisann -- Yea, it is the port. Once I push the cable in further, the device will recognize it, but once I let go, it loses the connection.

Hi guys,
the last five days i was having problems with my usb port and it really scared me because this is how i lost my last phone. It first started to charge randomly, sometimes charged sometimes not, until it didnt charged at all,but thats not the case with my x8(i hope so ).
If you having promblems with charging too, keep reading this thread and i hope you will get an answer.
Usb looseness can be caused due to several reasons, what im gonna tell doesnt guarantee that it will solve your problem.
1)Change your charger
-If the problem is in the usb cable that will solve your problem for sure!
if any of your friends have the same phone borrow his charger and try to charge your phone.
I dont really suggest to buy a new one just like that, maybe read further and if nothing happen then go for a new charger.
2)Clean the usb port
-Its really common for the usb port to fill with dust and lint and as a result usb cable doesnt fit in the port well.
Check this thread out to see what you have to clean

A while ago I noticed that my micro USB cable does not fit well on my U8800 and when I picked up my phone the cable the cable always fall out without doing any force. After reading various sites, to decide what would be the best way and after I did it I'm now leaving here how to solve this problem. In my case it was dust and lint that accumulated because of taking the phone in pocket, etc..
Tutorial
You should use a toothpick, previously buffed with a fine sandpaper like the image below. You can use other objects, but with the toothpick you can do it without turning off the phone because it isn't a electrical conductor and you can also sharpen the tip very easily.

You should clean the area paint in blue below:
After this you should give special attention to areas in microusb port marked in red below which is where bolts fits and attach the cable to the port. You should try to clean as much as possible the dust that has entrenched there.
In my case after 5 minutes of hard work this was the result:
I used the lamp on my bedside table for a better look inside the door. Those black things are dust that came out of there now do not have any slack in the port works at 100% and I can move the phone without any problem.

3)move the thing* inside the usb port
If you didnt understand what im talking about i hope the pic will help you
-Try to barely move it with a pin or with you finger or with something else, if the problem resist try to move it a little bit more,be carefull!!!Don't push it too hard it can break!!!
For me it works when i push it from the front side of the phone to the back, but if that doesnt help try the opposite.
This is how i solved my problem, after noticing that my usb cable was unstable when it was plugged in, i tried to move it and it worked, now it charging normally and if i move it the opposite direction it doesnt charge
*****Warning*****That is for when you have problem with it, if your port is ok dont mess with it!!!!!!!
And dont mess with this too much, you can break it!!!!!!
I'm not responsible for any damage you possible do to your phone
If you have any suggetion for the thread or for my english( ) please feel free to tell me by posting your comment or by pm
*does anyone know the exact naming?i cant find the proper word...
Thanks! Nice thread! I have this problema too..

While soldering I accidently broke the piece circled in orange int he picture. I think it is a resistor? Can anyone confirm that and possible tell me how many ohms it is? The piece fell on the floor and is in my carpet somewhere. I would like to get a new piece to solder back in. Since the piece is missing my nexus 7 works fine except it can't go into OTG mode. If I connect a flash drive to the micro usb port with an OTG cable nothing happens and previously it would mount the USB with stickmount.

That is a resistor. When I get a chance I'll get the resistance for you, I'm in the process of moving my office in my house so I don't know exactly where my Multimeter is at the moment.
Thank you! That would be much appreciated!

Have you had a look at Nexus 7 schematics?
I found this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31922480#post31922480 , but it's way too complex for me. I have no idea how to find that one little resistor in the schematic.

My guess, please check the schematic on sheet 14 of 60 or page 14, look for r83. Value of R83 is 100k ohm.
please correct if I was wrong.
