I think if we'll get good camera port on 2012-2013 devices in CM Roms then porting camera to 2011 devices will be easier..

You are about a month late. The article was released on 23/06/2013, also this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335941

SE has the most open dev team I've ever seen.
That's a very good article that explains things in detail. Just shows how much work goes on in the background.
Well done for sharing SE!
Keith
Very interesting and informative article.
It's very nice of them to give some explanations to the regular users, makes you realize how much work is actually invested in a project like this.

Finally, we have some progress. After petition which was created by OmegaRED^, and thread, created by me, Sony make some love for our community (thanks for zdzihu for info about it. It's big deal I think, cause we know we can make X10 much better now. Second thing is that Sony didn't forget about us and still looking (hopefully) to relase some other features (I mean sources and answer for questions on their forum). Fingers crossed, guys. We will give X10 devices new life again .

Thanks for Sony again, and please - give us something more, if possible!
Yes! Great news.
I also hope that Sony will deliver the way for us to have 16 million colors in our 4" screen, and maybe even multitouch.
I'm loving Sony again...
I'm sure they will do this, if this possible of course. Hope yes .
PS: I'm planning buy Xperia GX if will be international, and with MSM8960 (Adreno320). For me this is the best smartphone for now, bye Samsung with your SIII plastic fun!

XPERIA GX is really good, what are the benchmarks actually of it vs GS3? Not that I care about it, the phone is smooth, UI is AWESOME and design is THE BEST so far of all Androids. But, the thing we should hope is that it's the MSM8960 Pro, or else we won't have the Adreno 320 .
I'm going to buy it, alot of websites say that the chip in the XPERIA GX supports all networks.
MSM8960 confirmed ->

It's extremally sweet and fast . My next must have after X10 and Play .
BTW - I don't understand why they put Arc/Arc S on second picture, cause there is GX spec xD.
MSM8960 means Adreno 225.
MSM8960 Pro means we get Adreno 320. I think we get the first one ^^. However I'm still going to buy this phone! I contacted Sony Mobile and they said there are no details for a worldwide release yet. So I think there will be worldwide release since they don't know!
Good idea . And I still believe on Adreno 320 with Pro Snapdragon. Maybe they don't put words about it on details. Hope soon we get full specification of GX . Okey, we need stop spam, friend .

That's really great of Sony, but shouldn't this really be an alpha of 4.2.1 at this stage? Samsung already released their official 4.1.2 and are now working on bringing 4.2.1 to our phones. Not really sure whether this qualifies Sony as a "terrific" OEM.

sony takes tad bit more time for sure, but atleast they dont release softwares in hurry with massive bugs like bricking isssues, and security exploits etc. etc and then release more updates after that to fix those
and also samsung released half done sources..
sony takes slight more time, but never has those issues. they release alpha builds and also sources along with that, which is fantastic!
sony is catching up for sure..

Yup. Seriously, I'll take Sony's well-polished ICS over Samsung's half-assed cobbled together JB 4.1 any day of the week.
Xperia T was the longest I've lasted with stock on any phone in quite some time, despite the fact that it was running ICS when every other device I owned and still used was running CM10.1...

SEMC/Sony ROMs have always been well polished and very stable... i have used them on Xperia X10 (QSD8250) -> Xperia Arc (MSM8255) -> Xperia S (MSM8260) -> Xperia T (MSM8960) and they just keep getting better
their GB ROM was ROCK solid...
Honestly I would go back to GB on my SOLA only because some apps are incompatible is what's stopping me.

There are still quite some bugs to sort out and obvious features to add like MMS support. However many of those might get fixed once they manage to release the OS for wider audiences, not only Jolla phones. Exciting months to come for Sailfish OS!

Personaly I would go with OP3 or nexus devices. Good specs and developer friendly.
I like OP3 and Xiaomi mi5 but I would miss the SD card... I would consider Huawei P9 or LG G5, but these have poor developer support. Any alternative?

I would have hope if it wasn't for the fact that we don't have an official CM13 yet. All the builds of the CM12.1 are even nightlies and don't offer the audio and camera quality that Stock has. Let's be real, Sony sucks at open sourcing and the community can't do magic
Sure it sucks, but why is anyone surprised? The Z3 launched September of 2014, almost two years ago.
You really can't blame Sony, two years is pretty standard for updates. Even Google only gives two years of guaranteed updates for the Nexus line.
iirc the concept developers are trying to release the kernel sources, which would allow the devs on xda to build better roms.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA-Developers mobile app
The Z3 is an really nice device. Sad to see that Sony say goodbye to us. I hope customs ROMS can help.
I have Android Nougat 7 Preview 4 running on my Xperia Z3 (and it spontaneously reboots 24 times a day which is a major problem that hopefully the real version will fix). I mean how can they NOT release a real version of Android Nougat?
Well the user base did come together and made Sony change their minds about Xperia M2 and lollipop update... At first it was cut out after which Sony later decided to roll out lollipop for that model...
Sent via Xperia Z3
I think z3 shouldn't use mm or lollipop rom. Because the device will be very hot and it'll make touch screen died. I know someboby have to replace thier touch screen.
Sony cant release N for z3. Google/ Qualcomm removed msm8974 support from aosp N kernel. Sony would have to revert these commits which is the legal issues that the concept Dec was talking my about on g+

I imagine it was a decision by Qualcomm to force people to get new phones so they sell more chips. And I bet we don't see and 801 devices get official N. Only 805 and later
