No worries, a mod should come along to move this thread. He's new, he'll learn.

Quarx has a full collection of all the GB stock ROMs. They are very good on battery life and reliability. Check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
It's stickied at the top of Defy Android Development.
DO NOT FLASH ANY OF THESE SBFs! As long as you just use the nandroid backup provided you will be fine.
next time, post in Q&A instead; this is not the place for questions.
Don't Post questions in Development, moved to Q&A.
Thank you i remember that.
What do you mean dont flash the sbf? How do i use only the nandroid?

Hi folks
Yesterday I soft-bricked my Defy+
After a long and careful session of cursing every saint and patron I could think of, I managed to re-flash the whole thing ( mostly, thanks to this forum, so THANK YOU! )
Problem is, now I'm stuck with stock ROM, and from what I've heard since I cannot downgrade I can't install a custom ROM either
Before I proceed to try anyway and probably soft-brick again, can you tell me if there's anything I can do to remove my ****ty stock ROM?
I was using MIUI and it was totally awesome ( even if that's why I soft-bricked. ), so going back to MIUI would be perfect, trying CM would be pretty good as well ( but no CM9, I use my camera ), even MS2ginger which is basically semi stock would be fine, as long as I remove the stock.
My system version : 45.0.1320.MB526.O2.en.DE
Android Version : 2.3.6
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e
Build number : 4.5.1-134_DFP-132
Thanks in advance!

Install cm72-111213.0943-NIGHTLY-Defy+ instead and install Camera.apk and overlay.omap.so from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20399252&postcount=14580

Good Luck!
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
wipe data factory and cache partition and
install fresh Stock ROM for defy
then u know wht to do
@Leonardo
Thanks man, I'm going to try in the next days - I'm out for New year's even xD
Is this CM7, right? So Camera works, not like CM9.. If the battery not fully charging is the only problem I'm definitely going to install Cyan, Stock Rom just plainly sucks.
@Illumanati
uhm.. what do you mean? that's what I did to recover my soft bricked Defy, I already mount a Stock ROM, why should I wipe and re-install it?
Yes, i think the camera must work, in a red lense defy works replacing Camera.apk and overlay.omap.so, so i think in defy+ too!
PS: Has your defy+ a red lense??

looking at ms2ginger thread it seems pretty straight forward to install this rom.
just make sure you download the correct ms2ginger 2.1 file for defy+. wipe everything and then use nandroid restore method to restore system and data, and advanced restore to restore boot, devtree and recovery. reboot and you're done.
from what i've read, miui doesn't work with gb kernel. so unless some devs come up with new roms or nandroid backup that does, you might be out of luck for now.

Nightly still has battery issues on the Defy+ aint it?
But when I was on 2,3,4 miui worked, I still had GB kernel right? XD it doesn't work on 2.3.6, I tried, it goes bootloop, but unless I am misunderstanding something it's not strictly about the gb kernel

Or maybe defy+ stock 2,3,4 is not GB?

i think you're right. could have something to do with cg version?
2.3.4 cg version is 5, whereas 2.3.6 is 6.

I wish I knew .___. it sucks to be stuck with Moto stock ( whoa, it almost rhymes )
Maybe flashing 2.3.4 Kernel from CM9 via CWM MIUI works!
I'm going to try to flash MS2ginger 2.1 over 2.3.6, and if it goes I'll try the 3.0 as well
wish me luck! I'll post everything will happen, so other ppl in my situation can benefit
p.s. after a lot of searching on chinese MIUI forum and stuff, and after consequential blood tears over the poorly translated english of Google translator, I can officially say latest MIUI releases run on 2.3.4 Kernel
So Froyo is NOT required, and 2.3.6 is NOT supported as we speak

Thanks
Very good, MS2ginger 2.1 totally works even on 2.3.6, the firmware of doom xD
If anyone on the 3d answers me, I'm going to try to upgrade to 3.0
Hope I'm doing some good for other ppl in my situation ^^ and not just spamming and flooding xD
Hi, I'm a noob just bought a new Defy (my first Android device)
I know this will annoy most of you here, but I have been reading this forum for past few days but couldn't come to a conclusion. So thought of posting a new thead.
I have a Defy running on Eclair and wanted to upgrade to 2.3 or to some custom ROMS, but I got too much confused reading all about Stock ROMS, CM7, CM9, MIUI and other Custom ROMS.
I just want to upgrade my phone from 2.1 and I desire a ROM which will give me Great Performance and Good Battery Life.
Can anyone here be kind enough and give me a simple explanation of what should I do.
You can post a wacky caption as well.
Thank for any help.

Can you suggest me which ROM should i choose? as i said in previous post i want to upgrade. I'm just confused with so many options. Should i go for stock ones or the custom ones? Or which one is most stable. M just looking for speed and battery life.
Thanka for your time.

Don't have time to give instructions now, but DO NOT flash a full 2.3.6 sbf/upgrade to 2.3.6! Stay on froyo. It is possible to run all custom roms with this as base, also the newest 2.3.6 gingerbread ROMs. Someone please specify for the guy^^

Okay thanks mate for that info.
Currently i'm on Eclair so i think first of all i have to upgrade to froyo then i can think of going to cm7 and othet custom roms, right?
As you all would have played with lot of custom roms, can anyone suggest me which one should i go with?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
It's really just a matter of taste. Here are some of the main categories of custom roms:
MIUI
CM7
Modified stock roms
CM9 and CM9 based ICS roms (that's ICS, android 4 . Not stable yet, maybe never 100% without unlocked bootloader )
There are many different flavours to choose from within most of these categories, but there are already a lot of threads about this. You need to read, read, read before you start flashing custom roms. Have you read the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide? Every defy user should read it. Every single day a noob starts a new thread about a bricked defy: "please help me, my father will kill me if he finds out about my defy", etc, etc. These questions have ben answered 1,000,000 times already, so use the search function before posting!
By the way this thread should be moved to the Q&A section. Moderator will take care of that when it's reported...
Questions go in the Q&A section
Hi, I'm a noob here but I have tried a couple of ROMs like CM7, CM9 and WIUI. For me the WIUI looks very good but I don't think it is being updated anymore (pls correct me if I'm wrong). I've seen that MIUI has many variants (WIUI being one of them) so can you kindly tell me which one do you think is the best? And if ever you've tried other roms that are better than MIUI then please feel free to tell me. Thank you.
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
I've been using WIUI (GB) for a while and have tested a bunch of different ROMs CM7, CM9 (with both Froyo and GB kernel, Epsy, Quarx, Maniac, Euroskank, White Rabbit ), MIUI (WIUI, Galnet, Picachu) and I keep coming back to WIUI. It just works for me.
All listed and others are great developers and each brings something different. It just depends on what you need and what's right for you. e.g. If you need your camera without fail, CM9 is not the place to be. If the camera is not important, test out the CM9s and see which one fits you the best.
Don't forget to thank the developers and, if you can, send them a few bucks for the work they do. They pretty much do it on their own time and without compensation.
ive tried almost all available ROMS for DEFY --- but --- Trust me ... from the time i started using PIKACHU ive never been able to go to some other ROM ... u too try it .. its awesome !!

I installed a Full Gingerbread SBF, and also got rid of it following the guide here. In the same thread, I can see that installing CM7 can be done. Is it the same with CM9 and ICS, or other custom ROMs such as WIUI?
It is my only phone, so I am looking to learn from others' experience before doing it.
Thanks people!

I am a red lens Defy user, who flashed a Gingerbread SBF, and I am currently running the Fixed SBF (Froyo) from the above mentioned thread. Do you think I can go on and flash CM9, or does my SBF might mess with compatibility?
UPDATE
Turns out you can follow the instructions in the link I provided earlier and flash any Cyanogenmod ROM. I am actually sending this message from my Defy running a Quarx CM10 ROM with no problems at all. Furthermore my system is fully update-capable. I have flashed almost all nightly builds of the Quarx CM10 mod, and the whole process has been super smooth.

Its bl7 not bl9. If you want custom rom choise the quarx 12.23 latest 2ndboot build. Read this thread for more info about SBF's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 and also cm10 thread in dev section.
