Blue box security patch from Samsung for android - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Has anyone heard anything about this patch being released for our device?
Would it be easy enough for someone to rip it from another device that already has it and just flash and patch it to our tabs instead of waiting for Sammy to kick it out per device or is if too early to say? I just read some article about it and I don't want to sound like I'm paranoid... mainly just curious what others thought and felt about it.
Thanks

[Q] Who's willing to work on Honeycomb for the Tab?

Honestly, I'd be willing to pay someone to work on porting Honeycomb to the Galacy Tab. I'd work on it, but I don't have a whole lot of time... So will anyone try doing this?
There are already threads about this. It will come when someone feels like working on it. Wait a few weeks now that the Zoom is out.

nope I mean Q2 2012 there is no way we will get honeycomb in the next few months.
I'm sure we'll never officially get it, but that's what XDA is for
Why is that waz000000?
Development on for example the Nexus One is going quite well. Don't know if it's ever going to be very functional on the Nexus One, because it's a phone with a small screen. A lot is not working, but it is stable and it's fast(hardware acceleration works).
So i think a skilled developer who knows how to create ROM's for the TAB, could build something functional i think.

I base my reasoning on the fact there has never been a release candidate of CM6/7 on the galaxy S which is practically the same hardware and has been developed now for well over a year.
The main problem seems to be the drivers for samsung devices, there is no easy port like other models.
Add to the fact so many new models of tab are coming out over the next few months and people will jump ship I doubt there will be many skilled devs left to port to the tab. Our only real and honest hope is samsung.
Perhaps this will help you out.
Link removed.
I think that it is only a PREVIEW version of HC but it MIGHT pave the way for you for improvement.

Ah here it is. No it is not spam....I thought that it was A3.0....and since I have gotten my Tab yet I cannot confrm it.
FOr that reason alone I am going to pull the link for now. Apologies.

Anyone received their 3.1 update yet?

nop, 1st for Motorola Xoom 3G from Verizon, not even Xoom Wi-fi. Then other tablets.
For us to get 3.1 we have to ask acer, not google.
No and I doubt we will for a while. I hope Acer will build a good track record as to updating the software

I would dearly love if google split the OS into 2 "layers" the device manufacturer's layer, more like direct hardware stuff. Along the lines of EFI/BIOS and space for them to add specialized apps and UI, then the core OS stuff that was generic across all google devices. USB device support, widget control etc. Imagine if you had to wait for Dell before you could upgrade your copy of internet explorer if you wanted to? Screw that. We need to demand more control over our devices.

You could always return it for in store credit then buy another A500 to "renew" your return period, then have another ever how many days to take it back. I love having Premiere Silver at Best Buy. Means I spend too much there, but I get 45 days to return, never a restocking fee.
According to Google they are trying to sort out fragmentation with icecream samwich. How long will that be I'm the pipeline though :/

Note to Acer: Unlock the bootloader and then we won't care how slow you are with updates. I'm really disappointed with this. I thought the whole point of Android was so we could get updates as soon as they are ready, not wait for the manufacturer to make them. Acer have my money now, what incentive do they have to update my device in a timely fashion. I might move mine on too.

I just did and I don't feel bad. If Acer decides to unlock the bootloader before I am able to buy a transformed or galaxy 10.1, then I will give it another shot.
Being a D1 user, I need strong dev support with lots of roms and hacks. Unfortunately this may not be in the A500's future.

Why not just link to the actual acer site. Much more reliable than another site claiming that they said it.

Dont think its a full official release to everyone. Because over at Moto Xoom side, select few individual received it. We will get update for acer too sooner or later.
Is someone able to adapt a version of the xoom update to update a rooted Iconia? That seems fairly doable because I think it may be minimum a month+ before after releases it. I called them last night and they had no official update or news all.

Samsung Canada Announces ICS Upgrade 4 our Tab?

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...hing-standing-in-the-way-now-is-your-carrier/
Don't flame me but from what I'm reading from credible android police, the og tab is eligible for an ics upgrade meaning its possible OFFICIALLY but its up to carrier. Now thats what i deduce from what i read, i just know if they are referring to the Gtab 2.I could be reading it wrong though. Any one willing to weigh in?
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
Well ayysir, I read it the same way. Some notes, though:
The GTab 7 version 2 already comes with ICS. There is no reason to make a press release about that. Also, given that Samsung has provided ICS ROMs does not mean they will actually surface as well.
This does increase the chances of official ICS on our devices very much. Lol, I think no one was expecting them to actually deliver (in the end) on the promise they made at launch time (GB and HC/ICS support)...
Curious, funny and already useless due to CM9 already being better than whatever Samsung might have released. Sorry to say but I think this is too little too late. Good find though.
The puritans ( who never flash or root devices :-D ) will probably have a field day, for sure. We might end up ripping stuff from it like proprietary code (codecs anyone?) and bundled apps as well, since that would be legal after proper release, but that's just not really that interesting anymore...
This might also clear out Samsung's reputation on failing to provide proper device support. What do you think?
C.
I call a miss print. Samsung have said there will be no ics for our tab. Samsung Canada aren't gonna make one themselves. someone just didn't have their thinking cap on when they typed up the list.
Would be nice to be proven wrong, but I'm sure I won't be.

I hope this happens.I have gone back to stock 2.3.6 as I couldn't get skygo to work and missed using my media sync to watch the videos I bought using the gift pack in 5.1 sound. Hopefully they will release a stock ics rom that will retain 5.1 music and video player.

According to this site, Nvidia has confirmed that Android L will be made available: http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/35101-tegra-note-7-is-getting-android-l
I'm not sure why Nvidia wouldn't make a press release, though.
We were not updated to 4.4.3 nor 4.4.4 due to the fact that these are just small firmware updates intended to clean bugs, They might have jumped to L directly. That would be a better option to them and to us. this is what i feel
There's only one site that says this, with no supporting evidence. I do hope they'll push out L but why would they just tell one site no one has heard of? Doesn't seem like nvidias usual style.

Fudzilla has been around for a while, been going there for years. They generally are spot on, and do seem to have connections with Nvidia atleast so i feel that has some credibility. Considering Nvidia's swiftness with previous updates i suspect the Note will receive android L.

The only two features I want that have been inexplicably absent since day one are Console Mode and 1080p output for gaming. I want to use my TN7 as an Android game console primarily, but missing these features has made it less enjoyable than I'd hoped when I bought this... I was expecting this thing to essentially be a Shield but in tablet form, but in reality it's just a Tegra 4-powered tablet with no game-specific features besides gamepad mapping (which is admittedly an awesome feature). I'd hate to think that Nvidia was holding back features from the TN7 so as to not compete with their own Shield device.
The one worrying thing about android L for me is "Active Refresh rate changing" this is something that can be terrible for gaming. When playing on power save mode or otherwise, the refresh rate should never be messed around with as it breaks many games, emulators etc. I wish they had not implemented this feature. Also, I do hope they dont make sd card restrictions even tighter.

Wtf dude any other flagship/older flagships from any other company got marshmallow, i dont care why it's delayed but it's their fault for sure. "How can I put a date?!?" So, it's 1st July already and Q2 is officially over. No update anywhere to be seen and this shows that Asus has failed. How's that? Well, they promised that they will release it at the end of Q2 and they have to brake the promise. That shows that we can't trust anything in Asus anymore. Of course, they shouldn't have made that promise if they know that they would have needed more time for the development. But it looks like that Asus itself don't even know when they are going to release it. To all the fanboys/fangirls here, you can defend Asus as much as you want, but you need to realise that not everything is perfect with Asus' mobile section. And you should also accept critics even though I know you hate to read or see it. You are the consumer and you have your rights too. Don't let Asus play with you around and tell them that you can not accept this kind of behaviour. Fanboy-ish behaviour is annoying and not helpful at all. You cannot ignore mistakes forever and pretend that nothing has happened.
We should remind ourselves that Asus has called the ZF2 a flagship device in 2015, and not just some midrange device that are for beginners. Now, look, the official software as of today is 5.0. Pretty much just one version above Android KitKat which is see by the Android community as an outdated operating system. Ok, Asus did some security patches in between which is a fine thing, but why would they refuse to update to let's say 5.1.1 at least, which is Android Lollipops major bugfix by Google. So, basically, Asus tried to fix the problems itself instead of taking over the patch from Google. The ZF2 is an Android device, and not only Asus should tinker around with the software, pretending the OS as only their work. Now, many older flagships has reached ar least 5.1.1 for sure (exept maybe carrier controlled phones, but that's another problem) and the Zenfone 2 is still nowhere near more up-to-date software. Perhaps Asus is just too busy playing around with their own user interface and launcher, not caring enough about the base Android version. Even more surprising is that it looks like that a MM update will bring not much new. The only positive thing I could see is that that they start debloating the firmware. But, as some kind of some bad joke, they throw in some kind of Dr. Whatever bull**** anti virus app which an Android operating system doesn't need at all.
Here we are, the beta has rolled out, the official release has been delayed and people here are still being too optimistic, or more likely, being delusional thinking that everything is OK and normal. A company can only improve their strategy when they see their own mistakes. If we don't tell them that something isn't right, they will just go on doing the same mistakes like now. Remember, a company needs consumers, that means our words ate very important and can have some effect on things.

Feel like just wastingtime around here and zentalk for officialMM from asus.
Asus missed the Q2 deadline for the ZE55xML's. Not the end of the world. Verizon customers wait way longer for updates if they even get any.
My backup phone, a ZE551KL, got MM this morning. Nothing special other than it setting a crap load of stuff back to default settings.
What I expect from ASUs in MM is
Better Battery Life and Power management...
Better Ram management...
Nothing more

First it was with Samsung Note 2 and the Lollipop update, when Samsung teased us for over six months with hints and suggestions that Note 2 will be updated to L, then I got fed up with them when instead of the L update, they released another 4.4.2 version, which made the N2 slow to the point of borderline unusable, and told that N2 isn't going to be updated to L (although there are still some poor souls in Samsung N2 section, that are searching for hints about the update on various Samsung twitter accounts), and switched to Zenfone 2.
Now it's the same story all over again with ASUS. I think that the only way to get M for me is to wait until my warranty's over, root my phone, and continue my Search For The Incredible with a custom AOSP rom.
