Picked up a NC for $40 - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So earlier today I bought a NC for $40 and so far it's pretty cool (can't really compare it to other 'high end' tablets because it IS a few years older"
But I have an issue, I flashed CM7 and then CM10 (the most stable version) and tried to download flashplayer.apk but I get the error that I need to have an sd card inserted the nc to downllad the apk. Anyway to get around this? I see in the storage settings that I have
" Internal Storage - Total Space 5.09 GB Available 4.49 GB
Internal Storage - Total Spave 1.00 GB Available 1.00 GB"
Why 2 "Internal Storage" ?

You have two internal storages because one is for installing apps (/data) and one is for app media files (/emmc). And with CM10, no, there is nothing you can do other than insert an SD. Some apps just require them.

and
2. how can i make the phone think some of my internal is an sd. in order to download some market place games that require sd?

Hi,
You have four different storage areas. In order to see what you have got and where it is, download and install Titanium Backup.
When you open up this program, it will display:
System
Internal
SD card
EXT. On the sd card

[Q] SD Card Space

My nook has 7.0.3 encore stable, 4 GB card, and I was wondering if there was a way to increase the SD card space in Android to greater than 39 MB.
On my computer, I did extend the partition, but the extended area shows up as the internal storage, and I need the SD card space for some apps.
thanks
R u running CM7 from eMMC or booting it off uSD?
Do pls indicate clearly
I am booting CM7 off of the uSD card
If so, you should have at least 110MB+ space on "boot", roughly about 1GB for /data and /system and the rest, probably 2GB+ left over, for your own use.
Use a tool such as Minitool Partition Wizard, to extend the 4th partition on your SD card all the way to the max. You should get roughly over 3 GB of space on a 4GB card when running off uSD.
what I'm talking about is the "virtual" SD card that android recognizes. I did extend the fourth partition, but the space for my stuff goes under internal storage. is there a way I can make some of that space go under SD card that android recognizes?
did you ever get an answer or figure this out? I have been searching for 2 days and cannot find info on which partition CM7 thinks is "the phone" for the purpose of installing apps. I get 2-3 on then it says I am out of space.
Yes, when I used a 32 gB card, the internal storgae partition was about one gb, and my SD card partition (inside android) was 28 gb
So I guess it would depend on the sizeof your SD card?
Thanks for this thread guys!!
Minitool partition allowed me to upgrade my 8Gb microSD to at 32Gb microSD.
Now I can REALLY load those PDFs, ebooks, and music onto my Nookcolor's Android C7.

[Q] storage problem sd/device

hi to all,
i am using sensation xl rom on my htc leo (hd2).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632
and i have a 8 gb memory card (sd).
i format the card with 1 gb linux ext2. when i look from pc, i see that
used: 543,4 MB
free : 554,7 MB
but always have a problem with storage area on my phone while i am installing a new apps. all my apps are removed to sd card. and when i check my space from phone, it says just 48MB free area in internal device area ((
is it normal or did i do something wrong? how i can make it larger?
thank you all in advance
any comments?
still waiting for a comment
It is normal in international version HD2, ROM+Caches+Personal data almost full 250MB internal memory. I suggest you using ext3, it would save your internal memory.

[Q] Confused about internal storage and SD Card usage

Android newbie here. I just inherited a Nook Color, and was able to successfully flash over CM10.1 RC1 on it with the latest Google Apps, and everything seems to be working nicely. Being new to Android, and I guess in particular to the Nook Color, the internal storage partitions are a bit confusion. I flashed this Nook Color to have the "newer" partition configuration, 5GB data and 1GB media storage when the previous owner was starting to run low on app space. Now that I have it, the configuration seems to be the same (I guess CM10.1 doesn't touch partition configurations)...
That said, my problem lays with how storage is used. In the storage menu I see three types of storage, two internal and one sd card.
Internal Storage = Total space 5.09 GB (no option to unmount)
SD Card = Total Space 898 MB (option to unmount available)
Internal Storage = 791 MB (option to unmount available)
From what I understand, is that, the first Internal storage is where the OS sits and is allocated for apps and what not. The SD Card, is obviously my 1GB SD Card I used to flash CM10.1 RC1. The third item, the second internal storage listed, I believe is supposedly the media storage, for mp3s, documents, etc.
What confuses me is when I want to save photos from the browser or download files using either the web browser or accessing my Skydrive, they all require I have my SD Card inserted, even though I have that Internal Storage free? Removing my SD card will prompt apps to say "SD Card Required." Any way to use the internal memory instead of having to perpetually have an SD card in my Nook Color? Thanks!
Not with CM10.1. CM7 had an option to swap internal and external SDs, but it is missing in CM10.1. Best to just get a second SD to keep there all the time. That 791MB will disappear quickly anyway when you start downloading things. SDs are cheap and roomy. Many apps won't work without one.
Btw, you were right on your assumptions for everything.

Thanks for the info. So since the media storage is pretty much being wasted space, I should just repartition the entire thing for OS and App installs (seems like by default Apps install to that partition and not the SD card)? I hope CM10.1 later on rectifies this. Things go nuts when I plug in the Nook Color and the SD card gets mounted and unmounted, forcing me to have to restart. I see things like multiple 2GiB files on the SD card even though the card is really only 1 GiB? Really weird.

It is not wasted, you can store things there if you want. And no, there is no reason to repartition farther than you already have. 5GB is huge for storing installed apps and their settings.
And you should get a relatively large SD (certainly 8GB or above) and leave it in the slot all the time. That is the way it is intended to be used. Then you will have no issues with removing the SD. That smaller SD should be burned as a bootable CWM SD and saved for future use. You WILL need it later.

Leapinlar is, of course, right. Some apps can be told to use it, some can't. I use /emmc (now really /storage/sdcard0) for my music and podcasts.
If you stay one step behind the biggest SD cards, they're dirt cheap.
I ended up repartitioning mine to use the newer NC style 5GB for apps and 1GB for sdcard0... had some issues with my physical SD card not working on CM10.1 even though it works fine in the same NC on CM7 where it would show many times more GBs of used space than the size of the card, and eventually the files would go all corrupted, so I ended up having to get a nicer SD card. CM10.1 is picky about brand/speed of microSD you use.

cannot move more than a few apps to sd card? out of space?

Ok, I am pulling my hair out. I only have about a gig of internal space left. I put in a few different SD cards... two are 32 GB and one is 64 GB. I can only move a few apps to the SD Card and then I get a message stating "Not enough storage space." I know I'm not out of space. I only moved a few apps. I check anyways. Still shows there's over 30 GB of the 32 GB card free. I've swapped out the card. I have 3 of them. All are doing the same thing. I just went to the extreme earlier. I rooted the tab A (It wasn't rooted earlier today and I've been having this problem for 2 days.) I then tried to use link2sd and same exact problem. I have the 2 partitions. Both are fat32. One is 31 GB and second is 1 GB. I'll link a few apps over. Then I'll get the same error. "Not enough storage space." Well, apps2sd gives a slightly different error... "Unable to copy Data. No space left on destination." Opening a drive free space app, it shows I have 28.57 GB of 28.69 GB free.
Why are you partitioning the sdcard with 2 FAT32 partitions, in particular 1gb?
When usink link2sd You should be using exFAT for the second partition and the first should be ext 2,3 or 4. Recommended ext2.
I'm also confused how you can possibly have a 31gb and 1gb partition on a 32gb sd card that will only yield 29gb at best.
Rather than link2sd maybe you should consider adoptable storage.
