I have tried the built in app and touchdown, but both can't resolve our company exchange mail server. I even tried browsing to mail.mycompany.com and it gives me a 404 error...where as any other device pull it up just fine.
Thoughts?
did you try owa.mycompany.com?

My company doesn't use that DNS name...only mail.mycompany.com Which my iPhone pulls up fine in a web browser..and syncs up to in the mail settings.
it seems the EVO doesn't have a DNS resoloution for the address..
Okay this is funny.
Can anyone tell me if in your web browser you can get to www.continental.com or coair.com?
Yes to the first no to the second.
Same as ^.
Yes to the one you mentioned in PM. With /OWA and /Exchweb trailing the OWA web address.
This was tested on the EVO 4G phone.
I am able to get it resolved through the Mail app as well. Of course I can't get in
I can get in and I'm reading your email right now.
Is there anything you need to know in particular? Your 4:30 appointment has been canceled.
kidding of course

Lmao, if I have an appointment at 4:30 I'll cancel it myself!
Seems to be an issue with my location...if I move far enough to change towers it all works...if I move back to my office...the entire internet, except anything from my company works.
I canceled the appointment for you at 4:30pm! haha.
Update your Profile and your PRL again. It helped me with some things such as web pages not completing initially when I first picked up the phone.
I have done the OTA update as well and Revoked Root.
Hope that helps. That's really strange the towers would effect DNS resolution or IP blocks
Did you download too much "pron" from that tower and it blacklisted you?

Question , are you trying to access it from within your company wireless network , as in , is your WiFi on the phone turned on and connected to your works network , in many cases you cant access that kind of stuff from within the network.
just a thought.

No, wish I could though...they have our wireless network setup with AD authetication. Either way, it wouldn't explain why www.continental.com wouldn't come up.

Are you sure you have all the proper settings for Exchange on the EVO? I do not recommend accepting the 'automatic detect' settings for Exchange synchronization - on the initial screen, select manual setup and make sure you get everything right.
You will need your username/pw of course, but also the OWA site address and domain name. You might want to double-check with your IT department for the right settings.
Finally, if certain websites aren't popping up, I would update your PRL - this should clear up any data service issues.
All that had been done. Was not a settings issue.

I've not had any luck getting the mail client to get pushed email from OWA on my EVO either. I had this setup on my Blackberry before, but it isn't working out for me with the default mail client. I am using the following settings for Exchange Active/sync. If anything stands out to any of you, please feel free to let me know, this is my first droid device.
Exchange ActiveSync
Email address: (my email address for work)
Server address: (owa.company name.com/owa) since our company upgraded to Exchange 2007, we have had to put the "/owa" at the end of the URL to authenticate.
Domain: Active Directory domain for work
Username: GUID used to authenticate within active directory
Password: password used to authenticate within active directory
I have tried with SSL and without, to make sure that wasn't the culprit, but no change in results.
Not trying to hijack, just didn't want to start another thread for the same issue. If I'm out of my lane with this post please let me know.

Sorry all, but I kept poking around with it and after submitting this response I was able to get it to work. The only change I made was as follows:
Exchange ActiveSync
Email address: (my email address for work)
Server address: (owa.company name.com) Even though authenticating via web browser requires "/owa" at the end of the URL, i removed it and got the results I was looking for.
Domain: left this field blank
Username: Domain/GUID (used to authenticate within active directory)
Password: password (used to authenticate within active directory)
Enabled SSL
Not sure if this will assist anyone, but thought I'd post the results that worked for me.

My issue was not at all related to mail...it was a DNS issue with Sprint. It seems they have resolved the issue on their end.
EDIT: grats on getting it working
Simple resolution then:
1. Double-check all your Exchange settings, including SSL (which is a requirement, unless your IT department is a bunch of idiots).
2. If you can't browse to some websites, then you have an issue with your Sprint service, such as DNS as the OP has posted.
Thanks for the response.
I did do that (had to do that on previous versions as well) but when you click manual, it asks you what type (POP3, IMAP, or Exchange) and I click Exchange. When you click Exchange, it takes you back to the "new" Exchange setup screen I was mentioning earlier. I don't see the "old" screen I am used to.
That's my issue =)
On all previous versions of Android that I have used, I had zero problems telling Android that I was connecting to an Exchange server and putting in my Google Corporate information but using m.google.com as my Exchange server.
When I do this on my Galaxy Tab (Sprint version), it gives me an error that is is unable to connect to the server. On other devices, the username would display as "[email protected]" but on the Galaxy Tab, it displays as "\[email protected]".
I have also noticed that the Email client that the Galaxy Tab is using, looks very different than the stock froyo app.
So I have 2 questions:
1. Anyone else experience this and know of a way for me to correct?
2. Is is possible to install the "factory" android email app?
I am rooted and its a CDMA (Sprint) GT.
Thanks!

Go into Manual setup, from there you can properly enter your proper domain name and server address, and that should sort you out.
Hopefully this will be fixed in the current OTA update. Ive heard some rumors it is but haven't heard if that OTA update patches the root hole....
This probably isn't much help to you as you're on Sprint, but on my Uk Tab I couldn't get Exchange ActiveSync working with my apps for Domains accounts until I flashed a later firmware.
Domain was setup as \[email protected] and Exchange server set to m.google.com. The account would setup but no email would download or send.
When I flashed to a later firmware and tried again it all worked fine.
Regards,
Dave
Just got the new update from Sprint. Didn't correct my issue. Still get the "Unable to connect to server" when trying to receive mail. My calendar is syncing but not email.
=(
Not sure how but it magically started to work. I was getting the error, changed the "Size to retrieve emails" setting from 2k to "all" and it started to pull mail.
I can't see how that's related but it was the only setting I changed.
Oh well, maybe a delayed fix with the update.
Hi,
Just switched from iphone 4 to the Arc. Love everything it represents except for the corporate exchange email, contacts and calendar sync.
Tried setting up the exchange email with the same settings per my iphone (SSL on as well). Unforturnately, I have zero success in setting it up and was met with the following error message:
'Setup could not finish - Server requires unsupported security features'
Has anyone else encountered this before when switching from their iphone 4 to arc? I've also done some research online and the SE website actually mentioned that I have to activate 'device administrator' on the phone. So I went to settings->Location & security settings->Select device administrators and it shows 'No available device administrators'??

Hi ludovic.audoin, good to know that you've succeeded in setting it up. My exchange server starts with webmail.xxx.com.au im assuming that's what you mean by mail2web?
What settings did you use for the following:
Domain: did you leave it blank?
Server: webmail type?
User name: just user name of with the @domain?
SSL: On?
Thanks!

Hello,
in fact mail2web is a exchange server provider. The only thing I do is to fill my email adress and password and after that it connects to mail2web and download the parameters. I did not go inside the manual parameters.

Ok,I've resolved (somewhat) the issue. Basically, the native email client is crap when it comes to supporting corporate exchange mail servers with strict security requirements.
So, instead of using the native mail client, I downloaded the 'enhanced mail' ($9.90) client from the app store instead. Set it up with the same credentials used previously and viola, it worked !!
But I have to admit, being a first time android user, im very disappointed with its exchange email integration as it's not as powerful as the iphone variant. On the iphone, I was able to scroll through folders with ease.
Still not quite sure if the xperia arc is suitable for me due to its limitation in exchange server integration.

Hi not sure why it didn't work in your case as enhanced email does support exchange 2007.
Have you checked your security settings (ssl etc...)? When I set mine up, it actually asked me to set up a 4 digit pin prior to activating the mail, contacts and calendar sync.
Hello,
are you able with your contacst sync with exchange to sort them by Name/First Name instead of First Name/Name ?
Best regards

It depends on the security settings of your corporate exchange server. Mine's very strict due to the nature of my work.

Could be. And most exchange administrators make tweaks for the iPhones because the bosses are using them.

Yeah mate! I got mine off eBay Aus and it's a Singapore stock (I think). Seller is local though and great after sales service. My arc's speaker died after 2 days and I got it replaced by the seller. You can probably get it around $650 delivered.
If you are planning to go on contract, I saw Optus selling it on the $59/mth contract for 24 months. Cheers.

Same here.
Our Exchange setup was just changed to support the enhanced security features and they just forced the "remote wipe" capability.
So everybody who was used to the stock client is shut out!
Google issued a patch for the same BUT to ENTERPRISE customers only!
googleenterprise dot blogspot dot com/2011/04/putting-android-to-work-for-your.html
What the hell was that about.
The stock android mail client was working for me a lot of the people and now it just gives some error about unable to connect.
Now if we need our corporate email we have to either buy the Commercial product:
TouchDown Email : $20
MoxiMail : $20
Enhanced Email : $10
OR compromise with the free clients which just does mail.
K-9 Mail works for most of the Motorola Droid phones.
I have a LG GT540 and it stopped after a day.
MailDroid works better on LG GT540 android phone. I have a rooted android 2.2 on GT540.
All the free mail clients are the basic exchange mail clients which can help you to read email and reply to email.
It does not have GAL (corporate addressbook Lookup). So you need to know the email address of the person to send email to.
Workaround: Corporate AddressBook
Looks up corporate addressbook and has search function.
After a few weeks use most of them switched to MailDroid which seems to be more stable.
Any of the genius out there who have been working on the ROM have been able to get the patch in so that the stock email client can work as it is supposed to work?
That was the core function most users use their phone for and now it does not work unless you pay up and buy a commercial product.
Help please
Hey All,
I'm having a pretty frustrating experience setting up an email client to work with my mailhost.
I can connect to my imap host for the business of incoming email, but I cannot get either the stock android email app, or the current version of k9, to connect to the outgoing smtp server using all of the available authentication/ssl options/port combinations.
Fwiw, I'm running the current, stock JB ROM, rooted. Also, fwiw, these smtp settings also do not work on my JB-based Asus t300, but work just fine on my stock, ICS, HTC Rezound.
Is this a known problem with JB ROMs? Is there a known work around?
Many thanks!

SMTP works fine for me both on my 100% stock Nexus 7 and on my CM 10.1 Nexus 10. I use it to connect to my school's SMTP email (they only use their email for all school/official/professor-student communications ). I don't have any issues.
When I first set up my SMTP connection though, I had to mess around with the certificates as they didn't match what the FAQ and How-To guides the school told me. For example, they told me to use SSL and accept all certificates for incoming, but when I do that my client won't sync correctly so I have to select SSL (without accepting all certificates). Give that a shot?
Also, no offense but even I've made this mistake many times , double check your host names, I always misplace the periods and which is outgoing host and incoming hosts.
Good luck! :highfive:
Edit: added more info.
Thanks so much for your suggestions for me on my little problem. It caused me to revisit it with a more global outlook.
What I learned? The problem had nothing to do with the Email apps, or the version of Android. It had to do with the fact that I was trying to connect via my VPN hosts. My two JB devices are WiFi only, and I always use the VPN app when I'm on them. Almost never from my phone.
Now all I have to do now is figure out the reason my isp's mail host is blocking my SMTP connections from my VPN hosts and I'll be set...
Thanks again!

I thought I'd touch base to say that this problem has now been 100% solved.
It actually had nothing to do with my ISP. My VPN provider blocks outgoing SMTP connections by default. I'm in the process of getting my ISP's SMTP host whitelisted by the VPN provider.
Thanks to everyone who looked at my question, and to the person who offered up his thoughts!
cheers,
john

I just got the g2 on Verizon and I work for Version. I'm always setting up emails and know just about every trick and setting. With that being said I can not get my exchange to work on this phone. Lg was not help and from the searches I've down on the good old interweb thingy and on xda,it looks this has been a know issue with lg phones in the past. Any new info we be mucho appreciates!

I have set my G2 up with two different exchange accounts, both work like a charm. Can you give more details about what it is or isn't doing for you?
i have exchange set up and it is working perfectly, you might have the server info entered incorrectly.
It's telling address or password is wrong or can't connect with server. I've tried changing domain server settings.haven't had a problem. On HTC or Samsung's. On the galaxy it puts domain and username together and asks for exchange Server while on lg it seperates. User and domain and asks for server address..the problem is something I'm entering in one of those spots

Did you manage to find a solution to this problem. I have just got a brand new LG G2 and have the exact same problem when trying to configure an exchange acccount. When debugging the issue on our mailserver it seems that the G2 is somehow mixing domain, mailaddress and username in a way that our mailserver does not recognize.
I either get "cannot connect to server" or "wrong address or password".
LG plain out refused to assist staing that they do not support customers with exchange problems....
Any help will be highly appreiated

Thanks for the info, but sadly this doesn't get me any further.
I have tried to leave domain empty, set domain to mydomain.com, set domain to mydomain.com\, user name to myusername, user name to myemailaddress and all combinations of above, and i still get "cannot connect to server" or "wrong address or password".
My mailserver is Mdaemon supporting Activesync 12.1 and 14. All server settings verified on a Samsung S3, an Asus TF101 and Iphone4 with IOS6.
Any ideas?
I am having the same issue and have tried the suggestion in Microsoft's website. Has anyone figured this out?
Thanks
Exchange is just a pain. I'm getting that same message, but it's syncing. This has been happening with all my phones except my HTC for the last 6 months. It works, then it doesn't. It says password is wrong, but it syncs. They just need to make a unified setup for it. This is what I enter for my domains on all 3 phones. Keep in mind, they all connect to the same server and domain.
HTC EVO: (nothing, it doesn't ask for a domain)
Droid RAZR: \*********@*****.com
LG G2: \NA
Even when I set up Samsungs, they're a different domain as well.

For me, the problems started when we switched to the m.outlook.com server about 8 months ago. Prior to that I had no issues with my MDA, Wing, Droid, Droid 2, RAZR, or EVO. So I wonder, in my case, if it is the G2 or the server.

That would be great. Maybe I could figure out my issue. I work in tge field so I don't have regular access to IT.

Try this.
Under Domain name put, yourcompany.net
Under username, first name last initial. Like, marks for mark Smith.
I used webmail03.yourcomany.com. but it reverted to webmail02 on its own.
Yeah, so the issue is happening with my yahoo email now. It appears that in my case, the issue is with the phone or mail app. The funny thing though, is I can update manually with no problems. The phone is getting denied when it tries to pull the mail.

I have had not had any issue with my MS Exchange account. Try leaving domain blank.and only using a server address. Also, sometimes I have seen usernames be 3 different formats that work on different set-ups. Try just the user name or the full e-mail as options as well.
