it's still worth it? - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

i'm consider to get one, it's still worth to get KF HD with it's current price? or it's better waiting for a new device that come in 2-3 months?

I would wait. By the time Fall comes around, we should be seeing the new line up of tablets from everyone.
I would think this to be the best time to buy. If you like what you hear when the companies start announcing their new products, then go on ahead and wait in line. Otherwise you could always purchase an older generation device before they stop production (prices should be significantly lower I would assume).

The KF HD is now $169. The 32GB one is at $199. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1575863462&pf_rd_i=507846
It says it's a "limited time offer", but seeing that most companies release thier newest stuff in the fall, you may wanna wait a couple months. Still, I may just keep what I have and not buy the latest model when it comes out. I love my KF HD that much!

just checked Amazon didn't ship Kindle Fire to my country,KF from local online shop could cost more than $100 than official price dead end i guess

[Q] Should I keep my Galaxy Tab?

Hey there!
First post since making my account close to two years ago
I just recently purchased a Galaxy Tab through Rogers w/o a contract. It was pretty much a impulse buy. After going on here and reading what I could do to the device, I caught glimpse of some threads saying to hold off for the Xoom and some other tablets that are coming out.
I own a iPhone4, Macbook Pro (13") and a Alienware M17x (17").
The thing I love most about the Galaxy Tab is the form factor. I find the size comfortable. Reading about the new tablets with dual core processors and 10" + screens is exciting tho. Currently in Canada the Tab's are not cheap I paid $755 including taxes. I do have 15 days to return the Tab.
Should I return it and wait for something new? or do you think if or when honeycomb is ported over it will still be able to compete with the xoom or some of the newer tablets of 2011.
Thanks! Sorry for the long post, thought I'd make it a good one to break my XDA cherry
-Geby.
prices will drop. return it.
yeah, return it and wait for the next new shiny thing to be released, but then hang on because the next even more shiny and even newer thing will be on the horizon so best wait for that. Oh, don't buy that version because it will be out of date when the next new bit of kit comes along.
Enjoy what you have, so if it's out of date in 18 months sell it then and buy something newer.
I reckon that my 'tech fund' for phones etc costs me about £10 a week - money well spent.
Just for the record, there is no way I'd part with my Tab or my X10
keep it, it's always best to buy "newer" units after 6 months since its release. (better prices, no more bugs, updated firmwares etc)
dont even think twice take it back i just got 2 of them 3 days ago and find it to get boring seeing that it does not work as good as it should esp iu had 750 in 2 and decided to f it there will be the tab 2 in june plus the moto xoom

$755??? WTF!!! Return it, drive across the border and buy one for $300
Yeah- at that price I'd take it back and scout around for a cheaper one. If you don't find it in a month or so then wait for the next version.
You can always argue that the next one will be better, but with an upgrade cycle now for most phone-tablets-electronic devices of about 6 months you have to draw the line somewhere and get something. Otherwise you will be like the couple that keeps putting off having a child until they can afford it, or have the time for it. It never happens!
Or, if you wait to long to make up your mind and the return period runs out you can always send it to me. I could use a nice gift right about now
I agree, got mine at Tmo about 3 weeks ago for $350.00 on contract; went back to the store tdy and got $. 50 back on my ccard and $ 50 mail back rebate: = $ 250.00 total cost I figured will use it for 6 to 9 months and by then the prices of the new models will be way better than at launching...
I bought one today for $533 new from Best Buy. I didn't sign up for a plan cause I have free hotspot on my EVO, so it doesn't make sense to pay Sprint $30 a month for what I have free. I've connected it to my Evo and it works great....BUT I am wondering if I should have waited on the tab 2 or spend a little more and get the Xoom.
Hey guys and gals. The money wasnt a huge issue with buying the tab. The main thing was if i should wait a month for something better. Looking on ebay i see that you guys are dead on about the prices. Which carriers are compatible with my rogers 3G?

[Q] Will this be obsolete in 6 months to a year?

I've been hearing rumors that tablets in 6 months to a year will make this tablet obsolete. Apparently tablets will be coming out soon with almost twice the processing speed as this currently has, is that true? I have to make a decision on a tablet to buy that will last me at least 2 years before I can buy another one, do you all think that this will last that long? Should I wait another 6 months and buy a better tablet when they start rolling out? I know the developers will keep this going, but like with my HTC Hero, as soon as the next big thing came out, everybody left that device in the dust.
It's a common joke in the tech world to say that by the time you buy your device it's obsolete.
Sadly, it's true. Qualcomm already announced some beastly processors at CES this year, but said they won't show up in devices until 2012. So that's already going to make your device obsolete within a year or so.
I'd say find a device you like now, and buy it. After you buy it be sure to look the other way as other devices get announced.
Also, don't buy into Best Buy's Buyback program, it's a ripoff. You have to sell back within 6 months, and can only get at most 50% of your purchase price back.

Are you ****ting on me? No really I think it smells funny in here. Of course it will be
Computers and similar products like tablets and smartphones follow the same rule. The motorola Xooms performance will be outshadowed in a year, just like the Evo's performance is already outshadowed by the latest phones coming out.
To expect a technology product of this type to be relevant a year later is not gonna happen lol.

The quadcores will be coming out (and the IPAD 3 is rumored to come out) at the beginning of next year.
The end of this year, that quadcores will be SAMPLING - meaning prototype devices will be shown, with release schedules in the beginning of the next year around this time.
With any sort of device, you are looking at a 6 month doubling time in technology. Recently that has been speeding up.
To be fair, the google nexus one (also a flagship) still gets regular updates first - the Moto xoom should be similar.
After one year, quadcores will come out - but your tegra 2 will still be usable.
its obsolete already....save ur money...don't buy anything...
Depending on what you mean by obsolete.
As with Android phones, there are severe competition within the Android platform. All big manufacturers refresh their flagship models every few months to take advantage of newer faster better components. If you want to always have to top of the line, the highest-spec Honeycomb tablet, the Xoom may not last for long. It's already been said that the Samsung one may have a better screen and the LG one does 3D... and how knows how many more Honeycomb tablets will be announced at CTIA by the end of this month.
But if you are considering getting a high-end tablet to won't be obsolete in the sense of not getting updates, or the hardware can't keep up with the softwares. You don't really have to worry, for at least a year or more. Your experience with it will only get better as Honeycomb platform gets more mature, for the next year at least.
This is always the case with Android. The faster, nicer looking, longer lasting device with the latest firmware and the newer manufacturer technology is always right around the corner.
Ultimately this is why I chose not to subsidize with a 24 month ($480 dollar + tax) contract.

I would like to introduce you to Moore's Law.
Moore's law describes a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware. The quantity of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit has doubled approximately every two years. The trend has continued for more than half a century and is not expected to stop until 2015 or 2020 or later.

What he said.
Obsolete is such a funny word. People interchange it with top of the line. There will be some games that come out in a year that won't look as good on the Xoom. They'll probably be/are tablets that are better able to decode video. But the Xoom won't tell stories of processing 4 times harder in the snow for a while.
Disregard.
Well, it wont be complete obsolete but NVIDIA already announced that their new quad core processors will be out on tablets by August of 2011. So, thats twice the performance the xoom has now. I'm expecting a Xoom 2 of some kind. I would wait honestly. thats what imma do.

Contract is for a data plan. You can always buy another off contract (full price) and switch them out.
This is something thats frustrating me aswell. £500 is alot of money these days, especially with cost of living increasing, the price of rice etc.
So you kinda want to get a good few years use out of it. And not have to worry about upgrading within 12 months.
And likewise expect adequate support and updates as quickly as possible without feeling abandoned.

It won't be obsolete but it won't be top of the line anymore. Really, you should buy what makes you happy now, skip the next generation of tablets, and then refresh with whatever 3rd gen comes out in a year or so.
You'd be broke if you tried to keep up with the latest technology. Unless you have that much disposable income...

Yeah but if you have that attitude you'll be waiting forever. When the iPad came out I wanted to wait because although it's a great product, I don't like Apple's ethos. When the cheap aPad type tablets came out I wanted to wait because they're a bit dodgy build wise. When the Galaxy Tab came out I wanted to wait because I'm not a fan of the 7 inch form factor. Now the Xoom is out and I'm supposed to wait again, for another what 5/6 months because there MAY be a quad core tab out before the end of the year? No. The Xoom has everything I was waiting for, a proper tablet OS, open ethos (I was dreading an unlockable bootloader), good build quality and 10 inch form factor. It's what I've been waiting for. I'll be damned if I'm going to wait again just for a performance boost that I'm not even sure it needs right now.
Anyway, when the quad cores are out there will be another reason to wait. I can imagine it now. "Oh you're going to buy that quad tab are you? Why don't you wait until Icecream is out next Jan, then you'll be able to have glasses free 3D." Or some such other benefit for waiting. Nah, I'm done waiting, I'm jumping on the tablet train now.

Completely agree with you. There is finally a quality tablet out there and thats why I picked it up. I'm sure this is plenty fast enough, and you'll always be waiting for something better.
Just pick a comfortable one and stop evaluating new ones, but treat them as candidate for 2 years later.
That's why having a 2-year contract helps sometimes. It help to set the mentality right.
Sometimes it sounds like, to be married or to be single and availe for better girlfriend/boyfriend ,
which one is better?
Just in this case, the contract is just 2-year. The inappropriate analogy is life-time (or at least hopefully for many's cases)
I think the reason the xoom will not become obsolete as quickly as other tablets do is due to the software, not the hardware. I owned an htc hero and saw the nexus 1 get multitudes of update and my poor hero get only 2. The xoom is much like the nexus 1. Even though the hardware will not be the latest and the greatest, your software will always be up to date. Something you may not see with the LG device (due to 3D) or the Samsung device (due to Samsung being Samsung).
Just something to consider.

Bought mine 4 weeks ago... and it is almost outdated? Damn! Can't keep up with this!
TF 2 could be buggy as **** so hang on to the one that works well. That's my rational behind keeping the one that i just bought a few days. That and I sell things on craigslist often.
Hopefully the new TF wont be as poorly produced as the original one.
Yeah, god forbid a mass produced piece of technology produced over seas have any flaws just like every other piece of technological hardware out currently. We Americans want what we pay for gosh darnit!
Nice. Just another reason for me to not go get akeyboard dock. If it doesn't work with the TF 2, I'll be pissed.
It's been said earlier that it will be the same price as the OG Transformer. Hopefully that $399 price tag stays true. I think that if it is true, Asus should have a trade-in program, we give them our TF1, they give us the TF2. Am I right or what?

Maybe in a dream world. That would be beneficial for us, but no one else. It would raise the price for everyone else since they don't make much cash off it any way.
I was just going to gift my TF when the TF2 comes out.
The keyboard not working would be sad because they said it should continue to work with the TF line. However I bought the TF because I wanted it. If they replace everything, well, that's how this works isn't it? I will probably just whine until I can afford to buy a whole new set up and give the old one to my sister.
I'm pretty happy with my current TF. I'll let the TF2 come out and bugs be worked out before I hop on that train.
Will definitely wait to purchase another tablet. The TF is my very first tablet so its been a learning experience. This forum has also taught me plenty.
Not sure if Asus is my next buy, but whatever i choose, i will do so only if it has great video playback, netflix, great Quality ASsurance, etc.
Plus, i wont be first time adopter again..
Ill practice some patience next time.lol
Pretty happy with the TF, probably won't upgrade until Fall of 2012-2013. By then the TF3 will be out haha
Don't worry, and don't hurry!
There is a reason that all current android pads are based on the Nvidia chipset, Google made honeycomb on the Xoom as reference platform.
This will be different next year.. This time Texas Instruments will be google's partner. The first tablets will come Q1\Q2 2012...
Ok, Tegra3 will outperform the Tegra2 by far ...
but the advantages of a TI tablet will probably be way better than that , think of features and compatibility with upcoming android version(s)
This is why Nvidia is rushing with the tegra3 platform! They want to be first...
It's not smart , considering all the stores have tons of tegra2 devices in stock, they won't be sellable for a decent price within a few months. (tegra3 devices will be sold for the same price as current tegra2 devices)
Anyways, some serious price-wars next year... i will wait for the TI vs Nvidia rivalry next year
Let them fight first, we will win the battle (cheap hardware! )

Asus said the dock would work with future version somewhere. i cant remember where exactly but it was a question when someone asked them when they first released it
One thing is certain..

Do you recommend the N4 now?

Hi,
due to the recent price drop I really think about buying one.
My GF needs a new phone and I want to give her one this christmas. But she may get an "old" IPhone 4 from her parents.
So I thought maybe I buy the N4 now and use it myself till then. If she gets the IPhone 4 then I'll just keep it myself.
I wonder if that is a good idea. I'm still on NexusOne to the day and actually would not need a new phone unless it breaks down.
I mean if there will actually be a cheaper IPhone version, that would probably strengthen competition and we might see cheaper Android phones that don't suck.
If Google just sells out its N4 stock I and I'm not buying now I might miss a great chance for a cheap but great phone, right?
Would you buy now in this case?
What are the problems of the N4? I mean besides the unchangeable batterie and non-extendable memory?

If you dont want to wait for a possible nexus 5/2013 nexus 4 then yes I would recommend getting it. This phone is amazing and even more so now with the price cut. You're getting a good phone spec wise off contract for the price of any other on contract priced phone. IMO that's a great deal. I've had mine for about five months now and still love it. One of the best phones I've ever used.
The price cut make it really attractive, even if it is a bit old in today's standard.
Seriously, it is an unbeatable price/performance device at the moment.
Since we don't know exactly when the next Nexus will be announced and we also don't know what will be it's pricing, the Nexus 4 is very tempting. This device is so stable, reliable and Smooth.
The only part that is not very good is the camera, it's ok when you know how to use it properly, but it could be better. But, why would I complain for a device that is sold at 199$ when all others are sold at 500$+
YES !

Nexus 6 and Black Friday

I've been very tempted to get hands on with the Nexus 6, been following the news almost every day going online. Now its been released, still couldnt really get it online until when I went on motorola and almost checked out.
But now I think of it...Black Friday is getting really close. I have a feeling that Google will lower the price of Nexus 6 or have some sort of a promotion to hit the mass market. Plus, Best Buy will probably offer some sort of a gift card incentive. http://quikdocs.com/news/google-nexus-6-black-friday-deal-how-low-it-could-go/1006780/
When you are in demand and in rush of buying something you will always lose $, I think I will wait a few weeks until Black Friday to get my Nexus 6. (Even though I am using my friend's broken screen iPhone lol)
I can't think of a single reason why there would be any type of discount for this device on Black Friday. People are being quoted DELIVERY after Black Friday. The phone is in serious demand.
That would be the dumbest economic move ever. I think it would actually drive down their stock, due to people losing confidence in their ability to run a business.
A provider may offer some incentive for signing up for service, that you could combine with the purchase, but since the phone has been so hard to source from both Google and Motorola, I don't see any evidence that it'll be easy to obtain by Black Friday. Again, people are seeing DELIVERY dates of 12/2 for phones they are able to order now. Even 11/26 delivery on some means we won't be seeing availability by then.
Black Friday has become a joke. I don't even consider bothering looking because of how little stock there is and the fine print used to weasel out of pathetic discounts.
That said I strongly doubt a 3 week old device will get any BF love.

Lol people will be lucky to just get the device before black Friday... Forget about any deals. May be thru carrier you may get something if you sign a contract. Bit that probably applies to all the phones they sell and may not be particular to nexus 6.

Don't forget that Google shan't care if they sell 0 or a million of these as their exec stated in a interview so I don't Google week offer a deal. Carriers could offer deals but certainly not Google themselves.
