Reverting everything back to stock - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, first of all sorry if a thread like this already exists. I have finals at medical school and have no time to search for it and read post by post.
I have to put my Nexus 7 to repair because my screen is damaged. It has a yellow tint on many spots over the screen, and it is getting worse over the time. My device is rooted, bootloader unlocked, with custom rom and kernel. Please provide me a step by step guide, how to revert everything back to stock rom, stock kernel and lock bootloader and uproot. Or whatever more there is for putting it to a state where they won't find that I tinkered with the device.
The screen issue is hardware related, and I haven't touched anything hardware - wise, so please note that my actions couldn't damage the device the way it is damaged.
Thank you for your help.

[Q] Resetting everything to stock on my N4

Hi all,
First off, I've read all stickies and so-forth but wish to confirm a few things before continuing! I'm due to return my Nexus 4 to Google due to a hardware fault and wish to reset everything to stock as not to come up against any warranty issues. I've rooted, installed custom recover (CWM), and am currently running a rooted deox'd stock rom.
The guide that appears to take care of everything I need to return my N4 to "completely out of the box" is this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
It looks like that'll take care of 1. flashing a stock rom 2. reverting to stock recovery and then finally 3. relocking the bootloader.
Is this the best method to follow?
Is there anything else I should be aware of, or anything else I should do to revert things to 'out of the box' state?
Cheers guys.

After you finish with the flasing, if you stuck in bootloop, then go to the recovery mode (the orginal one, ofcourse) and do a factory reset.

[Q] flash to stock / relock WITHOUT fastboot

Hi,
Long story short, I've lost use of the USB port on my N4 for anything other than charging. No combination of computer/port/cable will recognise it, and I've tried all sorts of ways to get it to work again. (It's the same issue this guy had http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040083)
I've RMA'd it, and got a new unit - other problems too, relating to battery overheating and only lasting ~4 hours, so there's definitely a hardware fault.
Before sending it back, I'd like to unroot and relock it, if this is possible to do without using fastboot.
There are some threads for other devices which can use a flashable zip to flash everything back to stock (including the recovery) and use this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731993 to relock the bootloader from within Android, but I obviously need to find the files for a N4 since the ones in the other threads are device-specific.
Can anyone help me with this, or am I being too worried that they will deny me a warranty repair since the phone is unlocked/rooted - do they actually care in practice?
Thanks for any help.
So, I searched for it.
And the third result was what you are looking for.
Right there in the second post.
Just an idea:
- flash stock rooted ROM
- flash stock recovery
- lock the bootloader with an app (i have see it somewhere)
- unroot it with an app
But you will need battery for these operation, if its work indeed...
And normally, even if your software is modified, they have too take it for hardware problems

Nexus 7 back from repair but now boots in Ubuntu?

Hi, had a screen defect under warranty so sent for repair and today it's come back and although screen is fixed it appears they have sent it back with a different OS, it has no play store and has a browser (not chrome default) It feels like it's in some sort of test mode.
Going to phone Asus in morning but really don't want to send it back again as this repair took nearly 2 weeks, anything I can do to get stock jellybean back?
Edit: on about tablet screen the build number is: full_grouper-eng 4.1.1
Cheers
Download 4.2.2 image and fastboot flash. Read the stickies in general section for instructions.
"What do you tell a man with two black eyes? Nothing. He has already been told twice."
Lol.
Look at the sticky thread on the top of this Q&A section entitled "[GUIDE] Flashing a Factory Image with fastboot / return to stock".

Truly return to stock, no TWRP, stock sys, un root, step-by-step, will consider tipng

I've read the threads that returned when i typed my title and they all have caveats and/or problems I've encountered before., e.g., bootloop, etc. or I've rooted phones before and with TWRP or CWM recovery, you can flash a stock ROM, but the phone will still be "modified" and then you have those problems.
Q: Is it possible to return the device back to stock form in entirety (I don't care if "tampered message appears) I just want a stock recovery, stock system to be able to take OTA (or lack thereof.).
The roots I've down in the past suggest that once TWRP or CWM is installed, they're there forever. Is this incorrect?
I bought this X Play with a horrible ROM that I hate.
If I just flash a stock ROM, then I'll still have to deal with possible OTAs that may cause problems, but if I'm not rooted, then I can take thew safely. I think
I may have answered my own question.
Thanks in advance for any help
Yes. You absolutely can return to stock.

Keep in mind that the when you get to the fastboot command procedures, they are wrong. Surprisingly it still hasn't been updated with the correct procedures.
Go to the 4th page of that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-to-flash-factory-image-return-t3261486/page4
Look for the post by @dev>null that says correct fastboot procedure.

Thanks again for pointing me to that thread. It worked great.
And a warning for anyone (like I was) downgrading stock, this is vital or you'll hard brick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/reminder-how-to-downgrade-6-0-to-5-1-1-t3267253

Help fixing bricked Nexus 7?

Hi guys, a few weeks ago I revived my old 2012 N7 and have been getting some decent use out of it, however after trying to flash one of the Nexus factory images I think I may have bricked the device. I'll get straight to the point and explain more further down.
1. The bootloader is unlocked
2. The tablet boots into this screen - https://i.imgur.com/nzYaXLt.jpg
3. Whenever I boot into the bootloader the screen turns off (I believe the bootloader is the main cause of this issue)
4. Booting to recovery does nothing
5. Fastboot works(at least detects the device - https://i.imgur.com/yUGTVjh.jpg
6. When i try to flash a nexus factory image I get this error, then the tablet boots into the bootloader with a black screen - https://i.imgur.com/Kc9adlJ.jpg
7. Attempting to flash TWRP recovery results in this error - https://i.imgur.com/SHuQZWK.jpg
8. A video of what happens when I try different things: https://youtu.be/JBBT__nGJS8
I'm pretty sure the issues happened because there was some sort of failure halfway through a factory image flash(I flashed quite a few of the factory images but was trying to find the one I liked the most), so I unplugged the tablet( I know:/ ) as the flashing wasn't progressing at all after the error.
If anyone can help it'll be massively appreciated, I hope I've made it clear on what's going on with the device, and I'll be able to further explain things if needed
Sorry to tell you, but it looks to me as if the emmc memory is broken ... bootloader cannot be flashed / updated. If you had done a backup of your binary blobs before as described here there would have been the chance to reformat and to recover from scratch. Otherwise I suppose there is nothing you can do now. Our devices are becoming ancient ...

Cheers for the reply It does make sense that the memory is broken as the tablet often fully freezed/switched off randomly during the last 4/5 days of its life. Just a shame because it was actually working surpisingly well before the memory issues! And also, thank you for the 7.1.2 AOSP ROM, definitely the best working ROM I tried as it never seemed to have any issues with it

You still might be able to recover your Nexus with my guide. Go check it out.
