Hi, I just rooted using Kindle Water and got the Android Market installed. Can I stop the next OTA update by freezing the app on my kindle using Titanium Backup?

Sorry, I am not sure but I am really interested to find this out myself. I have read a few articles today and there seems to be a few procedures but nothing where someone has said it 100% works.
There must be a consensus among the developers/experienced techies - please let us know.
Yes, I have done it, search got otacerts.zip in this forum.

So is it not as simple as flashing a custom ROM as has been made out in this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23231575#post23231575
Thought you wanted to stay on the stock ROM...

Sorry not me, I would flash CM7/CM9. I don't care much for the standard ROM plus I live in the UK so wouldn't get any amazon services anyway.
I don't mean to hijack the thread but the OP hasn't stated whether he would stay standard or not.
People in another thread have just confirmed by flashing a non standard ROM I will not receive any updates

I believe that is correct, if you running a non stock ROM then Amazons OTA updates are not an issue.

The only ways to stay stock and prevent it are to unregistered your kindle on amazon.com, turn off wifi, or diligently check the cache folder and delete the file when it downloads. It doesn't install immediately and it won't download it again once you delete it

Yes, but it should be avoided for the time being. The new version introduced some bugs in the install section and would not flash the few ROMs I tested. This is the thread in the development section....

That's why you need to go to the link and install the last official Amazon app build. There are three apks there. Appstore, Kindle apk and Amazon MP3 apk.
There is an issue for some with the newer Amazon apks. Until it gets sorted, use the Apk's at the link.
Is there any place to download stock files from the kindle SOHO? It seems like there should be a repository for common files between devices. for instance i really need DownloadProvider.apk, but cant seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone help me out? i will be uploading all of my common system files for download for others unless something like that already exists and i couldnt find it.

That's the new Kindle Fire HD 2013 right?
If so as with most if not all Kindle Fire's you can download the .bin update file relevant to your device & extract it with 7-Zip etc. to get any file you need.
This is the latest software update .bin file for the KFHD 2013:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/kindle-fire-updates/update-kindle-11.3.1.0_user_310084920.bin
It is a 700MB+ download so not ideal if your just looking for one file etc.
right on the money
Thank you very much, that is exactly what I was talking about. I thought it may be possible to download the update but didn't know how!

Probably not until there's a useable boot loader. I assume by bricked you mean won't boot

I did the same hing to mine. I called amazon and was able to exchange no problem. When they asked if I saw 'kindle updating' at boot I said no.

If you can still get abd access, you may be able to do something.
I called tech support and getting a new one sent out. I did not want to because it was my fault it was bricked not Amazons but it's my daughters Kindle and I wanted her to have it again

Its boot, but got some problem loading files
If you know what files are the problem and can get abd access, you could push stock copies of those files to the device and possibly get it to loadup

I killed my download manager and thought the same. Turns out you can download the update binary and unzip it for individual files.

Yep, downloading the .bin file and renaming it to "whateverthenameis.zip" is handy for getting files you need. You can also pre-root the ROM and flash it, once there's an unlocked boot loader and custom recovery.
I was trying to get a working play store on my kfsowi with a modified download provider, but my kindle lost download capability all around. I just pushed the stock apks and saved waiting for a boot loader exploit thankfully

fastboot wont do you any good at this point.
i was able to get mine operating again with the same problem. You have to have root and adb access though
