[Q] Is the GT-I9500 HSPA+ capable ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On Gsmarena specs for the GT-I9500 they state that the phone is only HSDPA not HSPA+ .
I just wanted to know if the GT-I9500 is also capable of HSPA+ !!!! Because all the researches on the web confirm that the HSPA+ is faster than
the HSDPA
Thanks in advance

It doesn't. It only supports theoretical d/l speeds of 7.2 mb
Sorry new to tmo, is the phone on hspa when it displays an H instead of the 3g or E for edge?

HSDPA is technically 3G.
It will only flip for custom ROMs. The stock ROM will say 3G on both UMTS and HSDPA.
NS does not have the hardware capability to operate on HSPA+. H in network is HSDPA, little snip from my other post.

HSDPA and HSPA+ is not the same. As HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) is considered 3.5G by today's standard and is capable of 7-14Mbps using UMTS. Where HSPA+ (high speed packet access) is 21-42Mbps and sadly due to FFC changing standards its now considered 4G.

Now back when 4G wasn't used so freely H was fine for HSDPA but now since we have HSPA+ only way you can actually know it if you looking directly at the mobile network type. So from H itself you won't actually know if you are using HSPA+ or HSPA only way is if you install widget that display network detail on panel.

AT&T 3G and possibly billing?

hmm...
so my friend bought a sony neo V MT11i and we found out it only has UMTS 900/2100... so supposing it would get 3G on AT&T network.. then after setting up the phone, we saw H on the bar instead of E..
please advice..
H stands for HSPA+ or in other words you have HIGH SPEED DATA.
E would mean you have EDGE service or old slow 2G service. What's the problem?
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!
ya.. thats makes me wonder AT&T is not only using the 850/1900 band??
They may be utilizing the 900 band in your area. Also, some phones, are actually 850/900/2100 or more commonly 850/900/1900

maybe its the 900 band.. I checked many src and all says the phone got only 900/2100 band...
Did you look at this website:
maps.mobileworldlive . com
It'll show that bands available in your area along with launch dates.

S3 GT-I9308(China) and the GT-I9300(International)

Hello everyone,
I was looking for an S3 to buy but found that there are 2 version of it(that i know of). I have checked wikipedia to see if there were any big differents between the GT-I9308 and GT-I9300 versions and most of it is the same except the Max network speed.
While the GT-I9300 has a max network speed of 21 Mbit/s HSPA+, the GT-I9308 only has a max network speed of 2.8 Mbit/s TD HSDPA.
Anyone knows if this is correct or just a wiki error? Cause 2.8Mbit/s is not much. Does this mean that if i have a good conncetion, i will always get only 2.8Mbit/s has max speed?
Thank you
+1
no, the biggest different is
9308 uses TD-SCDMA network but mainly worldwide operators use WCDMA, CDMA(2000) or other 4G network.
which means i9308 only good for China , incompatible with other networks
but it DOES compatible with GSM , but its speed you know ...

The reason why you're having this issue is because the i9500 uses the same frequencies for their 3G/4G that Canada uses for 2.5G GSM. You're not going to get very fast downloads speeds and there is no fix or mod to change this. That's why Canada and the US have their own variants which work on our network frequencies.
In Canada we use 850 MHz for GSM (2.5G), 1900 MHz PCS and 2100 MHz for LTE.
