Whats safe to remove? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone spent time working out what is safe to remove.
I just rooted and wanna free up ram and remove some of the bloat.
Also thought we could all say what we have removed and build it up from there.
No problems removing
Stock internet
Stock music
Svoice
Thanks

Im using FlyX Final and noticed the same, gets error "no application found to handle google.streetview" hope a fix is on the way
Didn't he remove the maps in flyx? That would explain no street view
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Does anyone have the stock maps.apk so I can reinstall it?
EDIT: Just install maps from market, but had to install street.apk to regain streetview. Attached you can find Street.apk in zip form, or Street.apk can also be downloaded in the complete stock apk package from androidforums at this link: http://tinyurl.com/34mekqt
I removed Google maps and installed a version I got off another forum and still same problem

Here, at the end of this post ("Clean ROM" section): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15391697&postcount=5
And I recommend you Titanium Backup. The free version just works.
i recommend the es file explorer as an alternative.
use titanium explorer
backup the apps you wanna remove and then remove them
even if you run into probs you can restore from the backup

[Q] Minmal GApps with Swype Keyboard and Photosphere

Hi folks,
So I finaly got my Nexus 4 and I directly flashed Cyanogenmod, because I don't like too much bloat and only need a few Google Apps I only installed:
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleLoginService.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Phonesky.apk
I am missing the swype-like keyboard and the photoshpere option.
What files do I need for them? I want to stay on a minimal installation.
Thank you for your help

A gentle bump
No one has an idea?
Greetings
You need the GalleryGoogle.apk (just pull from the regular Gapps) and the LatinIME.apk. Don't forget the libs if you're making your own Gapps package

Stop OTA?

Hi all, I'm new to Samsung and I wanted to know which files I can freeze w/ TiBU or which files I should rename with root explorer to kill any future pushed updates? Thanks in advance for your help

System/App/ syncmiDM.apk the one with the grey and green arrow.
That's the software update app.

I don't see that app you mentioned. ....

On the galaxy S3 we would freeze SDM and FWUpgrade. That always worked.

Fwupgrade might not show up in titanium. Use Root explorer and go to /system/app/ and change FWUpgrade.odex & FWUpgrade.apk to .Bak extensions. Like FWUPGRADE.ODEX.bak & FWUpgrade.apk.bak

I found the files in titanium and was able to freeze. Renaming is a safer bet???

Your right, the .odex I did not see in titanium. So should I rename the SDM.odex along with SDM.apk as well
Sent from my Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet using xda app-developers app
No. The ODEX is part of the APK. If you froze the APK you are fine. In a stock system, apk are split into an apk and ODEX file. The ODEX is loaded into the dalvik Cache the first time you boot with it installed. Then that app is always in your memory until you wipe the dalvik cache. That's why you boot quicker after your first boot. It needs to build the dalvik cache the first time.
In a de-odexed custom rom they have merged the two files, apk and ODEX into one. So you can edit them easier. Them the whole apk is just loaded into the dalvik cache.

So you only need to rename the files if they are not frozen...right? I renamed SDM.apk & SDM.odex to SDM.apk.bak & SDM.odex.bak but now I don't see it in TitaniumBU.
Am I good?
Correct. If you rename them they no longer show in titanium cause it is no longer an app. It lost its apk extension. The system only sees it as a backup file. Hence it can't run. Hence titanium doesn't see it. Freezing it in titanium does the same thing. Makes it so the system no longer sees it.
